Created out of shipping containers, Earth and Sky is a combined small business and residence showcasing the beauty of traditional Navajo textiles and culture. With the use of sustainable and natural materials combined with the owner’s way of life, the home business becomes more sustainable, thus lowering the impact on the environment. Additionally, the theory of Prospect and Refuge design allows the public to access the shop as needed while still giving the owners a private living space for their everyday lives. Due to its proximity to public transportation routes, restaurants, and convenience stores, Earth and Sky will find its home near the downtown square of a city in the northern region of Texas. This area is a mini arts district with plenty of local shops and restaurants owned by people with various backgrounds and beliefs. This site is within a half-mile of bus stops, restaurants, a pharmacy, and a gas station. It is also a 20-minute bus ride to the nearest shopping plaza with groceries, pets, clothing, and miscellaneous goods stores. The nearest hospital and emergency room is a 4-minute drive or 15-minute bus ride away in case of a medical emergency.
