Erickson Down Under Born Reckless

Before I ever got into the legal field, I lived in Richmond, Virginia, as a rowdy teenager. I love to reminisce on the wild years of my youth because it humbles me and makes me feel proud of who I grew to become. Back then, I had no respect for the law. I drank underage, I experimented with drugs, and I broke the rules any chance I got. It wasn’t until I found myself injured in a terrible car accident that I cleaned my act up for good. In fact, it was my car accident lawyer who helped me get back on the right path and inspired me to become a paralegal. You can click this link to learn about how car accident lawsuits like this typically go, but I’ll tell you my experienced firsthand.

The Night of the Crash

I was driving home from a long night of football practice when a speeding car came around a large curve. It was a foggy fall night, and the driver must not have seen me. We both tried to swerve, but neither of us could go anywhere. It was a head-on collision, and I was lucky to survive. What made me luckier than ever, however, is that the crash happened on a night where I hadn’t been doing anything reckless. There were so many nights in my high school years where I drove while drinking, and none of those nights resulted in accidents, yet the night I was driving sober and alert, I got hit by another negligent driver. I felt as though I was injured because of karma, but God was also sending me a warning sign. He was saying, “You need to change your behavior now before you kill yourself or someone else with your actions.” I took the message loud and clear.

Everything Happens for a Reason I hired a lawyer to take my case, and my lawyer also became my mentor. I completely changed my behavior and graduated with great grades. I went on to study law in college and then became a paralegal. I also got to work as a private investigator and did many other odd jobs within the legal field. That’s where the real adventure began, and I have to be thankful for that driver. If it weren’t for that crash, I might have never snapped out of my wild phase and gotten on the right path. Looking back now as I’m retired on the beach in Australia, I can see that everything happens for a reason. We may not know the reason right away, but it always reveals itself.
