ABOUT FESTIVE KOREA 關於韓國十月文化節

The 13th edition of Festive Korea, jointly organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong (KCC) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, supported by the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, will be grandly held in October and November this year. Aiming at sharing Korean culture and facilitating collaborations between Korea and Hong Kong, Festive Korea has attracted millions of audiences since its first launch in 2011.

After enduring a tiresome time of social distancing, it is time to get closer to each other again. With deep gratitude for the popularity and continuing interest in Korean culture despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Festive Korea 2023 has returned with even more enriching and diverse programs under the theme of "Closer to Korea."

Hong Kong citizens can experience the diverse charms of Korea in more than 40 arts and cultural programmes, including performing arts, visual arts, films, sports, K-Food and various educational programmes.

Festive Korea promises to heighten the appreciation and enjoyment of Korean arts and culture by presenting an impressive cultural feast to the Hong Kong audience.

第十三屆「韓國十月文化節」於今年十月揭開序幕，由駐香港韓 國文化院及大韓民國駐香港總領事館主辨，與大韓民國外交部 ﹑文化體育觀光部共同合作，並得到香港特別行政區政府全力 支持。「韓國十月文化節」致力於宣揚韓國文化及促進港韓之間 的交流合作，自2011年舉辦以來，已吸引逾百萬市民踴躍參與。

渡過了需保持社交距離的漫長時期，我們是時候重新拉近彼 此的距離。為答謝嚴峻疫情下眾多市民對韓國文化熱情不減， 2023年「韓國十月文化節」將以「Closer to Korea(走近韓國)」為 主題，帶來比以往更豐富多樣的特色節目。香港市民可以通過表 演藝術、視覺藝術、電影、體育和K-Food等超過40個藝術文化項 目及各種教育活動，體驗韓國的不同魅力。

「韓國十月文化節」活動包羅萬有，希望打造一個精彩矚目的文 化盛會，讓大眾一同參與，感受韓國的文化藝術氣息。

FOREWORD CONGRATULATORY MESSAGE

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center(KCC) in Hong Kong are delighted to announce the official opening of the 13th Festive Korea, the biggest Korean cultural festival in Hong Kong.

Since the launch in 2011, Festive Korea has played an essential role in sharing various charms of the Korean culture with people in Hong Kong and enriched diverse cultural values in Hong Kong as a global art and cultural hub. This year, we will present as many as 40 events sponsored by Hong Kong's leading cultural organizations.

There will be performances such as the K-Drama OST Concert, the Korean Musical "Vanishing", and Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration. There will also be exhibitions including the Porcelain Painting Exhibition themed around Hangeul (Korean alphabet) and Hong Kong MTR stations. Besides, you will also find various Korean cultural events such as the K-Pop Festival, Korean Movie Screenings, the Korean Cultural Marketplace Event and many more.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to particularly express my sincere gratitude to the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, all partner organizations, and the artists for their genuine interest and generous support for Festive Korea.

Culture is the best way to bring people together across time and borders. I look forward to welcoming everyone to Festive Korea, and it is my earnest hope that Festive Korea will serve as an important bridge of cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Korea, bringing the two regions even closer together.

韓國十月文化節自2011年在香港舉辦至今，一直扮演跟市民分 享韓國文化不同魅力的重要角色，為作為國際藝術文化樞紐的 香港增添多元文化價值。今年，在香港各主要文化機構鼎力贊助 下，韓國十月文化節將會帶來多達40項精彩活動。

今年的表演藝術包括韓劇歌曲音樂會、韓國音樂劇《消失》、國技 院跆拳道示範表演等，精選展覽則有以韓古爾（韓文文字）和港 鐵站為主題的瓷畫展，還有K-Pop Community Festival、韓國 電影放映會、韓國廣場等韓國文化活動。

藉此機會，我衷心感謝香港特別行政區政府，以及所有合作機構 和藝術家對韓國十月文化節的全力支持及參與。

Greetings! I am KIM Jangho, the director of the Korean Culture and Information Service.

First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations on the successful opening of the 13th Festive Korea in Hong Kong.

With its long-standing Eastern traditions integrated with Western cultures, Hong Kong is a center of Asian cultures and arts, with the largest art market in Asia. I am delighted that Festive Korea is held in such a cultural and arts center for Asia.

This autumn, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and Xiqu Centre’s Cantonese opera troupe is visiting Korea as representatives from Hong Kong to perform at the Seoul Arts Center and the National Gugak Center. cordially welcome the visit, which I believe will be an opportunity to further promote exchanges between cultural and arts institutions in Korea and Hong Kong.

To provide opportunities for cultural artists and organizations from Korea and Hong Kong to collaborate, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea has been holding Festive Korea since 2011.

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong has also been participating in major Hong Kong festivals such as the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival, Asia+ Festival, Hong Kong’s biggest music festival Clockenflap, and the Asia Ethnic Cultural Performances as well as collaborating with other various art and cultural organizations in Hong Kong.

今年秋天，香港管弦樂團和戲曲中心粵劇團將代表香港到訪韓 國，於藝術殿堂及國立國樂院演出。我對此由衷歡迎，相信此行 將成為港韓文化藝術團體增進交流的良好契機。

Through Festive Korea, the Korean government aims to strengthen exchanges between Koreans and Hong Kong people, facilitate mutual material exchanges, and further contribute to the development of the bilateral relations. In this regard, the Korean Cultural Center has prepared more than 40 diversified cultural events for Festive Korea 2023, including the Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Performance, a K-Drama and Hong Kong movie OST orchestra concert, the Korean Musical “Vanishing” and a Porcelain Painting Exhibition themed around Hangeul (Korean alphabet) and Hong Kong MTR stations.

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the 13th edition of “Festive Korea”, an annual gala event which brings distinctive cultural activities and programmes to Hong Kong. This edition is particularly significant in the context of resumed exchanges around the world after the pandemic.

This year’s Festive Korea covers a diverse range of activities, with a particular emphasis on pop culture well liked by Hong Kong people. Apart from a K-drama OST live concert featuring songs from popular Korean serials, there will also be handpicked gems from the flourishing Korean musicals as well as a film showcase to highlight the charm of both traditional and contemporary Korean cultures.

The National 14th Five-Year Plan has expressed clear support for Hong Kong to develop into an East-meetsWest centre for international cultural exchange. This has given full recognition to the flourishing and diverse growth of arts and culture in Hong Kong over the years, as well as our commitment to promoting arts and cultural exchanges with overseas and Mainland cities and boosting the development of related industries. As a staunch partner of Festive Korea, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will make every endeavour to support the activities and performances of the festival. We would also like to thank Festive Korea for its programme arrangements in support of the Department’s Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2023 and the first Asia+ Festival, which will enhance cross-territorial exchanges and development in arts and culture.

Themed as "Closer to Korea”, the 13th Festive Korea signifies the end of the pandemic and the reconnection between Hong Kong and Korea. This marks a memorable moment.

Festive Korea, an annual extravaganza in local arts and cultural scene, offers an array of fabulous Korean arts and cultural programmes ranging from K-pop, music, sports games and cuisine to art exhibitions, allowing the people of Hong Kong to embrace the multi-faceted and uniqueness of Korea culture. This year, signature events including the "K-Drama OST Concert", the K-pop dance show "K-pop Community Festival", the Korean Games "Squid Olympic" and the porcelain painting exhibition "CONNECT- Travelling HK MTR with Hangeul" will definitely ignite a new round of Korean wave.

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) has been dedicated to fostering the exchange and development of arts between Hong Kong and Korea, playing a pivotal role to enhance mutual cooperation and connection through supporting local artists and arts groups to participate in arts events in Korea. This October, HKADC will lead a 20-strong delegation of Hong Kong artists and practitioners to take part in the Performing Arts Market in Seoul, aiming to connect with the counterparts from Korea and other countries from the world for collaboration and discussion on the future development of the performing arts.

第十三屆「韓國十月文化節」以「Closer to Korea」為主題，寓意疫 情退卻，香港與韓國之間的關係得以再次拉近，對兩地別具意義。 「韓國十月文化節」是本地文化藝術界的年度盛事，每年都會為 香港巿民帶來一系列富有韓國特色的文化藝術活動，項目涵蓋 K-pop、音樂、運動遊戲、飲食和藝術展覽等，讓巿民大眾盡情 體驗韓國多元而獨特的魅力。今年，重點節目如「韓劇歌曲音樂 會」、跳舞表演「K-pop Community Festival」、韓國遊戲及運動 會「魷魚奧運會」、瓷器彩繪展覽「連繫 - 與韓古爾同遊港鐵」等， 更是耳目一新，相信屆時定必掀起新一輪韓流熱潮。

Set in Seoul in 1925, the original Korean musical "Vanishing" portrays the eternal and fleeting aspects of life through the story of medical students named "Uisin" and "Myeongryeol", who met a vampire named "K" in a deserted house. Through the encounter between a vampire and humans, the story intertwines the tales of the characters, the one who will not disappear, the one who is disappearing, and the one who is afraid of disappearing, to convey a message about eternity and extinction.

原創韓國音樂劇《消失》以1925年的京城（今首爾）為背景，通過 醫科生義信和明烈在廢宅中遇見吸血鬼K後所發生的故事，描 繪生命永恆和短暫的兩面。

透過吸血鬼與人類的相遇，不會消失、正在消失、害怕消失的人 物故事互相交織，傳遞關於永恆與滅絕的訊息。

"New Traditional Korean Music Dance Performance: Playing under the Blue Moon" is a creative music and dance performance that revolves around the theme of the traditional Korean Festival Daeboreum (Full Moon of the Lunar New Year). Yeonhee Group 'YEONHWA' reinterprets various traditional celebration rituals, games, music, and dances through their performances of instrumental music, singing, and dancing. By incorporating the rhythms and characteristics of Pungmul (Korean traditional folk music) from different regions of Korea, they create new beats and melodies, presenting Korean traditional music in a vibrant modern style. Regardless of their age or background, audiences will be given an one and only chance to fully experience the vibrant and unique music, dance, and exciting energy of Korea.

Since the pandemic is over, exchanges between countries and regions are gradually resuming. Many Korean artists have performed in Hong Kong every month since 2023, bringing the popularity of K-Pop in Hong Kong back to its peak. Dance Festival 2023: HOTPOT East Asia Dance Platform "Korea"

HOTPOT東亞舞蹈平台《韓國篇》

Come enjoy performances by five groups of talents from Korea. They will address a wide range of themes from society and personal values, to traditions and modernity, while displaying the diversity of Korean contemporary dance through distinctive choreographic styles.

Choreographed by CHOI Soyoung, “Byeol Yang” has been on tour in several dance festivals, with their minimalist duo performance exploring the relationship between the environment during the pandemic and the inertia of the human body. SHIN Changho’s “No Comment” has been performed in London, Dusseldorf, Milan, Montreal and more,

with a powerful dance ensemble expressing a metaphor for how truth is suppressed and strives to survive in reality.

Choreographer CHO Inho’s “In My Own Name” is imbued with Korean flavours as an introspection on personal identity through combining physical movement and traditional music. “Quotation Dance” discovers the subject of creative ownership and its grey areas through movements and texts created by choreographer CHUNG Da Soul to challenge the notion of a choreographer’s role and position in creative works. “Hauntology”, a piece by Art Project BORA’s Artistic Director KIM Bora, features dancers who return to the fundamentals of dance between reality and fantasy.

CONNECT - Traveling HK MTR With Hangeul

連繫 － 與韓古爾同遊港鐵

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong and T.O.LEE Porcelain Art will jointly present “CONNECT- Traveling HK MTR With Hangeul”, a grand group exhibition with the participation of 98 artists, showcasing a total of 99 porcelain artworks.

The exhibition will showcase porcelain artworks featuring calligraphy of the names of MTR stations written in the Korean alphabet, Hangeul. These artworks are designed by the calligraphy artist Lucia CHOI and painted with symbolic features and iconic attractions near the stations.

The exhibition features the collaboration with various Korean and local porcelain painting artists associations including T.O.LEE Porcelain Art, The Hong Kong Porcelain Painting Club, International Porcelain Artists & Teachers Asia Chapter and AnE Porcelain Art.

After the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong exhibition, the porcelain artworks will be displayed first in Central MTR station in December, and then later moved to Sheung Wan and Sai Wan Ho MTR stations from January to April 2024.

駐香港韓國文化院聯同T.O.Lee瓷畫會呈獻《連繫 - 與韓古爾同遊 港鐵》瓷畫展，超過98位藝術家參與，共展出99件瓷器藝術作品。

是次瓷畫展將展示以韓文書寫地鐵站名稱的瓷器。作品中的韓 文地鐵站名稱由書法藝術家Lucia CHOI設計，各地藝術家則在 瓷器上繪製了各車站的特徵及車站附近的地標。

參與是次展覽的藝術家來自多個韓國及本地瓷繪藝術機構，包 括T.O.Lee瓷畫會、香港瓷畫會、國際瓷畫家亞洲分會及AnE愛‧ 瓷畫室。

瓷器藝術品於駐香港韓國文化院展出後，將於12月在中環地鐵 站首先展出，並在稍後移至上環和西灣河地鐵站，由2024年1月 展出至4月。

SUNFLOWERSearching for Happiness

向日葵 － 尋找幸福

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong and T.O.LEE Porcelain Art will jointly present “SUNFLOWER- Searching for Happiness”, with the participation of 17 Korean artists and showcasing 29 porcelain artworks. It will be held on the 7/F of Korean Cultural Center, while another Korea-Hong Kong exchange porcelain paintings exhibition, “CONNECTTraveling HK MTR with Hangeul”, will be held on the 6/F. Sunflowers symbolize wealth and luck at all times and in all places. Thus, they were often painted in artworks to represent auspiciousness. In the exhibition, the artists incorporated sunflowers into their porcelain artworks in various ways.

駐香港韓國文化院聯同T.O.Lee瓷畫會呈獻《向日葵 - 尋找幸 福》，邀請到17位韓國藝術家參與，共展出29件瓷器藝術作品。 展覽將於駐香港韓國文化院7樓進行，而6樓將展出象徵港韓交 流的瓷畫展《連繫 - 與韓古爾同遊港鐵》。

Korean Ceramic Pavilion: Fine Art Asia 2023

In collaboration with the Korea Ceramic Foundation, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong will present the “Korean Ceramic Pavilion” booth in Fine Art Asia 2023.

Fine Art Asia is recognized as Asia’s leading fine art fair by the international art community. Fine Art Asia 2023 is held in the same venue as other major autumn fine art auctions, attracting high-profile and sophisticated dealers, collectors, connoisseurs and art lovers from every corner of the world.

Artworks created by 10 renowned Korean craft artists will be available for sale at the fair, including pottery for everyday use and artworks to be appreciated at home. After the fair, the “Korean Ceramic Pavilion” will be relocated and showcased at the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong in PMQ, a complex cultural space full of local craft studios, in order to give visitors an extraordinary cultural experience.

Reinterpreting Hangeul in the Modern Era

近代韓古爾研究所

The Hangeul Design Project aims to reveal the artistic and industrial value of the Korean alphabet, Hangeul, by reinterpreting it from a design perspective. Invented in 1443 by King Sejong (1397-1450), the fourth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty, Hangeul has served as a foundation for Korean culture for over 570 years, while going through various changes due to the lifestyle of Koreans.

The artworks featured in the exhibition were created by contemporary designers and artists, inspired by the items in the National Hangeul Museum’s collection. They embody the orthographic ideas regarding Hangeul in the modern era, Western perspectives to the Korean alphabet, its stylistic beauty from various combinations and arrangements in modern-day publications, and its calligraphic aesthetics.

韓古爾實驗項目從設計觀點重新詮釋韓國文字，闡明韓國 固有文字的藝術及工業價值。1443年，朝鮮第四代皇帝世宗 （1397~1450）發明韓文，韓文在其後570多年間形成了韓國文 化的基礎，並隨著韓國人的生活發生了各種變化。 展覽作品由現代設計師及藝術家創作，靈感來自韓國國立韓古 爾博物館藏品。展品體現了現代對韓文正字的關注、西方人對韓 文的嶄新觀點、現代出版物中各種韓文組合和排列的文體美，以 及韓文的書法美學。

Science and Art Calligraphy Exhibition 2023

科學與藝術: 書藝同行展2023

The Silla kingdom of Korea had a close tie with the Tang dynasty of China for a long time. There were many Korean students who studied abroad in China. Among them, the most celebrated student was CHOE Chiwon. He stayed in China for almost 18 years and was dispatched to Yang Zhou in China to assist in military and political administration for four years. Many East Asian historical texts and stone steles show records of his literary works and footprints in China.

“Science and Art Calligraphy Exhibition 2023” invited renowned scientists and students from different disciplines to create calligraphy artworks and English translation works inspired by the rarely used East Asian historical texts and stone steles. It is hoped that the community can reflect on the wisdom of CHOE Chiwon in the modern society.

韓國的新羅王朝與中國的唐朝邦交深厚，眾多韓國學生赴唐留 學，當中最有名的則屬崔致遠。崔致遠留華近18年，曾擔任淮南 節度使幕府，在揚州協助處理軍政職務達四年之久。許多東亞歷 史文獻如《桂苑筆耕集》、《孤雲先生文集》和其他石碑仍記載著 他的文學作品和在中國的足跡。

《科學與藝術:書藝同行展2023》邀請著名科學家和主修不同範 疇的學生，以鮮為人知的東亞歷史文獻和石碑為題材，創作書法 藝術和英譯作品。希望透過藝術和文學創作，讓現代社會思考崔 致遠的智慧及其帶來的啟發。

Soluna Fine Art: Fifth Anniversary Group Exhibition

Soluna Fine Art presents a group exhibition to celebrate the Fifth Anniversary of the gallery's operations in the Sheung Wan district of Hong Kong.

The exhibition showcases an eclectic mix of fine art paintings and objects created by emerging and established international contemporary artists, including artists from Hong Kong and Seoul.

Visitors will be able to consider the group exhibition as the first step to reiterate Soluna Fine Art's revised mission to revitalize multicultural aesthetics and philosophy by showcasing works of traditional values in a contemporary dialogue.

The Stroll Gallery: The Picnic (in Wonderland)

The new solo exhibition of Yislow, the renowned Korean artist, titled "The Picnic (in Wonderland)", will be held at The Stroll Gallery in Hong Kong from 3 November to 30 December 2023. Known for her fairytale expressions and enchanting characters, the exhibition will be a combination of Yislow’s imagination and creativity.

The exhibition will invite visitors into an ideal world where Yislow's character friends come to life. The space will be filled with a colourful array of unique sculptures that offer a special world to explore with Yislow's beloved characters. A variety of artworks will be displayed, including balloon fixtures, “Lo” dolls, paintings, videos and art merchandises.

There will also be various events, including a pop-up shop with a local dessert brand, art jamming, sticker walls, photo zones with media walls and slime experience at the gallery space. This will offer Hong Kong audiences a new way to experience Yislow's artworks.

Would you like to be a master in Korean food? The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong is honored to organize “The Korean Food Craftsman Cook Certificate Course and Contest” this year. Don’t miss the chance!

The course includes a total of 15 lessons to teach you 31 different Korean dishes, the way of managing Korean food ingredients and hygiene, the Korean food culture and Korean dining etiquette. It will prepare you well for the certificate examination. We are proud to invite Ms. WOO Youngsun (우영선), a Korean food masterchef with more than 50 years of experience, to be the instructor of the course. At the end of the course, there will be a contest among the participants.

K-Food in Movie –“Little Forest”

電影中的韓食 －《小森林》

“Little Forest” is a 2018 Korean drama film based on a manga series of the same name by Daisuke Igarashi which was first published in 2002. The film is about a young woman who is tired of her life in the urban city returning to her childhood home in the countryside. “I came back because I’m hungry.” This line demonstrates how the young woman misses her home-cooked comfort food.

In the film, there are numerous cooking scenes of the young woman using fresh ingredients from the natural environment to make Korean dishes. One of the scenes shows how the young woman make Kimchi Sujebi (hard-torn noodle soup) and Baechujeon (Napa cabbage pancake). Would you like to learn how to make them and try the taste of Korea? Join our “K-Food in Movie” event! Participants will first watch the movie “Little Forest”, and then watch the demonstration of chef making Kimchi Sujebi and Baechujeon, followed by a tasting session.

《小森林》是2018年上映的韓國劇情片，改編自日本漫畫家五十 嵐大介2002年首次發行的同名漫畫。電影講述一名厭倦了城市 生活的年輕女子回到童年農村家園的故事。「我回來是因爲我餓 了。」這句台詞正好體現了主角對家鄉食物的懷念。

“Healthy Me, Healthy Planet”

Hansik Workshop

Sustainability is a concept widely promoted in every aspect of our modern society. However, did you know that Hansik, the traditional Korean cooking style, has been applying the concept of ‘living sustainably in harmony with nature’ for hundreds of years? Kimjang, which refers to the making and sharing of kimchi, perfectly exemplifies how Koreans have been preparing food following the cycle of nature and using seasonal local produce.

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong will organize cooking workshops hosted by the Hong Kong social enterprise, wknd, with Korean ajummas (aunts in Korean) who love to cook, eat and share special moments among them.

During the four sessions, we will cook together, while reflecting on sustainability in relation to our individual wellbeing, with a focus on mindful cooking and consumption choices that we can put into practice every day. No previous experiences are needed. Come and join us to have fun while making Korean food!

Kukkiwon Taekwondo Demonstration Performance 國技院跆拳道示範表演

When it comes to the signature sport of Korea, everyone will think of Taekwondo. Besides physical fitness, Taekwondo is also a sport that emphasizes discipline and willpower, with a long history since as early as 1955. In September this year, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong is honored to invite Kukkiwon to Hong Kong for a demonstration performance to kick off the "Festive Korea 2023". Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters, was established in 1972 to promote and popularize Korea's original national Taekwondo technique. They have dedicated a lot to the globalization of Taekwondo and the promotion of martial arts Taekwondo. 提到韓國的代表運動，相信大家都會想起跆拳道。跆拳道始於 1955年，歷史悠久。除了強身健體之外，也是一種十分著重紀律 和意志力的運動。今年9月，文化院有幸邀請國技院來港進行示 範表演，為韓國十月文化節揭開序幕。國技院是世界跆拳道本 部，於1972年成立，旨在宣揚並普及韓國原創國技跆拳道，持續 致力於跆拳道世界化及推廣武道跆拳道。

Mobile games are essential for most teenagers these days. Many computer games are also developed into mobile versions to further attract teenage users. With the increasing number of mobile game contests, attractive prizes for winners and effective training for players, many teams have participated in an extensive range of competitions. Becoming an esports player has already become one of the most popular goals among teenagers. This year, Com2uS China, Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong will jointly organize the 2023 Korean E-Sport Festival - SUMMONERS WAR again this year.

Korean Independent Film Showcase

韓國獨立電影展演

Korean films and actors have been shinning in different film festivals. Korean film is undoubtedly becoming more recognized nowadays. At the same time, independent films also fight for their recognition in the category of Korean film. Independent films are different from major films because directors' thoughts are reflected by filming techniques and producers’ perspectives are also displayed more explicitly on the screen.

Last year, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong presented three independent films, resulted in the support and love from Hong Kong audiences. This year, we hope that more people can enjoy more Korean independent films. We will continue to organize the Korean Independent Film Showcase and present four independent films of different genres, aiming to increase the awareness of Korean independent films in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (Korean Select)

The Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (HKAFF), organized by the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival Society, is held from October to November every year. This year marks its 20th anniversary. Pursuing its aims of promoting Asian films to the public in Hong Kong, that includes not only various genres of top-notch films from Asia, but also the productions of uprising and talented young filmmakers in the film industry.

Honorable guests ranging from newcomers of the movie industry to internationally renowned celebrities will be invited to join the Festival. Talks and sharing programmes will be held to facilitate exchange of ideas and interaction between the filmmakers and the audience.

The Hong Kong Asian Film Festival will partner with Festive Korea again this year to present selected Korean films for the Hong Kong audience to enjoy in the cinema and feel the attractiveness of Korean films, encouraging the audience to give ongoing support to Korean and Asian films.

香港亞洲電影節由香港亞洲電影節協會主辦，於每年十月到 十一月期間舉行，今年已經踏入第20年。作為香港最大規模的亞 洲電影平台，電影節一直致力向大衆推廣亞洲電影，當中不只 亞洲各地的頂尖一流大作，亦包括年輕新晉製作人的作品。 香港亞洲電影節期間會舉辦一連串活動，如座談會及不同映後 分享會，並邀請新晉導演，甚至國際名人、演員等出席，促進電影 製作人與觀眾之間的互動交流，加深觀眾對電影的認識。

The Origins of the South Korean Film Renaissance 韓國電影復興的起源

The Origins of the South Korean Film Renaissance is an international film studies conference. This three-day academic event will be jointly organized by the Department of Digital Arts and Creative Industries (DA+CI) at Lingnan University and the Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington (UW). This event is also organized by M+ Cinema and associated with the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong. With the support of the Academy of Korean Studies, Lingnan University, University of Washington.

This conference will examine the 1990s film cultures and industries in South Korea and how the transformation of the industries, the emergence of the media conglomerates, cinematheque movements, the birth of Busan International Film Festival, the proliferation of film schools, new film journalism, translations of film studies textbooks and theories, digital technologies and portable DVCAMs, the IMF crisis and the dot-com revolution laid the foundation for the renaissance of Korean cinemas.

韓古爾與文化教育 HANGEUL& EDUCATION

Korea Forum for Hong Kong Young Leaders 2023

Korea Forum is a secondary school group research project and presentation contest aiming at enhancing the interest and understanding in different areas of Korea of local secondary students by providing a platform for them to learn about Korea and to share and discuss Korea-related topics with their peers. Students will form groups of 2 to 4 and select a research topic of interest related to Korea, including but not limited to Korean society, economy, history, Hallyu (Korean wave) and pop cultures, food and tourism.

Finalists will participate in the “Korea Forum 2023” held in the University of Hong Kong on the 21st of October to present their research insights to the judges and the audience.

中學生專題研習成果簡報發表大賽旨在提高本地中學生對韓國 不同範疇的興趣和了解，並為中學生提供與同齡人討論及分享 韓國相關議題的平台。學生將組成二至四人小組，並選擇感興趣 的韓國相關主題進行專題研習，當中包括韓國社會、經濟、歷史、 韓流及潮流文化、飲食、旅遊。

成功進入決賽的組別將參與10月21日在香港大學舉行的中學 生專題研習成果簡報發表大賽，向評判和觀眾分享他們的專題 研究成果。

Hangeul Cultural Products Exhibition

韓古爾設計商品展覽

Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, is the official writing system for the Korean language. Supported by the National Hangeul Museum, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong will present a special exhibition featuring various Hangeul cultural products selected and developed from the "Hangeul Content Development Support Project” hosted by the National Hangeul Museum.

In the exhibition, various Hangeul-inspired design products created with excellent and creative ideas will be displayed, allowing the public to learn more about the excellence, beauty and potential of Hangeul, the Korean alphabet in visual arts.

韓古爾，又稱韓國文字，是韓文使用的表音文字。駐香港韓國文 化院將舉辦韓古爾文化商品特別展，當中展出的韓古爾文化商 品均從國立韓古爾博物館主辦的「韓古爾文化產業開發支援事 業」中挑選並開發。

是次展覽將展出各種以韓古爾為靈感的優秀創意設計商品, 讓 大衆進一步了解韓古爾在視覺藝術創作方面的價值和潛力。

K-Craft Workshop Series

The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong is glad to present a K-Craft workshop series in October on themes including “Bojagi (Wrapping Cloths)”, “Najeon chilgi (Lacquerwork Inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl)” and “Cheongsa Lantern (Traditional Korean Lantern)”.

Bojagi is a kind of traditional Korean decorative wrapping cloth typically used for wrapping gifts and lunch boxes. In the workshop, participants will learn the history and culture of Bojagi as well as different ways to wrap gifts with beautiful Bojagi cloths to make them look more elegant.

Najeon/ jagae (mother-of-pearl) refers to the shells of abalones or clams. By using the Najeon technique, Koreans attach shiny pieces of sea shells on the surface of lacquered objects to decorate them. The Najeon technique has been widely used for Korean furniture and ornaments. Participants will learn the history of Najeon chilgi and make a najeon keyring.

螺鈿（珍珠母）是鮑魚或蛤的殼。螺鈿工藝是將貝殼鑲嵌在漆器 表面的一種裝飾工藝，在韓國被廣泛用於傢俱和裝飾品上。導師 將指導參加者利用經加工處理成薄片的螺鈿製作精美的鎖匙 扣。

‘The Story of Minhwa’ Talk

《民畫的故事》講座

Minhwa, which refers to Korean folk paintings, is a traditional form of folk art from the Joseon era. They are usually produced by itinerant or unknown artists for decoration purposes and often depict the daily life of ordinary people.

Minhwa tells stories. By appreciating Minhwa, not only can we understand the story of the artist, but also the story of a family, a community and a country. Every element and feature is a hint, telling us the story of the artwork. The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong is honored to have Ms. LEE Youngae from <Art Minhwa> as the speaker of the talk. She will be an ‘interpreter’ of Minhwa to explain the story behind Minhwa.

民畫，即韓國傳統民間藝術，起源於朝鮮時代，通常是四處漂泊 或不知名的畫家的作品。民畫主題以描繪市井小民的日常生活 為主，作日常裝飾之用。

民畫會講故事。我們不但能從民畫中讀到畫家的故事，更能讀懂 一個家庭、一個社會、一個國家的故事。畫中每個元素、特徵都是 一個提示，告訴我們畫作的故事。駐香港韓國文化院很榮幸能邀 請<Art Minhwa>的李英愛女士擔任是次講座的講者。她將化身 民畫的「翻譯員」，為大家解讀民畫背後的故事。

Lucia CHOI is a famous calligraphy artist based in Korea with extensive experience in conducting calligraphy related events and workshops in Korea and abroad. To celebrate the Hangeul Day, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong will hold the Hangeul Day Special Event, ‘Meet Lucia in Hong Kong’, on the 7th of October. Visit the Korean Cultural Center on that day to get a postcard with your name written in Hangeul calligraphy by Lucia.

Special Lecture: Teaching Korean through K-Dramas

Have you, who are passionately learning Korean, ever imagined yourself teaching Korean to other students?

Professor PARK Sooyeon, the head of Korean Language Department at Sejong Cyber University, will be visiting The University of Hong Kong to conduct a special lecture on Korean teaching methods. Professor PARK mainly lectures Korean vocabulary and grammar education theory, and has even participated in the writing of various Korean textbooks, such as "Korean Wave 3 BTS, Korean as a Foreign Language for Secondary School Learners", “Teaching Productive Skills of Korean Language” etc.

This lecture will focus on Korean dramas, allowing participants to understand how to teach Korean language to students in a lively and interesting way through Korean dramas. Professor PARK will also conduct a teaching demonstration on the spot. If you aspire to become a Korean language teacher, you cannot miss this special lecture!

Quiz on Korea 2023

中學生韓國文化知識問答比賽2023

“Quiz on Korea 2023” is back! “Quiz on Korea” is a quiz competition targeting at local secondary school students. Various questions about Korea, including but not limited to Korean history, geography, food, drama & movie, and K-Pop, will be asked.

Starting from 2025, the Korean language will be offered as one of the Other Language Subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE). Expecting an increasing number of students learning the Korean language, the Center hopes to further promote Korean culture and enhance interest in Korea among local secondary students. Winning teams will be awarded with cash prizes, while all participants will be given souvenirs provided by the Center.

駐香港韓國文化院今年再度舉辦中學生韓國文化知識問答比 賽，測試香港中學生對韓國歷史、地理、飲食、電視劇及電影、 K-Pop等領域的認識及了解。

“Raon & Destiny” Minhwa Exhibition

《Raon & Destiny》民畫展覽

Raon Hong Kong will hold its first member exhibition of Minhwa in the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong. Raon Hong Kong is a Minhwa studio founded by Ms. LEE Youngae, a reporter from <Art Minhwa>.

In the exhibition, you can see different kinds of Minhwa drawn by the members of Raon, including Hwajodo (Paintings of Flowers and Birds), Munjado (Paintings of Characters), Chaekgeori (Paintings of Book and Stationary), Hwahwedo (Paintings of Flowers), Chochungdo (Drawings of Plants and Insects) and more. You can enjoy artworks with a wide diversity, based on the styles of painting of different members. Please take a close look at the paintings and find out the beauty of Minhwa in different forms when you visit the exhibition.

Jeon-ju city is located in Jeollabuk-do, a place full of combinations of traditional and modern Korean culture. Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2023 亞裔藝采2023

To promote unique cultures and artistic talents from Asian countries, each year the Leisure and Cultural Services Department collaborates with the consulates of various Asian countries in Hong Kong in staging "Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances". The programme showcases the varied cultures of Asian countries and enchants audiences with colourful folk music and dance by local ethnic art troupes to promote racial harmony. Themed "Crowning the Harvest Hues", "Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2023" will showcase the splendid diversity of cultural traditions of harvest celebration in performances, elaborate headdresses and hued costumes of Asian countries and regions.
