Dignity in old age | Treating knee pain

What isArthritis?

Arthritis is the inflammation in one or more joints and it can cause severe pain and joint stiffness in the patient. This can worsen with age but a lot of patients tend to live with it. But proper treatment can relieve the pain. Here is the story of Mrs. Vijayalakshmi who overcame arthritis with the help of knee replacement surgery.

Treating knee pain

Mrs. Vijayalakshmi took upon the maintenance of a music hall for about 12 years after she lost her husband. Since then he has been leading a very active life. She had been suffering from arthritis since the age of 50 but suddenly it became hard for her to even walk because of the pain. She started to wonder whether she would be bedridden for the rest of her life. This made her feel depressed.
Mrs. Vijayalakshmi consulted with conventional orthopedicians who advised against knee surgery which made her feel even more disappointed. She started to comment that death would be better to come soon.
This type of thought is quite common among patients with knee pain since they slowly lose confidence and their purpose in their life. Many older patients are told that they cannot have knee replacement surgery because they are too old or because of health issues. But proper knee pain treatment can give their independence and dignity back.

Mrs. Vijayalakshmi visited Kauvery Hospital where she was advised to go for knee replacement surgery which she happily agreed to. She was admitted to the hospital two days before surgery and got her heart in good condition. Then the surgery was done using advanced technology and modern surgical equipment. Mrs. Vijayalakshmi is now almost 80 and now she can continue her normal activities.
