RULES AND GENERAL INFORMATION A P P R O VA L A N D P O I N T S The Wild West Classic is an event combining two separate Regional Championship shows. The PHCBC Regional Championship Show is sponsored by the Peruvian Horse Club of BC and the Wild Rose Regional Championship Show is sponsored by the Peruvian Horse Club of Alberta. Each show is approved by the Peruvian Horse Association of Canada and will receive DOUBLE POINTS towards PHAC awards. M E M B E R S H I P A N D R E G I S T R AT I O N R E Q U I R E M E N T S Non-Members of the PHAC are eligible to participate in this event and will not be charged any additional fees. Horses registered or pending with the Peruvian Horse Association of Canada are eligible to be shown. Horses owned by residents of Canada MUST be registered or pending with the PHAC. Horses owned by residents of other countries are eligible to be shown provided they are registered or pending with AAOBPPH, PPHRNA or NAPHA. Owners in arrears with PHCBC, PHCA, PHAC or NAPHA will not be allowed to show until arrears are cleared. R U L E S A N D R E G U L AT I O N S The shows are run under PHAC show rules and in any case where this Premium List appears to be in conflict with those rules, the PHAC Rules shall take precedence. Everything possible is being done to conduct this show on the highest possible level for the pleasure of the exhibitors and spectators. The best adjudicating officials to be found have been selected and they will place awards on the horses as they see them presented in the ring, without regard to previous records and performances. The PHCBC and PHCA are most desirous of fair treatment for all exhibitors and in return ask for cooperation of all helping to make this show a successful and enjoyable event. All showing procedures and judging percentages as well as definitions, class descriptions, descriptions of gear and attire, conduct and ethics, and conditions for this show are described in the above named publications. ALL EXHIBITORS, HANDLERS AND RIDERS and other persons participating in the show are responsible for a thorough knowledge of ALL R U L E S A N D R E G U L AT I O N S . Displays of poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. Anyone with a complaint or protest must file at the show office and arrange for an appointment with the official Show Steward. RESPONSIBILITY All entries will be accepted with the understanding that the PHCBC, PHCA, PHAC, members of the show committee and Claresholm Agriplex will not be held responsible for any loss, personal damage or injury to horses exhibited, or for any article of any kind or nature that in any way may be lost or destroyed or in any way damaged. All horses shall be under the control and d i r e c t i o n o f t h e S h o w M a n a g e m e n t b u t s o l e l y a t t h e r i s k o f t h e e x h i b i t o r, w h o w i l l b e responsible for any injury that may be occasioned to any person or animal or damage to any property while on the grounds by any horse owned or exhibited by him/her and shall indemnify the management against all claims or damages of any kind or nature, including attorney fees and court costs, that may arise out of any injury occasioned by any horse owned or exhibited by him or arising from any cause whatever including the negligence of himself or any other person in charge of any such horse. PLEASE ensure that you have sufficient personal i n s u r a n c e c o v e r a g e t o s u p p l e m e n t t h e c o v e r a g e p r o v i d e d b y t h e s h o w. SUBSTITUTION OF JUDGES AND OTHER OFFICIALS In the event that the judge (or other official designated herein) is unable to perform his/her duties due to circumstances beyond his/her control or for any other reason, the Peruvian Horse Club of BC and/or the Peruvian Horse Club of Alberta reserve the right to substitute another approved judge (or other official) in his/her place. JUDGE'S AUTHORITY The judge shall have the authority to place any horse in whatever position in a class he/she thinks the merit of the horse justifies. The Judge shall award first, second or third place, etc., according to merit, but shall award places starting with first and continuing in order in each 3


class. This applies whether there are one or more entries in a class. If there are more horses of merit in a class than there are prizes offered in that class, the Judge has the right to award honorable mentions. There will be a $5.00 fee to cover the cost of testing (included in ALL-IN-ONE fee). If a horse is randomly chosen, it is escorted to separate area where it must be kept until successful collection of a sample of blood or urine. Also prohibited are any drugs which might mask or screen the presence of forbidden substances. Any horse entered in an approved show is subject to examination by the official show veterinarian. Such examinations may include physical, saliva, urine and blood. S TA L L I O N S For the purposes of showing, stallions 4 and over will be required to have two descended testicles. The only exception being those registered as breeding stallions with the PHAC, AAOBPPH, PPHRNA or NAPHA with one descended testicle for which veterinary certification can be provided showing that the missing testicle was lost due to non-hereditary causes such a s i l l n e s s o r i n j u r y. PRUEBA FUNCIONAL T h i s i s m a n d a t o r y f o r a l l h o r s e s w h i c h q u a l i f y f o r a C h a m p i o n s h i p i n t h e b r e e d i n g , l u x u r y, performance, pleasure and gait divisions (under saddle) in this show. It will consist of three (3) miles more or less, which must be covered in thirty (30) minutes or less. The horses must work in gait and must wear a saddle and bridle of any style. The Prueba Funcional is not to be used as a means of disqualifying horses in and of itself. Provided the horse completes the Prueba in the allotted time, the horse will be eligible to enter the championship class w h e r e e l i m i n a t i o n s f o r u n s o u n d n e s s w i l l t a k e p l a c e i n t h e u s u a l m a n n e r. T h e P r u e b a F u n c i o n a l w i l l b e h e l d o n S u n d a y, J u l y 1 7 t h a t 7 : 3 0 a m i n t h e A r e n a . A l i s t o f q u a l i f y i n g h o r s e s t h a t m u s t complete the Prueba will be posted outside the show office. If your horse qualifies, please report 15 minutes prior to your allotted time.

P L E A S E N O T E : F O R D O U B L E R E G I O N A L S H O W S O N LY - A n y b i t h o r s e w h i c h h a s qualified for a championship class but has completed four (4) saddle classes for that show will be exempt from the Prueba. As per BOD ruling, returning C h a m p i o n s c o m p l e t i n g a n y 4 s a d d l e s c l a s s e s f o r e i t h e r c l u b s h o w, w i l l f u l f i l t h e 4 saddle class rule.

R I B B O N S A N D AWA R D S Ribbons will be awarded for first through fifth place in every class. Champions of Champions, Best Gait and Best Bozal will receive large traditional neck ribbons. Large, distinctive ribbons will be awarded to Champions and Reserve Champions. Trophies will be awarded to Champions, Champion of Champions, Best Gait, Best Bozal and High Point Winners. PRIMERISO (NOVICE) DIVISION – Please note rule change effective January 1, 2007. As of January 1, 2007, a Novice will be defined as a person who on January 1st of the current y e a r, h a s n o t w o n f i v e f i r s t p l a c e a w a r d s i n c l a s s e s a t s h o w s a p p r o v e d b y t h e P H A C , N A P H A . PPHRNA, or AAOBPPH. (I.E. if a person starts the year as a novice, they will be eligible to 6


show as a novice for the entire calendar year even if they pass the “five-firsts” milestone d u r i n g t h e y e a r. ) P l e a s e r e a d P H A C S h o w R u l e s R u l e I X , P a r t I I , S e c t i o n 6 A f o r t h e complete rules in this division. Exhibitors with shod horses will be permitted to participate in this division but cannot participate in any other classes except the Costume Class. A High Point Primeriso award will be presented to the exhibitor that has accumulated the most points i n t h e q u a l i f y i n g c l a s s e s a t t h i s s h o w. . JUNIOR CLASSES Please note: Effective January 1, 2007, helmets are mandatory for Junior riders in the 12 a n d u n d e r a g e c a t e g o r y. T h e J u n i o r D i v i s i o n w i l l b e s p l i t i n t w o a g e g r o u p s w h e r e p o s s i b l e (12 years of age & under and 13 years of age & over). At the discretion of the Show C o m m i t t e e , t h e j u n i o r c l a s s e s m a y b e r u n s i m u l t a n e o u s l y, h o w e v e r j u d g i n g a n d r i b b o n presentation will remain separated. H I G H P O I N T H O R S E O F S H O W AWA R D The entry with the highest number of points based on the top five placings in their best classes w i l l b e t h e H i g h P o i n t H o r s e o f S h o w. P o i n t w i l l b e a w a r d e d 1 – 6 ( 1 f o r p a r t i c i p a t i o n , 6 f o r 1 st place). Classes which qualify for High Point Horse of Show points are: 6, 8, 9, 26, 27, 33, 39, & 50. JUDGING PROCEDURE: The horses will be judged by both Judges, however the Judges will NOT CONFER; except in the event of dismissing a horse, the judges must confer and be unanimous. Any requests requiring the consent of the other Judge (such as for a short recess) s h a l l b e m a d e t h r o u g h t h e R i n g S t e w a r d , w h o w i l l a d v i s e t h e o t h e r J u d g e a n d t h e A n n o u n c e r. A. REGULAR CLASSES: A Champion of Champions or Laureado horse will not appear on the Judge's card, for that division, for a club in which it is a past Champion of Champions or Laureado. B. CHAMPIONSHIP CLASSES: Horses that qualify in a regular class will be judged in the show in which it qualified. C. CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS CLASSES: Past champions may go directly into the Champion of Champions classes for which they are qualified, along with the champions o f t h e c u r r e n t y e a r. T h e p a s t N a t i o n a l C h a m p i o n s o f C h a m p i o n s w i l l a l s o b e a l l o w e d t o enter directly: NAPHA, PPHRNA, AAOBPPH, and PHAC. A Laureado horse will not appear on Judge's card, for that division, for the show in which it is Laureado. SPECIAL CLASS RULES

Prize money will be awarded from a percentage of the proceeds from entries and donations, to be divided as follows: 1st 40%; 2nd - 25%; 3rd - 20%; 4th - 10%; 5th - 5%. It is open to Stallions, Mares, and Geldings and is based on the total n u m b e r o f p o i n t s w o n o v e r t h e t w o y e a r s . I t i s a n i n c e n t i v e p r o m o t e d b y t h e P H C A o n l y, a n d the points used will only come from competing at the same PHCA Regional Show for 2 years in a r o w . T h e q u a l i f y i n g c l a s s e s w i l l b e B r e e d i n g / L u x u r y, G a i t a n d O p e n P e r f o r m a n c e f o r t h e b i t horse as well as all the bozal classes for the bozal horses.
