The 14th edition of Festive Korea, organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong (KCC) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, and supported by the Government of Hong Kong SAR, is grandly held this October and November. With the aim of promoting Korean culture and developing meaningful collaboration between Korea and Hong Kong, Festive Korea has attracted millions of people since its first launch in 2011.
This year's Festive Korea, themed “JAM Korea”, showcases a series of enriched programs. “JAM”, derived from the Korean word “잼”, encapsulates the essence of fun. Our aim is to unveil the vibrancy of Korea and the multifaceted charm of Korean culture through a diverse array of over 30 arts and cultural programs covering performing arts, visual arts, films, sports, K-Food, educational programs, and workshops.
To start the festival, the KCC is hosting the allday open marketplace “Korea Square”, featuring a multitude of engaging activities such as the unique “International Space-out Competition 2024 Hong Kong”, “Kids’ EDM Club”, along with various performances and workshops to be enjoyed throughout the day. Additionally, this year, we are thrilled to present the original Korean musical production, FindingMr.Destiny, which captivated 1.55 million audiences worldwide. The “K-POP COMMUNITY FESTIVAL” will showcase “K-Pop for Everyone”, and the exhibition “Production Design: Scene Architects Build On-Screen Worlds” will unveil the magic behind Korean movies. Furthermore, the “Korean e-Sports Festival: PUBG MOBILE Tournament 2024” promises you the thrill of exciting Korean games. There will also be a myriad of other programs for you to deeply immerse yourself in the joy of Korean culture.
Festive Korea heightens the appreciation and enjoyment of Korean arts and culture by presenting an impressive cultural feast to the Hong Kong audience.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong are honored to announce the official opening of the 14th Festive Korea, the largest and ever-growing Korean cultural festival in Hong Kong.
As we all know, cultural exchange is a crucial way to connect people across borders. Korea, a country of rich cultural heritage, has made significant efforts to share the various charms of Korean culture with other countries. The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong has also worked diligently to foster Korea’s cultural exchange with Hong Kong, one of the world’s art and cultural hubs.
Since its inception in 2011, Festive Korea has played an essential role in achieving this goal. This year’s Festive Korea aims to create a festive atmosphere where everyone can come together, enjoy themselves, and build cultural bonds. With this in mind, Festive Korea will be kick-started with “Korea Square 2024”, an open Korean culture festival welcoming all generations, including adults, teens and children alike, to come create “fun” memories together.
The festival will be followed by a range of events, including K-POP COMMUNITY FESTIVAL 2024 for K-Pop enthusiasts in Hong Kong, and the Korean musical FindingMr.Destiny, featuring the original cast in Korea. Over 30 other Korean cultural events and exhibitions, covering fine art, food, film, and sports, will further enrich our cultural experience throughout October and November.

I sincerely congratulate the opening of the 14th edition of Festive Korea.
First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Hong Kong government and all major cultural and arts departments in Hong Kong for their cooperation and support in making Festive Korea possible, as well as to all people who visited Festive Korea.
Since the establishment of the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong in January 2018, there have been various events introducing Korean culture in various fields such as performances, exhibitions, movie screenings, K-Food workshops, and K-Pop and sports related events.
In addition, active cultural exchanges between Korea and Hong Kong are taking place between the Korean Cultural Center and major cultural and arts departments in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival, Asia+ Festival, and Asia Ethnic Cultural Performances are great examples.
I am very pleased that Korea and Hong Kong are becoming closer through culture, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also do its best to further deepen cultural exchanges between Korea and Hong Kong through the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong.
This year's Festive Korea also features a variety of programs prepared for Hong Kong citizens to participate in and enjoy.
Starting from October 5th, the two-day Korea Square 2024 will be held at the Courtyard & Marketplace of PMQ, where the Korean Cultural Center is located, to kick start the cultural festival. You will be provided with unique experiences such as the International Space-out Competition originated from Korea, Korean food and pottery making, and Kids’ EDM Club. You can also enjoy K-Pop cover dances, Taekwondo performances, and Korean food culture.
Moreover, following the original musical Vanishing, which received a great response last year, Korea's representative original musical Finding Mr. Destiny will be performed in full. More than 30 programs await

First launched in 2011, Festive Korea has grown into an annual significant event in Hong Kong that showcases a wide variety of excellent artistic and cultural programmes. This event not only strengthens the bond between the two places but also deepens the understanding of Hong Kong people about the dynamic Korean culture.
Hong Kong, “Asia’s Events Capital”, is also positioned as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Leveraging the advantages of being closely connected to the world under “One country, Two systems”, we have always been making good use of the unique strengths of the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures to strengthen our connections with the global community. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with different Korean organisations to host more wonderful cultural events in the years to come.

This year’s Festive Korea brings to Hong Kong an array of dazzling cultural programmes and activities on the theme of “JAM”, Korean for “fun”. A major highlight of the Festival is the Hong Kong premiere of the widely acclaimed Korean original musical “Finding Mr. Destiny”, which has seen more than 8 500 performances. Another focus is the “K-POP COMMUNITY FESTIVAL”, which features highly dynamic and energetic dances that appeal particularly to young audiences. Also included are a film screening, a ceramic pavilion, an e-sports tournament and other activities. The programmes and activities offered are not only delightfully diverse and packed with elements of pop culture, but also epitomise the blend of creativity and vigour so characteristic of Korean culture.
Enjoying the distinctive advantage of “One Country, Two Systems” and close connection to the world, Hong Kong is fully developing into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. The sheer number of cultural mega-events held in Hong Kong is a testament to the important status of the city as a hub of cultural exchange with Asia and the world. Special thanks must go to Festive Korea for its programme arrangements in support of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s second edition of Asia+ Festival, which enables the public as well as visitors to Hong Kong to feel the charm of Asian cultures and arts in this “events capital”, and fulfils our vision of mutual learning between cultures, cultural inclusiveness and enhancement of people-to-people bonds. As a staunch partner of Festive Korea, the Department will, as in the past, make every endeavour to support the activities and performances of the Festival, and continue to promote cross-territorial exchanges and development in arts and culture.

Festive Korea, an annual event featuring an array of Korean arts and cultural activities ranging from K-Pop, music, art performances and exhibitions to Korean cuisine and e-sports, has offered diverse arts and cultural experiences to the people of Hong Kong since 2011.
Themed on “JAM” (means ‘fun’ in Korean), this year’s Festive Korea showcases nearly 30 arts and cultural events with Korean original musical Finding Mr. Destiny, the K-POP COMMUNITY FESTIVAL and the Korean Ceramic Pavilion in Fine Art Asia 2024 as highlights, bringing exciting “JAM” for the people of Hong Kong.
To promote the cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Korea, Hong Kong Arts Development Council has supported local arts practitioners to take part in arts activities in Korea through different grant schemes, helping them connect with their Korean counterparts and explore collaboration opportunities. Last year, the Council led 20 local artists to take part in the PAMS (the Performing Arts Market of Seoul), further fostering the bilateral exchange. Furthermore, the Council will present the excellent art work of Hong Kong to the Korean audiences at the Hong Kong Week@ Seoul, organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, in 2025.
Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen the tie between Hong Kong and Korea for the betterment of the arts development.

今年，「韓國十月文化節」以「JAM」（韓語：「樂趣」）為 主題，呈獻近30個多元化的文化藝術活動，重點項目有韓 國原創音樂劇《尋找完美先生》、「K-POP COMMUNITY FESTIVAL」，以及「典亞藝博2024 — 韓國陶瓷展區」等， 為香港巿民帶來目不暇給的「JAM」，實在令人期待。

Kids' EDM Club is an innovative DJ performance in Korea designed for children and parents. Kids' EDM Club's icon, DJ SEFO has performed over 1,000 shows in Korea, gaining immense popularity. Hong Kong ranks top in living pressure among the world because of its fast pace. Work and study are the major sources of pressure for both adults and teenagers. One of the best ways to relax and forget about the pressure is “space-out”.
The first International Space-out Competition was held in 2014, and this year marks its tenth anniversary. The founder and performance artist Woopsyang stated that the competition has brought significant changes to Korean society. In the past, being absent-minded was often scolded or criticized, but now it is embraced as an acceptable state. Sometimes, people simply want to do nothing or slow down their busy lives. However, societal pressures often make this difficult. The competition encourages participants to collectively take a break and embrace their absent-mindedness, allowing everyone to slow down together at the same time.
This time, you may be one of the greatest space-out humans in the world by participating in the International Space-out Competition 2024 Hong Kong. With no talking, sleeping, laughing, smartphones and any big movements in 90 mins, you may win the Space-out Competition and win the title of Space-out Champion. Let’s join and see who’s the best at doing absolutely nothing.

第一屆國際發呆比賽於2014年舉行，今年已是十週年。比賽創辦 人兼行為藝術家Woopsyang表示10年之間發呆比賽帶給韓國 社會發生了很多變化。如果說以前發呆是經常捱罵或受到指責 的行爲,那麼現在則變成需要發呆的時間。因為有時候什麼都不 想做，或者想放慢忙碌的生活節奏。但是圍繞大家的環境不會許 可。如果在同一天，大家一起停下來什麼都不做，一起發呆的話 可以放慢腳步，所以就舉辦了發呆比賽。
如果想發呆發出國際，可以參加國際發呆比賽2024香港站比賽。 90分鐘內徹底放空發呆，不准說話、睡覺、笑、玩手機、有大動作 等，勝出比賽更可獲得「發呆王」的殊榮。大家一起光明正大地 發呆吧！

In recent years, Hong Kong's Taekwondo athletes have achieved remarkable success in Asian and world-class competitions, with one of them historically qualifying for the Paris Olympics this year, fully demonstrating the strength and level of Hong Kong's Taekwondo sport.
This October, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong specially invited the renowned Korean Taekwondo Association in Hong Kong (KTAHK) to present a spectacular Taekwondo performance at Festive Korea. The KTAHK is dedicated to promoting Korean traditional martial arts locally and owns many national-level coaches and outstanding members. In this performance, they will present exquisite Taekwondo skills to the audience, fully showcasing the power and beauty of Taekwondo.
In this event, not only will the audience be able to appreciate the superb techniques of Taekwondo, but also feel the deep cultural essence embodied in this Korean traditional martial art. Let's look forward to this visual feast and witness the charm of Taekwondo together!

K-Pop has always been one of Hong Kong's favorite pop cultures. In addition to watching K-Pop artists' singing and dancing performances, K-Pop enthusiasts also practise K-Pop dance and perform in groups with likeminded friends.

The ceramic workshop, in collaboration with the Korea Ceramic Foundation, will be instructed by two Korean ceramic artists, Mr. LEE Songam and Ms. KIM Hojung, who are participating in Fine Art Asia art fair this year.
Mr. LEE Songam showcases his way of creating nontypical shaped black porcelain based on pottery wheel throwing. He will be demonstrating his flow of work at the workshop.
Ms. KIM Hojung will be sharing her artwork, FLOW Collection, Moon Jar Series, to the audience. After her demonstration, the workshop participants will have a chance to create their personal pattern with colored paper using the “Yeonli pattern” technique used in Goryeo White Porcelain making.
Don’t miss the chance to see these wonderful ceramists demonstrate their work and be part of the ceramic making experience!

“The Woman” meets a handsome man called KIM Jongwook during her journey to India. A box-office smash of “Asia's Broadway”, Korean musical Finding Mr. Destiny has been staged in over 8,500 performances worldwide and wooed 1.55 million audiences since its premiere in 2006. Three spellbinding works by Austro-German giants Haydn, Schumann and Schubert illuminate the recital by Korean piano virtuoso Sunwook KIM, prior to his concert with Hong Kong Sinfonietta on 28 Sep. As a frequent guest of prestigious orchestras and venues such as the Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Seoul Arts Centre, Sunwook KIM has established himself as one of the finest pianists in today’s music scene since winning the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2006, as the competition’s first and youngest ever and Asian winner. He will open this recital with Haydn’s sparkling Piano Sonata in E-flat, before presenting Schumann’s Davidsbündlertänze – an intimate collection of 18 riveting character pieces juxtaposing voices of impetuousness and poeticism. Schubert’s extraordinary Piano Sonata in B-flat – the last piano work he ever completed – will conclude the evening.

Since becoming the first and youngest ever and Asian winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition in its 40 years of history in 2006 at the age of 18, Korean pianist Sunwook KIM has established a stellar international career marked by his perceptive interpretations and impeccable technique. He returns to Hong Kong to perform Brahms’ exquisite Piano Concerto No 2 with Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Music Director Christoph Poppen as a conclusion of the concert where Maestro Poppen will present the Hong Kong première of Luigi Dallapiccola’s atmospheric Piccola Musica Notturna, and bring the audience an authoritative interpretation of Schumann’s Symphony No 1, “Spring”, depicting the awakening of life and jovial merriment of springtime.

The acclaimed Korean violinist Clara-Jumi KANG returns with Van Cliburn Gold Medal-winning pianist Yekwon SUNWOO.
Clara-Jumi KANG is an artist of supreme musicality, impeccable refinement and poise as borne out by the numerous awards and accolades she has received since she first burst on the scene as the winner of the Indianapolis International Violin Competition in 2010, hot on the heels of her success at the Seoul Violin Competition (2009) and the Sendai Violin Competition (2010). She toured worldwide with leading orchestras including the Munich Philharmonic and LA Philharmonic, earning accolades such as “100 Future’s most promising, influential people of Korea” (DongA Times). She was awarded the Daewon Music Award and Kumho Musician of the Year for her outstanding musical accomplishment. KANG will start her stunning recital programme with the immensely technical and emotional Bach Chaconne for solo violin. She will be then joined by Yekwon SUNWOO, who is hailed for his “firm, boldly projected, and technically faultless playing” (Chicago Classical Review), in the remarkable Weinberg Sonata No. 4, and followed by the expressive and romantic Strauss Violin Sonata.

Clockenflap, Hong Kong’s biggest international
outdoor music and arts festival, takes place at Central Harbourfront on November 29 – December 1, 2024. In collaboration with the Korea Ceramic Foundation, the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong presents the “Korean Ceramic Pavilion” booth F2 at Fine Art Asia 2024.
Fine Art Asia is recognized as Asia’s leading fine art fair by the international art community. Fine Art Asia 2024 is held in the same venue as other major autumn fine art auctions, attracting high-profile and sophisticated dealers, collectors, connoisseurs and art lovers from every corner of the world.
Artworks created by 9 renowned Korean craft artists will be available for sale at the fair, including Korean representative ceramic art pieces such as Moon Jars and celadon plates. After the fair, the “Korean Ceramic Pavilion” will be relocated and showcased at the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong in PMQ, a complex cultural space full of local craft studios to give visitors an extraordinary cultural experience.

The Silla Kingdom of Korea enjoyed close ties with the Tang dynasty of China for a long period of time. There were many Korean students studying abroad in China and the most celebrated one was CHOE Chiwon. Many historical East Asian texts and stone steles keep record of his literary works and footprints in China. His most outstanding philosophy was the “Integration of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism”, or in today’s words, “Inclusive and Diversity”.
“Science and Art Calligraphy Exhibition 2024” invites young Korean and Chinese scholars and students from various disciplines to create calligraphy arts inspired by the rarely used historical East Asian texts and stone steles, hoping that the community can reflect on the wisdom brought by CHOE Chiwon in modern society.
韓國的新羅王朝與中國的唐朝邦交深厚，韓國前往中國留學的 學生甚多，當中最著名的是崔致遠。大量東亞的古漢籍如《桂苑 筆耕集》、《孤雲先生文集》和其他石碑都記錄了其經典文學作 品及在中國各城市的足跡。崔致遠最出色的哲學思想是「三教 (儒、釋、道）融通」，即今日所指的「多元與共融」。
「科學與藝術:書藝同行展2024」邀請了來自韓國和中國不同專 業的年輕人，以崔致遠和唐朝為題，從較少人閱讀的東亞古漢籍 和石碑中選取文學作品，創作書法。希望透過藝術和文學創作， 大眾能將崔致遠的智慧在現代社會中加以應用。

The “2024 Korean Young Artists Series” showcases the works of three Korean artists: SON Donghyun, WOO Jeongsu, and KEY Min Jung.
In SON Donghyun's latest series, “Travelers among Mountains and Streams”, a combination of 10 different landscape paintings, he reinterprets classical East Asian paintings using contemporary drawing techniques, employing a graffiti method.
WOO Jeongsu's recent series, “Three Devils by the Bedside”, draws inspiration from a medieval European knight's tale plagued by insomnia caused by “three devils by his bedside”. After encountering a monk at Canterbury Cathedral, the knight's insomnia is miraculously cured. Through this work, WOO Jeongsu explores new possibilities in allegorical painting.
KEY Min Jung introduces a materialistic experimental series using glass, Hanji, and acrylic. Through experimental installations, the artist transcends the two-dimensionality of the materials, bringing narratives to life on the canvas.

孫東鉉的最新系列《Travelers among Mountains and Streams》由10幅不同的山水畫組合而成，以塗鴉的方式，用 當代繪畫技巧重新詮釋了古典東亞繪畫。
禹廷秀最近的系列作品《Three Devils by the Bedside》靈 感來自中世紀歐洲騎士的故事，該騎士因「床邊的三個惡魔」 而飽受失眠之苦。在坎特伯雷大教堂遇到一位修道士後，騎士 的失眠症奇蹟般地痊癒。透過這件作品，禹廷秀探索了寓言繪 畫的新可能性。

The word Pneuma originates from ancient Greek, meaning “breath”, also translated as “spirit” or “soul”. Each artist blends traditional culture with personal expression, presenting diverse artistic styles that embody the spirit of contemporary Korean art.
CHOI Young-Wook’s realistic depiction of the Joseon Moon Jar allows this iconic artifact to transcend medium and time, becoming pertinent to us on canvas.
Recognized for his sublime portrayals of the nature’s beauty using mother-of-pearl and wood, KIM Duck-Yong captivates the audience with the harmonious scenery he creates.
KIM Young-Hun provides a modern interpretation of Korean landscape paintings, reflecting the dynamic frequency of the digital world through the traditional Hyuk-pil technique.
