GET STARTED PROGRAM

Our Get Started Program is a series of three complimentary appointments designed to support you in pursuit of your health and wellness goals. A wellness coach will meet with you to discuss your needs and interests and together you will develop an achievable plan for success. Whether you are new to exercise, have dabbled in it your whole life, or are comfortable in your regular program, we will help you make the most of your Y membership! DIABETES PREVENTION

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

Each day on the farm is different, but the main things volunteers will find themselves doing are: seeding, planting, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting, washing, weighing, packing and preparing beds.

Spring 1 Session • February 24 - April 19, 2020 YOUTH TUMBLING • AGES 6–10

Students will start with the basics of handstands, cartwheels and rolls. Through strength conditioning, they will progress to the more difficult skills including front and back walkovers, handsprings, and more. Tumbling class improves coordination, muscle development, and flexibility. This class is designed to focus on the floor gymnastics exercise and also to compliment dance or cheer. Thursday: 4–5pm Members: $50 | Program Participants: $96

PRE-BALLET • AGES 4–5

This class is designed for children just starting out as dancers. Class participants learn beginner ballet moves & terminology. Thursday: 5:15–5:45pm Members: $54 | Program Participants: $83

Learn proper technique, terminology, & basic ballet steps in a structured but fun, age appropriate class teaching poise & confidence. Thursdays: 5:45–6:30pm Members: $54 | Program Participants: $83

ACTIVE SCIENCE • AGES 5–12

An innovative, initiative that engages participants in physical fitness and educational engagement. Youth participate in group physical activities while wearing activity monitors. Each week students participate in a different activity such as basketball, lacrosse and yoga. After exercising, children enter the data from their monitors into mobile tablets and interact with their personal data. Active Science simultaneously increases children’s physical activity and engagement with STEM content. Mondays: 5:45–6:30pm Free with YMCASOUTHCOAST Membership

LITTLE ARTISTS • AGES 5–12

Let us get messy creating and mixing different concoctions! Experiment with paint, different clays and doughs, ect. Explore a new project each week with your budding artist! KIDS’ NIGHT OUT: MARCH MADNESS

Friday 3.20 6–8:45pm Inviting all kids, ages 5-14, to lace up their sneakers and join us for an evening of basketball games in the gym, a St. Patty’s Day or Mardi Gras craft, and of course, POOL TIME. 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL LEAGUE – NEW!

More than 100 years ago, the YMCA invented the sport of basketball. Now, the Fall River YMCA is launching a brand new 3-on-3 youth basketball league. Want to increase your basketball skills and compete against your friends in a fun but competitive league? The 3-on-3 format helps you gain skills faster since each player gets more touches on the ball, gives you more space to try new moves and practice new skills, and gives you more chances to learn footwork as you cover more distance with fewer players. The league will offer a mix of fun, instruction, skills and drills that have been proven successful. These co-ed leagues will require parental volunteers in helping run drills and games. • Co-ed, all abilities and skill levels welcome • Ages 5-12.5, see age range/grade scale (5 year olds must be enrolled in Kindergarten) • This is first and foremost an instructional league, the main focus of practice, drills, and games will be on skill development • Children will be split into three divisions—Grades K-1 | 2-3 | 4-6 • All games are played on Saturdays. For Ages 12+ - Must not already be enrolled in YMCA Childcare The Teen Leaders After School Club meets 4 days a week & features: • Age appropriate structure and activities • Homework assistance • Physical activity • Workshops & presentations to develop leadership & speaking skills • Volunteer opportunities • Enrichment: Active Science, STEM, Arts & Activism, Design Space etc • FREE dinner provided Participants will also be able to attend summer camp as part of our Counselors in Training program! SWIM LESSON SELECTOR STAGE A WATER DISCOVERY

Your infant or toddler will be introduced to the aquatic environment. This is an introduction to water class. *FOR AGES 6 MONTHS-3 YEARS *PARENT /CHILD CLASS’

STAGE B WATER EXPLORATION

Your child will now begin to explore body positions in the water, blowing bubbles, and begin to learn fundamental safety and aquatic skills. *FOR AGES 6MONTHS-3 YEARS *PARENT /CHILD CLASS

STAGE 1 WATER ACCLIMATION

Your child will learn to be comfortable with underwater exploration and will be taught basic water safety skills performed with assistance from the instructor. PRESCHOOL 3-5 30 MINUTES CLASS YOUTH 6+ 45 MINUTE CLASS

STAGE2 WATER MOVEMENT

STAGE4 STROKE INTRODUCTION

STAGE 5 STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Your child will be introduced to breast stroke and butterfly, as well as reviewing and continuing to master front crawl and back crawl. They will reinforce their water safety skills by learning sidestroke and continuing to practice treading water. THIS IS A 45 MINUTE CLASS ONLY

STAGE 6 STROKE MECHANICS

You child will refine their stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and will be encouraged to include swimming as a part of a healthy lifestyle. THIS IS A 45 MINUTE CLASS ONLY

This class is for intermediate to advanced swimmers who like to improve technique, follow a routine or just get a good workout. PEDALING FOR PARKINSON’S WELLNESS TRAINING

Stay stronger together. YOUTH WELLNESS ORIENTATION • AGES 8–13

Youth members who would like to use the strength and cardio equipment need to make an appointment for an orientation with the Health & Wellness staff. The orientation will teach youth members how to safely and efficiently use the equipment, and instruct them about general Wellness Center rules and etiquette. More than one appointment may be necessary depending on the youth member’s needs and understanding. Once training is completed, an access pass will be given. YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes.
