OUR MISSION

In 1883, YWCA of Rochester and Monroe county was founded to provide secure housing for independent, working women offering rooms for rent at just $1 a week.

Today, YWCA is a lifeline for women and families in crisis. Our extensive array of housing programs and services for young adults are tailored to guide the women and families we serve toward self-sufficiency and enduring stability.

We firmly believe that the empowerment of women is intertwined with addressing racial and equities. Each year, we serve more than 1500 women and families, predominantly women and girls of color. The women we serve grapple with the dual challenges of gender and racial discrimination, underscoring the vital importance of our commitment to racial equity.

As we commemorate over 140 years of unwavering service, we invite you to stand strong in our mission to eliminate racism and empower women.
