New resource for bereaved parents launched in Tralee
ANAM CARA, the national organisation that supports bereaved parents, unveiled a new resource. The information pack, which was launched in the Meadowlands Hotel in Tralee on Tuesday, is designed to provide support for bereaved parents in the early days after the death of their son or daughter. Over 30 local organisations were at the launch and received copies of the new pack, which contains eight booklets on different themes related to parental grief. Also available was a new booklet published just this week written by and for parents with no surviving children. The local groups represented included An Garda Síochána, the HSE, Southern Health Board, Kerry General Hospital and Kerry Mental Health Service. Rainbows, SHEP, Pieta, Kerry Travellers Health & Community Development Project and various representatives from family resource centres and the Kerry Diocese also attended. Founded in 2008, Anam Cara Kerry meets on the second Tuesday of every month in the Recovery Haven in Tralee, with the simple model of giving bereaved parents a safe and comfortable setting where they can meet other bereaved parents. Anam Cara is open to all bereaved parents, regardless of the age or circumstances of their child’s death, or whether the death was recent or not. Meanwhile, Anam Cara is hosting its monthly meeting for bereaved parents on Tuesday, November 8, from 7.30pm to 9pm in H Recovery Haven, 5 Haigs Terrace, Killerisk, Tralee, Co. Kerry. The meeting offers parents a safe and comfortable setting where they can connect with other bereaved parents who will understand the depth of their loss and grief. For more information or to order a free copy of the information pack, you can email info@anamcara.ie or ring their Information Line on 085 2888 888.
