TEAM WORK To be a team you have to know first there is no ‘I’ in team so if something goes wrong it is the whole team that is responsible and if something goes right the whole team is responsible for it. The first thing you need to make a good team is Good leadership in every team there should be a leader not to control everything but to make sure that everything is going to plan by keeping within the 1me limit and knowing everyone’s role and keep them on target. Another key thing with working in a team is

An Example of people that work well collabora1ve is Dolce & Gabbana they are a fashion collabora1ve fashion design group Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana

Dolce & Gabanna

An example of two people who work collabora1ve in fashion Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana have worked together in fashion for 27 years. They are a luxury fashion house who have been designing clothes collabora1vely since the early 80’s what made them the great duo that they are today is the face there voice is one they agree on almost everything and they have been successful for this long so it shows that to work as a team an be success full you need to agree with your team members and in voice together as a team not on your own. What makes them work well as a team is that they both share the same ideas and when one has an idea another idea bounces of the other making the ini1al idea bigger and beWer. I think that is something that is important as a group to be able to share ideas and concepts.

Les Twins Les twins are a dynamic dance duo who choreography and model. There main strength in dancing is the consistency of this new style of hip hop and the moves are really precise and they both move in 1me with one another as they are twins this isn't something that’s very hard but being twins is what makes there duo unique. I think that them being brothers is one thing in which makes there dancing impeccable but also I feel that they as brothers have to rely on each other and trust each other also pay a lot of aWen1on to each others moves and body language to achieve the best they can do with there dance moves. They have dance along side some of the greatest ar1sts and have a long 1me running with Beyoncé as they are her only male dancers in her group for her concerts including all band members whom are female.

Video clip : Les twins performance @ HH’s 2012 World hip hop dance compe11on In that clip it shows that even thought they are doing the same moves and at the same 1me and they look exactly the same as there twins, they both have different characteris1cs in there dance moves Larry adds more of a cheeky quirk to his moves ad Laurent is more precise and defined with his moves have a more serious facial expression. I think this shows that a collabora1ve ar1sts can performed at the same pace and outcome but with different styles.

Friday 18th april 2012

Today is the first day of our new project. The theme of our project is ‘REVEAL & CONCEL’ We were all given a choice of how we would like to interpret the theme I decided to interpret the theme in Fashion & tex1les. We were then put into groups with people that also want to do similar things. We then as a group had an ini1al discussion on what we were each going to contribute into the group. I was elected team leader as I have the most experience in tex1les and know my way around a sewing machine. Also I am joint communicator with Louise Gunn and our role is to talk to people and explain what we are doing within our project.

19th & 20th April …What We’ve decided to do … Now we have received the brief, We decided that we would make sub theme for the original theme, doing a small brain storm we decided to concentrate on Decades and culture. We came up with the idea to create garments and as well working on garments that have already been made. For women we decided that we were going to work the idea in three parts the Head, Torso & Lower half. We decided that as a cultural aspect of the ouhit we thought about using the Niqab. A niqab is is a cloth which covers the face, worn by some Muslim women as part of sartorial hijab. They wear them as apart of their religion and of respect for them self and they see a niqab as haya which means “ Keep private what should be private” so the only people that need to see there face without the niqab is Their family.. For the torso we decided to just have the body on show but the actual breast covered which is revealing and concealing. For the lower half we decided to make a long maxi style skirt and embroied into the skirt and print different paWerns like and oriental, African and Asian.

Another idea we had for women which was to create a mesh dress which is see through and a paWern on the dress just to conceal the more private parts of the body (lady bits). I found a image in a book ‘The liWle black dress’ the designer is unknown but the dress gave me some inspira1on and it really demonstrates the theme Reveal and conceal. Just to give us a bit more of a challenge we decided to create not just female garments/ ouhits but male ones as well For a male ouhit we decide to concentrate more on the decades and our interpreta1on of the theme is to conceal the past and reveal the future. We decided to make a garment where we take a ouhit from the future and sew it to a ouhit from the past for example: Present day ouhit: -‐ Jeans -‐ Top Past day ouhit: -‐ brightly coloured shirt ( 70’s) -‐ flares (70’s)

Another idea we had for a male ouhit was to make a shirt loudly coloured on and then put a denim jacket or waist coat over it with studs on it.

Today we started out ini1al research stage, we got books from the library and we started to get some informa1on on fashion in different cultures and decades. We each allocated our self’s a certain thing to research. I was allocated the role of researching the Caribbean culture and fashion.

Today we con1nued on our research and found a few paWerns which represented Indian culture. We looked at the Asian culture and we came across henna, which is a paWern in which Indian ladies draw on there hand the ink is a brownish colour and looks a bit like this:

We came up with the idea that we could use parts of tradi1onal henna paWerns on the skirt we are going to make.

This week was mainly focused on our research and genng our designs perfect so that we could concentrate on the prac1cal work next week. We came up with that we would make a garment that people from all different cultures wear in the end we decided to use a skirt. Each culture had a different type of skirt some long some short some coloured there are all different types. We started drawing sketches of different style skirts we came up with one skirt and it was inspired by our 60’s theme as the mini skirt was invented in that 1me so we were going to make a mini skirt with to panels on the side revealing two different paWerns on panels. Another skirt we came up with was a long maxi skirt which would drop to the ground and have a Asian paWern on the boWom of it or a paWern of all the cultures in twined in to each other. We had another idea for a skirt which was short at the front revealing the legs and long at the back and using African print material and adding some embroidery on to it. We then decided to make some paper versions of two of the main skirts:

Mini skirt The mini skirt is a skirt with a hemline well above the knees – generally no longer than 10 cm, The popularity of miniskirts peaked in the "Swinging London" of the 1960s, but its popularity is since s1ll commonplace among many women, mostly teenagers, preteens, and young adults. Before that 1me, short skirts were only seen in sport clothing, such as skirts worn by female tennis players and cheerleaders. They were also seen on elder women and this

Aper a quick delibera1on we did some drawings of different skirts we would like to make.

Aper looking at the different designs we looked at the pros and cons of making the skirt we all decided to make a skirt that had panels that would show different paWerns but with the 1me limit we have we decided to do something s1ll complex but quicker to make to fit our 1me limit. We decided to make a aqua Klingon peplum skirt. History The peplum skirt (or dress) has popped up in fashion at various points in history, most noteably during the 40s, when this look was all the rage. The peplum fashion faded in the 1950s but came back with a vengeance in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The peplum is the layer at the top of the skirt which flares out. The actual peplum is not just used on skirts but have also been used on Dresses and even leggins. You might typically see a flared peplum with a skirt that also flared, and more commonly saw the fiWed peplum with skirts that were narrow or pencil skirts. The kind of peplum we have decided to use is called a Aqua Klingon peplum skirt. Instead of the peplum going all the way round there is a panel down the middle which cuts it off and has the peplum in two halves and it look a liWle like this:

This week We took the ini1a1ve and decided to go to green street to buy our material we were going to use to make the Aqua Klingon skirt. Firstly we made a decision on what colour’s we were going to have the skirt and we got the Lola who is the designer to draw up a aqua Klingon skirt. I then came across a print on the front of a book and decided to use this in as a print on our skirts peplums: aper drawing it out and altering and manipula1ng the paWern to suit our skirt I gave it to Lola to incorporate it in her design and she came up with this: We also decided to use the same material and paWern for the niqab we are going to make. Aper seeing the design we thought about doing the paWern on the peplum in black and red. decided that we would make the skirt with white material and print on it with black paint. Aper we went to Greenstreet when we got back to college the next day I got on illustrator and created the design so we could print it out and put it on a screen as we decided to do the print using the screen prin1ng technique to print on the peplums. Even though we decided to do the prints in black I did a mock up of what it would look like in red and black.

Print Making With the process of crea1ng the prints I did a lot of the prac1cal work applying the ink and transferring it to the fabric. I did most of the prints on the skirt peplums and Louise did the prints on the niqab. One problem we had was that the ink did not come thought the screen perfectly every 1me so aper I finished doing all the prints I had to go over it with a paint brush which did take up some of the 1me we had. Another problem we came across was that the ink would spread and bled on the fabric which meant changing the fabric completely and star1ng from scratch.

My role with making the skirt With making the skirt I Had to first create a paWern. I created a paWern from scratch and pined it onto the fabric, we decided that I was going to model the skirt so I made it to my size. To make the paWern I did it in five parts, two peplums, Three panels at the front and Two back panels. The paWern it one of the hardest parts of making the skirt because everything had to be in scale with the other. Aper cunng out the paWerns I s1tched all the pieces together and

These are some of the sketches that Louise and Lola had done to represent what we were thinking of going to the shirt, There was many ways that we could have customized it and these were some of our favorites.

Niqab For the Niqab aper Louise did the prints on it I gave the responsibility of s1tching it and perfec1ng it to Susmita. She had to sew the edges and 1dy it up. She faced one difficulty which was that the niqab had not been cut out neatly so she had to re do that then con1nue to sew so it took longer to get the final outcome.

70’S Shirt

For the men's ouhit we decided to just get a shirt and customize it with material with a 70’s paWern So when we went to Green street in addi1on to genng fabric for the Skirt we got some Floral colourful fabric for the shirt. As a group we decided on what material would suit it most as once we purchased it there's no turning back. Just like with the skirt once we got back to college we started making the paWern, as team leader I set this task to Susmita and Louise and this is what it looked liked:

Final outcome

This is the final out come of the skirt and Niqab there was only on problem with the skirt and that was the skirt was a liWle to small for me so the peplums did not flare out the way that we had intended them to other than that one fault the skirt was a success.

Final outcome This is the final outcome of the shirt this was very successful I gave the duty to Louise to customize the shirt and she di so very good the finish was very 1dy from the outside but she did come across on difficulty which was that the tension on her sewing machine broke and the thread from the bobbin had tangled up so on the interior of the shirt is messy. Working in a group There are many things that are good and bad about working within a group use as a group came across many of these difficul1es. One thing we didn’t have much trouble with was what our final outcome would be and what we were going to produce as a group. We all did s1ck to what we were allocated at the beginning of the task. Another thing about working with a group was that you have to rely on each other for certain things and when one person doesn’t show up of is late it inconveniences the whole team not just them we experienced this may 1mes throughout the project. Also team work is the utmost IMPORTANT thing with working in a group you have to work together in order to finish things and I feel that we did work as a team to complete this task we all had our own allocated du1es but we did some1mes work together to complete certain things for example the prints on the skirt. Overall I think that it was a good outcome at the end of the project we completed Three fashion items and we did so as a group, we worked well as a team and I am proud of we have done.

My Views on collabora?ve work.

Unlike dolce and Gabbana we as a group were unable to come up with a final idea we could all agree on quite late in the project which didn’t leave us much 1me to create the final outcome. Even though the outcome of my work was a success I wouldn't’t like to do another collabora1ve project as I don’t like relying on other people to do work and I feel that for a lot of the work I just had to do it my self as no one else was really contribu1ng what with people not turning up of not doing the collabora1ve work and doing other projects I feel that in this projects out come was a success but as a team I feel we lack certain skills like communica1on. If I had the op1on to do this project again (fashion) I would choose to do so independently.

Evalua1on I feel that overall the final outcome of this project was a success and was done to the standard of quality I thought we as a team would have a achieved as a first garment for many of the other people in my team I feel we had a good outcome for botht the shirt and the skirt. What worked well with the skirt was the screen printed paWern which we created using adobe illustrator, as this was the first 1me I had used it I feel that the paWern was resembled to the image drawn and came out and beWer than I expected. I feel that this paWern also worked well with the Asians cultured them we had as I included a lot of curves and circles and symmetry which I feel a lot of Asian paWerns have especially with the henna designs in which the paWern I created was based upon. What worked well with the shirt was the paWerned material in which we choose to use I feel that the floral effect and the bold colours really give a 70’s feel to the shirt which was the ini1al concept so I feel that we well executed the shirt and completed it to par with the skirt. I feel that the crea1ve boundaries were crossed will making this garment for everyone in my team as none od use had ever made a garment with so much detail from scratch before. My personally my crea1ve boundaries we pushed as I use illustrator and by the end I was able to show others in my team how to use it and comfortable use it myself. Our ideas on the theme Reveal and conceal originally were very border line and didn’t explore much but as we decided to take a cultural and a popular decided we were able to explore amore broad topic and idea for our project. I feel that with the culture being the idea for the skirt and as the photographs stood they would really raise ques1ons amongst the Asian community as women are not supposed to expose their skin but this is what we was trying to start as I am reveling my body I and s1ll concealing my face so that something is s1ll pure. With the shirt the concept was to revel colour and paWern as to it just being a plain white shirt it reveal a 1me and a culture that people of my age maybe wouldn't’t be aware of the social and poli1cal impact was of the 70’s. I think that the the choice of collabora1ve ar1sts really helped us to work as a team with this project because they show that togetherness and considera1on for others is important in crea1ng something amazing cause if there’s nega1ve energy then you get a nega1ve out come and if there is posi1vity then you get a posi1ve outcome. All in all I am very happy with the final outcome with this project and I ini1ally enjoyed working as a team but with more people I feel means harder work as you have to learn to join together to convey ideas and a lot of the 1me people disagree with one another. Towards the end we did come together and was able to finish of the garments and photograph them and because of this I feel that the outcome was shown to a standard that I am happy with the construc1on was well thought out and it shows with the final garments. If I was to go back on this project again I would go more into depth with the 70’s inspired shirt and maybe create a ouhit instead of just a shirt to give more impact with the style of the garment and look into Ossie Clarks work with fashion and how he was able to create the different shapes for women's clothing also the paWerns of Zandra Rhodes to influence brighter and bolder colours.
