“It was an HONOR leading such a successful team of hairstylists and makeup artists for such a great cause...raising money for Worth More Nation and Rochester Museum & Science Center’s Educational Program. My team and I were expected to do hair and makeup for 80+ models within a 6-hour time frame, and we did it in FIVE! We were forced to start an hour later, it was chaotic backstage - that is to be expected, but WE DID IT! And I am BEYOND proud of my team of people for doing a KILLER job and keeping it together: CE Eaton, Kaleigh Cleveland, Jessica Driggs, Emily Mazza Makeup, Courtney Dressler, Carmella Chanel, Sachi Jumpp, Cathleen Messare, Candice Loveless, Kim Goetz, Mary Boyce, Alexandria Belpanno, and Tiffanie Tartaglia. đ&#x;’ž And, of course, a special thank you to a few models who were happy to step up to the plate and help out where needed: Sheila Young, Emily Pangburn, and Naiya K’Nai! The night was completely based around making those kids look and feel beautiful‌to remind them ALL how much they truly matter. Our team went above and beyond, and it was honestly a blessing to have such a talented team of people working on something so important together.â€?

BIRD & THE FISH PHOTOS BY CHARLENE MANN PHOTOGRAPHY

Couture designer Justina Prince of Baltimore shares her breathtaking Bird and the Fish collection on the runway today featuring spectacular designs made of fine feathers, luxurious textures, vibrant colors and elaborate designs. Prince is a multimedia artist, former dancer and model who has had her hands and heart in creative direction, hair and makeup design, photography and now couture fashion. Prince’s Bird and the Fish collection highlights the idea of symbiosis of species between the Bird and T h e Fi s h , a n d more specifically t h e d e s i g n e r ’s experiences growing up in foster care. “When children are separated from their parents and placed in new homes, we are like a different species who share an environment.

We need and demand of each other to create symbiosis and peace, and a sense of wellbeing. We are trying to create a worth more nation where

children feel on the inside that they are worth more, not because someone else thinks that about them, but because they know their own worth. A bird may love a fish and vice versa, but where will they live?” she asks. It’s up to us to make that happen. The out of this world, hair and makeup for this amazing shoot was lead and designed by Audrey Avirett and includes the work or our amazing team of artists including: Jessica Driggsmakeup, Kim G o e t z - h a i r, Candice Loveless - Hair, Kaleigh Cleveland - makeup CE Eaton- Makeup, Courtney Dressler - assistant and headpieces were the magnificent designs of Kat Cote and Tita Rutlidge.

{ WORTH MORE NATION }

WORTH MORE NATION PHOTOS BY CHARLENE MANN FORD, MICHAEL CRISIFULLI, MARISA NICODEMUS & BOB SHULTZ

This collection was conceptualized and created through a collaboration between Worth More Nation and designers Carrie Craver of Lady Bug Kisses and Justina Prince of Mmuawh Studio. The children that were on the runway have been impacted by foster care and are either currently in foster care, were raised in foster care, were adopted through foster care or are members of families who foster. There were also have a special group of twin models who have had the good fortune to NOT be separated in foster care placements unlike many other sibling and twin groups who have deeply suffered through separation.

103

The Worth More Nation models were wearing uniquely designed and personally painted clothing created out of garbage bags to raise awareness of the need for children in foster care to have actual bags to carry their belongings instead of trash bags. We take a stand against the lack of dignity for the over 400,000 children in foster care in the United States who need our support and financial contributions. To donate a sturdy bag for children in foster care, stop by the Worth More Nation table to purchase a bag for Children Awaiting Parents and HIS Ministries closets. Worth More Nation empowers children in

foster care to know they are Worth More through initiatives including our annual Miss Worth More Nation Pageant for Girls in Foster Care; our special occasion closet that provides upscale dress attire for girls in foster care for proms, pageants and special events; our annual collection to provide bags, toiletries, pajamas, blankets and books for children in foster care; our annual holiday toy drive; and a monthly column in Rochester Woman Online that shares news, features, needs and happenings in the Rochester foster care community. CORINNE FALLONE PHOTOS BY MARISA NICODEMUS, MICHAEL CRISIFULLI, & BOB SCHULTZ

Corinne Fallone is a full time fine artist and entrepreneur in Rochester, New York. She received her BFA in illustration at Rochester Institute of Technology and since then has started her own business, CAF Creations. Fallone paints to inspire and lift the spirits of those around her. Fallone’s vibrant and colorful paintings walked the runway in the Rochester Women Online “Fashion Under The Stars” show on April 25th!

Fallone primarily works with acrylic paints on canvas but for our special event she used body paints to create designs on the models’ skin! She painted 5 models live in front of an audience at the Planetarium in a total of 3 hours. The “walking paintings” represented a one of a kind, never before seen collection of work. The title of her body of artwork, “Reach For The Stars”, was Fallone’s rendition of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” painting. The models were painted in blue, white, yellow and orange swirls with

an impressionistic style. To top it all off, she finished her masterpieces with glitter and rhinestones. She hopes this collection is a reminder to all of how important it is to push your boundaries and leap out of your comfort zone. This was her first time ever painting bodies! Her body of work is a symbol for the GOAL GETTERS. Reach for your goals, do what makes your soul shine and you will land among the stars!

RENEE SOUCY THE LABEL PHOTOS BY MICHAEL CRISAFULLI

Renee Soucy started designing when she worked in retail. She had trouble finding clothing she wanted to wear or styles she loved, so she began to discover her own flair by taking existing designs and clothing and altering them to fit her style. Beginning in 2013, Renee never went anywhere without her sketchbook in tow, even to her job. In the beginning, she only sketched/drew wedding gowns and prom dresses. She wanted to be a fashion designer for bridal gowns and prom gowns; strictly formalwear. For years she only drew bridal, until one day she realized there were details about some pieces of clothing she wanted to change. It was difficult to find the same styles that celebrities were wearing, and the styles she did see she was not in love with. This ultimately inspired her to design her own line of clothing. Fast forward a few years to 2017: Renee got a job working at a custom apparel print shop in Macedon, New York, where she got the chance to start her first business. “Voulez”, (roughly translated means “to want”), was started in January 2018, and solely consisted of silkscreened sweatshirts and tees. The business was good, but not quite fulfilling enough for her. So after months of planning and decision making, Renee decided to start her own clothing company, where she 135

makes her own designs, along with her line of silkscreened sweatshirts and tops! “Renee Soucy The Label” launched September 1, 2018. The brand consists of a mix of sexy and sophisticated tops and swimwear,

to casual and comfy sweats, to fun and sassy tees. Another main reason Renee started designing clothing is because of the

ROCHESTER WOMAN ONLINE :: MAY/WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS EDITION 2019

way clothing makes women feel. Her ultimate goal is to make women feel beautiful in everything they wear. “The most rewarding feeling is to see someone light up when wearing a piece they feel truly beautiful in.” Currently, “Renee Soucy The Label” is still a small clothing business, but soon Renee hopes to make her mark in Rochester. “I feel truly blessed to be able to have my line walk in the Rochester Woman’s Online fashion show. My goal for “Renee Soucy The Label” is to walk in more fashion shows in Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo areas.” Alongside working on fashion shows, Renee’s other goals include meeting and working with new models and photographers, being published in more magazines, and ultimately having her clothing line in appear in stores and selling her brand worldwide via social media. Renee Soucy has always loved fashion, ever since she was a little girl, she cared about what she wore and found joy in looking good. It came full circle that Renee’s childhood dream of being in fashion was a springboard to a career in providing beautiful clothes and encouraging a sense of beauty in women. Stay tuned for Renee Soucy The Label’s upcoming spring and summer collection.

GIGI BAKER FASHION PHOTOS BY MARISA NICODEMUS, BOB SCHULTZ, CHARLENE MANN & MICHALE CRISAIFULLI

Born in Beirut - Lebanon in a multicultural family with an Iranian and Armenian heritage, Ghida “Gigi” Baker grew up during the civil war and lived a childhood of survival. It was unavoidable for her to be on a path of creativity when surrounded by ideas, change and a passion to create. Graduating with a major in design, she was fulfilled at that time, but knew there was something missing… Baker got married, moved to the states, and had two wonderful kids. The move was a life changing experience, and she knew she had an opportunity that maybe not a lot of people get to have in their lifetime. Yes, she was the immigrant who wanted to have the American dream! Life happened and 13 years later, Baker was determined to do something more, so she partnered up with her good friend

and family, Rima Abou Haidar, who happened to also move to Texas. After a lot of hard work, and determination, “GIGI BAKER” was born.

This brand is a fusion of art and fashion. Always believing that color, quality and design, would lead to something fantastic Baker collaborated with her older brother Ghazi who is a self-taught artist, and architect in Beirut. Hi s w o r k i s sought after by many major collectors all over the world and has been exhibited internationally in Art Basel, Art Miami, scope NY and many others. As he is busy c re a t i n g h i s visions, and allowing her to go with him in his adventure of color and form. Baker is fortunate enough to expand his vision and mix it with fashion to bring it to you to experience, first hand. www.gigibaker.co @gigibakerfashion

MORGAN DESTEFANO Morgan DeStefano, has been a fabulous force in the fashion industry for over 8 years. Her passionate work for working with diverse ages, silhouettes, and various styles has been recognized. Literally this Doll has worked with them all from head to toe. Her career history to date ranges from shoes to jewelry to clothing (including vintage) to children’s wear. There isn’t a category in the fashion field that Morgan hasn’t killed it in. With experience in front of and behind the cameras, every aspect has been on point! And because of this she truly is able to connect and engage not only with the client, but with the models as well. Morgan obtained her bachelors degree in Fashion Merchandising from Mercyhurst University. Morgan is well

213

aware of all the necessary aspects of today’s fashion world to achieve the perfect wardrobe. One of her major spotlight career moments was as the lead fashion stylist for a local business’ digital campaign to launch Rochester Fashion Week 2018!!! She fitted and styles 5 fabulously well known local models who showcased 3 completely different looks. Morgan would describe her personal style as trendy, edgy, and fashionably forward, while still being sustainably conscious and rocking threads from past decades. She loves mixing new pieces with vintage gems to complete a unique, one of a kind outfit. This Doll, is a severe sucker for 60’s mod floral vibrant prints, 70’s

funky jumpsuits, and classically chic 80s powerhouse blazers! She absolutely loves to support local small businesses whether it be in her hometown, Rochester, NY or where she currently resides in Erie, PA. A few of her favorite MUST visit shops in Rochester are Panache Vintage & Finer Consignment, where she found the ultimate treasure: her favorite pair of shoes besides her red bottom Christian Louboutins, her mustard yellow Prada flats!!! Both her Prada flats and Christian Louboutin heels were found at Panache. Oh and we cannot forget, The Op Shop Rochester, which is where some of her favorite vintage gems are from. In Erie, PA, Pointe Foure Vintage Boutique is her go to. This is where Morgan interned and was quickly promoted like lightening

MORGAN DESTEFANO: Wardrobe styling by Morgan DeStefano. Asymmetrical lines, two tone lines, jagged and frayed edges, and cut outs are design elements throughout the clothing. It’s all about the details! While the clothing remains neutral, pops of color can be seen in the fun statement jewelry. The deconstructed details on an edgy but classic take on the wardrobe represents the warrior scars that remain with these fierce, strong women. The details are subtle as they don’t define any woman.

MAKEUP ARTIST AUDREY AVIRETT BY CHERYL KATES I PHOTOS BY CHRIS JOHNSON

Getting to know “The Aud MUA” Behind The Brushes… 1.What made you decide to become a Makeup Artist? a. Becoming a Makeup Artist wasn’t really an option for me. I see my decision to become an MUA more as an obligatory fulfillment of my destiny than an optional path to take on the road of life. The sheer passion to create art with makeup on my own face and body along with my strong desire to help others enhance their features, spark imaginations, and inspire is what solidified the decision. 2. What is the best part of your job? a. The BEST part of what I do is the various interactions with the many people I have the pleasure of meeting. Whether it is a wedding, prom night, photo shoot, movie set, fashion show, commercial, magazine submission, or other project…My absolute FAVORITE part of what I do is the reaction to what I have done. I like to refer to it as “the great reveal” because I don’t usually show the progress of my work until the very end (or near the end, in some cases). Some people even enter a state of ecstatic shock after seeing themselves in such a way that they immediately give me a HUGE hug and cry! (But, no worries… That’s what waterproof eyeliner and mascara is good for! Haha!) I LOVE making genuine connections with my clients and how they proudly send me selfies, share photos everywhere of my work,

and come back again for more projects. I’m truly grateful for the people who love and trust me so much with their visions that they not only come back, but they also go out of their way to refer me to others. The blatant trust everyone has for me when asking me to work with them is truly a beautiful and humbling feeling. 3. What are some of your favorite memories?

a. It is SO hard to pick “favorite memories” because, as cliché as it may be, all of my memories within this industry are my favorite memories. Everyone I have ever met has stained my heart and mind with love and inspiration. However, there are a few noteworthy experiences that have inspired me more than others and a few people who have stood out a little more than others. For sake of time and space

on this page, I will narrow both subjects down to one each. b. One of my favorite projects, to this day, was being one of the MUAs for the Glam Team for “Night to Shine”. It is an unforgettable prom experience centered on God’s love for people with special needs ages 14 and older. On one night a year, (the Friday just before Valentine’s Day), hundreds of churches from around the world come together to host this event for over 100,000 honored guests. Over 200,000 volunteers take part, and I am blessed with the honor of being one of those volunteers. The “great reveals” from my time this year were THE BEST I have ever seen since I got into this industry. My honored guests were beyond excited to see themselves in the mirror when they left my chair to walk the red carpet and receive their crowns. I had an indescribable feeling of love and happiness with every hug that came with each new honored guest. The pride and joy I had when seeing my crowned guests walk the red carpet to the dance floor while being applauded by everyone was overwhelming in only the best of ways! c. As I said before, I love every project I have ever been a part of, but I would have to say a large fraction of my favorite memories can be found within the fashion industry side of what I do. For example, I am the exclusive MUA for Xstravagance Designs, and I have become great friends with the lovely and silly business owner, Naomi Smith. We have never had a boring project, and we always manage to push each other to the next level with our creations. She lets me know ahead of

time what she has created and the vibe she is trying to capture, and she 100% trusts my judgement when it comes to styling the models’ hair and makeup. We both are self-love advocates, promoters of peace, and have dedicated our lives to empowering women everywhere. It is an absolute breath of fresh air to connect on such a spiritual level with a fellow dreamer who you also enjoy on a personal level in an area still fairly new to you. 4.What is some advice for readers about using or choosing a makeup artist? a. This is such a loaded question… Haha! There is loads of advice I could give about using or choosing a makeup artist, but I can narrow it down to a few simple questions you can ask yourself and/or an MUA before working with them: i. How long have they been in the business? ii. Are they self-taught or certified? 1. Where were they certified and what type of certifications(s) do they have? iii. Do they have a portfolio? 1. Is it extensive and inclusive? a. Meaning: Do they have experience with multiple styles, skin colors, skin types, ages, etc.? iv. What products do they use? 1. Do you have any allergies? a. Are they prepared for clients with allergies? v. How do they sanitize their tools and products? vi. Can they travel to you and/or do they have their own space? vii. What are their rates? 237

1. What are the running rates in your area? viii. Who told you about them, and do you trust your referrer? b. Best advice I can give is DO YOUR RESEARCH! Don’t trust somebody can do what you want them to do JUST because they say they can. Ask for proof in whatever means you find necessary. Whether it is seeing their certification(s), seeing their portfolio, or doing a Trial Run…do whatever makes YOU comfortable. Any MUA who isn’t concerned about YOU and YOUR comfort isn’t someone you want to hire. I won’t say paying the most will get you the best, but I will definitely say that paying the least (in most cases) won’t be the best work. Just make sure to look at everything else before really focusing the price. After all, you’re looking to a professional for a reason. Make sure you hire a legitimate professional who will take your BIG day (whatever it may be) as seriously as you. Your skin is the biggest organ (both external and internal), so do your best to take care of it and its best interests… That means DO YOUR RESEARCH when hiring an MUA – the person applying products to your biggest organ! 5. What obstacles have you overcome? a. I am from a small town in Alabama called Sylvania. I grew up in this very small community (population UNDER 2,000) with a large family (I am the youngest of 5.) on a low income, and I still managed to go above and beyond even my imagination could take me. I went to college originally planning to be a nurse and staying in the state of Alabama, and here I am now as a Makeup Artist in the state of New York with a background in Psychology. Quite the difference… Haha! b. Most of the obstacles I have overcome are

ROCHESTER WOMAN ONLINE :: MAY/WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS EDITION 2019

personal obstacles I have created for myself. For example, I am 110% my own worst critic. I’ll see flaws in literally everything I ever do and/or have done. This is what helps me to improve in my trade and is also what keeps me humble. In my honest opinion, being humble is the only true way to achieve greatness. If you can’t notice things you can improve on in your trade, then you are doing it all wrong and need to humble yourself. No one has ALL of the answers, and you can learn from everyone…even if it might be what not to do. Haha! I am and will probably always be in this constant state of overcoming criticizing myself, but like I said, it is all a part of the artistic process of improving my craft. #TheStruggleIsReal 6. What are some of your upcoming projects? a. Unfortunately, a lot of the projects I do have to remain confidential because they involve work that won’t be released for a time. I can vaguely state that you will see my work gracing some covers and centerfolds of magazines, in some movies, in commercials, on runways, and on business websites. I am booked months in advance, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunities presented to me. To keep up with the hustle, you’ll have to connect with me via Social Media, but even there…I have to keep a lot on the down-low. 7. Who is the most significant person in your life and why? a. The most significant people in my life are my boys… My fiancé, Tyler Spialek, is the love of my life and my best friend. I would be so lost without him, and truth be told, I would probably not even be here if it wasn’t for him. Fun fact: We met on World of Warcraft many years ago. I was living in Alabama, and he was in Wyoming – literally states away from one another. We moved to New York to start our life together because this is where his job with

Victra (then Diamond Wireless) took us all those years ago. b. My sons, Hayden and Colten, are the driving forces behind my grind and the biggest inspirations in my life. I want them to know they can do whatever they set their minds to if they work hard and never give up. Most importantly, I want them to know they can use their voices doing what they love on the platforms they are passionate about. And, you know what “they” say, the best way to lead is from the front…by example…so here I am! 8. Where can we expect to see you in 5 years? a. I wish I could answer that question with certainty, but I am literally just riding the wave of life and going wherever it takes me. If you asked me 10 years ago where I would be, I definitely wouldn’t have said

239

New York… Shoot, if you asked me 5 years ago where I would expect to be, I wouldn’t have even said where I am today. 9. Is there anyone you would like to mention? a. I would like to thank ALL of my friends, family, clients (both past and present), and my supporters from around the world… I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for ALL of you who continue to inspire and be inspired by me and my work. You push me to the next level, and I am eternally grateful for you! b. I would like to send out a very special thank you to the talented Chris Johnson of Studio 147 Photography for providing the photos for this article of myself and my beautiful family. He is a very gifted photographer within the area who I have had the pleasure of working with on a few

projects. We make a great team, and it is an honor to call him my friend. c. And, of course, I would like to thank the team at Rochester Woman Online for this interview and making me sit down to think about myself for a minute… I’m always so busy helping others and working behind the scenes that I tend to lose and forget myself in the process. I have enjoyed working with the team for the past year, and I look forward to what the future holds! Thank you for getting to know “the girl behind the brushes”. I would LOVE to connect with y’all!
