Welcome to the 2023-2024 FSFF Directory. This directory is bigger and better and will serve as a great resource for some of the best Fleckvieh genetics you can find. We are returning to the June – June format in an effort to include as much information as possible. This issue is jam packed with sale information for North America as well as show dates and results. Our board and our membership are dedicated to breeding quality cattle, promoting the Fleckvieh Fullblood breed and educating the commercial cattleman on the benefits of enhanced growth and increase in maternal characteristics in crossbred cattle. The members of the FSFF know what Fleckvieh cattle can do for the breeder and the industry and this directory is a testament to their belief in this great breed of cattle.

2022 was full of highs and lows for all of us as well as the FSFF. We lost some great pioneers of the breeder last year, but we cannot let the knowledge that they possess and the heritage and legacy that they left, end with them. We all have a job to do! We all have the responsibility to not only educate ourselves, but to teach those around us. We must educate new breeders and our FSFF JRs. They are and will be the carriers of the legacy that those trailblazers have left for us for generations to come.

The remainder of 2023 and 2024 hold lots of new and exciting things! New opportunities are available for our juniors. The Grand Champion of the Challenge Cup of the NAILE will be eligible to compete for the Junior Heifer Show Supreme Champion and the champion from The Pinnacle will be eligible to walk in the ring for Supreme Champion overall breeds. There are additional premium matches for the NAILE and AJSA in addition to the $500 offered by the FSFF for those shows, Cattlemen’s Congress and Dixie Nationals. In 2024, the FSFF is making plans for an inaugural event, The North American International Fleckvieh Congress. This will be an all-inclusive, member consigned sale, annual meeting and fun, family weekend during the NAILE and held in Elizabethtown, KY. We are expecting participation from all over North America. More information is to come as we continue to work out the details.

We hope that you enjoy and find a benefit not only in this directory, but in everything that the FSFF does and promotes. Our desire is to assist you, the member, and the breed, in any way that we can so that we all strive to be the best caretakers of the wonderful creatures that God has given us responsibility for. 2023 Fullblood Simmental Fleckvieh Federation

Membership

The FSFF operates as a nonprofit marketing organization to promote Fullblood Simmental Fleckvieh cattle worldwide to purebred and commercial producers. The FSFF is not a registry association but cooperates with the American Simmental Association, Canadian Simmental Association, and other similar registry associations.

Annual FSFF membership dues are $100/year and include a complimentary farm or ranch listing on our online breeder listing page of our website and in our membership directory. Memberships are due each January for the annual period of Jan 1 through Dec 31. Renewal forms are mailed to members and prospective members each year. Membership applications are also available on the Membership page of the website, www.fleckvieh.com.

The FSFF maintains an online presence with its website and social media platforms. Members may submit event dates for inclusion on the News/Events page. The Sales/Classifieds page is also available for member submission. Members can send in sale announcements and each membership includes a free 30-day ad in the Classifieds section per year. Ad packages are also available for a nominal fee after the use of the free ad.

Emails are also sent throughout the year from fleckvieh.fsff@gmail.com which contain valuable updates and announcements.

Advertising & Promotion

The FSFF will be using a campaign of ads with the intent of educating our fellow cattlemen on the benefits of using and raising Fleckvieh cattle. The FSFF advertises in the following publications:

• SimTalk – We have placed an ad in SimTalk March 2023. We are scheduled for another in the Membership Issue June 2023. The Sim Talk has a distribution of 40,000.

• The Stockman Magazine – We will be running a 2 ad campaign to target cattlemen from the North Central/Western states including North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska. The Stockman is the premier livestock publication featuring and serving seedstock and commercial beef producers nationwide. These issues are available in hard copy as well as available online at stockmanmag.com.

• Western Livestock Journal – We will be running a multi-ad campaign to target and educate cattlemen in western states. This includes but is not limited to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Montana. WLJ has an estimated distribution of 20,000. These issues are in hard copy as well as available online at wlj.net.

FSFF PROMOTIONAL BOOTH

The FSFF display booth has and will continue to travel to shows and sales in the US and hopefully will return to Canada! Visitors to the booth this year will receive a copy of this membership directory and other promotional materials that will continue to be available and they are able to visit with FSFF representatives and board members. Tshirts, hats, as well as applications are also available. Contact the office to have the FSFF at your next event.

Fred Schuetze Award

THE FSFF PROUDLY PRESENTED THE 2022 FRED SCHUETZE AWARD TO GLEN VAUGHN of Rocking V Farms of Anneville, KY

Glen Vaughn was the chairman of the FSFF from November 2020 until April 2022. He was a champion for the FSFF and the Fleckvieh breed. He believed in Fleckvieh cattle and without his faith in what the FSFF could be, we would not be where we are today. Bringing back the FSFF Directory was a vision that Glen brought to life in 2022 and it will continue as a testament to his leadership. He was awarded the Fred Schuetze award posthumously at the 2022 FSFF Annual Meeting.

FROM HIS SON, LUKE VAUGHN:

Dad bought his first Simmental in 1988. She was not Fleckvieh. She was a Swiss Simmental, the best I can tell from the paper work I have. Back in that time, people wanted the tall-framed cattle. We bought our first fleckvieh in 1999; she was a Klondike Arnie daughter. In 2001, dad sold all the purebreds and commercial cows and went strictly Fleckvieh. We have sold a lot of flecks over the years. Dad’s dream was to sell a high dollar heifer. So in 2007, he sold RV Umtata Rose 1U for $15,000. He was always so proud of that achievement. Dad was a believer and advocate of the fleckvieh breed. Dad passed away April 15th, 2022, but we are still breeding flecks and taking Rocking V Farm to the next level. Before dad died, he purchased WJS Junior from Johnson Ranching. He was so proud of that bull but never got to see him. We are looking forward to using him as a stepping stone and continuing to grow our herd.

FROM HIS FRIEND, MARK JESSE:

In 2016, I was looking for some fleckvieh cattle to purchase. I saw a fellow by the name of Glen Vaughn in Anna, KY online and since he was not too far from me, I decided to give him a call. We talked a good while and I received some very valuable information during our conversation. In 2018 at The Magnolia Classic, my friend Maurice Webb introduced me to his friend…Glen Vaughn. That was the beginning of a friendship of a lifetime. Glen’s advice to me was if you go to a sale, pick one of the best quality animals that you can afford and focus on purchasing that one. Turned out, we had both picked the same two females! That day, I purchased one and Glen got the other. From then on, we pretty much talked daily about this great breed of cattle. Glen was very knowledgeable about the breed and the older bloodlines. He helped me to appreciate several things that I previously wouldn’t have given a thought to. Glen had an eye for top notch cattle and that’s what he wanted to keep.

When Glen was elected chairman of the FSFF, his main goal was to get it turned around and productive again. This wasn’t about self gain. He truly believed in the breed and wanted to promote it. I feel that he accomplished his goal. He was a pioneer of this breed and I am truly blessed that my life and path crossed with Glen Vaughn.

Annual Meeting & Fundraiser

FSFF 2022 ANNUAL MEETING AND SILENT AUCTION/GENETIC FUNDRAISER

The 2022 Annual Meeting was held on October 21, 2022 at Little Creek Cattle at The Magnolia Classic Sale. The FSFF provided a catfish/chicken fry dinner prior to the meeting. Randy Moody from the ASA also spoke at the meeting.

The Silent Auction and the Genetic Fundraiser held at The Magnolia Classic and the Silent Auction held at the Back to Grass sale in May, were huge successes. Many thanks to Little Creek Cattle and Wild Track Cattle/Estes Ranch for their hard work and allowing the FSFF to hold these fundraisers as part of their sales. The Fleckvieh Heritage Sale donated a percentage of their gross sales to the FSFF. The FSFF budget functions in large part due to these fundraisers and YOUR participation. Fundraisers are planned for 2023 and 2024.

The Annual Meeting for 2023 will once again be held at The Magnolia Classic on Friday, October 20, 2023. Plans are in the works for the FSFF Annual Meeting for 2024 to be held at the North American International Fleckvieh Congress in Elizabethtown, KY. This event is new for the FSFF and will occur during the NAILE. This will be a weekend of friends, family and cattle, the Annual Meeting for the FSFF and it will culminate with a great sale! Junior Scholarship

As breeders, enthusiasts, and agriculturists, we know youth are the future of our industry. To better serve & support our youth members, the FSFF is happy to continue to award the FSFF jr Educational Scholarship annually!

A $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP is awarded to an applicant who has been a FSFF jr member for at least the past 2 years and who is at least a senior in high school (or equivalent) during the fall- spring calendar school year! Scholarships will be awarded yearly to qualifying applicants worldwide. The application lists all of the requirements and is available on our website, Fleckvieh.com. The annual scholarship application deadline is September 1 of each calendar year.

FSFF Jr membership is open to those 21 years or younger as of the January 1st of the membership year. Dues are $15 per calendar year. The application is available on our website (or page 40 of this directory) and it along with payment can be mailed to the office or sent electronically.

Scholarship opportunities are available to students who have been a FSFF Junior member in good standing for at least the previous two (2) years.

2022 Photo Contest Winners

FSFF Jr members submitted photos this year in 2 categories: “Farm Life” and “Cattle”. Members were allowed to submit one photo per category. Photos were judged at the FSFF Annual Meeting held at Little Creek Cattle. A panel of 3 judges selected the Grand and Reserve in each division. In addition, all of those in attendance were allowed to vote on the People’s Choice Award. Cash prizes were awarded to:
