NAFCA
Seminar
Schedule
2012

October 2012

NAFCA is gearing up to bring you the most informative and interesting seminars ever in Athens Georgia on November the 9th. We have arranged an wide variety of speakers to give you the up to date information going on in the fence industry. You can arrange to find out The Principles of Consultative Selling: “Who’s Agenda are YOU On?” by sitting in on Bill Schenke, Vice President of Sales or Chris Babb, both from Ameristar Fence Products. They will explore the elements of the selling cycle and the application of those elements during the sales process. This class will explain why we miss out on sales because we did not clearly understand what was really important to the customer. This program will also look at time usage and how, as professional sales people, we are spending our most valuable asset… our time. This program will help the attendee understand why it is so important to “be on the customer’s agenda”.

Job Costing and Overhead, will give Mike Jacobs and Mark Knudson of Modern Fence

Technologies a chance to team up and share some of their insights. Neither one are accountants, and they don’t play on of T.V., but Mike has taught Economics, and Mark has a proven track record as a successful businessman. This is an entry-level, layman’s course in basic business economics that will also appeal to the seasoned businessman looking to sharpen his skills. Have you have ever wondered why sometimes it seems that a lot of activity doesn’t add up to a lot of money in your pocket? Most of us behave as if the “busy” in business is what we are supposed to focus on. The purpose of this seminar is to help small businessmen determine their “cost of doing business”, and learn how to be more profitable in the jobs they get. Participants will walk away with a solid understanding of basic job costing, and will be able to see how each component of their business affects the “bottom line”. If you have never hired and accountant, or didn’t understand what you accountant was telling you, this seminar is for you. If you are interested in Gate Operator Installation, UL325 / ASTM Requirements then you won’t want to miss Bill McCoy from LiftMaster. Bill has been working in electronics since 1976 after he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. He did his first work in access control in 1977 as a technician for Schlage Electronics, working on some of the first proximity card readers used in the U.S. In 1989 he began working for Sentex Systems as a telephone entry repair technician. When Chamberlain purchased Sentex in the late 90’s he became the Training Manager for Chamberlain, then the head of Commercial Product Support before helping to found the Chamberlain Training Academy in Tucson, Arizona. As an instructor with the Academy, he teaches installation and repair of all product line manufactured by LiftMaster. He received a master’s degree in Adult Education in 2008 in order to provide quality instructional design and delivery to LiftMaster Customers. Continued on next page

Post Drivers, “Shift Into Drive” ,”Any Post that you set in concrete could have been

set just as well or better without concrete.”… Ray Statz. Are you still “stuck in the mud”? Or are you ready to “Shift into Drive”? There is a newer way of looking at building fence. Jim Martin, President of Rhino Tools, shares his knowledge and experience of setting posts starting with the traditional method of setting in concrete. Then he explores the validity of Ray Statz's quote above, discussing the various methods available for driving pipe. This seminar looks at both the theoretical and the practical benefits and drawbacks for both methods, and will give an installer the knowledge necessary to make an informed decision about the value of driving pipe.
