The World’s Championship Horse Show

For over 100 years, people have flocked to the Kentucky State Fair, home of the World’s Championship Horse Show. It is widely believed to be the richest and most prestigious Saddlebred show in the world. by Nancy Norton, Executive Editor
he World’s Championship is one of three horse shows that make up the Saddlebred “Triple Crown.” The other two are the Lexington Junior League in Lexington, Kentucky and the American Royal in Kansas City, Missouri. The World’s Championship began in 1902 and has been going ever since, with only two breaks. The first one came in 1904 when no state fair was held. The second break came in 1945, when the fair was cancelled after atom bombs were dropped during
World War II, leading to the surrender of Japan and the end of the war. Any horse and rider
with a second place finish are known as reserve world champions.
