NOAH ANDREW Hi, my name is Noah Andrew, I’m a 19year-old photographer from the Isle of Arran. I never really took interest in Photography until I was in 6th year at secondary school.

From a young age, I always was interested in veterinary work. I got inspired to do photography further when I got my result from my exam in school, I really enjoyed doing the work in school and decided it was what I wanted to take up as a career.

My favourite genre of photography is still life but also love taking landscapes.

Sunset Mountains

'Sunset Mountains' was captured at the top of the string road on the Isle of Arran. We stopped on the road and parked in a lay-by and set up my tripod. The sunset was setting fast, so I had to be very quick. I like my final image because of the silhouette hills in the foreground which draws your eyes more to the orange sunset which is one of my selected colours.

NOAH ANDREW Party with the Pink Ladies 'Party with the Pink Ladies' is a still life image of 4 shot bottles with water in them with a pink background to emphasise the colour pink which was my secondary colour. I chose this final image because the lighting was at the right angle to capture all the shot bottles with minimal glare on the right-hand side. The pink colour bursts out well.

LAUREN CHRISTIE Full time worker and student who loves taking photographs in studio space- I am most happy with shoots that are bright and colourful or anything I can get creative. I like to make backdrops and play with different lighting techniques.

LAUREN CHRISTIE For this shot I decided to do light painting around this kraken bottle. I've always liked the way the bottle looks, and it is just about the only alcoholic drink I've have. I love that this is a dark image but still has a big colour pop.

You can't have kraken without cola! This was inspired by my other exhibition shot "kraken". Using zoom blast reminded me of how you would see things after drinking a full bottle as well as what's usually paired with the drink.

Retired earlier in life and now returning to further education to enjoy learning different skills and hopefully turn a hobby into a new career.

JACQUI CONN Meditation Green has been used in care settings to create a calming environment. The practice of meditation is also known to quiet the mind, so I have combined these two concepts to create a green Buddha using a star filter to accentuate the lighted candle often used in meditational practice.

Stargazer Lilies are often cited as the saddest flowers on the planet.

These vibrant blue oriental Stargazers however really turn that reputation on its head.

Stars in their own right.

COURTNEY DOYLE Hi! My name is Courtney and I’ve been doing photography for about 2/3 years now.

It started out as a hobby and I then studied higher photography in 6th year at school.

I now study it at college, and I love it. I think still life might be my favourite kind of photography to do but I’ve not quite decided yet.

Pink and Playful

I came up with the idea for this image while doing a hobby that’s been keeping me entertained during lockdown – colouring in. I noticed I had multiple shades of the colour pink, so I lined them up against some pink paper, to add yet more pink to the images, set up a light and got shooting. I really like shadows and depth of field within this image.

I took this image will out for a picnic with a friend.

I wasn’t really looking for images, but I had my camera with me just in case. The love the vibrant yellow and also that you can see other daffodils in the background.

ROBIN GILCHRIST My favourite type of photography is still life/product.

Whenever I am taking photos in general, I am very critical of myself and almost a perfectionist making sure everything is sitting in the right position and the light is catching perfectly and doing still life/product photography allows me to spend as much time I want getting the right angles and positions. My interest in photography sparked a few years ago, I used to go out hiking a lot and I would always be out taking photos of the breath-taking views and posting them to social media. Many people always complimented my photos and said I should think about possibly start doing it more. From there on it snowballed and I began to take photos of anything I thought looked pleasing and visually interesting.

I also love doing urban work and capturing images of unique architecture. There’s no specific reason other than I just find it can be very abstract and interesting to look at! When I studied photography at school, I was very set on doing urban work as I found it enjoyable to go out on the streets and capture images that I thought looked interesting and different as all cities and towns are not the same and different architecturally, whereas now after studying in college this year and experimenting with different types of photography I’ve really enjoyed working with still life and products, I love how they turn out and how professional they look!

Purple Bloom

ROBIN GILCHRIST This image was taken when I was out a walk with a friend, I wasn’t looking for a specific image I was just photographing things out of practise and if anything caught my eye, the camera was out. A few purple flowers were growing on a patch of grass near our path, and I thought they were very pretty and vibrant, which fit perfectly for my purple theme. I love the striking contrast the most in this image, between the purple, splash of yellow and the green grass, it feels like summer in a photo from the colours to the flower itself and the bright lighting.

ROBIN GILCHRIST This image was taken as part of my portfolio for cosmetic still life, the colour of the lipstick is originally red, but as I didn’t have many orange ideas or objects, I decided to post-process the image and filter it slightly with an orange, which I now really like as I think it complements the light hitting the gold on the lipstick very well, I also think it gives off a vintage makeup advertiseme nt almost because of the orange that was added.

CHRIS GOURLAY Hi! I’m Chris, and I’m primarily an aspiring landscape photographer!

I prefer to focus on astrophotography and/or eerie landscapes, with occasional black and white still life. I decided to pursue photography in education after working on an outdoor environment for 2 years.

For my first image, Vast, I took a trip out of town towards the beach on a clear night, and tried my hand shooting the sky, with the rocks as foreground. I post processed in photoshop to adjust the white balance, giving the sky a nice hint of blue.

The second image, Augmented, was my way of testing the boundaries of art. This was intentionally a slightly unfocused image of my keyboard, using a technique called zoom burst. I wanted to bring out the purple lights, and make the keys appear more as “shapes.” I aimed for the viewer to ask questions to themselves such as “what” and why?”

AIDEN JOHN JENNINGS Hi, I’m Aidan, I’m 24 years old. I had taken NC Photography to get back into an old hobby of mine to test my creative mind.

After studying film for a few years, I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could bring emotion and tell a story through an image like I successfully did when filming videos.

For this image, I decided to snap a shot of my sleeping cat Ragnar who I illuminated in a red light to add colour. I like how this came out as the shadows created a nice contrast throughout the image.

AIDEN JOHN JENNINGS Colourful Threats For my second image, I used a Batman and Joker prop which I illuminated with a vibrant green and red light which was effective at highlighting and foreshadowing the internal struggle of the characters.

During the global pandemic and various lockdowns, I found time to reflect on life. I’ve always loved photography and it makes me happy and life is too short, so decided now to take the steps to learn more about photography.

KIRSTY LATIMER Green Leaf This image is to represent my love of nature and the great outdoors. The ye llow veins running through the leaf contrast against the darker green to show growth and life.

Juicy Orange In this image I like the contrast of the bright color orange pop against the black background. I have shown depth of field by focusing on the first slice and show how juicy it looks.

Black Cat This is a photo of my cat Percy; I used an orange backdrop. And for lighting I used a ring light.

The cat is wearing an orange bandana because I thought it added more to the orange theme.

What’s your favourite scary movie?

RONAN LEASK For this shot I tried to recreate a scene from one of my favorite horror movies “Scream,” I used a red backdrop, and a ring light then to add to the photo I splashed some fake blood onto the mask.

I am a mature student who enjoys photography, and during the 2020 lockdown, I decided I wanted to learn more about the subject, which led me to apply to Ayrshire College. As a result, new approaches have been learned. I have always been drawn to abstract art, but ICM (intentional camera movement) and light painting were new to me, and I have integrated them into my work.

The green image ‘Coming Through Covid' was made using a layered image that included a studio shot of a fellow student, an ICM image of trees, and an image of oil on water to mimic bacteria.

Flowers of Love

My first image, ‘Flower of Love,' was created with the intention of making the pink roses the only colour. The reason I done this was because the black and white tones make the pink stand out more.

COURTNEY LINDORES Self-Care My purple image, ‘Self-Care’ symbolises relaxation and aromatherapy. Lavender is often used as a natural remedy for numerous ailments. To create the illusion of a relaxed evening, I created an atmospheric image using lighting techniques.

Hello, my name is Tricia, and I am a single mother of two. I first got into photography through completing my media course. My favourite genre of photography that I enjoy looking at and explore is Abstract as well as cinematography.

This image came to my mind when I sat at my computer desk and saw the broken compass in front of me.

I chose this mage to represent how the modern world can easily lose its way but always has an unknown and exciting future.

The equipment that I used for my image was a NikonD3000 and Abode Photoshop/Lightroom .

The technique I used was to lower the IS setting to100.

PATRICIA MCMAHON A Purple Winter This image ‘A Purple Winter’ is more on a personal level as this is my wedding dress from my second marriage in Iceland. I chose to take this image as I thought it would effectively go with the purple theme. The equipment that I used for my image was a NikonD3000 & Photoshop/Lightroom.

The technique I used was too lower the IS setting to100for one of the images.

I also used a standard ISO setting of 800.

STUART MILLIGAN

My name is Stuart Milligan, and I am a student at Ayrshire College. I have always loved doing photography and have done it for many years. When I first started, I realised I always had an interest in photography, and I loved all of the different genres (portrait, Landscape etc). I have always loved trying new things.

STUART MILLIGAN Loneliness

For my first image I made sure I got a nice composition of symmetry while capturing the bright, rich green colour. This together gave a big dramatic feel of loneliness and isolation.

Nature For my second photograph I made sure to bring out the colours a lot more by increasing the saturation to make sure it gave a nice yellow setting. I made sure that my settings were right on my camera to really capture the colours and lighting perfectly as well as finding a good composition.

Hi, I’m Rebecca. I’m currently a photography student with a background in fashion and art. As a creative person, I enjoy bringing out the artistic side of photography and incorporating that into my work whether it’s taken on film or digitally.

REBECCA PRINCE Bloom For my pink image, I wanted to take a selfportrait. I shot this in my garden with a light pink backdrop pinned to the fence and a tripod. I like the use of the pink Carnations and the positioning of them on my face, I think it adds a nice touch of detail within the image without overdoing it.

REBECCA PRINCE Erythronium Pagoda For my yellow image, I photographed a Erythronium Pagoda otherwise known as a ‘Fawn Lily’ in my grandparents’ garden. I liked this image as the yellow stands out perfectly, contrasting the green background with a shallow depth of field. I also like how both my images link through flowers.

ZOË ROSS Hi, I’m Zoë. I am a 19-year-old student photographer. I have always had a love of being creative through Photography and Art since a young age. I completed Higher Photography at school where I got to really explore and build my knowledge with a DSLR camera which I carried on to NC Photography at Ayrshire College.

ZOË ROSS Bleeding Rose To create this ‘Red’ image, I set a mirror on the ground to create a reflection with a bright red rose on top. I added in a red ribbon that I let hang loosely in between my dipped red fingertips. When post processing I increased the saturation to really make the red pop.

ZOË ROSS Ocean Eyes

For my ‘Blue’ image, I decided to take a picture of my blue eye which I brushed with blue eyeshadow all the way up to my eyebrow. I thought this would create a more interesting eyecatching image with a sort of futuristic look. In post processing I again enhanced the blue by increasing the saturation.

REBECCA-ANN WALKER

My name is Rebecca-Anne, joining college last year was definitely a leap of faith for me. I’ve taken my passion for photography and stripped it back to bare bones to be able to relearn the art of capturing images and the theory behind it. The colours given to myself were Green and Yellow and I have used the skills learnt this year to achieve them.

REBECCA-ANN WALKER Tequila This full of colour and vibrant portrait was taken with the terror vision lyrics “she makes me happy” playing in my mind. Given this I wanted to grab as much green as I could and throw it at this image to produce something that would make you happy.

REBECCA-ANN WALKER Morning Glow The feeling of the sunshine slowly emerging from the night and giving way to a new day. A simple portrait taken with minimal studio lighting, to replicate the simple way in which the day light appears each day again.
