DEAREST READERS,
With this issue, we’re thrilled to celebrate 19 amazing years of our paper crafting journey together! As we look back on nearly two decades of creativity and community, I’m bursting with pride over all we’ve achieved. More importantly, I’m excited for what’s still to come!
First, a huge thank you to our incredible team. Creative Scrapbooker has become a true beacon of creativity. This is because behind every page, throughout the Village of Inspired People Club (VIP Club), and across our website and social media, our team’s passion and dedication leave their marks every day. Their commitment to excellence allows us to deliver inspiration and joy to your crafting spaces.
Equally important are the friends we have made along the way—our readers, contributors, and our awesome “Villagers.” Whether you’ve been with us from the beginning or joined us along the way, you’ve shaped this magazine. Your shared love for paper crafting has been our greatest motivation. We've grown not just as a publication, but as a community of passionate creators. Your enthusiasm has been the fuel that keeps us going.
Over the years, we’ve seen trends come and go, celebrated milestones, and pushed the boundaries of paper crafting. But at the heart is our shared love of creativity, real-life stories, and admiration for each other’s work.
Celebrating
Years
Here’s to 19 fabulous years of creativity and connection. We wouldn’t be here without you. We’re excited for what’s next. Bring on the new ideas, new projects, and new friendships!
With a big hug full of thanks, Katharina

What do you do for work? This is one of the first questions we ask when meeting someone new. It makes sense, as the average person spends about 36 hours per week working (even more for stay-at-home moms), and many have part-time or volunteer work as well.
Considering that work is such a huge part of our everyday lives, how many photos have you captured over the years of your work?
If someone looked in your scrapbooks or through your photos decades from now, would they find any evidence of what you did for work? Would they see where you worked, the people you worked with, or even the type of work you did?
Spring
I’ve recently pivoted into corporate workshops and training as my main work and want to be sure to capture myself not only in action, but even in my new “power suit,” which I wear to boost my confidence as a fun side detail (Figure 1).
Spring heralds a return to colour as Earth sheds her sparkling white shroud and invites greener pursuits. Impatient gardeners armed with seed catalogues and dreams of a bountiful harvest emerge into the warming sunshine to turn and ready the soil. Farms and forests explode with new life, fulfilling that timeless promise of renewal and regeneration. Everyone is excited to cheer this new season, new growth, and new memories in the making! Whether your spring is snowy, muddy, verdant, or rainy, this seasonal gallery of all things spring will delight and inspire you!

Figure 2
Sadly, when I consider all the assorted work I’ve done since my first job at about age 14 cleaning pianos and organs, I have so few photos to show for it! I went digging through old photo albums and found a few (Figure 2), but many of my assorted jobs over the decades are missing (phone solicitor, landscaping, shoe saleslady, secret shopper, etc.).
What about your spouse or your children? I admit to sneaking some photos of my now-grown children to document their work for them (someday they’ll thank me!). For example, my daughter works part-time as a bartender, with her main job in a research lab (Figure 3), and my son worked his way up from fixing windshields to managing a team of students (Figure 4: they all dressed up like him for Halloween!)
Even just one photo can trigger the memories and stories, so be sure to capture (and sneak if you have to!) photos of the assorted work and jobs present in your family.

As scrapbookers, we love to document all the little details in life—special moments that capture our hearts, observations and life lessons, milestones and celebrations. But there is something precious about commemorating bucket list events—those events that we hold in our hearts and work hard to achieve, goals that go beyond everyday routines and are often once-in-a-lifetime happenings. Meeting someone that inspires you, working for years on a goal and then knocking it out of the park, saving, planning, and finally taking a special trip. These bucket list items colour our measured lives and create lasting memories and so are deserving of extra special scrapbook pages. This gallery of extraordinary and meaningful events is inspiring both for your creative and life goal aspirations—enjoy!

‘Tis the season to make handmade cards for those you care about! What I love about this art is that while we’re creating a gift for someone we love, we also give ourselves the gift of joy and fun.
Using beautiful stamps and dies— like these from one of my favorite companies, Unity Stamp Co.—along with ink and cardstock, you can create something that someone will treasure for years.
I’ve been collecting Unity Rubber Stamps for years, and it’s a collection I truly
cherish. Every stamp, text image, and die I’ve bought from them is something I look forward to using. A word of warning: When you visit their website, not only will you find their stamps and dies, but also so many samples that you’ll be flooded with ideas. Your creative heart will start racing at all the options.
Their detailed stamps and dies aren’t just for cards—you can use them for any paper project, including scrapbooking. A card is like a smaller scrapbook page that’s been folded and given to someone you love. When I make a scrapbook
page to match my card, I just make the card bigger, don’t fold it, and add photos.
The card we’re sharing here includes easy techniques that can be used again and again for all sorts of projects—just change the images and text. Unity has tons of choices for all occasions!
Merry Christmas, everyone! Be sure to visit Unity Stamp Co., and may all your stamping dreams come true!
Wrapped in Love
So many celebrations centre around finding and giving that perfect gift. It shows how much we love someone and that we honor those little things that we know are special to them. At the heart of every best gift ever is the connections we have with one another, things that build relationships and strengthen ties. They reflect the things that are most important in life—family, friends, relationships, and time together. They bring joy to both the recipient and the giver alike. As this gallery portrays, the best gifts are from the heart and allow people to deepen relationships or spend time with each other—enjoy these heartwarming visual stories!

The Silent Night Triptych
Silent Night Triptych
By Dooreen Rousseau
Dooreen Rousseau Edmonton, Alberta
SUPPLIES: Lavinia Stamps stencils, masks, blending brushes and stamps, Ranger Tim Holtz Distress ink, Emboss It ink and crackle paste, Sizzix Tim Holtz die, unknown acrylic paint, gel pen, charms, paper bags, embossing powder, envelopes, cardstock and textured fabric adhesive strips.
Shown here: Inside Panels All Open
There’s something magical about a full moon on a clear winter night. Peace seems to settle over the woods, and I like to imagine the fairies coming out to play. That whimsical vision was my inspiration as I created this fun paper bag triptych using Lavinia Stamps. I enjoy using paper bags in different ways as a substrate, and for this
project, I used them to form a unique triptych. The front and back covers are designed differently from the panels in the middle, creating a storytelling effect. The triptych panels share similar elements, tying them together cohesively.
I hope this inspires you to give it a try!
1. CREATE THE TRIPTYCH
Begin with three white paper bags, each measuring 3.5" x 6.5". They’re joined together with a textured fabric strip glued along the inside folds, leaving a .5" gap so the bags fold properly once decorated.
Adhere the bags with the folded bottoms facing up. If necessary, make a slit at the inside fold to allow the fabric strip to sit flush. Set the triptych aside and start on the panels.
Shown here:
Single Panel (front) Open Two Panels
Back Panels All Open
CREATE THE INSIDE PANELS
1. The panels should be 3.5" x 6.5", but you can trim them slightly smaller to allow the bag’s surface to act as a mat for the panels.
2. Tape three panels together on the back so they can be inked as a single cohesive landscape.
3. Use a moon die cut as a mask while inking. Start with Stormy Sky ink, applying it lightly to the surface and leaving some areas lighter for added dimension.
4. Darken the edges and areas around the mask using Chipped Sapphire ink. Be sure to fold the tags and get the inside edges as well.
5. Apply Chipped Sapphire ink heavily through a Foliage stencil along the sides and inside edges of the panels. This will create a background that suggests trees, adding great visual texture.
6. Plan your stamping and stamp three snowflakes using a clear embossing ink. Heat emboss them with white embossing powder. You can also ink up the stem of a floral to create a snowflake tree, if desired.
7. Splatter the background with a liquid glitter pen. Squeeze the pen to fill the brush, then tap it over the panels to add sparkle. You can also splatter white paint for a snowy effect.
8. To create snow drifts at the bottom, use an acetate hill mask to draw onto cardstock. Cut it out, apply texture paste, and once it’s dry, tint the drifts with diluted Stormy Sky ink.
9. Stamp florals, fairies, toad houses, and deer on the panels.
10. Cut apart the panels and glue snow drifts to each, trimming as necessary.
11. Finally, adhere the panels to the inside of the triptych. (see page 50).
SCRAPS OF INFO
Using monochromatic colours is a great way to add visual texture. In this project, I worked with two shades of blue, applying the lighter shade first. The darker tone was used for shading, and the stencilled layer was applied randomly and more heavily for a layered background effect. It’s a simple but effective technique—give it a try!
DECORATING THE ENVELOPE
1. For added charm, create a small envelope (2.76" x 4"). Stamp a fairy on it, masking the moon to keep it white while you ink and stencil the rest.
2. Don’t forget to ink the back and add a panel for a quote. The envelope can be glued to the side of a bag or behind a panel before attaching the panel.
3. For the front and back panels: Use a moon mask and ink with Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire, fading the colour about three-quarters down. Then, ink the bottom of the panel with Gathered Twigs, darkening the edges with Hickory Smoke. Lightly stencil shapes in the moon for added detail.
CREATING THE FRONT AND BACK PANELS
1. Mask the moon. Ink with Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire, fading three-quarters down. Ink the bottom with Gathered Twigs, darkening the edges with Hickory Smoke. Lightly stencil details in the moon. Stamp leafy stems in Gathered Twigs at the base, keeping it loose. Use Scorched Timber for long-stemmed florals.
2. Stamp three fairies on the front panel only.
3. Ink and decorate the remaining panels using the same techniques.
4. Splatter the panels with water and white paint for added texture. Use a white gel pen for stitching details along the tag edges and to highlight florals.
5. Adhere the panels and finish the project with a decorative bauble.

LAYERED STENCILING AND WATERCOLOUR MUSHROOM CARD
Place your Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock cardstock and the Altenew Mushroom Garden stencil onto the Altenew Stampwheel to keep it in position. Use Altenew inks and blending brushes to add colour through the stencil. Mask off areas you don’t want to colour using sticky notes.
3.
Paint the mushroom images using the Altenew Watercolor Essentials Set. Mix colours to achieve the desired tones and values. For some shimmer, apply Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Mica Stain by painting it on with an Altenew waterbrush.
Complete all four layers of stenciling, gradually adding darker inks as you progress to create depth.
Die cut a sentiment strip using Penny Black dies, and stamp your sentiment from the Altenew Mushroom Greeting stamp set. Blend around the edges of the sentiment strip with Altenew ink for a finished look.

Place a 12” x 12” piece of Christmas Charm paper into the Ribbons & Bows Decorative Border Punch. Align the edge of the paper with one of the black lines on the punch.
Using the 12-inch Trimmer, cut the remaining Christmas Charm paper into one 8” x 6” rectangle and one 4” x 6” rectangle. Flip the 4” x 6” rectangle over to show the reverse side of the pattern.
Cut a 12” x 12” piece of coordinating Christmas Charm paper to 12” x 11.5” using the 12-inch Trimmer. Centre and adhere it onto a piece of Avocado Cardstock to form the base. Adhere the 8” x 6” and 4” x 6” rectangles as shown in the layout.
Punch down, then move the paper until the punched shape aligns with the blue image and triangle printed on the punch. Continue punching until you’ve created a complete border. Repeat this process to make four Ribbons & Bows borders.
With the Micro-Tip Scissors, cut two of the 12” Ribbons & Bows borders in half to create four 6” borders. Cut the other two borders into 4” sections, creating six 4” borders. Flip half of the borders to show the reverse pattern.
Arrange the Ribbons & Bows borders next to the rectangles, alternating the patterns. Adhere them with Repositionable Adhesive. Add matted photos, embellishments, stickers, and journaling to complete the layout.

Winter Wishes
Nicole Wright, Calgary, Alberta
SUPPLIES: Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Super Stock, Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stain, watercolour paper, and heat tool, Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz stamp, Sizzix die, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.
LAYERED PETAL PEEK CARD
1.
Collect three to four Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stains in your holiday colours. Cut watercolour paper to fit the size of your poinsettia die, and spray each piece with Distress Spray Stain.
3.
Die cut the Sizzix Tattered Poinsettia from your watercoloured paper. Repeat steps 1-3 using three different colours of Distress Spray Stain.
Dry the watercolour paper using the Ranger heat tool. Use a baby wipe to blot the excess Distress Spray Stain while drying. This will speed up the drying process and give the paper a mottled effect.
Cut Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock to 10” x 5” and score at 5” to create a 5” x 5” card. Trim 2.5” from the front flap and set it aside. Cut the poinsettia pieces in half and adhere them along the inside edge of the flap, layering the different colours until full. Finally, use the 2.5” piece to cover the back of the flap where the petals are glued.

COLD HANDS, WARM HEART.
Living in Canada means absolutely zero shortage of snowy winter photos! Oftentimes, it can feel a bit repetitive to continually reach for blue, white, and snowflakes for every project filled with snowy pics, so for these layouts, I’ve shared how easy it can be to incorporate other colours and titles!
I love using bits of gold on my pages and was able to incorporate it into my Cold Hands, Warm Heart layout seamlessly, using a gold and white striped patterned paper as well as gold washi tape too! REMEMBER:
Just add a strip of washi to white or light-coloured cardstock to be able to border punch it and raise it up off your project!
Adding a strip of multicoloured patterned paper to your design is a fabulous way to be able to include other colours onto your page. The striped strip worked well and adhered right underneath my photos. It then allowed me to add in some other shades of blue and a pop of light pink too!
Using the sketch as a guide for my Bundle Up layout, I rotated it to the right to have my patterned paper strips run vertically and added the same-sized photos, shifting them to a horizontal layout. Layering die cuts underneath a page title is also a fun way to add dimension and visual interest to your page!
A 12” x 12” sketch is easily adapted to an 8.5” x 11” layout. Two of my favorite ways to do this are to reduce the number of photos on the original sketch and create a border for your patterned papers by trimming a little off their size so that your base becomes a cardstock border!
However you choose to use this sketch, be sure to TAG US @csmscrapbooker – we love to see what you create! If you love the cut file I used > GRAB IT FOR FREE!

Fins, Fur, & Feathers
“Animals
are such agreeable friends. They ask no questions; they pass no criticisms.” – George Eliot
If you have ever been lucky enough to have been chosen by an animal to be their best friend, you are lucky indeed! Sure, it can be a lot of responsibility and expense to look after a pet, but the rewards outweigh the costs every time! Dogs and cats are the most popular of course, but fish, birds, rabbits, and even toads make great companions and loyal listeners. They live with us, happy to share whatever we offer, and return love to us tenfold! This gallery overflows with the mutual enjoyment we have with our pets of all stripes, beaks, or fins...

Repetition is the act of repeating a similar or same design element that allows them to come together as one cohesive whole.
In this case, the circular shape is used again and again but each one features a different pattern of either texture or image.
Essentially there is repetition within the repeated circle.
The use of real stitching is paired with a repeated graphic interpretation of stitching on the circles.

Sports- physical activities pursued for the goals and challenges they entail. – Britannica.com
Sport sounds like a simple enough concept, but the variety of sport is impressive; there are over 800 types of sports played around the world. Only 32 events were played at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, but all those athletes have perfected their physical and mental game with peak levels of fitness and focus. You don’t have to play with Olympic level skill to enjoy friendly competition, thank goodness! Backyard games of cornhole and bunnock lead to epic memories every bit as precious as winning league or provincial championships. Our gallery focused on sports is filled with variety, inspiration, and good times!

INSTRUCTIONS
1. This handmade journal from the Journal Romance Special Kit can be used for holiday journaling, Bible journaling, or memory keeping. You’ll need: (1) a piece of fabric for the spine, (2) two half pages of patterned cardstock from Reminiscence the Book 8 for the cover and back, and (3) ten double pages cut from craft-coloured cardstock for the book pages. To make a double page, fold a piece of cardstock and align the fold on the embossed line of the page die before die cutting. Lastly, you’ll need (4) eleven binding pieces to connect the pages. Edge all pieces and pages with Frayed Burlap Distress ink.
2. Create your spine by backing the fabric with double-sided adhesive and cardstock, then die cut it using the spine die. Depending on the fabric's thickness, you may need craft scissors to cut it completely. Use the die cut impression as
a guideline. Crease the spine along both fold lines and attach the flaps to the front and back covers.
3. Decorate each base page with overlays cut using the halfpage overlay die. Use thinner sheets from Reminiscence the Book 8, old paper, cardstock, vintage paper, or book paper. Attach overlays to the pages with glue.
4. Add colour to the cardstock overlays with watercolours. Use heavier paper from Reminiscence the Book 8 to avoid warping. Paint in thin layers to highlight the details. Add white paint splatter using acrylic paint for extra detail.
5. Put your book together by adding binding pieces to the pages without attaching them to the spine. Crease the binding piece along the fold with a bone folder. Apply wet glue to the back and attach each half to both page edges. Repeat for all pages, connecting the end pages to the front and back covers.
6. Die cut two halves of the folio piece from cardstock, crease along the fold, and glue the top and bottom edges to the page. Seal the folio with string or twine. Add elements like the snowman from the December White die set. Get creative with texture using lace, secret flaps for photos, pockets, and more. You can also add extra mini pages with the binder piece.
Enjoy your finished memory journal!

Winter – Season of Life
I don’t like winter—not as a season of weather and not as a season of life. Winters can be cold, long, and dark. And it can be hard to believe that there will ever be an end to our suffering, sadness, loneliness, sickness, and trials. None of us get to bypass winter, but the good news is that God is always there with you, and winter always ends. There is always HOPE.

WINTER SEASON OF LIFE
Allison Orthner, Calgary, Alberta
SUPPLIES: Soul Art papers, unknown decoupage medium.
SCRAPS OF INFO
I wanted to include all the challenging emotions of a winter season of life, but ensure there was also a sign of hope (like a butterfly), even if it’s not evident at first. This is just like real life. Sometimes it’s hard to find HOPE, but if we look hard enough, we will find it with God’s help.
The “Winter Blues” can hit hard, but knowing you are not alone can help. The Psalmist felt them as well, and his words resonate with those suffering. The good news is that God is always there in the midst of the long, cold, dark times, and winter always ends, so hold on tight to this HOPE. And please reach out for help if needed.

But if you look beyond the daylight hours, you will find vibrant life and vigorous spirit as people go about their business, no matter the weather. Arguably, the best way to survive freezing temperatures while the earth rests under a blanket of snow is to embrace everything winter has to offer. Winter sports are varied and fun for all ages, pristine snowscapes are stunning and peaceful, and cozy cups of hot chocolate are restorative. This gallery is filled with inspiration for all things winter—not just for surviving the season, but thriving in it! If you take time to chase the snowflakes, winter is nothing but thrilling!

In this case, sea foam green is used in various tints and shades across the layout.
Adding pattern or variations in shape allow it to still be visibly dynamic while still feeling connected.
The graphic elements combined with the soft watercolour drops on the background create a visual intriguing dynamic.

In the End
The soft, glowing light of a gingerbread house at night feels like a quiet reminder of the best gifts in life—those moments of warmth, joy, and connection that we hold dear. In this Winter issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, we celebrate those gifts: the pets that fill our days with unconditional love, the thrill of crossing something off your bucket list, and the magic of Christmas that makes even the smallest things feel special. In the end, it’s not just about creating; it’s about pausing to appreciate the light that shines in our lives, just like that gingerbread house, glowing softly with love, imagination, and tradition.
