If you are curious about the great out doors then join the Urban Naturalist Intensive and discover the concrete jungle’s greener side! You will have the opportunity to adventure through some of NYC’s most spectacular parks and learn about the city’s unique flora and fauna. You will also develop your inner artist through nature-in spired creative writing and drawing exercises, as well as explore one of NYC’s most famous and awe inspiring museums! We will visit professional dance studios to learn moves to add to your dance reportoire. If you’re an expert, there’s always the ability to become a group choreographer. Face-offs and slapshots is an intensive all about the sport of hockey, on the ice and in the streets! In this intensive Dr. O’Grady and Mx. Rylie will teach you all about the sport of hockey: behind the scenes, the basic skills, and rules of the game. We will be playing hockey so prepare for some physical activity, but we will also explore the relationship hockey has with the great city of New York. We will learn about the NHL, local teams, and debate the GOATs. Get your mouth guards and join us! No prior experience required!!

This intensive is for all students interested in make-up! Students will learn tips and tricks on how to master a full coverage make-up look on different skin types and tones; and how to master a colorful and neutral make-up look. Once students master the makeup application, then they will learn how to market themselves by using a social media platform, such as instagram. Students will develop and record a step-by-step tutorial, and/or create a mini portfolio of 2 looks in which they can use as content for their social media platform. Lastly, students will share their final product as a class and learn how to support small businesses.

They learn critical industry terminology and lingo, focus ing on the way that women such as Patty Jenkins, Domee Shi, Shonda Rhimes, among others, have shaped the industry itself.

Animals are an important part of every ecosystem. From cities to the tropical rainforest, animals shape the environments around them and help create diverse communities of life. Human activities have threatened many animal species around the world. Polar bears that once thrived in the arctic are now at risk of losing the sea ice they live on; elephants and rhinos are hunted for their ivory tusks. In this intensive you will choose an endangered animal and research ways humans can protect that species.

Winter in NYC

They spirit of intensives is FUN! Join us on a magical tour of NYC during the winter. We will go ice skating in the shadow of the Rockefeller tree. Learn about how different cultures celebrate their winter holidays/holy days by visiting the Schomberg Center to learn about Kwanzaa and see The Nativity at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Lastly we will make gingerbread houses and decorations (ornaments for your tree, menorahs and dreidels, and Kwanzaa candelabras) to adorn your home for whatever holiday/holy day that you and your family celebrate!
Calling all creatives! Intrested in using your hands to create works of art? This intensive would center around sculpting while also exploring NYC and thinking about how landmarks are determined and made. Students will learn about the different ways sculptures can be created and what materials they can be made from. Students will use a variety of materials ranging from clay to paper mache, cardboard to legos, and more! Students will also be thinking about how they want to creatively represent themselves - who they are, where they come from, and what they want viewers to know about them - through a visual format. If you’re interested in making art with your hands and showing a little piece of who you are, this intensive is for you! LET’S SCULPT!

Calling all writers, artists, and aspiring designers! In this intensive, stu dents combine writing and visual arts to produce a page of the school literary magazine. During this project, students will demonstrate their understanding of the elements of art (line, shape, form, space, value, color, and texture) and principles of design (balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, pattern, unity). Students will apply this understanding to reflect on their personal convictions and ultimately collaborate with each other to create a cohesive piece of visual art.

What makes a good movie? In this intensive you will get the chance to explore the elements of what goes into movie making. You not only get to watch movies, but debate on what makes some movies better than others. Learn about different techniques, styles and genres. By the end of the week, you will become a movie critic. Our trips will go behind the scenes and help you appreciate what it takes to be an award winning filmmaker. Our final project will involve a critical review of two movies on a digital platform and possible publication!!!
