Dear Members,
As we head into June, we welcome the warmer weather, improved course conditions, and the excitement of both daily play and upcoming events. This month also brings one of golf’s most anticipated challenges the U.S. Open, hosted at the storied Oakmont Country Club. And of course, we celebrate all the amazing dads out there on Father’s Day.
With the early-season events now behind us, we look ahead to some of our marquee traditions, including the Member-Member and Men’s MemberGuest Events. As we continue making improvements to the clubhouse and landscaping throughout the property, it’s clear that McHenry Golf Club is shining brighter each day.
Be sure to stop by the Pro Shop to see what Anna and her team have been working on. Fresh merchandise will be arriving throughout the month, and you’ll find rotating specials and featured items available regularly. If there’s something specific you ’ re looking for that we don’t currently carry, we’ll be happy to source and special order it for you.
Lastly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made my transition to McHenry Golf Club so smooth and welcoming. The support and kindness from both members and staff have meant a great deal to me.

Evans Scholar Day - June 20th 12:00 PM Shotgun
This is the 29th Annual McHenry GC Evans Scholar Day. This event supports the Evans Scholar Foundation which provides a full tuition and housing scholarship for high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. Here at McHenry, we are proud to have 27* Evans Scholar Alumni!
Format: 2-Person Scramble

Format: Front 9 - Scramble
Back 9 - Better Ball
Hole Locations, Size, and Quantity will vary throughout the golf course.
Teams may be comprised of Men, Women or Mixed. Players may sign up as a pair or individually. The Golf Shop will assist in pairing up golfers that register as individuals.

Men’s Member Guest - July 10 - 12 th th AM Shotgun Event
McHenry Golf Club’s annual premier golf event! The tournament consists of a practice round and par 3 contest on Thursday, followed by 45 holes of match-play competition on Friday and Saturday. The top finishers in each flight will play in a horserace on Saturday afternoon to determine the overall champion.
Due to popular demand, we will contintue to have 7 flights (84 players). Please include in the event registration if you plan on bringing friends/family to the after party.
An information packet, including details on the format and an itinerary for the event, will be sent to all players and their guests prior to the event.

Pro Shop Update
Dear Members,
The Pro Shop has received a bit of a facelift! We’ve relocated the main desk once again and installed brand-new fixtures throughout the space. As the season progresses and inventory continues to arrive, we ’ re confident the shop will match the beauty and attention to detail found throughout McHenry Golf Club.

Our current inventory includes top brands such as Adidas, Donald Ross, Swannie’s, Sunice, and Dunning. Several new and exciting collections are on the way, so be on the lookout for fresh arrivals throughout the summer. You can expect to see Branded Bills, G/Fore, Tail, and a few other brands making their debut at McHenry. We're especially excited to see members wearing our new black and gold logo out on the course this season, as we continue to expand our logoed merchandise offerings.

From June 1 through December 31, 2025, golfers who make a hole-in-one at McHenry Golf Club—or any participating KemperSports course—are eligible to win a golf getaway to the award-winning Streamsong Resort in Florida.
The prize includes:
One-night stay
One round of golf at any of Streamsong’s award-winning courses (including cart when available)
To be eligible:
You must register before your round
Your hole-in-one must occur at a participating KemperSports course between June 1 and December 31, 2025

Course & Grounds Update
The warm weather looks like it is finally here to stay and it’s starting to feel like the golf season should! The course has really popped over the past two weeks along with alleviating some of the blemishes we saw this spring. Portions of the John Deere equipment package have begun to arrive, including three new fairway units and a new rough unit. If you are on the course, you may see the smaller rough mower which will primarily mow the areas surrounding greens and tees. Over time being mowed with a proper mower, we should see the rough around greens start to tighten up at a consistent 2 inches We have held off on verticutting greens, as suggested by KemperSports National Agronomist Dave Groelle, and waited for some growth and better weather Planning around the club’s events, we will start verticutting greens to inhibit upward growth along with a tight, firm playing surface.
Some of the changes that I made to the chemical and fertilizer program are really starting to show their value early in the season. Fairways have been getting a wetting agent application every two weeks. This helps draw the moisture down into the soil as well as hold the moisture in the root zone. As the summer progresses this is going to help keep fairways green and healthy, mitigating some of the localized dry spots that I saw on fairways last fall. The second big change is a fungicide called Signature Stressguard that is being applied to greens, approaches and tees. It serves two purposes, defense against fungal pathogens and alleviating stress from heat, compaction and dry conditions. The most notable areas where we should see this make a difference are on greens like 14 that have the same localized dry spots year over year. Implementing this product over time will let me push greens to be dry, firm and fast without causing long term damage.
