NEY were a real landmark attraction when bales of hay decked out to look like a bride and groom were on show outside the Killarney Oaks Hotel recently. They were organised by bride Kara O’Shea when she wanted to surprise her bridegroom Conor McDonagh when he arrived at their reception venue. “He is a farmer so I wanted to incorporate farming in the wedding,” said Kara. “In addition, Kerry Tractors also drove a brand-new Massey Ferguson tractor to the venue decorated in bunting with ‘just married’ on it.” Kara, who is general manager of Sean Taaffe Hair & Beauty Group, is originally from Waterville and was based in Lissivigeen, Killarney, for 11 years, and Conor, an engineer for Brian Scully Services, Newcastle West, is from Ballyagran, Co Limerick. They were wed in St Mary’s Cathedral in a ceremony led by Father Niall Howard and Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae announced the newlyweds and their wedding party into the reception at the Killarney Oaks. Torc Dancers performed after the meal and the Sean Taaffe Glam Crew surprised the guests with hair and makeup touch-

ups at the reception. “I was very close to my granddad Tom Moriarty and August 6 was his birthday so we chose that day for our wedding and dedicated the Mass to him and toasted him during the speeches,” said Kara. The bride’s sister Michelle O’Shea was maid of honour with her friends Marion Keating, Shirley Mahony and Deirdre Clifford as bridesmaids. The groom’s brother Brian McDonagh was best man while Barry O’Kelly, Mike McDonagh and Ed Quilty were groomsmen. Kara’s nieces Cliona and Alanna Walsh were the flower girls. The bride and groom first met six years ago in Killarney and got engaged on December 27, 2015, when Con proposed at the top of Barber Castle on Ballinskelligs beach. Kara looked stunning in a wedding dress she designed herself and which was made by Orlaith Carroll of The Attic Bridalwear Boutique in Limerick. The newlyweds will jet off on honeymoon in November, to Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Dubai. They reside in in Ballingarry, Co Limerick. • If you would like your big day featured in Killarney Advertiser Wedding of the Week contact Eve Kelliher on 064-6632215 or newsdesk@killarneyadvertiser.ie
