Revolutionary Mini Tummy Tuck New treatment arrives in Waterford A new non-surgical, non invasive ‘mini tummy tuck’ treatment is now available in Ireland. It promises to smoothe and sculpt. Hayley McLaughlin investigates. Summer is a stone’s throw away, and whether you plan on spending your summer holidays in a farflung and exotic location or a bit closer to home, most of us are facing the same predicament. Namely, how we can blast our body into shape in time to slip into that body-hugging tee that we bought perhaps a little too optimistically last year, because let’s face it, those pesky few pounds that were supposed to melt away - well, they haven’t lost themselves. Release those deep breaths - there’s hope in sight, and it’s called The Mini Tummy Tuck. Over the past few years there’s been a growing trend in body contouring and body shaping procedures that shrink love handles and reduce fat and cellulite on the abdomen, belly, back, arms, thighs, hips and buttocks. The best part? It’s completely non-invasive. No surgery, no knives, no long recovery times.

Yep - we’re serious. Therapie Clinic was one of the first beauty clinics to start the revolution in Ireland, and they’re helping clients reduce stubborn fat deposits for good - without going under the knife. The treatment has come all the way from Hollywood with a celebrity following that includes Kim Kardashian, Heidi Klum and Britney Spears.

You can typically expect to see results within two weeks It almost sounds too good to be true, but the process is grounded in scientific research which has found that applying heat and cold to troublesome areas helps melt fat cells while leaving skin and muscle tissue unaffected. Treatment takes place using FDA-approved technology, with individual sessions lasting up to 70

minutes. Patients meet with Therapie Clinic’s specialists to discuss the best treatment options for their Mini Tummy Tuck, depending on their individual body shape. The Tummy Tuck employs a bespoke approach of freezing and heating techniques in order to maximise fat loss. The blended programme can reduce fat by up to 40%. You can typically expect to see results within two weeks. It’ll take about 90 days to see the full effects of the body blitzing fat detox. One of the best features of the Mini Tummy Tuck is that it can work for different body types: it’s great for those who are fit and near their optimum weight but still have problem love handles or cellulite. The treatment is also hugely beneficial where

clients wanted to target their tummy area post pregnancy. If you want to see measurable results; toned skin and an improved silhouette, try the non-invasive mini-tummy tuck at Therapie Clinic. It’s a fraction of the cost of a surgical procedure,

and you can get straight back to normal activities immediately. Therapie Clinic is located on Barronstrand Street in Waterford. Call today for a free consultation on 1890 650 750 or see www.therapieclinic.com

The Mayor of Waterford, Cllr John Cummins, and his partner Laura Doolan, at the Mayor’s Charity Ball. A picture on our front page last week of Cllr Cummins and his sister Fiona Cummins at the event appeared under the headline ‘Glamour couple’. We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Ten tips for healthy weight loss cooking Rediscovering food is the key ingredient in your healthy eating plan. Whether your weight loss target is just a few pounds or several stone, going on a diet is never an inviting prospect. Just the thought of it is enough to conjure up visions of dull and boring fare with no prospect of all those tasty favourites that make eating such a pleasure. If you baulk at the mere mention of the dreaded D-word, take heart. Far from depriving yourself, your weight loss programme is a great opportunity to rediscover food and replace your old menu with a host of healthy and delicious new favourites. Think of it not so much as a diet than as a healthy eating plan for life, which will enable you to both reach your desired weight and maintain it long-term.

their high fat equivalents. • Chicken breasts are a great low fat favourite but can become dry and flavourless through overcooking. For a tasty and succulent alernative, try roasting individual breasts on the bone - you will be amazed how much more flavour they retain. Avoid eating the skin though. • Learn to love vegetables. Many such as green peppers, scallions, cabbage, mushrooms and celery are calorie free so you can eat as many as you like. Others such as carrots, peas, green beans and turnips are very low in calories. Soups, salads and stir fries are all great ways of serving vegetables. • Fruit is another great source of low fat, low calorie food. Be careful to avoid fruit juices with added sugar however. When buying tinned fruits, go for those in their own juices rather than syrup or other sugary liquids. • Fish are a healthy, low fat food but let’s face it not to everyone’s taste. If you are a confirmed carnivore, meatier fish such as salmon, tuna, swordfish and monkfish are a great way to introduce your tastebuds to seafood. Motivation has clinics nationwide including a clinic on Canada Street, Waterford. The Irish company is almost 20 years at the forefront of weight management. Clinical studies show that the Motivation programme has an 86% success rate and the company prides itself on having over 100,000 success stories across Ireland including Kilkenny. Programmes are specially designed for men, women and adolescents with any amount of weight to lose and take place through private one to one consultations with experienced advisers.

As you embark on your healthy weight loss journey, here are ten top cooking tips to speed you on your way: • Check the label when shopping for ingredients. You will be amazed how quickly it will become second nature to avoid foods that are high in sugar, fat and calories but low in nutritional value. • Stir-frying is a fast and healthy way to cook meat and vegetables. Make it even healthier by using low fat cooking oil and minimising the amount you need by using an oil spray and a non-stick pan. • Whenever possible, grill, bake, roast, steam or boil food rather than frying with added fat. • Trim visible fat from meat before cooking. Don’t add flour, breadcrumbs or coating mixes during cooking. • Avoid rich sauces made with high fat ingredients such as butter, milk and cream. Add flavour and interest by using low fat dressings and marinades instead. • Whenever possible, go for low fat alternatives to more traditional high fat ingredients. Use yogurt and crème freche instead of cream, margarine or low fat spreads instead Grace Fields, Owner of of butter, and low fat milk and cheese instead of Motivation in Waterford

Motivation’s success is founded on the company’s unique approach to weight management which focuses not just on what people eat but why.

If you would like help with weight loss and management, call the clinic on 051 345365. You can now book an assessment consultation for â‚Ź25 (normal price â‚Ź50).

Business of the week Gadgets Direct Gadgets Direct is a very helpful business for anyone interested in cheap and good quality electronics, from phones to music players to tablet PCs there is a great variety of stuff on offer here. Pre-owned and unlocked iPhones, HTCs and Blackberry’s are the best phones on display and are graded on their

quality; there is no need for a lengthy and expensive contrast at Gadgets Direct. There is also a fourteenday return policy in case you are unsatisfied with your purchase, Gadgets Direct is a very helpful and high quality business for our city, it is located at 23 John Roberts Square.

Hotel of the week Faithlegg House Hotel Faithlegg House Hotel has it all: a perfect location, an incredibly atmospheric building and some of the best rooms and facilities in the country. But one of the highlights of Faithlegg Hotel that I did not expect is its staff. They transform what is already a beautiful establishment into something else, a transcendent experience.

The Faithlegg House Hotel is magical, once you enter you fall into a different world. It is the perfect location for the wedding, l cannot think of anywhere better. Meetings, events and a place to stay are also perfect in this location. I cannot recommend Faithlegg House Hotel enough.

Film of the week Calvary Calvary comes from the same people responsible for 2011’s The Guard and tells the story of a priest in confession who is told by the man on the other end that he’ll kill him by Sunday week. Initially he’s not quite sure what to make of this but the film escalates past this and becomes quiet thrilling as it goes on. It’s a black comedy at heart, and can be very

funny throughout, though it is definitely more serious than The Guard. The cast are all great, with Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd (Moone Boy) and Aidan Gillen (The Wire, Love Hate, Game of Thrones) all putting in great work. Calvary is a very fun and very good movie and I recommend it.

Activity of the week Castlecomer DIscovery Park

Castlecomer Discovery Park is a huge 80-acre park opened to the public in 2007. Set on the grounds of what had been the Wandesforde Estate, the park is located only 20km from Kilkenny City. Inside these 80-acres is a stunning landscape, composed of

forests, lakes and paths that will amaze walkers the world over and provide a lovely experience on any day off. The park also features myriad different activities for all ages, including: the tree top walk, fishing, science and history exhibitions. There are lots of fun times just waiting to be had at the Castlecomer Discovery Park and it’s not far at all from Waterford.

Song of the week Clipping- Work Work Clipping are set to release their new album in June following last year’s Midcity, the band are already presenting a very different sound from then. The original Clipping album was cacophonic and energetic industrial hip-hop; Work Work is neither of these. The instrumentation is minimalist, reminiscent of Autechre, the sound

is almost clinical and sterilized but eerily catchy with a few listens. The guest verse from Cocc Pistol Cree is a definite highlight; it’s still amazing just how few female rappers you hear even now. CLPPNG will be out in June.

Takeout of the week Domino’s Pizza There is a reason that Domino’s Pizza is one of the most popular take out options in the world; they are simply the best at what they do. No other pizza takeout offers the same quality of food, the same quality of service and the same variety in food. Getting a Pizza or anything else from Domino’s is an endlessly

customizable experience, and no matter what combination you finally decide is perfect for you, the quality will always be of the highest standard. Domino’s Pizza is one of our city’s best take out’s and is located at Unit 3 Newtown Road, I highly recommend it.

Pub of the Week The Kazbar The Kazbar unquestionably has some of the best nightlife in the city, with its three floor structure, live music all weekend and great bars there is no place quite as bursting with things to enjoy as The Kazbar. Whether you are in the mood for a good rock band or a DJ set, one of

Kazbar’s three floors has something for you,. As well as this Kazbar has a great cocktail bar and a heated smoking area on its first floor. Whether it’s a great night out, a relaxed lunch, a social get-together or even a business meeting in the day, Kazbar is a great location in the city.

Album of the week Enter the Slasher House The latest project of Animal Collective founding member David Portner (Avey Tare) finds him coupled with Angel Deradoorian (previously of Dirty Projectors) and Jeremy Hyman, the drummer from Ponytail. The album has much resemblance to AC’s previous album: Centipede Hz from 2012, but the songs are much more pared back, raw and poppy, as if Animal Collective was a garage rock band. Angel’s vocals help give this album its own feel, most notably in the single Little Fang where Angel and Portner’s vocals come in together. Overall, it’s a good album and one worth trying if you’re a fan of the type of music.

Gym of the week Kingfisher Fitness Club

Located on the Tramore Road, Kingfisher is a great gym for those in the market for a personalised, modern and highly affordable gym experience in Waterford. The gym has some of the best facilities in the country, with a six lane swimming pool, fully

Restaurant of the Week Harlequin Cafe & Wine Bar Harlequin Café & Wine Bar is about the food, it’s so rare to find a restaurant that simply wants to serve you great food at a low price but this is one. The philosophy of Harlequin Café & Wine Bar is refreshingly minimalist, they enjoy a back to basics approach that specialises in high quality ingredients that are used as effectively as

possible to create a classic but still unique taste. Too many restaurants have food that is just a miasma of different tastes, so overpowering and front loaded that you can’t take pleasure in any specific one; Harlequin is a return to the simple and it is one of the best restaurants in Waterford because of it.

equipped resistance training and free weight areas, a crèche, and over a dozen pitches for sports of all different kinds both inside and outside. On top of this there is also a large variety of courses every day and a great staff that will help you no matter what your goals may be. I highly recommend this gym.

CROSSWORDS All of the clues relate to Catchwords. Can you ďŹ nd the words then ďŹ t them correctly into the grid?

Imagine a group of people each pulling in opposite directions but one vastly outweighing the others. That’s a good image for this week’s lunar eclipse with Jupiter playing the big role. It’s unlikely you won’t feel this tug of war with domestic and family matters screaming for attention. Clearly Tuesday’s lunar eclipse affects everyone. Yet each sign will surely experience a complicated planetary formation in different ways. For you, tension is most likely to be experienced in the work-place and possibly because someone is away from their post. Tuesday’s lunar eclipse has your ruling planet, Mercury, with the Sun and Uranus all at one side of the zodiac and Mars at the other. This suggests a war of words. There might even be more than one of these events. Where you need to take care is not to allow things to get so out of hand. A lunar eclipse (sophisticated Full Moon) is never easy to negotiate. Tuesday could prove extra wild as the planetary formation round the Sun-Moon opposition is rare. As this formation is focused on Cardinal signs (of which you are one), you could feel pulled in at least four different directions. There’s a lunar eclipse this week - on Tuesday. This is one of the most important Full Moons of 2014. As it happens, it’s also part of a complicated planetary formation that you can think of as putting planets at each of the N, S, E and W corners. As with many people, you could feel pulled in many different directions. Tuesday’s lunar eclipse is super-important as it is part of a rare planetary combination. When planets oppose one another it’s not uncommon for people to do the same! So, you could find tension even in those areas that have been calm. Tuesday’s lunar eclipse (think sophisticated Full Moon) is in your sign. Though Mars isn’t exactly close by, it’s still in your sign and not so far from an opposition to Uranus which In turn is at right angles to both Jupiter and Pluto. You may not know which way to turn.

This Week’s lunar eclipse (Tuesday) is special in that it’s part of a rare planetary configuration with your two ruling planets (Mars and Pluto) involved. It’s unlikely that this special Full Moon will pass unnoticed. You may find you’re more anxious than usual that things ‘get done’. Though you may now be more in the mood to discuss long-term projects (for both home and work), first there’s an awkward lunar eclipse (Tuesday) to negotiate. These special Full Moons occur at least twice every year but never in your life-time has there been one like this week’s. Tuesday’s Full Moon is extra-ordinary. It’s part of a rare planetary configuration and is also a lunar eclipse. It would be highly unusual if this celestial event did not coincide with rare events on Earth. These are the kinds of events that hit the headlines and make everyone stop and think. This week’s lunar eclipse (Tuesday) is followed by yet another occultation of Saturn on Thursday. Until this series of Moon-Saturn aspects is cleared (later this year), property and career matters may be in a state of flux. It may be that you know that change is in the air but don’t yet know in what shape. A powerful lunar eclipse could affect the whole world over the next few days. It’s part of a rare planetary configuration of which one of your ruling planets, Jupiter, is part. Circumstances are likely to change as a result. This eclipse - a special kind of Full Moon - is likely to bring emotions to the surface.

• Max Casey takes a look at the best of music, ďŹ lm and literature •

),/0 /D6WUDGD

La Strada symbolized Fellini’s break away from the neo realism style that dominated his early career and most of post-war Italian Cinema until the mid1950s. The ďŹ lm in some ways seems to borrow elements from classic Hollywood, the title sequence is highly traditional, there is very often music played in the background to accentuate the mood, and the cinematography is very theatre-like. Compare this to the documentary style of Rome, Open City from 1945 and you’ll start to see just how much a break this ďŹ lm was from the norm. The ďŹ lm is about a young woman named Gelsomina who is sold into marriage by her mother to an abusive street performer for 10,000 lire after the man brought about the death of her older sister. The man, Zampano, spends the ďŹ lm playing the part of a psychopath, and it is thought that Gelsomina might have some sort of mental handicap, he beats her and abuses her constantly, there is never a moment of sincere affection between Gelsomina and Zampano. The two travel across the country and live day to day, sleeping in ruins. Zampano often leaves Gelsomina lost in some part of a city when he goes off womanizing. It’s a tragedy in a way and one that can be somewhat difficult to watch. Despite their animosity, there is obviously something between the two, whenever one is given a chance to separate from the other they go out of their way to ďŹ nd the other

Most artists ďŹ nd their peak in the early to mid-phase of their careers, whatever their medium may be, but Yeats was a poet who started great and continued improving until his ďŹ nal days. This makes Yeats an incredibly important poet, as there is so little truly great art that explores the mires of old age and the work of Yeats is some of the best you will come across. Politics is a poem that had its debut in 1938, a turbulent and highly political time for the world. The Spanish Civil War was raging, the Third Reich was about to start a fresh world war; it looked as if war was about to consume the world and Yeats was tired. It is one of the man’s simplest poems, at only twelve lines and one stanza, and is easy to understand upon one reading. It’s simply Yeats looking at a pretty girl and brooding on the point of a life spent debating and researching in the political ring; Yeats would much rather hold her in his arms. The writing of the poem is also uncomplicated, no convoluted use of rhythm or prose it is just Yeats

one, whether this be love, a fear of the unknown or something else is difficult to say. The ďŹ lm is grim to its core and rarely gives us a moment of relief. The way the ďŹ lm is shot is very interesting; Fellini famously submitted a 600-page script for the 104 minute ďŹ lm with page after page given over to describing how every single shot should look. The ďŹ lm often makes use of wide, open shots and has things happened in multiple different parts of the screen. It’s fascinating to see how Fellini portrays Italy, covered in ruins from multiple different civilizations, I’m not sure if this was deliberate or if that is what Italy actually looks like but it gives the ďŹ lm a distinct atmosphere that was also somewhat present in 8½. As the vocals were only added later, and that not all the actors could speak Italian, the actors were almost all chosen for their looks and stage presence as opposed to their acting ability but it pays off; Masina’s round face perfectly captures Gelsomina’s youthful innocence, Basehart’s ďŹ ne, cunning features captures his joker, foolish persona and of course, Anthony Quinn perfectly encapsulates the brute that Zampano is. La Strada is a classic of Italian cinema, it is the ďŹ lm that established Fellini as a great ďŹ lm maker, and though critics in Italy initially panned it, the ďŹ lm went on to garner an international reputation that leaked back into its home country. I highly recommend this ďŹ lm.

at his most clear. As students of Yeats will know the man spent many years writing political poetry like the famous September 1913 and Easter 1916 and there is an obvious tinge of regret and bitterness in the poem if you are aware of this context. The ďŹ nal two lines read: ‘But O that I were

young again/and held her in my arms’ and is a line that perfectly encapsulates the late period of Yeats’ poetry. Politics was the last poem that Yeats wrote before his death the following year, it is simply a beautiful work of art and the perfect end to one of the greatest poets who ever lived.

The music of Exuma is not something you hear but something you feel, it cuts right to the soul and is effecting in its passion and sincerity. Exuma, McFarlane Gregory Anthony Mackey, was a musician from the Bahamas who moved to New York at age 17 and would become heavily involved in the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960’s that would bore Bob Dylan and Joan Baez as well as dozens of others. Mackey never lost touch with his origins and his music is a swirling blend of American folk, calypso, jungaloo, reggae and African music; all these inuences come together to create this strange and entirely unique blend of freak folk. Freak folk is a type of folk music that implemented elements of AvantGarde, baroque and psychedelia to bring a new dimension to the genre and Exuma was a pioneer of the style. What makes the music so special is its strong owing rhythm and incredible vocals. Exuma sings of voodoo, obeah and possession, absurd concepts to most listeners but Mackey screams with such passion that you believe, if only for a moment, that he was born of lightning with ďŹ re and brimstone in his mouth as he

states. His voice bypasses your senses and is something felt, something implicit to your very being. It’s clearly inuenced by the likes of gospel and soul and sounds spiritual; like a religious experience. The rhythm on this album carries the vocals and creates something infectious and almost danceable, but by no conventional dance. You feel possessed and hypnotized by the sounds in front of you. The music isn’t complicated by any means, and is something you’ll

probably enjoy from the ďŹ rst listen. The music of Exuma is affecting to the same extent that the music of Captain Beefheart is; it does more than just sound good it inects everything you hear afterwards like stains in your coat. It is not music that you listen to in your car on the way to work and it’s probably not something you’ll break out very often but when the time is right there is nothing like Exuma. I highly recommend this album to everyone.

Crowhammer/ Percolator: central hall This is an interesting combination of the narrative driven Dublin band Crowhammer and the local Waterford band Percolator. Both are very impressive in their own right but together they should be even better.

Apocalypto: Garter Lane arts centre. If you missed this epic in the cinema the first time around this is a perfect opportunity to watch it how it was supposed to be. A very good film about the Mayan Kingdoms decline and a family who are fighting to survive.

Ian Pooley: Crystal Nightclub So today is Easter, not feeling like eating too much chocolate and vegging on the sofa, how about going out to listen to one of the most requested DJs making his return trip to Waterford. This German born DJ is truly great

Barefoot walk: Spar carpark Abbeyside . Barefoot walk alongside the railway track. It should be mentioned that you do not need to barefoot but your dog is, this is a charity dog walk for the Dungarvan rescue kennels.

Calvary: Odeon cinema This is the second time this week I am recommending a film, but this one is a must see. Calvary stars the brilliant Brendan Gleeson, who also starred in the Guard. This film has won IFTAs for best film.

We Banjo Three: Garter Lane Arts Centre These young musicians are widely respected throughout Ireland and this is quite an achievement for a band who will play a mixture of Irish and American banjo music.

Drawing on Nature and the Nature of Drawing by Valerie Stone : Garter Lane arts centre This exhibition is based on Waterford’s remarkable natural environments. Her art is a mixture of different painting instruments and it is very moving.

5LR Blue Sky Entertainment has been churning out highenergy computer-animated features for over a decade. They’ve had big hits with the Ice Age franchise, Horton Hears a Who, and Rio. Yet this studio hasn’t earned the kind of esteemed reputation of its biggest competitors, DreamWorks and Pixar. Considering Rio 2, it’s little wonder why. Once more, Blue Sky Entertainment has offered a perfectly adequate kid’s movie, but nothing that more mature audiences will ďŹ nd especially compelling. Rio introduced Blu, a nebbish, ightless Spix’s Macaw who experiences culture shock when he’s taken to meet his assigned mate Jewel in Rio de Janeiro. This lively locale is where the sequel picks up, with Blu (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) raising their three chicks with all the modern (human) conveniences, like pancakes, iPods, and televi-

This time, this cruel Cockatoo has found a minion in Gabi (Kristin Chenoweth), a poisonous frog who is utterly infatuated with him. 7KHUHDUHORWVRIIXQPR PHQWV5LRXQIXUOVDVSLULWHG MRXUQH\SHSSHUHGZLWKSOXFN\ DFWLRQVRPHURXVLQJPXVLFDO QXPEHUVDQGDGDVKRIVLOO\ VODSVWLFN%XWWKHVHSDUDWHSORW WKUHDGVDUHVORSSLO\ODFHGWR JHWKHUEDUUHOLQJWRDUHVROXWLRQ WKDWIHHOVUXVKHGDQGRYHUO\ SDWDIWHUVRPXFKEXLOGXS 8OWLPDWHO\5LRLVDÂżQHELW RIHQWHUWDLQPHQWEXWQRWKLQJ PRUH

AD POSTURE can cause a lack of conďŹ dence, causing us to be self-conscious in situations where you have to stand in front of a group of people, at communions, weddings‌the swimming pool or beach probably being the worst! Sometimes if we’re in a position of head bowed and shoulders slumped, it can make it harder to come from a position of authority. But also it’s bad for our breathing, muscles and can even cause depression.

Waterford Mail

BALANCE If the posture is good, there is a state of balance between the muscular and skeletal systems. We then need to use the smallest amount of effort from the muscles and ligaments to keep this balance which leads to less wear and tear, and protects against damage and injury to the joints, muscles, vertebrae and other tissues. For example, every inch of forward head posture can increase the weight of the head on the spine by an additional 10lbs, causing extreme pressure on the front muscles of the neck which tighten and strengthen to carry the additional weight. The muscles of the back of the neck and upper back become weak and lengthened and can often cause a lot of pain.

PERFECT POSTURE We can assess our posture by comparing it to an ideal posture. In essence we are looking for a neutral spine. Our spine is not straight, but s-shaped, with three main curves, one in the neck, one in the upper back and one in the lower back. Neutral spine exists when the segments are aligned in their correct positions, and those three curves are balanced equally on top of one another. The muscles and ligaments are imparting the smallest possible force and the body is

balanced. Ideally we could draw a straight, vertical line through ears, shoulders, hips, wrists, knees and ankles. We need to use little effort to keep the body upright, which is often why people with unbalanced posture can feel constantly tired, resulting from the effort of having to use fatigued muscles to keep their body upright. Working on muscle groups, speciďŹ c to your requirements, will help correct the posture but we should also be aware of our everyday habits. For example, we can develop a habit of hunching up the shoulders and sticking the chin forward when driving. This is exhausting and can easily be rectiďŹ ed by just being aware of it whenever you sit in the car. Poor posture can also result in a more shallow breath which can lead to low energy levels. There is an old yogic saying Life is in the breath. He who half breathes, half lives. So really, it’s not just the aesthetic aspect of poor posture that’s important but also the way it effects our whole bodies. Trish Hayden, YogaToGo, teaches Total Barre and Yoga in The Watershed, Lyrath Estate Hotel, Castlecomer and Callan. She also teaches one to one yoga sessions for speciďŹ c requirements. and ďŹ nd out why they’re making their way into kitchen cupboards across the world! I often add chia to porridge, sprinkle onto of a salad, add to a fruit and veg smoothie or incorporate them in home baking.

T

HESE wholegrain seeds from the South American plant Salvia Hispanica (a member of the mint family) are increasingly popping up in cook books and recipes. Native to Central and South America, Chia seeds have been a traditional food since ancient times and boasting medicinal properties. Let’s look a little deeper into the nutrition and health beneďŹ ts surrounding these tiny black seeds

OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS Chia seeds are a great vegetarian source of the Omega 3 essential fatty acid, Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA). It is ‘essential’ that we get ALA from our diet, as our bodies can’t make it. These essential fatty acids have anti-inammatory properties, offering health beneďŹ ts to a number of chronic diseases such as Heart disease. FIBRE Chia seeds are a great source of gluten and wheat free ďŹ bre. Chia is high in both soluble and insoluble ďŹ bre providing a total of 5g ďŹ bre in two dessert spoons. Chia bia is hydrophilic, meaning that the seeds can absorb up to 10 times their weight in liquid. The

seeds promote bowel movement by increasing the water content and bulk volume of our stools (number 2s!), keeping us nice and regular. Fibre is important in the prevention of bowel cancer, constipation and slowing the absorption of sugar into our blood stream. MINERALS Chia seeds are a source of the minerals Calcium, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and Selenium – all essential for optimal growth and repair of our bodies. As part of a varied, balanced diet, Chia seeds can make a signiďŹ cant contribution

to meeting the recommended daily amounts of these minerals. The antioxidants contained in Chia include avonoids: Quercetin, Kaempferol, and Myricetin also contribute to good health. EGG-FREE BAKING Use Chia seeds as a replacement for eggs in your baking recipes. Ideal, when you’re catering for vegans or those with an egg allergy. Also, it’s a great tip to know for occasions when you’ve simply run out of eggs for baking. Mix one tablespoon of Chia seeds with three tablespoons of water (per egg in recipe).

CAUTION The health beneďŹ ts of Chia seeds are best achieved in complement with a varied, healty diet. Natural health supplements sometimes have unexpected side effects or interactions with medication that can lead to adverse reactions. A ďŹ nal note of caution though – discuss their use with your GP if you’re taking blood thinning medication or medications for blood glucose and blood pressure control. Chia seeds may increase the lowering effect of these mediations. Chia seed is a natural blood thinner and has anti-coagulant properties. If you take blood-thinning medication (eg aspirin or warfarin), talk to you doctor before using chia. Further research is underway to investigate other possible health beneďŹ ts.

Get ready for summer with Therapie’s

NEW Brazilian

Bum Lift T

here’s a renewed interest in voluptuous backsides, as Kim Kardashian and other celebrities regularly update us on their best assets. Not everyone is genetically blessed with such an attractive line to their figure, and some have quietly resorted to plastic surgery involving fat grafting or implants for enhancement. Now you can eliminate a sagging behind; add shape and volume and get terrific results without any of the risk or expense of surgery. Therapie Clinic introduces the Non-Invasive Brazilian Bum Lift; the most effective way to enhance your rear appeal; sculpt the curves of your derriere and erase cellulite using the latest non-surgical breakthrough in body contouring.

Traditional buttock augmentation involves surgical redistribution of fatty tissue to create anaesthetically pleasing shape to a flat behind; an expensive procedure that carries risk and a long recovery time. Therapie Clinic uses clinically proven technology to allow patients to benefit from a tighter, lifted and contoured behind, with improved firmness, toned smooth skin and better contouring of the buttocks in only three treatments. The procedure has no downtime; is a fraction of the cost of a surgical procedure and is proven to be safe and effective. The Therapie Clinic non-invasive Brazilian Bum Lift uses a combination of bipolar radio frequency and infrared heat with vacuum rollers to travel painlessly through the body’s

WAS € NOW750 ONL Y

€295 layer of subcutaneous fat. The combination of technologies melts the fat pockets that cause dimpled and lumpy skin, repositioning some of the malleable fat for a more appealing buttock contour. Broken down liquefied fat is then disposed of naturally by the body. The treatment has several effects; reducing loose skin; stretch marks and cellulite from the thighs and saddlebags while simultaneously lifting and shaping the buttocks for a shapely silhouette. The clinic is also offering an amazing introductory price at only €295 for 3 sessions. Book your free consultation today, contact Therapie Clinic, in Waterford. Love Your Skin

Terrific Therapie: They are tops with bottoms! BY THE WATERFORD MAIL

S

OME PEOPLE are unfortunate in that they have no derrieres. Something I’ve always wanted was a nice pert bum. A good behind is something which one can be upfront about, if you get my drift. Bottoms up and all that! So when I was asked to try out the new Brazilian Bum Lift I was definitely intrigued. Blown away, delighted to be asked. And, after all, I had nothing to lose so why not give it a go? I arrived at Therapie, Waterford and was met by a group of friendly and quite warm women. They were very welcoming, put me at ease, calming any nerves which I obviously showed. Sultanah my therapist was reassuring, reminding that all would be fine and I

would relish the experience. To be honest, I didn’t know what to expect. She explained to me that the treatment could be a little painful. But Sultanah was extremely gentle and I found the experience quite relaxing. The treatment was a-40 minute session with an Infrared, Rolling, Suction device which elevates muscle and teaches the muscle to sit high. ‘I was impressed’ Sultanah made me feel very comfortable through the entire treatment session. The instant difference was uncanny. I was impressed, very impressed and yearning for session two. Something new had come into my life and with a ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’ attitude, I returned to Therapie for my second treatment. Some clients may bruise slightly after a treatment, I was told, but I had no bruising,

no soreness, no aches or pains. In short, I was not fazed by the second visit. The treatment proved to be much easier as I knew exactly what to expect. Therapie had put me in the picture after the first session, photographs telling me exactly how the treatment was progressing. Photographs were again taken after my second treatment and my bum was taking a pleasing round shape. I knew the treatment was working. I was so happy that I had agreed to take part in the Therapie session. I had made new friends and learned a lot about myself. For my final treatment I was excited and full of beans, bursting to view the finished product. New found confidence Another 40 minutes went speedily by mainly because I was relaxed and infused with a new found confidence.

Sultanah took my final photos and we compared them to when I started. To say I was absolutely thrilled with the results would be the understatement of the year. Going from a flat backside to actually having a backside really delights and excites me. And I know people have noticed it. I’ve even had comments on my new rear. A pat on the back is welcomed by most people. A pat on the backside can be uplifting too! I am recommending the Brazilian Bum Lift to my family, neighbours and friends, indeed anyone who wants to listen.

BEFORE

AFTER The programme consists of three treatment sessions but there is an option to include more. I will definitely be returning to Therapie to ensure that I keep my shape. I am so grateful to Sultanah my therapist, Sarah the manager and all the girls at Therapie for looking after me and for being so kind and thoughtful.
