ABOUT INTENSIVES

Why do we have Intensives? Intensives are a way for you to go really deeply into a subject or area that interests you. This is an opportunity for you to experience learning in a new and different way. Each intensive will focus on real-world experiences where you can see how and where these skills are applicable to careers you can pursue when you are older. Every intensive will practice skills aligned to all our courses, so this is not a "break" from work - it is just work that looks different!

Why are Intensives unique? It is an opportunity to examine a topic in depth and through different experiences while interacting with students and teachers you may not usually work with. At the end of Intensives, you will have an opportunity to publish, present, or show your project to a larger audience. Intensives are exciting; they are a chance to try something you may have never experienced or to go deeper into something you love.

When will Intensives happen? Intensives begin at the end of the day on Friday, December 13th, 2024 and continue from December 16th20th, 2024.

Where will my Intensive be? You will not go to your regular classes. Instead, you will have just one class with the same teachers every day. We will do our best to give you one of your choices, but there is no switching Intensives once you get your class.

Who will be in my Intensive? You will be in a mixed grade classroom.

How will I be graded? You will be graded on your professionalism and final project.

GRADING POLICY

Intensives will count as a project grade for Marking Period 1 of Trimester 2 IN ALL OF YOUR CLASSES under professionalism. Uniform, attendance, behavior, participation, and completion of the final project will be factored into your final grade.

Daily Grades: Each day you will get a graded on your professionalism based off of a 4 point learning scale.

Final Project: Final Projects differ from Intensive to Intensive, but your final final project grade will based off a four point scale based on the Career Development and Occupational Studies standards.

FIELD TRIP POLICY

INTENSIVES TRIPS ARE MANDATORY. You are expected to attend all field trips. Since field trips are between 40-60% of Intensive curriculi, missing a field trip for any reason will have an impact on your intensive grade and may affect credit hours. You should make an effort to be on time and present during these enrichment activities.

If you arrive after your trip has left, you will be required to do make-up work left by your teachers to supplement the part of your intensives grade you missed on the trip. Students left behind MUST adhere to discipline code and school rules and norms or face disciplinary action. If you are left behind, your family will be contacted by school personnel to inform them that your grade in normal classes is in jeopardy as per the Intensives Grading Policy.
