NEW YORK QUALIFICATION CRITERIA UPDATE Anyone can qualify for New York! If you’ve only recently joined the business, you’re still in a great position to qualify. In fact, you’ll have prospects out there, who haven’t even joined yet, that will be able to join us on this amazing destination.

However, to make it easier for our 2011 starters, you still must do the minimum of £2500 retail and have eight activations, BUT you can do this at any time over the course of the qualification. The Period 3 deadline does not apply.”

To help our new 2011 starters, the qualification requirements have been amended to ensure everyone has the best possible chance of qualifying for a trip of a lifetime.

So, if you join in 2011, you must:

We spoke to Director of Network Development, Michael Khatkar about the amended criteria: “Currently, the requirements for qualification state that you must do a minimum of £2,500 retail over the qualification period and half of that (£1,250) needs to be completed by the end of Period 3. You must also have a minimum of eight activations, each doing 250BP or more and four of these must also be completed by the end of Period 3.

We know the prospect of taking your business online can be overwhelming. In the past few months, we’ve lost count of the amount of people who have said to us: “I’d like to use social media to help my business, but I just don’t know where to start.” However, some of these are the same people who use social media all the time – Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, they’re all forms of social media.

We’re not going to kid you that social media is an instant results tool that will transform your team-building and customer base immediately. It takes time to establish your reputation on the net and build your social network. However, it is becoming increasingly important for small businesses like yours to create a presence on the Internet. So let’s take it one step at a time…

WHAT IS SOCIAL MEDIA? Regular media is typically a one-way street. You can read a newspaper or listen to a report on television, but there is a limited ability to give your thoughts on the matter in a public way.

Social media, on the other hand, is a two-way street that gives you the ability to communicate too. You can share content, personal opinions, swap different perspectives and insights into current issues and so on.

Social networking is a large internet conversation that’s happening now. Do you not want to be part of that conversation?

WHY SHOULD I USE IT? Social Networking is riding quite a wave at this point in time. There are more than 26 million users of Facebook in the UK and 3.5 million users of Twitter. YouTube sees around 48.2 million users visit its site regularly, while LinkedIn has approximately 4 million users in the UK. These users are your customers, your prospects and people who are going to see your business and spread the word.

By using a social networking site, you are inviting others to find out more and to trust you and your brand. You will be coming into contact with everyone – from those who are looking for the ultimate way to poach an egg to others who have lost their jobs and need a way to pay their bills and fast! The potential for social networking for Kleeneze is huge.

Twitter and Facebook continue to be two of the best social media platforms to share your updates, primarily because they have the largest number of users. However, YouTube is fantastic for getting the word out there (type in ‘how to kill moles’ and see how many hits Gavin Scott’s video has!).

And blogs, Flickr and LinkedIn are all popular ways of sharing your thoughts, pictures and solutions too.

It’s up to you which area you concentrate on and over time, as your confidence grows, you’ll probably find yourself using more than one.

However, for the basics, we’ll be focussing on Facebook and Twitter.

HOW DO I GET STARTED? Out of all of the social networking sites, Facebook is possibly the easiest to use and where you’ll find the majority of your warm list.

So, let’s get started!

1. Set up your Facebook profile.

Visit www.facebook.com and fill in your details in the ‘sign in’ section.

3. Find your friends When you first start using Facebook, you will be asked if you want Facebook to invite your friends. If you want it to, it can automatically access your email contact list and invite all those on there to become your friend on Facebook. Alternatively, you can manually search for them using the search tool at the top of the page.

4. Become a fan of Kleeneze As of last month, Kleeneze HQ started its own fan page and now has over 1,200 fans. On here you will find communication from HQ, inspiration from other fans of the page, new Kleeneze products, photos and videos of events and lots more.

To become a fan, search for Kleeneze. Once you’ve found the page, click the ‘like’ button. Every time our page is updated, you’ll be informed on the News feed (a constantly updated list of stories from people and pages that you follow on Facebook, which runs down the centre column of your home page) of your Facebook page.

5. Share the love!

Fill in your education, previous workplaces etc – anything that makes it easy for your friends to find you.

Otherwise, use it to keep yourself and others motivated.

Comment on the posts, share your tips, make friends and generally become part of our great Kleeneze community.

Twitter is a different kettle of fish to Facebook. It’s an instantaneous sharing of ideas and a quick way to get information out and answers back in. The service allows you to follow people and be followed by people. The people you follow will form your network and their updates will appear on your Twitter homepage. The people who follow you have chosen to have you in their network and see your updates. However, you don’t need to follow everyone who follows you.

1. Set up your Twitter profile Visit www.twitter.com and click on the sign up button. You’ll be taken to a screen that will ask you for your details such as the username you want and your password. Pick a username that will be easy for people to find you under.

Each time you find someone you want to follow take a look at who they are following. Add anyone who you want in your network.

3. Start tweeting!

Your tweets go in the box under the question ‘What are you doing?’ and it must be 140 characters or less.

If you want to reply to something that someone in your network has said, put the @ symbol before their name and it will direct your message straight to them. For instance if EWB has asked what your tip for New York is, you would put something like: @KlzEWB I’m watching the New York DVD every day. On Twitter.com, a reply button will be visible when you hold your cursor over a message. Clicking this will add the @ automatically.

2. Find your friends Exactly as Facebook does, Twitter can (only if you wish it to) access your email contact list and invite everyone in it to follow you on Twitter.

In order to add more friends, use the ‘find people’ tab at the top of your page. From HQ, you can follow the likes of EWB (KlzEWB), Michael Khatkar (Michael_Khatkar), Jamie Stewart (MrJamie_Stewart), Lloyd Brown (lloydwbrown) and our Kleeneze New York blog (KleenezeNYC2011).

It’s not just us humble mortals that are on there either. You can follow everyone from Sir Alan Sugar to Sesame Street; from Lilly Allen to Downing Street!

If someone has said something that you’d like all your followers to see, you can ‘re-tweet it’. Again, if you hover your cursor over the message, the retweet option will appear. Alternatively, you can write RT before the username and others will know that you are retweeting.

4. Posting links Sometimes, you’ll want your followers to visit a particular article (ie, A piece on soaring redundancy figures on the BBC, a new blog on the New York website or even your own website where appropriate). For this, you may need to shorten the link to keep within your 140-character limit. Visit a site such as tinyurl http://tinyurl.com or btyurl http://bit.ly, paste in your link and it will give you a shortened one to use in Twitter.

EWB SOCIAL MEDIA SPECIAL… WHAT SHOULD I BE AWARE OF WHEN IT COMES TO SOCIAL NETWORKING? • Social media is just that – social. People are using this recreationally, so be aware of bombarding them with business messages, as they may get irritated and either hide or stop following you! Often just saying something like, I’ve nearly won that trip to New York or I’ve made an extra £100 this week is enough to pique people’s interests. Think quality not quantity!

• Talk to your readers like you would talk to real people in professional situations. Don’t be afraid to bring in your own personality and say what’s on your mind. Consider content that’s open-ended and invites response. Encourage comments. You can also broaden the conversation by linking to others who are blogging about the same topic and allowing your content to be shared or syndicated.

• Don’t be pushy. If you receive any negative comments from friends or followers, don’t get drawn into an argument. Deal with comments calmly and rationally. In the same respect, if you receive positive comments be friendly and helpful and not overly forceful. This is building your reputation with a possible audience of millions! You want your business to be one that people trust and feel as though they can rely on.

• Remember, this is part of your business like any other. Would you spend all day flyering when you had catalogues to collect? No! Treat it like you would any other business activity – give it the time it deserves and then move on to other things.

• Share, share, share! It’s the only way to build your network and spread the word!

IMPORTANT! Up until now, we have all been adhering to the DSA Code of Business Conduct when it comes to advertising and marketing. However from 1 March, everyone must now also comply with something called CAP (Code of Advertising Practice, Sales Promotion and Direct Marketing).

This means, when it comes to anything you’re putting out into a public arena – even your emails and status updates – you must do the following: • Be honest, truthful and capable of being substantiated. So, if you’re going to say something, make sure you can back it up, especially when it comes to earnings • Do Not imply you’re employing anyone, as this is a business where you work for yourself and not a boss. Ensure you advertise a business opportunity and not a job Please see pages 8 to 9 of your Business Manual – Operations and Procedures (booklet 4) for a full run-down of what you need to take note of. However, please pay particular attention to these points: 1. No form of advertising should bring Kleeneze into disrepute 2. Everything bearing the Kleeneze name must carry the words ‘Independent Distributor’ on it 3. No references to imply territories are to be used, e.g. the words ‘local’, ‘established’, ‘your’, ‘area’ or ‘regular’.

4. No reference should be made to activity in any country unless Kleeneze has announced that Distributors may sponsor there 5. You must not attempt to solicit any members of other networks that are competitors of Kleeneze
