Dartmouth YMCA Winter Session • January 2 - February 16, 2020 DIABETES PREVENTION

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. TEAM BUILDING ADVENTURE COURSE

PERSONAL TRAINING

Groups will visit our low and high ropes for a customized program based on what your group’s goals and needs are this year. Adventure training has groups working together through a series of high and low elements to achieve a common goal. We will work with any group to help form a more cohesive team while improving communication skills as well as articulation and public speaking. Our goal is to help each individual challenge both their physical and mental capabilities. Team building programs are available during or after the school day. Half and full day programs available. Our Get Started Program is a series of three complimentary appointments designed to support you in pursuit of your health and wellness goals. A wellness coach will meet with you to discuss your needs and interests and together you will develop an achieveable plan for success. TUMBLING TOTS • Ages 3-5

Preschool tumbling is designed for students to develop strength, agility, flexibility, body positioning, and control through basic skills. Each child will be introduced to the basic foundation of tumbling which include rolling, handstand variations, and cartwheels. Children will participate in small and large groups to foster the social and emotional skills needed to begin Kindergarten. Thursdays: 4:00 - 4:30pm Members: $50 | Program Participants: $96

YOUTH TUMBLING • Ages 6-10 Students will start with the basics of handstands, cartwheels and rolls. Through strength conditioning, they will progress to the more difficult skills including front and back walkovers, handsprings, and more. Tumbling class improves coordination, muscle development, and flexibility. This class is designed to focus on the floor gymnastics exercise and also to compliment dance or cheer. LITTLE KICKERS • Ages 5-8 This preschool program will introduce participants to the basics involved in youth soccer. This program will expand the player’s knowledge of youth soccer. Players will improve in all aspects of the game. ACTIVE SCIENCE

An innovative, initiative that engages participants in physical fitness and educational engagement. Youth participate in group physical activities while wearing activity monitors. Each week students participate in a different activity such as basketball, lacrosse and yoga. After exercising, children enter the data from their monitors into mobile tablets and interact with their personal data. Active Science simultaneously increases children's physical activity and engagement with STEM content. PEDALING FOR PARKINSON’S WELLNESS TRAINING

Stay stronger together. Designed for children with high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, anxiety or other related disorders to develop coping skills while practicing different strategies in a group setting. This program teaches participants the importance of a well-balanced strength training program: proper warm up, strength training, conditioning, and flexibility. GROUP CLIMBING LESSONS

Perfect for teens and adults. Take your climbing skills to the next level with one-on-one sessions with a Y professional climbing instructor. Learn valuable skills for climbing outdoors, fine tune your muscles for advanced climbing and push yourself to new limits. Youth members who would like to use the strength and cardio equipment need to make an appointment for an orientation with the Health & Wellness staff. SNAP – SPECIAL NEEDS AQUATIC PROGRAM Preschool Ages 3-5 Youth Ages 6+

Introduces children with diverse disabilities to the water. It will focus on water orientation/ acclimation, stroke development, aquatic safety, structured and free play. Children must be accompanied in the water by an adult (18+ years) during the program.

SPECIAL NEEDS OPEN SWIM

A swim time set aside for families with special needs to enjoy quiet time with family members. At least one member of the family must have a diverse-ability to utilize the pool at this time.

SWIM TESTING

Need a swim test for a sailing school, to crew a boat, for a GSA/BSA badge, for Tabor Academy orientation or other reasons? Please contact our Aquatics Department to schedule an appointment. A $5 fee will be assessed for simple tests (<15 minutes); a $15 fee will be assessed for tests of 16-30 minutes.

PARENT/TOT OPEN SWIM

A quieter pool time for families with children under 6 years of age. Avoid some of the noise, splashing and distractions that may happen during other open swim times and enjoy pool time with parents & young children aged 0-5 years! An adult must accompany children in the water within arm’s reach at all times; no more than two children per adult for safety supervision reasons. NOTE: With all group aquatic programs, a minimum of three participants is required to run the class unless otherwise noted in class description.

YOUTH WELLNESS ORIENTATION

Ages 8-13 Youth members who would like to use the strength and cardio equipment need to make an appointment for an orientation with the Health & Wellness staff. The orientation will teach youth members how to safely and efficiently use the equipment, and instruct them about general Wellness Center rules and etiquette. More than one appointment may be necessary depending on the youth member’s needs and understanding. Once training is completed, an access pass will be given. This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE This 12-week, co-ed basketball league begins on Saturday January 5th. Y’s have been teaching children the sport of basketball and building their self-esteem and confidence for over a century. All kids get equal playing time. They practice for 30 minutes with volunteer coaches and play for 30 minutes to develop a feel for the game. At the Y we build the whole child one skill at a time! We provide a quality dance education at an affordable rate, concentrating on technique & performance. MUSIC MEDELY • Ages 18 months - 2 years Introduction to motor & social skills needed for dance & tumbling. Great for boys & girls.
