This year, Kenyatta National Hospital Board Member Dr. Stanley Kamau Maina, EBS chose to celebrate his 53rd birthday in a rather different way.

He spent the day at KNH Pediatric Oncology ward 1E where he shared gifts from himself, his friends, and his family with patients in the ward.

During the long stays, their utilities run out and at times their family members are unable to visit. In such cases, the children rely on the ward staff to provide for them.

“Thanks to well-wishers and donors, we have been able to assist our children with these basics,” said Beatrice Amadi while receiving the donations. She also thanked the management for the prompt provision of medication to the patients.

Dr. Kamau also paid NHIF funds for six of the admitted children.

“Some of them come from needy backgrounds and are unable to shoulder the costs of treatment because they do not have NHIF medical cover. With this, they can receive treatment without worrying too much about huge medical bills,” he said.

The celebration was attended by Dr. Irene Inwani, Senior Director Clinical Services, Dr. Lydia OkutoyiDirector HealthCare Quality, among other directors, doctors, nurses, and staff from the ward.

“Some of them come from needy backgrounds and are unable to shoulder the costs of treatment because they do not have NHIF medical cover. With this, they can receive treatment without worrying too much about huge medical bills ” said Dr. Kamau.
