Killarney girl on Irish softball team that secured World Cup qualification

The Irish qualified for the WSBC after finishing third in the European Championships in Prague over the weekend.

New York-based Andrea has strong Killarney and Cork connections.

She is the daughter of David and Noreen Hegarty and granddaughter of Nancy Hegarty, Park Road, and Eileen Twomey, Rowels, Meelin.

She is part of the Irish Under 18 softball team.

Ireland defeated some of the top teams in Europe to secure their bronze medal place, including two wins to Great Britain.

Throughout the week, they played in a round robin tournament against Spain, The Netherlands, Czechia, the Ukraine, Israel, Germany and Italy.

Their final game was intense, as they came up against The Netherlands, who had beaten them earlier in the week.

The Irish team hit the scoreboard early with an amazing performance from Andrea who smashed a two-run home run.
