2012 Morgan Horse Grand National & World Championship Once again, Morgan horses, riders and fans will rendezvous in Oklahoma City for the annual Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show. You can check out the action from October 6-13. by Nancy Norton, Executive Editor

f you love Morgans, you’ll want to get to the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in October. Once you get there you’ll have lots of company: over 5,000 other Morgan admirers will be there with you, along with more than 1,000 horses, and they will be coming from 45 states and four nations to compete. This show is a big deal. The horse show takes place in three separate arenas, allowing the versatility of Morgans to be fully revealed. The competition begins Saturday, October 6, and there are three sessions each day through Sunday, October 13. Titles will be award-

ed to Grand National and World Champions. The classes are saddle seat, hunt seat, and western and driving divisions, as well as hunter over fences and jumpers, dressage, western dressage, carriage driving and reining.

one of the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) state and regional Youth of the Year contests. They come to Oklahoma City to compete for the AMHA National Youth of the Year at the Grand National & World Championship

There is also a National Youth of the Year winner. Competitors for this title must be youth 14 and older. They must also have previously received high scores on a written test, a ridden pattern, a judged contest and an oral presentation from

Morgan Horse Show. The winner of this prestigious title will receive a customized prize package that may include the chance to go to national conventions or participate in an internship, as well as a scholarship or custom riding apparel.

This show is a very big deal.

When the last class on the last day is over, the vendors will pack up and leave. The spectators will all go home. The owners will load horses into trailers and hit the road until next year. And by the end of that last class on that last day, over $300,000 in prize money and awards will have been presented to those owners and exhibitors of the competing horses.
