GET STARTED PROGRAM

Our Get Started Program is a series of three complimentary appointments designed to support you in pursuit of your health and wellness goals. A wellness coach will meet with you to discuss your needs and interests and together you will develop an achievable plan for success. Whether you are new to exercise, have dabbled in it your whole life, or are comfortable in your regular program, we will help you make the most of your Y membership! DIABETES PREVENTION

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

MAKE A DIFFERENCE Experience the joy of helping a child learn The Fall River YMCA is seeking volunteers to engage and work with area youth in the BayCoast Bank Educational Achievement Center.

We are looking for volunteers to help us in this important work! Lend your expertise whileencouraging children to learn through interactive curriclum-based lessons and activities. Educational Achievement Center volunteers will: • Be provided with an orientatioin and ongoing training • Use existing curriculum or create their own based on their passions and interests • Commit to a least one hour a week after school for an 11 week session • Be at least 18 years of age • Have fun, be a role model and make a difference in the lives of children

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE January 5 - March 25 Sign up for our 12 week session of youth basketball at the Fall River YMCA. Weeks 1-2 will be used to determine skills and abilities followed by a draft by the coaches. The Rookies will have weekly skills and drills followed by game action. The Ballers will have weekly practices, and games weekly after Week 2. A great way to learn teamwork and build confidence, on and off the court! SATURDAYS: Rookies (Ages 5-8): 9:00 - 10:00am Ballers (Ages 9-12): 10:00 - 11:00am

SNAPOLOGY: DRONE COMMANDERS ! Build Real Robots! NEW Ages 8-14

YOUTH HIP HOP DANCE CLUB Ages 7-17 January 8 - February 12

In Snapology’s Drone Commander program, students will be introduced to the world of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and develop a deep understanding how to control and manage this exciting technology. In this workshop, children will learn about the types of UAVs, the parts needed for controlled flight, the forces of flight, basic drone safety, and a variety of flying maneuvers. This exciting program will give your child the chance to safely test out some of the newest advances in robotics and really take their knowledge of engineering to new heights! Mondays: January 7 - February 25 6:00 - 7:00pm $65 per session

Hip Hop for all. Whether you are an aspiring dancer or just love to move, this 2 day a week program will introduce students to the fundamentals of Hip Hop dance. Students will learn basic dance moves, musicality and choreography. Tuesday’s class will focus on skills and, drills while Thursday’s class will give opportunities to build those skills into their own creative choreography. Hip Hop dance club is a performance troupe co-taught by two instructors ensuring that students of all dance levels can participate. No previous dance experience is necessary. SWIM LESSON SELECTOR STAGE A WATER DISCOVERY Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.

STAGE B WATER EXPLORATION Parents work with their children to learn fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

STAGE 1 WATER ACCLIMATION Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the pool.

STAGE 2 WATER MOVEMENT Students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water.

STAGE 3 WATER STAMINA Students learn how to swim to safely for a longer distance. Rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg actions are introduced.

STAGE 4 STROKE INTRODUCTION Students develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick.

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. This class is all about bringing literacy to life. We’ll bring a new book to life each and every week. FUTSAL • Ages 7-16

Futsal is a game played with a low bounce ball on a basketball court. It is the game that the best soccer players grew up playing before taking on soccer. MINI BASKETBALL

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE This 12-week, co-ed basketball league begins on Saturday January 5th. Y’s have been teaching children the sport of basketball and building their self-esteem and confidence for over a century. All kids get equal playing time. They practice for 30 minutes with volunteer coaches and play for 30 minutes to develop a feel for the game. At the Y we build the whole child one skill at a time! We provide a quality dance education at an affordable rate, concentrating on technique & performance.
