LIBRARY+ CALOUNDRA A New Chapter for Families

THE SUNSHINE COAST’S NEWEST CULTURAL HUB, LIBRARY+ CALOUNDRA , HAS OFFICIALLY OPENED ITS DOORS, AND IT’S ALREADY SHAPING UP TO BE THE COAST'S FAVOURITE FAMILY-FRIENDLY DESTINATION.

Located at 1 Omrah Avenue, the stunning new multi-level library is more than a place to borrow books. It’s a dynamic hub for learning, creativity and connection, designed with families rmly in mind. From imaginative play spaces to creative studios and a co ee shop for parents to relax in, Library+ is a modern reimagining of what a community library can be.

A LIBRARY, PLUS SO MUCH MORE

At the opening celebration, Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Rosanna Natoli described the new facility as “a vibrant, inclusive and future-focused space, one that responds to the needs of a growing population and evolving community expectations.” And it really is that. Books remain at the heart of the experience, but the new Library+ adds opportunities for connection, wellbeing, and play. With dedicated areas for children, digital studios for teens and adults, and exible community venues, there’s something for everyone.

Councillor Terry Landsberg said it best: “ is is a library rst and books remain at the heart of the experience, but that’s just the beginning.”

THE CHILDREN’S LIBRARY: A WONDERLAND OF DISCOVERY

For parents and carers, the standout feature has to be the children’s zone — a purpose-built space designed to spark curiosity in even the youngest readers.

Bright, playful, and interactive, it includes:

• An activity wall to keep hands busy and minds engaged.

• Vibrant play spaces that invite exploration and imagination.

TOP 5 THINGS FAMILIES WILL LOVE ABOUT LIBRARY+ CALOUNDRA

1. THE CHILDREN’S ZONE

Bright play spaces, an activity wall and snug reading cubbies make it a wonderland for little readers.

2. FAMILY-FRIENDLY PROGRAMS

From storytime to creative workshops, the bumper program of activities keeps kids learning and engaged.

3. FLEXIBLE SPACES

Cosy reading nooks, covered outdoor areas, and quiet study zones mean there’s a spot for everyone.

4. AFTER-HOURS COLLECTION

Busy families can pick up reserved books at a time that suits them, even outside regular hours.

5. CAFÉ & COMMUNITY VIBES

Grab a co ee while the kids explore, or join in a community puzzle at the jigsaw table.

• Cosy reading cubbies where kids can curl up with their favourite stories.

• A huge toy library with the latest toys and games.

It’s a space that feels equal parts playground and storybook world, making the joy of reading and literacy both tangible and irresistible. And the library team has plans that will see the space bursting with energy over the coming months, thanks to a comprehensive program of guided tours, hands-on activities, and creative sessions, all designed to help locals become familiar with everything the new Library+ has to o er.

A SUSTAINABLE STEP FORWARD

It’s not just families who’ll bene t. Library+ is also a win for the planet.

e building boasts a 6-Star Green Star rating, thanks to features such as solar panels, water-saving systems, energy-e cient design, and battery storage that feeds excess energy back into the grid.

Even during construction, the project prioritised sustainability: more than 90 per cent of demolition materials were recycled or repurposed, and furniture was given a second life instead of being sent to the land ll.

CLEVER SPACES FOR

EVERYONE

• After-hours reservation collection, making it easier for busy families to pick up books when it suits them

• Quiet zones for homework or solo study

• AV booths and sound-insulated areas for teens needing a tech-ready study spot

• Covered outdoor areas for fresh-air reading

And when the kids are happily reading? Parents can sneak in a co ee at the groundoor café or relax in one of the many cosy nooks scattered throughout the building.

PLAN YOUR VISIT

Located in the heart of Caloundra, Library+ makes it easy to tie a library trip into a family day out. Once you’ve explored the kids’ zone, you’re just steps away from beaches, boutique shops and a host of eateries.

WHY FAMILIES WILL LOVE IT

For parents, Library+ Caloundra o ers something rare: a space where learning, play, and community all come together under one roof. It’s a safe and stimulating environment for kids to discover the magic of books, and a welcoming spot for families to spend quality time together.

As Councillor Landsberg encouraged: “I invite everyone in our community to come and see how you might use and enjoy this new space.”

For local families, that might mean a weekly trip to Storytime, a rainy-day play session in the kids’ zone, or even a quiet moment with a co ee while the kids choose their next favourite book to borrow.

One thing’s for certain: Library+ Caloundra isn’t just a library, it’s the start of many new family stories.

❶ Cosy reading nooks in the Children's Library; ❷ Mats and Kai check out the play spaces; ❸ Children's Library bookshelves; ❹ The ribbon cutting to o cially open the Library+ Caloundra: (L to R) Anne Wensley, Division 2 Councillor Terry Landsberg, Mayor Rosanna Natoli and Aunty Helena Gulash; ❺ Fiction collection and library help desk; ❻ Crowds gather at the entrance before the opening ceremony; ❼ Tiered seating in the library foyer.

Helping Kids Shine Brighter in 2026

While many of us are wrapping presents and planning summer holidays, thousands of Queensland children are facing a very di!erent reality. Each day, around 500 domestic and family violence incidents are reported across the state, leaving too many kids without safety, stability, or hope for the future.

SunnyKids is determined to make 2026 a brighter future for kids and families in need through its annual Sponsor a Child program.

“Sponsoring a child for one year through SunnyKids will help the child receive the critical support they need to thrive. Sponsorship helps to ensure children have the right school uniform, school supplies, essential medical

and psychological care,” says SunnyKids CEO Kathleen Hope.

A 12-month sponsorship gives SunnyKids the certainty to plan ahead and tailor care for each child’s unique needs.

“We need your help to continue our important work and to expand our services so that we can provide much-needed support to families and children in our community.”

“Your generosity can have a farreaching impact on the children in families we support. Together with SunnyKids, you can help create a future where all people impacted by domestic violence receive the support they need.”

Dads Community: A Lifeline of Connection for Fathers in SEQ

Raising kids shouldn’t feel like a solo mission. Yet for many dads, isolation is becoming the norm. On the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane, one grassroots movement is changing that narrative from the ground up.

Dads Community was founded in 2022 by Stephen Hirst, known to many as the ‘Dad Mentor’. A proud father to Taylor and Kai, Stephen created the group during the darkest chapter of his life. After his marriage ended and his family unit fell apart, he found himself overwhelmed, anxious, and questioning whether he was doing enough. “I hit rock bottom,” he says. “I realised if I was feeling this alone, other dads must be too.”

What began as a simple Facebook page quickly grew into a lifeline. A casual BBQ turned into dozens of dads showing up, and today, more

than 3,400 fathers across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast are part of the community. Stephen even made the bold decision to sell his family home to fully commit to supporting men who are struggling.

e group focuses on prevention and belonging — o ering futsal games, walking groups, BBQs, darts, hiking, 4WD days, shing trips and more. Each event is built around connection, honesty and judgement-free conversations.

“We want dads to feel supported, con dent, and part of something meaningful,” Stephen says. “Because when dads thrive, families thrive.”

“Whether you’re navigating the highs or the challenges of parenting, you’re welcome here.”

Dads can join via Facebook at “Dads Community Public.”

“Together, we’re building the village our kids deserve.”

Te Perfect Way to Capture a Baby’s First Year

Which is precisely why Yure J Photography’s new Baby’s First Year package feels so special. It gives you a chance to slow time down, just a little, and capture the magic in the moment.

!is thoughtful package includes three beautiful sessions: a newborn shoot, a six-month milestone session, and a oneyear celebration. Each session is baby-led, meaning the pace and moments are all guided by how your little one is feeling.

Newborn shoots are calm, relaxed, and natural; six-month sessions

Family, Flavour and the Frozen Art of Growing Happy

WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU MIX A FAMILY DREAM, A SPRINKLE OF CREATIVITY, AND A SCOOP OF DETERMINATION? NOOSA’S HAPPIEST GELATO SUCCESS STORY.

In a town famous for long lunches and designer boutiques, Happy Pops has carved its own niche on Noosa’s Hastings Street — serving handcrafted gelato that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. Founded by chef Augusta Puttkammer and her husband Ian, the brand has become synonymous with summer on the Sunshine Coast. What began as a single beachside outlet has grown into a small but mighty dessert empire, with thriving outposts in Mooloolaba, Brisbane’s South Bank and Bluey's World — proof that a simple idea, executed beautifully, can go a long way.

FROM CHEF TO CHIEF HAPPINESS OFFICER

A chef by trade, Augusta spent years in food product development before swapping corporate kitchens for coastal life. “Ian and I wanted the Noosa lifestyle, like so many others who move here,” she says. “He has a business background, and I’ve always loved desserts. Ice cream was our shared dream.” Together, they started experimenting in their home kitchen, testing !avour combinations late into the night. What emerged was a concept that felt both nostalgic and fresh: artisanal gelato and sorbet pops, crafted by hand, dipped in chocolate, and sprinkled with all manner of toppings. “ e idea of putting it all on a stick just made people smile,” Augusta says. “It’s playful, interactive, and most importantly, delicious.”

THE ART OF THE POP

e Happy Pops experience begins with choice… and plenty of it. Customers start with a “naked” pop, made fresh from locally sourced ingredients. Classic !avours like vanilla bean chocolate and strawberry sit alongside vegan hazelnut gelato and tangy mango sorbet, with new creations rotating monthly.

From there, the fun truly begins: choose your chocolate drizzle, add your toppings, and collect your yummy creation.

“For those who can’t decide, we also have premium pops pre-decorated by our in-house pastry chef, like vanilla gelato swirled with pavlova and fresh passionfruit, topped with white chocolate and freeze dried raspberries,” Augusta adds. “But the idea is to give people ownership of their creation; that sense of play is at the heart of what we do.”

Happy Pops also serves warm options like chocolate chip cookies and Belgian chocolate brownies that you can decorate just the way you like it, all served on a stick... naturally.

MORE THAN JUST GOOD LOOKS

Of course, part of Happy Pops’ magic lies in its visual appeal. “People buy it the rst time because they look beautiful,” Augusta admits. “When you see them lined up in the cabinet, all those colours and textures, it’s striking. But then they come back for the !avour. You have to follow through with the taste and the experience.”

It’s a simple formula, but the details are what set Happy Pops apart. Every pop is handmade in Noosa in small batches, using real ingredients and no arti cial colours or !avours. “We’re very mindful of what goes into our products,” Augusta explains. “When we did a limitededition bubblegum pop, the bright blue came from butter!y-pea powder — completely natural. We want parents to feel con dent giving these to their kids.” at small-batch approach is also what keeps quality front and centre. “We focus on that perfect balance,” she says. “It’s indulgent, but it’s also real food. We want every product to have that same sense of craft. Growth is exciting, but never at the cost of what makes us special.”

A BALANCING ACT

Behind the pastel pops and sunny storefronts lies a reality familiar to many small-business owners — juggling entrepreneurship with parenting. e couple have two young children and, as Augusta admits, “ e juggling is intense but fun!” She laughs. “It’s full-on, but when you’re building something that’s truly yours, it’s worth it. Our kids love being part of it too — they think having a gelato shop is the coolest thing ever.”

For Augusta and Ian, it’s always been a priority to build a business and lifestyle where family comes rst while still being fully present in a growing company.

HAPPY POPS IS OPEN FOR FRANCHISING... IT ALLOWS US TO SHARE OUR BUSINESS MODEL WITH PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN THE BRAND AND THE HAPPINESS IT CREATES

“We’re 100% family owned and operated, so business talk over dinner or around the pool on holidays is normal for us! I stopped thinking of it as ‘I have to work while on holiday’ and started thinking ‘I get to be on holiday with my kids while still managing my business’. Once I made that mindset shift, I felt liberated and fell even more in love with what we do.”

!at family spirit "lters through to the brand itself. Walk into any Happy Pops store and you’re greeted not by sta , but by a team that feels like family. “We want every person to leave with a smile,” Augusta says. “It’s not just about dessert; it’s about connection.”

And that connection is evident across the local community. “Supporting kids’ sports clubs, nippers, and community events has always been a really important part of what we do. It keeps us grounded, connected, and true to our roots.”

HAPPINESS ON A STICK… EXPANDS

What began on Hastings Street has since spread across South-East Queensland. !eir second location opened in Brisbane’s South Bank in 2019, the Mooloolaba Esplanade store joined

the family in late 2022, and Happy Pops can also be purchased at Bluey's World, Brisbane.

“We're also launching another exciting wholesale deal very soon, but I can't say much more on that yet!”

Now, as the brand matures, Augusta and Ian are opening the doors for others to join the journey. “Happy Pops is open for franchising,” Augusta reveals. “It’s an exciting step, and it allows us to share our business model with people who believe in the brand and the happiness it creates.”

“For us, franchising will always be about our franchisees’ success, and after eight years, we "nally feel con"dent that we can o er the proper support to set them up for success, while still keeping family at the heart of everything we do.”

According to Augusta, Happy Pops is a great "t for "rst-time business owners, women and families chasing a lifestyle-aligned venture, and anyone who loves being front-of-house in a lively, people-centred environment.

“!e best franchise partners will love their customers, take pride in their store, and make

every visit feel special, no matter what.”

While Happy Pops has its roots "rmly in Noosa, Augusta’s vision is far from small.

“We’d love to see Happy Pops in other parts of Queensland, across Australia and one day across the globe’. No dream is too big,” she says. "

“But whatever happens, Noosa will always be home. It’s where we started; it’s where we make everything. !at’s really important to us.”

“When we started, we just wanted to create something that made people happy,” Augusta re ects. “Eight years later, that’s still the goal.”

And if the long lines and smiling faces outside their stores are anything to go by, mission accomplished.

From super mum to mental health advocate

Tamara Solien is pursuing her passion for supporting others by helping the First Nations community to find their strength, overcome their challenges, and embrace their futures, after completing a Certificate IV in Mental Health online through TAFE Queensland.

After 11 years as a stay-at-home mum of five, Tamara Solien has successfully turned her compassionate and caring nature into a career supporting others as a mental health support worker with Staying Deadly Hub – a service run by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health that provides specialised mental health care to mob across South East Queensland.

Drawn to the Certificate IV in Mental Health after witnessing her brothers struggle with their own mental health, the 37-year-old initially enrolled in online study as a way to keep her mind active while trying to better understand her siblings’ experiences and challenges.

“Like many people who haven’t experienced mental illness themselves, I’d often find myself getting frustrated. The solution seemed so simple and I’d think, ‘why don’t you just stop these behaviours, or just do things this way?’. So, initially I wanted to learn more so I could gain more insight into what my brothers were going through,” Tamara said.

“The idea of returning to study and work was so scary after being out of the workforce for so long, so I wanted to make sure I was pursing something I was passionate about. If I was going to be stepping back from being a fulltime mum to my kids, it needed to be worth it – I had to get real fulfilment from it. I really loved this course and found it super interesting.”

Balancing her studies alongside parenting, Tamara said the flexibility of studying online made the completion of her course in June 2025 manageable.

“The online space was great and enabled me to have my youngest with me while I studied. While it was hard work, the fact that I could catch up on classes and do it at my own pace was perfect. I would even play my class recordings and listen to them while I was in the car driving,” she said.

“The teachers were amazing too, and if I didn’t understand something or needed that extra guidance, they were always so supportive and helpful.”

However, it wasn’t without its challenges, with Tamara juggling motherhood, grieving the loss of several family members, supporting her father, mother and brothers, and planning her wedding, all within the 12 months of her studies.

“My dad is staying with me as he has some health issues, and my mother, who lives in far north Queensland, has been having health issues as well. We also lost my aunty, uncle and cousin on my dad’s side, so I was trying to support my dad and grieve, while supporting my mum with her health and my brothers with their mental health at the same time. And that’s all while trying to be the best mum I could be for my five children,” Tamara says.

“I was trying to be an anchor for everyone while achieving my own goals and planning a wedding on top of all of that, so it was incredibly stressful. There were many times where I almost dropped the course so I could just focus on everything else that was going on, but I’m so glad I pushed through.”

It was during her vocational placement with The Murri School that Tamara—a proud Torres Strait Islander woman with a connection to Badu Island—realised just how much it meant to her to be able to support those most vulnerable in her community.

“I felt particularly drawn to helping Indigenous mums. Being a mum myself and going back to study, I lacked confidence in myself and worried I wasn’t smart enough, so I wanted to support other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers who felt the same,” Tamara said.

She then completed a placement with Ipswich-based First Nations mental health service, Staying Deadly Hub,

where she left a lasting impression that earned her a job upon graduation.

“When I stepped into placement with Staying Deadly, I was terrified, but it felt so amazing to play a role in supporting the clients they let me sit in on. I honestly feel so lucky to have a job I love with a team who are doing such amazing work. This is my reward for sticking it out with my studies, despite the challenges. I absolutely love it,” Tamara said.

Tamara started out as a mental health wellbeing support worker, sitting in with clients when they meet with psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health nurses and care coordinators, to offer support in what can be a difficult and emotionally-charged situation. However, she quickly impressed her employer, achieving her goal of being promoted to care coordinator within just a few short months.

“It’s been amazing to put everything I’ve learned into practise,” Tamara said.

“Seeing someone leave a session in a lighter mood and better headspace, knowing I helped, is so rewarding.”

With Beyond Blue reporting that First Nations people are twice as likely to experience psychological distress than non-indigenous Australians, and 2.5 times more likely to die by suicide, the support Tamara and her colleagues at Staying Deadly Hub offer is crucial.

“For a lot of Indigenous Australians, there is a lot of distrust in the system, and a fear of hospitals and institutions, so having a service like this that is in a more relaxed space and that provides support from people who understand and have that lived experience is so important,” Tamara said.

While Tamara is happy in her dream role of supporting others, she insists her journey isn’t over just yet, with her study success inspiring her to continue growing her skills and career.

“I’m now looking at the future and how I can keep ensuring I give the best support to my clients, so I’d love to do a dual diploma in mental health and alcohol and other drugs down the track,” she explains.

“For now though, I’m just so happy to get to make a difference in the way I am.”

According to Jobs Queensland data, employment opportunities for social workers are anticipated to grow by 9 per cent state-wide over the five years from 2023-2028.

You Future

Why every child needs a little more STEM in their life.

If you’ve ever watched your child gure out how to make a paper plane y straighter or mix the perfect shade of purple with half the craft cupboard, you’ve seen STEM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Maths) in action. ese are not just subjects, but the building blocks of how kids make sense of the world.

All kids need STEM in their lives — not to become a scientist one day, but to be happier, more con dent, and more capable right now. at’s precisely why the Future You program was developed. Hosted by UNSW, Future You is a nationwide STEM program designed speci cally for children aged 8–12. It’s completely free, family-friendly, and designed to help kids see STEM not as something ‘for other kids,’ but as something relevant, exciting, and genuinely part of their future.

WHY EARLY STEM EXPOSURE MATTERS

Research consistently shows that early engagement in STEM leads to better outcomes — academically, socially, and even emotionally. Kids who think of themselves as ‘good at science’ or ‘con dent with numbers’ do better across the board. ese mindset shifts start early, and they’re powerful.

And it makes sense. STEM skills aren’t reserved for labs or coding clubs. ey’re used every single day:

• Converting measurements while cooking

• Solving problems through trial and error

• Designing the perfect LEGO tower that actually stands up

• Working out the quickest way across the monkey bars

However, if children don’t see the relevance of STEM early and often, they can disengage. And that disengagement is di cult to reverse.

STEREOTYPES ARE STILL SHAPING OUR KIDS

You might think the old ‘scientist in a lab coat’ stereotype is long gone. Unfortunately, not quite.

Across nearly 80 repeats of the famous ‘draw a scientist’ experiment since 1966, where children are asked to draw a scientist, children continue to imagine scientists as predominantly male, primarily white, and working alone. A 2025 study found that 82% of kids drew a male scientist, 86% drew someone Caucasian, and 88% portrayed them working in isolation. ese limiting images matter. Kids absorb the message: STEM isn’t for me.

Children start forming ideas about jobs long before high school. In fact, by the end of primary school, many kids have already ruled out whole career pathways based on stereotypes they’ve picked up from family, school, media and the world around them.

MEET REAL ROLE MODELS WITH PATHFINDERS

Future You introduces kids to real STEM role models, called Path nders, who are everyday Australians who use STEM in creative, unexpected, and deeply human ways. Wildlife Conservation O cer, Game Designer, Augmented Reality Expert, Food Scientist. Career exploration at this age isn’t about choosing a job; it’s about discovering your passions and interests. It’s about building con dence, and nurturing a mindset that says, “I can try things. I can learn things. I can be part of this.”

And the best part? Future You makes it easy … and free. Explore the stories together, dive into the resources, and watch their con dence grow. eir future self will thank you.

Pitch Perfect

The ultimate in glamping, family style

Can families really have it all on holiday — camping adventures, holiday celebrations AND resort-style luxury? We check out the new safari retreats at BIG4 Gold Coast to find out.

Camping has always held a certain simplistic charm. Fresh air, starry nights, enjoying the outdoors and slowing down. Plus, it has always been a budget-friendly way for families to unwind from the world and reconnect with each other. But let’s be honest: it also comes with a fair share of inconveniences. Wrestling with tent poles, braving a midnight dash to the amenities block, or cramming the car with everything from air mattresses to eskies doesn’t exactly scream ‘holiday’ for the grown-ups!

But, with the perfect fusion of luxury and adventure, glamping offers families the joy of the outdoors with all the creature comforts of

a boutique stay. And on the Gold Coast, the new safari retreats at BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park take camping to another level, seamlessly blending a nature-immersed experience with high-end design.

No caravan. No stress. Just a glass of wine in hand, the kids happily exploring, and you relaxing on the deck overlooking Saltwater Creek. This isn’t just camping… It’s outdoor holidays reimagined.

STEP INSIDE THE FAMILY SAFARI

RETREAT

The first surprise about BIG4’s safari retreats is that they barely resemble tents at all. Sure, the canvas exterior gives a nod to the traditional

camping set-up, but step inside and you’re greeted with a thoughtfully designed retreat. Sleeping up to six, the tents feature a queen bed, two single beds, and a bunk bed, making them ideal for families with a mix of little ones and older children.

Each tent has been custom-built with style in mind, with saloon-style timber doors, custom furniture, and a clever bed nook that feels both cosy and fun for kids. A full bathroom (yes, with proper plumbing) means hot showers on demand, and the well-appointed kitchenette has everything from a fridge and microwave to cutlery, crockery and even a toaster.

But, like all camping escapes, it’s outside where the magic really happens, and the safari

retreats do not disappoint. The deck comes complete with a sumptuous outdoor lounge for lazy afternoons. Relax under the open sky while birds chatter in the trees gives these new retreats their x-factor.

For families, this set-up means comfort for the adults and adventure for the kids. Parents can relax with a view over the river, while children still get that camping thrill of being “out in nature.” And unlike traditional camping, you won’t be sacrificing a good night’s sleep. Reverse-cycle air conditioning keeps the space comfortable year-round, and with all linen included, there’s no last-minute scramble to pack sheets or towels.

The busy holiday park has also added

two 3-Bedroom Deluxe Retreats (sleep 10) and two 2-Bedroom Villas to its growing accommodation options, making it an option for even more families this summer.

BEYOND THE TENTS AT BIG4 GOLD COAST

Of course, a stay at BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park is about more than just where you sleep. This is a destination that’s built for families. At the heart of the park is the water park, a towering play structure boasting more than 300 metres of slides. From twisting aquatubes to the multi-lane racer slide, kids of all ages (and their parents) will happily spend hours here. The tipping bucket is a favourite with

Safari Retreat HIGHLIGHTS

kids, and the poolside cabanas with QR code ordering are a highlight for the parents.

Beside the water park is a tropical resort-style pool and spa, perfect for families who prefer a slower pace. The pool is heated for year-round swimming, while the oversized spa offers the ultimate unwind after a busy day exploring.

Younger children aren’t forgotten either, with an eco-friendly playground made from recycled materials. Featuring climbing nets, swings, a double cableway and even bouldering blocks, it encourages active play while teaching little ones about sustainability.

When hunger strikes, the on-site Nibbles Café is a saviour for parents who’d rather skip the cooking. Serving everything from stone-

COME EASTER, FAMILIES CAN HOP INTO A WORLD OF PASTEL-COLOURED DELIGHTS WITH THE PARK’S ANNUAL EASTER EXTRAVAGANZA.

fired pizzas and burgers to seafood specials and a solid kids’ menu, it’s relaxed, affordable, and family-friendly. For those who prefer to whip up a meal themselves, the camp kitchen and BBQ areas are large, well-equipped and perfect for a communal cook-up.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park also offers a full-size basketball court, frisbee golf, a giant jumping pillow, and the delightful Magic Express train ride, which winds its way through the park’s leafy grounds. Add in free WiFi, spotless amenities, and a commercial-size laundry

(with complimentary detergent), and you’ve got a park that blends convenience with entertainment.

Perhaps best of all, the location couldn’t be more convenient. Just minutes from the Gold Coast’s biggest attractions — Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet’n’Wild, Dreamworld and Australian Outback Spectacular — it’s the ultimate launchpad for a family adventure. Yet, because the park sits on 32 acres of landscaped grounds, it still feels tucked away from the city’s hustle and bustle.

CELEBRATING EVERY SEASON

In addition to the regular activities and entertainment on offer, BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park goes all out for every special occasion, transforming the park into a festive hub throughout the year.

At Christmas, the park becomes a sunkissed tropical wonderland. Guests can stroll beneath twinkling lights, join in Christmas crafts and ornament-making, and decorate their cabin or campsite to spread the cheer. Santa himself drops by for photos and festive wishes, while outdoor movies and balmy summer nights make it a Christmas celebration like no other.

Come Easter, families can hop into a world of pastel-coloured delights with the park’s annual Easter Extravaganza. Kids can take part in egg hunts, meet the Easter Bunny, and join in creative crafts, games, and even a costume parade. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the long weekend and welcome the new season in true family style.

Halloween brings a playful dose of spooky fun as the park transforms into a realm of eerie enchantment, with trick-or-treat trails, spooky decorations, ghoulish arts and crafts, and the always-popular Monster Mash disco. Guests are encouraged to decorate their sites or cabins and join in the frightfully fun spirit of the night.

And when New Year’s Eve rolls around, BIG4 Gold Coast makes sure families ring in the new year with a bang — literally — with food trucks, live entertainment, a DJ disco, and a dazzling fireworks display that lights up the summer sky.

So, is it really possible to combine the best of camping with a great holiday for everyone? At BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park, the answer is a resounding yes.

OPENING JANUARY 2026

Raising Little Lifesavers for a Safer Summer

As the weather warms up and families flock to the beach, programs like Little Lifesavers are helping kids learn essential water safety skills, and have a whole lot of fun along the way.

From backyard pools to weekends at the beach, water is part of the Australian way of life. For many families, summer means sand between the toes, boogie boards under arms, and long days chasing waves. But with that comes an unavoidable truth: our love of the water also brings risk.

Despite decades of awareness campaigns, drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in children. Surf Life Saving Australia’s statistics show that many incidents happen close to home, often in familiar places where families feel most comfortable.

at’s why water safety education is something every parent should take seriously, and why programs like Little Lifesavers are becoming a summer must-do.

REAL SKILLS FOR REAL SITUATIONS

Run by Surf Life Saving Queensland, Little Lifesavers is designed for kids aged 5 to 12 who want to have fun while learning practical lifesaving skills. But this isn’t your typical swim school. It’s a hands-on, sandy, splashy introduction to the world of surf lifesaving — one that blends education with adventure.

Across two or ve days, participants dive into activities that teach them how to stay safe and con dent around the water. ey learn to read beach signs, spot rips, and understand

surf conditions, while also gaining rescue skills like reach-and-throw techniques and recovery positions. ey’ll paddle boards, race through beach games, and even practise CPR awareness, all under the guidance of trained lifesavers who know precisely how to keep learning light-hearted but meaningful.

“Little Lifesavers is all about keeping kids safe, active, and confident in and around the water — while having a lot of fun along the way.”

MORE THAN JUST FUN IN THE SUN

!e idea is simple: make safety second nature. When kids understand how waves move, what ags mean, or how to get help if they’re in trouble, they not only protect themselves, they also learn to look out for others.

!e program’s organisers say that’s the goal: to build con dence and respect for the ocean from an early age.

“Little Lifesavers is all about keeping kids safe, active, and con dent in and around the water, while having a lot of fun along the way,” says Callan Lovitt, Head of Lifeguard Operations from Surf Life Saving Queensland.

!e bene ts ripple well beyond the shoreline. Parents often notice a boost in

independence and teamwork, while kids gain a sense of pride knowing they’re learning skills used by real lifesavers. It’s physical, social, and practical … all rolled into one.

A SUMMER PROGRAM THAT FITS EVERY FAMILY

Little Lifesavers runs as both a two-day and ve-day program, giving families exibility during the busy holiday season. Programs are held at beaches, rivers, and even pools across Queensland, so there’s likely one close to home.

• Five-day program: $180 (new participants) / $160 (returning)

• Two-day program: $165 (new participants) / $150 (returning)

New participants also receive a rash shirt and welcome pack, helping them feel like part of the team from day one. !e program is registered as a Play On! activity, making it easy for families to use recreation vouchers or credits toward the cost.

WHY IT MATTERS

Australia’s coastline is breathtaking, but it demands respect. Every year, surf lifesavers perform thousands of rescues, and the vast majority involve people who didn’t recognise the danger until it was too late.

By giving kids the knowledge and con dence to assess conditions, understand warning signs, and make safe choices, programs like Little Lifesavers are helping to shape a safer generation of beachgoers.

Some graduates even go on to join their local Surf Life Saving Club as nippers or volunteers, turning early lessons into a lifelong connection with the ocean.

A SUMMER THAT STICKS

Parents often look for activities that will keep kids busy and o screens over summer, but it’s rare to nd one that’s genuinely life-changing. Little Lifesavers manages to do both. It’s fun, it’s physical, and it gives kids skills they’ll carry with them for life.

So while your family’s packing towels, sunscreen, and snacks for another day by the water, consider adding something extra to your summer plans — a few days that could make all the di erence.

Because learning to love the beach starts with learning how to stay safe on it.

Future-Focused Tinkers Shine

Middle College students from Pacific Lutheran College are celebrating success at the Future Problem Solving (FPS) National Finals, earning a coveted place among the top problem solvers in Australia.

Paci c Lutheran College students once again demonstrated their capacity for deep thinking, collaboration and creative problem-solving, qualifying for the Future Problem Solving (FPS) National Finals, held at Knox Grammar School, Sydney, in October. Paci c Lutheran College has proudly represented the Sunshine Coast at the FPS National Competition for the past eight years, cementing its reputation as a school of innovative and future-focused thinkers.

To qualify, students worked individually or in teams of four to tackle the complex topic of ‘ e Future of the Agricultural Industry’. eir high-quality booklets earned them places among the top problem solvers in Australia, an achievement re ecting both academic rigour and year-long dedication.

At the National Finals, students explored the emerging eld of nanotechnology — the science of manipulating materials at the atomic and molecular scale. is rapidly evolving eld spans medicine, electronics, energy and environmental applications, prompting students to consider how innovation might reshape future societies. Champion titles were awarded to Evie Schenck (Year 8) in the Middle Scenario Performance Division and Isla Lendrum (Year 11) in the Senior Global Issues Problem Solving Division, with both students earning a place at the International Finals, which will be held in the U.S. next year. e Year 7 Project Paws team placed third in Community Problem Solving and earned an invitation to the International Finals. e Year 8 team achieved their best-ever team score. e Year 6 team made history as the rst Paci c team to represent Queensland at Nationals in the Junior Division. In individual achievements, omas Mulo (Year 8) secured second place in the Mixed Schools Middle Multi-A liate Global Issues Competition (MAGIC) Solving Division.

Beyond competition results, the journey to Sydney o ered students invaluable opportunities for growth. “Travelling to the National Finals and engaging with peers from across Australia expands our students’ worldview and builds con dence in real-world contexts,” Mrs Belchamber said. “ ey come away inspired, knowing their ideas have the power to make a di erence.”

“ e perseverance shown by these students is just as important as the medals and trophies,” Mrs Belchamber added.

“ ey’ve embraced challenges, learned from each experience and continued to strive for excellence, all hallmarks of future-focused learners.”

Kids are naturally drawn to exploring the outdoors. Yet, research shows that outdoor learning does far more than boost curiosity. It transforms the way children think, feel, and connect.

Across the globe, studies have found that time spent outdoors enhances children’s health, wellbeing, creativity, and social skills. It builds resilience, fosters teamwork, and even improves behaviour and attendance.

Australian research has shown that handson contact with nature “can play a signi cant role in cultivating positive mental health and wellbeing.”

Belonging in the Biosphere

The Rainforest Kindy where nature is both classroom and teacher

Educators also bene t from connecting learning with the outdoors. Outdoor teaching invigorates their practice, professional growth, job satisfaction and personal wellbeing.

When well planned, outdoor experiences complement the Australian Curriculum, academic learning through engagement, discovery, and real-world connections.

Learning outdoors nurtures a love of nature that extends far beyond childhood. Play, after all, is the work of children; it’s how they build life skills like creativity, problemsolving and collaboration.

LEARNING THROUGH NATURE

Nestled within the lush Sunshine Coast Grammar School campus, Grammar Early Learning Centre’s Rainforest Kindy is a place where children are guided to explore and discover the natural world through play. Within this unique Biosphere setting, the Rainforest Kindy invites children to connect deeply with Country.

Each day brings new opportunities to explore native ora and fauna — to dig, climb, balance, and create. Mud becomes a sensory wonderland, logs are a test of coordination and courage, and the yarning circle a gathering

place for shared stories and belonging.

Director Steph Ogle says this immersion in nature nurtures more than physical development. “ rough hands-on experiences and meaningful connections to Gubbi Gubbi Country, we nurture curious minds, compassionate hearts, and a love of lifelong learning, preparing children to grow and thrive.”

ese everyday moments are rich with meaning. Children have watched magpie geese nesting nearby and picked wild mandarins growing within the campus — experiences that spark curiosity and respect for the living world around them.

took home second prize. For many, it was their rst experience seeing their work on display. At Grammar Early Learning Centre, these connections form the heart of every learning journey. For babies, it begins in the nurturing environment of the Nursery Wing, where educators provide gentle, individualised care, following each child’s rhythm for feeding, play, and rest. Soft sensory play, song, and movement nurture developing language and coordination.

Back at the Centre, that curiosity continues to bloom in the thriving Bush Tucker Garden, where children plant, water, and care for native plants. Worm farms and composting systems help them see how waste becomes nourishment, while native bees are seen through the gardens, completing the vibrant ecosystem.

SUSTAINABILITY THAT STARTS SMALL

e Cut and Cook Garden bridges home and school life, with families encouraged to pick herbs and edible plants to take home and cook with their children. It’s a simple yet powerful way to extend learning into the kitchen and talk about where food comes from.

Cooking with children also builds ne motor skills, early numeracy skills, and social connections. e Lemon Myrtle Biscuits, a Centre favourite, turn a native ingredient into an edible lesson in science, measurement, and joy (recipe opposite).

CONNECTION, CONFIDENCE AND COMMUNITY

Recently, the nursery children proudly entered their plants into a local community show and

As children grow, exploration and discovery take centre stage. e Kindy Wing provides ample space for active play, creative expression, and independent choices. Educators support curiosity and patience, guiding children through stories, rhymes, and routines that build social skills and emotional resilience.

A PATHWAY THAT GROWS WITH YOUR CHILD

Programs are enhanced by the resources and expertise of Sunshine Coast Grammar School. Each term, children take part in hands-on science classes led by the School’s specialist teachers that ignite curiosity, encourage inquiry, and promote teamwork.

Specialist enrichment programs, including music, sport, language (French and Japanese through the ELLA program), and Christian Education, complement the play-based curriculum. Weekly library visits to the school foster a love of books and storytelling. Children also have the opportunity to attend Under 8’s day and Book Week celebrations at the School.

For parents, Grammar Early Learning Centre o ers the peace of mind that comes from knowing their child is not only cared for, but also inspired — developing a sense of identity, belonging, and purpose from the very beginning.

Creativity Takes Centre Stage at Mountain Creek’s Wearable Art Festival

At Mountain Creek this year, discarded odds and ends became imaginative fashion, and students proved that creativity, when supported and celebrated, can turn the ordinary into something remarkable.

Mountain Creek State School’s annual Wearable Art Festival once again proved why it has become one of the most anticipated events on the school calendar. On Friday, 24 October, the school hall transformed from its everyday role into a vibrant runway, as students from Years 4 to 6 showcased an impressive display of imagination, skill, and sustainable design.

e Wearable Art Extension Program invites students as young as eight to step into the role of designer. e challenge? To construct a complete out t and accessories using only unused, recycled or repurposed materials. Many Year 6 students have become seasoned regulars, returning year after year with

increasingly sophisticated concepts. Applying for the program is only the beginning. roughout the year, students participate in lunchtime skill-building sessions, learning techniques such as weaving, folding, origami, quilling, and rosette-making, that help transform their ideas into wearable works. is year’s runway re ected that brief in the most inventive ways. Plastic bags, pasta, denim, chip packets, fabric scraps, paper, in atables and countless discarded items were thoughtfully reimagined. e results ranged from sculptural showpieces to detailed character-inspired costumes, touching on themes such as enchanted forests, mythical creatures, outer space, underwater worlds and iconic lm moments.

e event also celebrated the broader movement of wearable art. Unlike traditional fashion, wearable art focuses on conceptual design, creative expression and material innovation — a philosophy mirrored in the students’ work. eir pieces were more than garments; they were statements about sustainability, storytelling and design thinking. Wendy Roe, Director of the Australian Wearable Art Festival, attended, accompanied by designers connected to the national competition. Among them was Mountain Creek’s own library sta member, Louise Gerzanics, whose entry to the Australian Wearable Art Festival was displayed on the night, o ering students a real-world example of what their skills could grow into.

Embedded in the program is a strong sustainability message. In researching, students learned that Australians discard an average of 23 kilograms of clothing each year, with more than 300,000 tonnes ending up in land ll. is sparked conversations and inspired many of the upcycled designs seen on the runway. e festival also highlights something central to Mountain Creek’s ethos: that creativity sits alongside literacy, numeracy and science as a vital skill. By encouraging young people to experiment, problem-solve, and view the materials around them in a new light, the Wearable Art Program fosters con dence and nurtures the kind of innovative thinking that will carry students well beyond the classroom.

BRAZILIAN SKILLS SOCCER

Blending

Schools have been around for centuries. Introduced in the 19th century, the concept was a standardised education for all. And it was a concept that suited the new industrial age — rows of desks, rigid timetables, standard curriculum. e goal was to produce reliable workers for predictable jobs. But in a world of AI, automation and endless information, the old model no longer ts.

“ e traditional school system was created in the industrial era,” says Nathan Reynolds, Deputy Principal – Operations at Caloundra City Private School (CCPS). “ at era doesn’t exist anymore. ere’s so much information out there now that if we only prepare students with knowledge rather than skills, they’ll struggle to navigate it. We need to teach them how to question, discern and adapt.”

Recognising this shift, Caloundra City Private School has set out to redesign what senior education can look like. e result is e Agile Graduate Programme — a futurefocused initiative launching in 2026 that places exibility, purpose and self-direction at the heart of learning.

THE AGILE GRADUATE PROGRAMME: FREEDOM TO DESIGN YOUR FUTURE

At its core, the Agile Programme empowers students to take the reins. Rather than being con ned by a one-size- ts-all timetable, students co-design their own schedule based on their chosen pathways — whether that includes traditional subjects, vocational courses, pursuing a university education, or gaining real-world experience.

“So to put it simply, students get to codesign their own timetable,” Mr Reynolds explains. “ ey’re no longer restricted by those old ‘subject lines’ where some choices clash and others don’t. We’ve removed that limitation. e beauty of it is that the students manage it; they’re unshackled from the traditional timetable.” at freedom doesn’t mean they’re left to gure things out alone. Each Agile student is surrounded by a team of ‘champions’ — a network of coaches and advisors providing personalised support and accountability.

A TEAM OF CHAMPIONS: SUPPORT FROM EVERY ANGLE

Each student’s support team includes several key roles:

Subject Matter Experts: Teachers who provide specialist guidance in academic areas. ey’re available for one-on-one sessions beyond regular classes, helping students deepen their understanding or tackle speci c challenges.

The Agile Advantage

REIMAGINING SENIOR LEARNING AT CALOUNDRA CITY PRIVATE SCHOOL

A bold new senior programme is giving students the freedom to design their own learning — and the skills to thrive in a world that refuses to stand still.

Subject Matter Coaches: Educators who help students navigate assessments and curriculum requirements. “ ey know the rules of the game — how schools work, how assessments are designed — and they can coach students through that,” says Mr Reynolds.

Conditioning Coach: Focused on wellbeing and balance, this coach ensures students stay physically active and connected to community sports and social networks. “ ey might check in and say, ‘Let’s go shoot some basketball, how are you looking after yourself?’ It’s that holistic piece — physical and mental conditioning for success,” Nathan says.

Careers Coach: A specialist who connects students with real-world industry experience, linking them with mentors and workplaces aligned to their goals. “It’s like a careers advisor on steroids,” Mr Reynolds jokes. “ ey get students out there, immersed in the industry they’re interested in.”

Academic Advisor: An external professional — often working in the "eld a student aspires to — who provides real-world insight and mentoring. “If a student wants to be a doctor, their advisor might be an actual doctor who can say, ‘Here’s what worked for me, but here’s what I’d do di erently,’” he explains.

Together, this team ensures that students aren’t just “set free,” but are guided, supported, and coached to success.

DESIGNED FOR REAL LIFE

In a world where teenagers often juggle sports, studies, and part-time work, the Agile Programme o ers the exibility to make it all work. It’s particularly bene"cial for elite athletes, creatives or students already involved in external programmes.

“We have kids who travel to Brisbane every week for sport,” says Nathan. “ eir parents ask, ‘How can I support my child through this?’ Now, their child can design their own curriculum, book time with teachers when they’re on site, and still meet every requirement for their QCE or ATAR.” is exible model means no opportunity needs to be sacri "ced for school. Instead, school adapts to "t the student.

NOT FOR EVERYONE, BUT POWERFUL FOR THE RIGHT LEARNERS

While the Agile Programme o ers enormous potential, CCPS recognises it won’t suit every student. “Some kids are ready for that independence, others like the comfort of structure,” Mr Reynolds says. “We run both models side by side; we’re just trying to personalise learning for everyone as best we can, without creating chaos.”

To ensure students are ready, CCPS uses a thoughtful selection process. A 360-degree feedback system gathers input from parents, teachers, peers and even sporting coaches, evaluating each student’s self-management and readiness for independent learning.

“It’s not about academic ability, it’s about coachability,” says Nathan. “If a student is open to feedback and willing to grow, they’ll thrive in this environment.”

WHY AGILITY MATTERS

Developed from global research and spearheaded by board member Dr Jamie Dorrington, the Agile Graduate Programme is CCPS’s answer to the future of education — one that values agility as much as achievement.

“Success today requires more than good marks,” Nathan says. “It requires adaptability, con "dence and the ability to think for yourself. at’s what we’re building here.”

Students still graduate with a QCE or ATAR, but they also leave with something far more valuable: the ability to chart their own path.

“By removing the barriers, we actually allow more time for students to focus on their strengths, their gaps, and what matters to them,” Mr Reynolds explains. “When you give young people autonomy, engagement naturally increases. ey do more because it’s theirs.”

A SCHOOL THAT’S BUILT TO MOVE

e Agile Graduate Programme will commence in 2026 with Year 11 students, expanding to include Year 12 students in 2027. For CCPS, it’s a bold but natural step. e school’s smaller size allows it to implement changes quickly and tailor learning with genuine care.

“We’re fortunate we’ve got a supportive board and a community that values innovation. Because we’re not a huge school, we can move quickly and make this personalisation of learning real, not just a buzzword," says Nathan. “I’ve been in education for three decades, and I’ve always been on the fringe trying to push for this kind of change. To "nally be doing it, for real, is pretty special.”

THE FUTURE, MADE PERSONAL

e Agile Graduate Programme isn’t just a new timetable, it’s a new mindset. It’s about trusting young people with responsibility, surrounding them with support, and preparing them not just for exams, but for life.

In a digital world that demands exibility, Caloundra City Private School is equipping students with the tools, and the con "dence, to move with it. Because the future doesn’t belong to those who follow the rules. It belongs to those who know how to move.

“It’s your future to make.”

STEM education has shifted from a supplementary topic to a core part of any classroom experience. And at schools such as Sunshine Beach State School, it’s tangible, vibrant and integrated in daily learning. From design thinking to real-world projects in their thriving permaculture garden, students at this Noosa school aren’t just hearing about future pathways; they’re building and discovering them rsthand.

And now, a new robotics program is adding yet another exciting layer to the school’s already rich STEM o"ering. One that’s tapping into student passion, drawing

With parent-powered robotics and a thriving STEM culture, Sunshine Beach State Schoo l is nurturing the next generation of curious, future-ready thinkers.

on extraordinary community expertise, and opening up fresh opportunities for curious young thinkers.

e program was born from collaboration with families, following consultation with the school community about future priorities. “A big thing from our community was STEM,” Principal Elise Maguire explains. “We were already strong in science, technology and maths through the Australian Curriculum, but robotics sits slightly outside that — it’s not a given in primary schools. So we partnered with our P&C to bring something special to life.”

Within the school community were three highly skilled parents who were happy to volunteer their time to start the Sunshine Beach Robotics Club. Jason Pelecanos was a speech researcher and engineer for Google, Marilyn Pelecanos was a program director for IBM, and Lawrence Reid was a software engineer and CIO for a Swiss telecommunications rm.

" ey’re incredibly knowledgeable and so passionate, and they’re generously volunteering their time to make this happen. We feel fortunate, said Elise.”

THE NEXT GENERATION OF THINKERS STARTS HERE

Sunshine Beach’s robotics program is currently o ered to high-performing Year 5 students. !e goal is to extend the program into Year 6 and build a peer-leadership model in which experienced students mentor the next group coming through.

!e club started as a single lunchtime session and quickly doubled to two due to overwhelming enthusiasm. “We haven’t had any issues with engagement,” Elise says. “ !e only problem is convincing them to pack up when lunchtime ends!”

Students work with LEGO Spike Prime robotics kits, building robots from scratch and coding them to complete complex tasks. !ey’re already tackling advanced challenge boards, solving problems like using sensors to collect ‘treasures’ and transport them to speci "c locations. And in just seven weeks, they’re ready to showcase their work.

“It’s not just about the robotics itself,” says Clair Allan, Head of Department - Curriculum at Sunshine Beach State School. “It's critical skills they're developing: teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, collaboration. All genders are participating, which we love, because getting girls engaged in STEM is so important given their limited representation historically."

Looking ahead, the school intends to enter students into competitive leagues such as First LEGO League and RoboCup Junior. “ !e sky’s the limit,” Elise says. “We’re very excited to see where the program can go.”

A WHOLE-SCHOOL APPROACH TO EXCELLENCE

While robotics sits within the school’s suite of academic excellence programs, Elise is quick to emphasise that every child at Sunshine Beach is supported and challenged.

“It’s really important parents know that all students are catered for in their classroom every day,” she explains. “Our extension programs don’t replace that; they sit on top to further stretch learners who need di erent kinds of challenge.”

!e school’s gifted and talented program runs from Year 1 to 6 and focuses on English and maths, higher-order thinking skills, and the development of students’ ability to articulate their ideas, collaborate, and solve complex problems. Rather than pushing children up through more advanced curriculum content, teachers extend them horizontally — building general capabilities and critical thinking skills aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

“It’s not just extra work,” Clair clari "es. “It’s teaching students how to think in di erent ways. And importantly, it gives them

opportunities to connect with like-minded peers. With four or "ve classes in a year level, you don’t always " nd your ‘people’ in your own room. Robotics, extension programs, instrumental music, all of these give students a sense of belonging.”

! at sense of connection continues into the transition to high school, with Sunshine Beach State School forging strong ties with the well-respected high school. Italian, instrumental music, and academic partnerships via the CREST program give students a smoother pathway into subjects they may pursue for years to come.

A LIVING, GROWING LEARNING SPACE

While robotics might be the newest focus on contemporary education, STEM at Sunshine Beach isn’t limited to screens, sensors and coding. One of the school’s most-loved features is its permaculture garden — a hands-on outdoor learning space used by every year level.

Students work with educators in a natural environment on projects that are woven directly into the curriculum.

“ !ey’re not creating projects in isolation,” Elise explains. “ !ey’re in the garden, using real materials, problem-solving in real time, working together. Again, it’s about the skills — creativity, curiosity, critical thinking.”

!e garden also reinforces the school’s broader philosophy: building lifelong learners who are engaged with the world around them.

“Our kids are clever,” Elise says. “ !e content doesn’t tend to be the challenge. Our mission is to develop curious, creative thinkers who are ready for the future.”

A COLLABORATION CREATING FUTURE-READY KIDS

What stands out most is how deeply collaboration and community are at the heart of future skills at Sunshine Beach.

We’re building 21st-century thinkers — future team players who will go out into society with con "dence, capability and curiosity.”

And if the current robotics students are anything to go by, children happily forfeiting lunchtime playtime for coding challenges and robot battles, that future is looking bright.

“At the end of the day,” Elise says, “we’re setting kids up for success. ! at’s what matters most.”

A letter from your pelvic floor

Hello, lovely.

It’s me — your pelvic oor.

You probably don’t think about me much, and that’s okay. I quietly hold everything together — your bladder, uterus, and bowel — while helping you breathe, move, and stay upright. I’m not the showy six-pack type, but the deep, intelligent core that keeps you balanced and strong.

WHEN WE FIRST MET

In your younger years, I was springy and full of energy. I worked in perfect rhythm with your breath. When you laughed, I lifted. When you ran, I stabilised. You never had to think about me, I simply did my job, e ortlessly and joyfully.

WHEN YOU BECAME A HOME

en came pregnancy. e hormones that softened your ligaments also softened me. I stretched and adapted to hold your growing baby, bearing the pressure of every step and sneeze. For nine months, I worked nonstop. And when it was time to give birth, I opened … wider than you could ever imagine. Whether you birthed vaginally or by caesarean, I carried the weight of pregnancy and helped bring life safely into the world.

AFTER THE BIRTH

Afterwards, I was tired and fragile. I didn’t need “snapping back”. I needed breath, patience, and gentle movement. When you ignored me, I tightened in fear. When you moved with awareness, I softened and healed. True recovery is a conversation, not a command.

HOW I THRIVE

I love mindful movement , especially Pilates done with breath and control. Every time you exhale and gently draw me up, I come alive. Every time you inhale and let me release, I recover. When you stand tall, I lift with ease. When you slump or hold your breath, I struggle. We’re deeply connected, you and I. I mirror how you live and move.

I don’t need constant squeezing; I need balance: lift, release, love.

WHEN I’M STRUGGLING

If you leak when you laugh, or feel pain, please notice. I’m not weak, I’m calling for help. A women’s health physiotherapist can listen to me and teach you how to care for me properly.

AS YOU GROW OLDER

Now, as oestrogen fades, I feel a little thinner, a

little drier, but I’m still here for you. Movement, hydration, breath, and awareness keep me strong. Pilates, walking, laughing, all help me thrive. is isn’t decline; it’s evolution.

HOW

TO CARE FOR ME

• Breathe deeply. Inhale to soften, exhale to lift.

• Move often. Sitting too long makes me sleepy.

• Exhale to lift. Before lifting anything heavy, breathe out rst.

• Stay curious. Check in with a women’s health physio.

• Be kind. Strength comes from awareness, not force.

A PROMISE

I’ve supported you through every chapter: birth, heartbreak, joy, and laughter. I’ve held you steady when you pushed too hard and softened when you nally exhaled.

All I ask is this: don’t forget me now. You don’t need to control me, just connect with me.

Together, we’ll keep you standing tall, breathing deeply, and moving freely for decades to come.

With strength and quiet love, Your Pelvic Floor
