A CHANCE to explore new worlds attracted some 5,000 gamers to Killarney at the weekend as they descended on the INEC for the first-ever Insomnia Gaming Ireland Festival. The INEC was transformed in to a gamer’s paradise and visitors travelled from all over Ireland, the UK and even as far afield as the Netherlands, Switzerland, Hungary and the US for the three-day event – the first of its kind in Ireland. The Minecraft Zone, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive demos were some of the most popular attractions, while the interactive stage shows featuring YouTube Stars were at full capacity each day. Insomnia Ireland was hosted by Multiplay, organisers of the UK’s largest gaming festival, Insomnia, and a subsidiary of GAME Digital plc (“GAME Digital”), the UK’s leading video gaming specialist. “We’re thrilled with the massive response to our first event in Ireland,” says Craig Fletcher, founder and CEO of Multiplay. He added: “Gaming is a form of escapism, a place to explore new worlds, and a way of socialising with friends you don’t get to on a day-to-day basis. We were delighted to witness Irish gamers’ passion for all things gaming for the very first time and we look forward to returning in 2017.”
