Bobby enjoys interacting with his coworkers and the opportunity to work at the Fort Indiantown Gap military site. His favorite part of the job is the people he gets to work with, “I like being around the people,” he says.

His reliability and friendliness have made Bobby a favorite among his peers - “I show up!”

Paula Blough enjoys using the document destroying machine. She enjoys it so much that she got herself a job as a paper shredder with Barber National Institute.

Paula always steps up to the plate and is willing to do what is needed to get the job done in a timely manner. Her floor supervisor can count on her to work independently with little to no support or engagement. Paula’s mood is always positive and will ask the floor supervisor what she needs to do next. She is very quick and is a huge asset. Paula’s ability to sort so quickly helps other people to be supplied with work. She is independent, very reliable, stays on task, takes pride in her work, and puts the effort into it. Paula likes to have things done right and ensure things are done quickly, when something is not accurate and she needs correction, she takes the coaching very well.

Paula does anything in shredding that is asked of her. She sorts and shreds the paper. She enjoys being helpful. “If you need something done quickly, she is the person to help!” says team member Susan Gorman.

Recipients Achievement Award

Terri Brown

Transitional Employment Consultants | Washington, PA

Terri Brown has worked as a Photo ID Technician at Transitional Employment Consultants for the past 11 years. She is a shining example of a team player; always counted on to be on site and giving her co-workers lunch breaks. She understands that the success of the team is also her own success. “I do like my co-workers. I want to make sure everyone is happy and then some.”

Terri came to the position through the Office of Vocation Rehabilitation. They led her to the photo center located in Washington and the job that would become an important part of her life. Terri says, “I work with a good group of people. This is the longest I have ever stayed at a job. It doesn’t feel like it’s been eleven years.” She loves the hours because she can take the bus to do things after her shift and the extra money helps. “This allows me to do other things that my disability does not,” adds Terri. “The location is good for me. I work with a good group of people. I enjoy working with them.”

She is very excited that she was nominated for the Achievement Award. “Thank you,” Terri continued, “I feel very honored to be receiving this and to be getting this recognition. I would like to just say thank you very much.”

Michael Carroll

InspiriTec | Philadelphia, PA

Michael Carroll is a passionate problem solver who has always demonstrated his intellect, work ethic, and dedication to advancing both himself and InspiriTec’s mission. Since being referred by the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Michael has moved through the ranks at InspiriTec, first working in their call center as a Customer Service Representative and a Quality Assurance Analyst. Now Michael is a full-time Marketing Assistant working on a variety of marketing and communications tasks.

He uses skills and experiences he developed before coming to InspiriTec, including his degree in journalism – and learns more every day. “It is a challenge,” says Michael, “and I wanted a challenge.”

Over the years, Michael tried several careers, but none of them seemed to fit as well as when he came to InspiriTec. “The thing about our company [InspiriTec] is that we employ people with disabilities. The environment is a better fit. They will teach you and coach you. They are more about investing in their employees and teaching them the right way, versus just hiring people.” He went on to say, “They take the time to understand the person. Learn their strengths and weaknesses and learn to work with the person.” This approach has allowed Michael to fine tune his skills and approach to his work.

Michael’s disabilities would be debilitating for many people. For Michael, it has been another challenge to overcome. He started driving on his own, took on more financial responsibility in paying his own bills, and recently signed a lease for his own apartment. “Michael is perpetually driven to achieve his goals,” says Supervisor Dean Marino.

Michael is honored to receive the Achievement Award and says, “Thank you! By getting this award, it shows an example of someone who has gone in the direction of what InspiriTec would like.”
