A:Therehavebeenso manytalentedmusicians whohavegivenmelittle nuggetsofwisdomalong theway.I’vebeenperformingforabout6years andsomeofthebestadvice Ievergotwastostopcomparingmyselftoothers.It’s naturalwhenyou’refirst startingouttodoso,but afterawhileyourealizethat you’rerunningaoneman raceagainstyourselfand yougettodecidetheterms ofwhatsuccessistoyou.

A:Iusedtothrowup sometimesbeforeshows whenIfirststartedout.Butit goesawaywithdoingitoften. I’veprobablyplayednearly 400liveperformancesof somekindatthispoint,andI distinctlyrememberwhenI realizedIwasn’tsupernervousanymore.Theonlyway toconquerfearistorepeatedlyfaceituntilyoudon’t feelitanymore.

Q:Whatadvicewould youhaveforsomeone wantingtofollowinyour footsteps?

A:Iwouldsaythree things.First,don’tcompare yourselftoothers,but rathertrytolearnsomethingfromeveryone.Nobodylikessomeonewho talksdownonothermusiciansorplacesthemon pedestals.Second,youcan neverbeoverprepared.If youwanttodowhatIormy peersdo,you’llhaveto practicefrequentlyandintenselywithgreatintention. Manyarenotpreparedfor thedriveittakestoperform

livemusic.Finally,make surewhateveryoudoor createstimulatesyouartisticallyandisauthentictowho youare.Standbyyourwork withprideandconviction.
