Tyres: essential to your safety Tyres are the only point of contact between your motorcycle and the ground, so looking after their quality and performance is crucial. the valve must only be considered as a partial and temporary solution.

CHOOSING TYRES Always seek professional guidance when fitting tyres that do not conform with your motorcycle's original tyres. Never use a tyre that is incorrectly inflated, at a speed which exceeds its speed rating or to carry a load that exceeds its load index. Tyres bearing the marking 'NHS' (Not for Highway Service) or 'FOR COMPETITION USE' may not be used on public highways. INSPECTION Tyres must be closely inspected at regular intervals. Uneven wear may be the result of incorrect inflation pressures, overloading or ill-suited mechanical adjustments. Using an underinflated or overloaded tyre for a prolonged period of time may lead to irreversible damage which could have serious consequences, even if that tyre is subsequently inflated to the correct pressure. Tyres should be examined regularly, paying particular attention to: - the tread (look out for embedded foreign bodies, cuts, localised damage and uneven wear); - the sidewalls (look out for impact damage, cuts, cracking and abnormal deformation); - the bead area (check for signs of wear or damage to the rim). If in doubt, have the inside and exterior of your tyre inspected by a specialist at the earliest opportunity. WEAR The principal function of the tread is to ensure contact with the ground. As a tyre wears, the grip it provides diminishes, so it is important to adapt your riding style accordingly (reduce your speed). Check your tyres regularly for wear by inspecting the height of the tread blocks. Make sure that wear is even. Tyre wear, and consequently the tyre's life expectancy, depends on a number of factors, some of which are within the rider's control, such as inflation pressure, load, speed and riding style (braking and acceleration). Others are outside of the rider's control – e.g. the type of terrain (sand, rocks, mud, etc.) and temperature – and may call for the rider to adapt his or her riding style accordingly. It is important to remember that excessive tread wear may be the result of a mechanical problem (a warped rim, poor damping, play in the steering or a wheelframe alignment problem, etc.). Any one of these factors can significantly influence tyre life, while the combination of more than one factor will result in considerably higher rates of wear.

REPAIRS In the event of a puncture, only specialists have the required expertise to undertake the necessary inspection of the tyre's interior and exterior with a view to deciding whether or not a tyre is reparable. MIXING FRONT/REAR TYRES All our recommendations and advice exclusively concern the fitment of MICHELIN motorcycle tyres at the front and rear.

TYRE PRESSURES For reasons of safety, and in order to optimise the life expectancy of a tyre, it is essential to ensure that it is correctly inflated at all times. Running with correctly inflated tyres in accordance with the motorcycle manufacturer's recommendations also makes a significant contribution to straight-line and cornering handling, including under braking and at low speeds. Running underinflated tyres can lead to premature wear, irreversible damage and, occasionally, a sudden loss of air. Air is gradually lost from tyres. It is therefore essential to systematically check tyre pressures before use. When checking the pressures once a journey has started, remember that the tyres will be hot. This causes the tyre pressures to rise,so never release air from a tyre that has just been used. If the pressure is found to be lower than the recommended value, it is necessary to add air. Bear in mind, however, that the correct pressure of a hot tyre is 0.3 bar more than the pressure recommended for the same tyre when cold. After checking, remember to refit the valve cap which, along with the valve core itself, ensures an air-tight seal. Non-compliance with recommended tyre pressures is only permitted within the framework of competitions officially sanctioned by a qualified sporting federation. TYRE FITTING AND REMOVAL Fitting and removing tyres are jobs for professionals. Improper tyre fitment or removal may damage a tyre and jeopardise the rider's safety. When replacing a tyre, the following precautions must be observed: - check the condition of the tyre and rim; - replace the original tyre with a tyre of the same size; - check that the speed rating and load index are adapted to the use to which the tyre is to be put; - in the case of certain types of motorcycle, ensure that any fitment recommendations specified by the manufacturer are complied with.If in doubt, refer to the owner's manual or seek advice from an approved dealer of the make of motorcycle in question. When fitting new tyres, it is recommended to replace the valve and valve cap which play an essential role in ensuring an air-tight seal. The injection of a puncture sealant via

HANDLING AND STORAGE Always store tyres in a ventilated, dry, temperature-controlled place, away from direct sunlight and protected from adverse weather conditions. • Keep tyres away from chemicals, solvents and hydrocarbons likely to affect their properties. • Keep tyres away from sharp objects that may damage the tyre (metal, wood, etc.). • Keep tyres away from sources of heat and electrical discharges. MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE • MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE is intended for off-road competition use only, and exclusively in association with MICHELIN tyres. We do not recommended the use of MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE in conjunction with other brands of tyre. • MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE is marked 'NHS' (Not for Highway Service). As a consequence, a motorcycle equipped with MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE may not be used on public highways. • MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE must not be stored for long periods at temperatures in excess of 30°C. Temperatures in excess of 40°C should be avoided at all times. • MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE has a maximum life expectancy of six months after its initial fitment to the motorcycle. Its life expectancy is significantly impaired by intensive use. • When new, MICHELIN BIBMOUSSE is equivalent to an inflation pressure of 0.9 bar. This pressure gradually diminishes with time leading to the necessity for it to be replaced. • The life expectancy of MICHELIN BIB-MOUSSE may vary significantly as a function of the intensity of the use to which it is put and of the discipline for which it is employed. For example, its life expectancy is shorter when used for motocross than for enduro. • Before using BIB-MOUSSE at high speeds, it is recommended that the MICHELIN tyre/BIB-MOUSSE should first be gradually warmed up at moderate speeds.

Failure to comply with the above recommendations may impair the performance of the vehicle, lead to handling problems and/or tyre malfunctions of a type that could endanger the safety of the user and third parties. Michelin can in no case be held responsible for damages resulting from and/or due to use that does not comply with its recommendations.
