WHY PUERTO VALLARTA Puerto Vallarta is a charming resort town located on Mexico’s Pacific coast. Many visitors tend to become mesmerised by its relaxed ambient and warm tropical climate. Puerto Vallarta has 360 days of sunshine throughout the year and average temperatures of 27°C (80°F) so there is no bad time to visit. During summer, sunny days prevail with rainy afternoons, while in winter the nights are a little cooler.

Known for its beachside promenade (El Malécon) with contemporary sculptures and live entertainment as well as water sports, dining and a vibrant nightlife scene, Puerto Vallarta is becoming more and more popular each year. It is a perfect place to indulge in a Mexican culinary adventure and get familiar with the local arts and crafts scene.

SUITE LIVING Our gorgeous Honeymoon Suite (2305) had a fresh, contemporary ambience with locally inspired design elements: tropical woods, white and colour accents in handwoven textiles, round mirrors, blown glass bowls, and trendy bedside lamps.

One of our favourite features of the room was a private terrace with a massive hammock and outdoor Jacuzzi - it's hard to imagine a better way to unwind and relax.

How To Advance Your Modelling Career Being a model is hard work, and it’s not likely that you’ll become an overnight sensation in this industry. It takes practice and knowing the right people so that you can progress in your modelling career.

There are a few factors, in particular, you should pay the most attention to if you want to advance in this area quickly. Learn what these are so that you feel more comfortable and confident pursuing your dreams. Keep in mind that it’s going to take a big commitment from you but that if you put in the hard work now, you’ll likely be able to experience a brighter future. Most importantly, have fun and be yourself as you go after this challenging yet rewarding pursuit.

Get in Shape If you want to have a successful modelling career then it’s critical you focus on getting in the best shape possible. There’s a lot of competition out there, and others will be working just as hard if not harder to perfect their bodies. Spend a lot of time in the gym and also strive to eat as healthy as possible so that you can more easily reach your fitness goals. Determine a workout routine that you can stick to and helps you focus on all the right areas so you feel extremely comfortable in your own skin. You may need to step up your current regimen and challenge yourself even more if you’re going to truly advance your career and stand out from the crowd. Of course having confidence in yourself is the most important factor and don’t deny yourself luxuries or eat an unhealthily low amount of food. A good, balanced diet is all you need.

Page 15

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Invest in Yourself & Your Career To succeed at modelling, you’re likely going to have to make a few sacrifices along the way. For example, you may need to commit money to travelling to various agencies and shoots and purchasing attractive clothes. There’s no need to panic if you’re short on cash or have bad credit because you can go online to learn more about your options for opening a credit card. This way you can purchase what you need to in the moment and give yourself a little time to earn extra money and pay off the bill.

Find A Mentor It’s going to be in your best interest to find and pinpoint a mentor who’s already thriving in the modelling industry. Use this person as a role model and to bounce ideas off of and get advice from as you try to advance your c a r e e r. A s k them what m i s t a k e s they’ve made and about any regrets they have so you can try to avoid these types of situations going forward. It might not be a bad idea to see if you can shadow them on the job as well and then be sure to take notes about how you can be bettering yourself.

Page 16

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Always be Networking You can also more quickly advance your modelling career by building up your network of contacts. You never know who you’re going to meet that can help you land a sought after gig or shoot that will truly take your career to the next level. Put yourself out there and constantly meet new people and share about yourself and your talents with others. Use your network too for when you have questions regarding how to proceed or need input about a particular job offer you’re debating.

Create A Portfolio of Your Work It’s important to take the time to create a portfolio of your work that you can present to others. Make sure it’s up-to-date and polished and that you’re ready for anyone to view it at any time. There are plenty of resources and tips out on the Internet to help you with this project if you’ve never had to build one before. You want to compile all of your best photos and work so it’s in one place and others can quickly see what you’re made of and have to offer. Spend time making sure it’s organised nicely and includes the most ideal highlights from any past experience you do have modelling.

Embrace Rejection The reality is that you’re likely to be rejected fairly frequently, especially when you’re first starting out. What you have to do is avoid taking this denial personally and continue to work hard and move on from it fairly quickly. Work on overcoming your fear of rejection so that it doesn’t hold you back from going after what it is you want. The best way to approach these negative responses is to learn from them and try to gather and use any feedback that people are willing to give you so you can do better the next time around. There are so many people out there trying to make it big in the modelling industry that rejection is common and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.

Page 19

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Act Professional It’s easy to get caught up in the glitz and glam of the modelling industry and be tempted to make poor choices. However, this is likely to set your career back and could tarnish your reputation for good if you’re not careful. Treat each opportunity as your job and always act professional in every situation. Be polite yet assertive and use good judgment when it comes to how you spend your down time. You want potential clients to remember you for all the right reasons and because they saw someone who has potential to accomplish their goals.

Practice Posing

&

Walking The truth is that no matter what it is you’re after in life that practice makes perfect. You can also advance your modelling career by using your free time to practice posing and walking. Let this be a time to make mistakes or commit errors so that you can avoid these mishaps when you’re actually auditioning. Watch videos, read articles and try to mimic what other professional models are doing so you can improve in this area. You want to get all your nerves out ahead of time so that you don’t feel silly or shy when you’re asked to walk and pose in front of a potential client.

10 Painting Tips You've made a great decision to create art by painting. Painting will ease your mind, warm your heart and soothe your soul. You will wonder how you have lived to this point without painting. Your life will change in so many ways.

Here are my 10 tips to get you on your way.

1.Supplies Art is very popular and almost any store you shop in regularly, will have art supplies. Go to your favorite and check out what they have. If you are new to painting, look for a kit that has multiple paints, a package of brushes and a booklet of canvas or paper. In the beginning, all supplies work. There is no need to get bogged down figuring out what types of brushes to use. Most of the time you will find a brush you like and use it for almost everything.

2. Subject When you have your supplies and are ready to paint, then you need a subject. Pick something you have an interest in or knowledge about. Pets, skateboarding, biking, school or sports are all possibilities, Mother Nature too, of course, if you want to do landscapes. Keep things simple at first and just paint. Do 15 paintings and you will have the basis of what you want for supplies going forward.

Page 46

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

3. Art Store The next stop will be an art store. Why not an art store right away? Well, certainly you could go there first. Maybe that is your only option. If you do, I guarantee you will spend more money than you need to, at the beginning of your art career. You may not know it yet, but art is an expensive hobby and you will want to spend your money on things important to you.

Artwork by Mike McArdle

Page 47

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

If you do the 15 paintings first, you will get to know which brushes you like and which paints are your favorite. Then you can focus in on exactly what you want to buy and gradually increase the quality and quantity of your art inventory.

The final way you can really save at the art store is to watch when supplies go on sale. Often times paint can be 50% off and canvas as much as 70% off. When "on sale", BUY as much as you can afford, haul and store.

4. Canvas The decision for the type of canvas or paper to use depends on what the goal is for the art you are producing. If it's just practice, it can be done on almost any kind of paper. If your budget is very limited, cut up cardboard Amazon boxes and paint on them. Many famous artists including Picasso, painted on cardboard.

If the goal of your art is a contest, show or gallery, then buy a framed canvas. There are multiple grades of canvas and if you are beginning, start with a lower grade. You can hide a less than ideal canvas with a good frame. Is what you put on the canvas that matters the most.

Always prep your canvas with a light layer of paint.

5. Brushes You mention shopping for new brushes to an artist and their eyes glaze over with excitement. There are literally hundreds of sizes and shapes. You can spend your entire budget on brushes, but you don’t really have to. Sometimes the least expensive brush has just the right bristle to create the effect that you desire. Every artist likes a new brush, but I wouldn't break the bank trying to buy the best one.

Page 48

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

6. Paint This is the one thing that I will say to buy the best paint that you can afford. In your original 15 paintings, you probably used a lesser quality paint. You may have noticed that the yellow didn’t cover very well or that other colors were washed out. If you crave bright colors, you will need to buy the best paint available. You won’t be disappointed. Buy most of your paint during sales when it’s 30 to 50% off.

7. Mixing paint Unless you are great at mixing paint, buy the different colors that you want to use. Case in point: let’s say you mixed a color using several paints until you got a great color and you put it on a painting. The next day you want to add a little more of the same color as the day before. Even though you try and try, you never get the same color and instead you end up with a pallette full of paint that is the wrong color. Dilemma.

8. Paint at least two paintings at once Always have a second canvas available to use up any left over paint. If you followed Item #6 and bought the best paint, then you will want to use every drop that you mix. Use it to prep your next canvas or have two paintings going simultaneously.

9. Your art journey Never judge your work by comparing it to other artists’ work. Your art is individual to you. Your art journey is yours to experience. It may be different, and in the beginning it may not be very good, but it’s yours and you can proudly own it!

10. Join an art group and participate Art groups usually have art classes and monthly shows. The art shows will give you an opportunity to hone your skills at talking to others about yourself and your art.

Page 51

Art groups are filled with wonderful people that will help you get better as an artist and a person. Get involved.

The For

U.S.

States

Your

Yoga

Travel Bucket List Yoga has always been a hit in the US, and over the years has morphed into different styles. No doubt that this ancient practice is growing everywhere, leading to vibrant yoga communities being established. The good news is, there are various yoga-friendly states across the country, where you can pick from various yoga studios and the kind of discipline that you prefer.

In this article, we'll talk about some states in the US that you can add in your yoga travel bucket list:

New York As they say, the city is like the mecca of everything ‒ including yoga. New York has a growing list of great and diverse yoga studios, so it's quite easy to take some headspace in the city that never sleeps. Here, you'd find the best instructors, exceptional studios, plus, a bunch of yogi friends along the way.

In fact, the residents of the Big Apple are 34 percent more likely to practice yoga than the average population. It doesn’t come as a surprise, because of the presence of exceptional yoga studios, and various yoga related events held in the city.

Page 54

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

But NYC isn’t the only one who has a fascination with this ancient practice. Yoga is practiced widely in the state, and in fact, it’s known to be one of the most yoga-obsessed states in the country.

California Ever since California has always been the face in health and wellness trends in the country, and yoga is one of those trends that eventually stuck around.

It might also have been the state that jump started the practice of yoga in the US, especially during the 1960s when the free-minded culture was exceptionally rampant in the state.

Page 55

TRAVELING IN STYLE

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

San Francisco even has a yoga room in one of its waiting terminals. Actually, it’s one of the states to do so. The health-conscious city is absolutely in love with yoga. Even companies like Google and Samsung even have on-site yoga studios in their respective facilities.

The variety of yoga practices that this city offers draws aspiring yogis and veteran teachers alike. It also maintains a rich tradition for the healing arts and other spiritual practices. Another interesting thing that you need to know about San Francisco is that it is where the Yoga Journal came into fruition, and it is a city wherein the exceptional yoga teachers thrive.

You can also check out the vibrant yoga scene in other cities like LA, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and everywhere in between.

Pennsylvania Philadelphia is the main city that brought Pennsylvania to this list. Residents of this healthconscious city are 42% more likely to practice yoga than the average population. With basically hundreds of great yoga studios to choose from, it wouldn’t be so hard to pick the perfect studio where you can both sweat and meditate. It also serves as a haven for practitioners of all levels.

The Studio B Yoga Center is named as the best yoga studios in the world. There are two locations in the city, offering reasonable yoga classes, the best massages, and reiki energy treatment.

Colorado Colorado is another state that serves as a breeding ground for yoga. Since one’s overall well-being is important to the people living in Colorado, it ranks consistently as one of the healthiest and happiest states.

Page 57

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

The city of Denver, for instance, is known to be one of the healthiest cities in the country, offering one a variety of recreational activities, and more and more residents are choosing to hit the mat. With the city’s rapidly growing yoga scene and year-long sunshine, it remains to be one of the choices for yoga practitioners.

Boulder is another city that’s been gaining a lot of attention lately. Many yogis are drawn to this city for various reasons. It’s a combination of cultural strains, and this is shown with the people that you meet on yoga classes.

The wonderful thing about it is that it

as an eclectic mix that perfectly

blends in harmony. The majority of

its population is a mix of hippies,

college students, spiritual

teachers, entrepreneurs, and

athletes always seeking a bit of

adventure. Because yoga is a

great way to tone the muscles and

stretch them, it’s one of the top

choices for outdoor athletes.

Also, because the city is

sitting on the base of the

breathtaking Flatiron

mountains, it gives a

perfect backdrop for

picturesque views during

outdoor classes.

Page 58

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Washington Washington is another state that serves as home to many yoga lovers. The people of this rainy yet beautiful state are 46% more likely to practice yoga than the average population. This is mainly because of Seattle, known to be one of the Yoga to the People destinations in the country. It’s also a city wherein the We Yoga Co-op thrives, whose mission is to create a community that’s built through yoga.

For those who had become more and more distant in their local communities, Seattle offers various activities for yoga lovers; a chance to be more than just a usual student or participant in the class. Instead, to make a difference in their local community. Aside from yoga you can also check out the other things that you can do in Seattle.

Alaska This artic land lying outside of the US does love yoga. In fact, even during the colder months, some yogis might even be practicing hot yoga, which helps build the inner body heat! Alaska has been swept away with the practice so much, that more isolated practitioners are practicing it right out of their homes.

You’d also be surprised that Alaska is where most yoga studios are located than any other state. Being the largest city, Anchorage is one of them. Although its population is less than 300,000 in 2010, it still managed to have over 20 different studios. The long, cold, dark winter season certainly didn’t stop them.

So there you have it. Those are some of the most yoga-friendly states in the US. The next time you visit some of these places, make sure to head to a nearby studio to clear your thoughts! By Odette Viola __________________________________________________________________

The Magic of Medellin 10 Reasons to Visit the City of Eternal Spring

Imagine a city surrounded by mountains, with vibrant culture, excellent nightlife, lots of museums, shopping malls, green spaces, and unique innovations. A city where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee on every street corner and indulge in mouth-watering Latin food.

Welcome to Medellin, the capital city of Antioquia, Colombia, which is currently getting more and more international recognition and well-deserved attention.

During the recent couple of years, Medellin has become one of the favourite tourist destinations in the country, just next to Cartagena, Tayrona National Park, and San Andrés island. The city also attracts a lot of entrepreneurs and digital nomads searching for comfortable living conditions (fast wifi!), affordable costs, and all-year-round warm weather.

Nicknamed “the City of Eternal Spring”, Medellin offers lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures that rarely drop below 16°C (at night). The city's average annual temperature is 22°C (72°F). Tropical plants and impressive palm trees add an exotic touch to the scenery.

Page 61

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Medellin has excellent public transportation where cable cars are integrated part of the subway system and connect several neighbourhoods located on the hills offering breathtaking views of the city.

"The most recent survey on the global status of the Smart Cities by Indra Sistemas catalogs Medellín as one of the best cities to live in South America, sharing first place with Santiago de Chile, and alongside Barcelona and Lisbon in Europe. Medellín won the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize 2016. The award seeks to recognize and celebrate efforts in furthering innovation in urban solutions and sustainable urban development." - Wikipedia

There are several reasons to visit Medellin in 2020, but we narrowed them down to Top 10. Have a look at our favourite attractions below and don't forget to book your flight ticket soon!

1. Christmas Lights (El Alumbrado) Medellin’s Christmas Lights are a special part of the culture of the city and attract millions of international visitors each year (mainly from countries like United States, Venezuela, Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Panama, Germany, France, Canada, and United Kingdom).

In 2017, Medellin celebrated the 50th anniversary of this spectacular event with the primary lights display around Parque Explora and inside Parque Norte. The opening ceremony, which took place on the 2nd of December, featured impressive projection mapping show accompanied by electronic music and an explosion of colours.

What's great about light displays in Medellin is the fact that they aren't located in just one place, but spread throughout the whole city.

If you have a chance, visit Envigado, a town southeast of Medellin, which is easily accessible by subway (Metro Station Envigado). The lights are turned on a little earlier, the last weekend of November, and there is lots of entertainment options as well – live concerts in the park, interactive displays, and a Christmas Market where you can try traditional Colombian food.

Did you know?

The Medellin Christmas Lights display includes:

37 million LED lights

1,130 kilometers of LED light hose

50,000 hand-woven figures

5 tons of metallized paper

2.

Plaza

Botero

(Parque

de

las

Esculturas) Plaza Botero, surrounded by the Museum of Antioquia and the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture (designed by the Belgian architect Agustin Goovaerts), is home to 23 sculptures by Colombian artist Fernando Botero, who donated them in 2004.

Always full of tourists and local vendors selling everything from souvenirs to delicious street food, Plaza Botero is one of the must-see attractions in Medellin.

3. Museum of Antioquia The Museum of Antioquia, founded in 1881 as the first museum in Antioquia department and the second in Colombia, houses a large collection of works by Medellinborn Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez.

The museum has 17 rooms for the permanent collection and over 5,000 art pieces. The building itself is worth exploring – it has a spacious courtyard and interesting architecture. Don't miss the city view from the third floor as well.

4. El Poblado (Shopping & Dining Scene) El Poblado, probably the most stylish district in the city, is a place to see and be seen. With lots of fashion boutiques and trendy restaurants serving both local and international cuisine, palm-lined streets of El Poblado have a hip ambience and are a perfect spot to spend time with a group of friends.

"Medellin is also known for its textiles industry, which has been established for more than a century. In recent years this has developed into a fashion scene. El Poblado’s Via Primavera (also called Carrera 37) is an open-air space for independent designers – especially of shoes, leatherware and accessories – trying to tempt shoppers away from the huge malls that dominate the city." The Guardian

If you are a fan of big shopping malls, Centro Comercial Santafé Medellín with over 350 stores and countless entertainment options is definitely the place to be. You can find most popular Colombian brands in one place: Studio F, ELA, MAAJI, Agua Bendita, ARTURO CALLE, AZULU, bon-bonite, KOAJ, Punto Blanco, tennis, and a lot of international brands as well. Happy shopping!

5. Metrocable Medellin is currently home to three Metrocable lines which all became tourist attractions as they offer sweeping views of the city.

Page 67

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Linea J and Linea K are both urban commuter lines that link directly to the city’s subway system. Linea L connects residents to Parque Arvi, a large park located on the outskirts of Medellin.

Metrocable was designed to improve travel time and quality of life in informal settlements located on the hills, home to some of the city’s most disadvantaged communities.

"Medellin pioneered the use of cable cars as a transit alternative in low-income informal settlements in hilly areas, moving 3,000 passengers per hour per direction. The city transformed violence and despair into hope and opportunity, using sustainable transport as one of the key levers to drive change." - said Holger Dalkmann, Sustainable Transport Judge and Director of EMBARQ, when Medellin was selected as a winner of the 2012 Sustainable Transport Award.

The views from the hills are really breathtaking. Don't miss it!

6. Parque Arví Parque Arví, located 30 km from the centre of Medellin in the village of Santa Elena, is both an ecological nature preserve and Pre-Hispanic archeological site.

The park is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and take a warm jacket as the temperatures on the top tend to be a little lower than in the city centre and the weather can change rapidly.

Parque Arví is not only a great place for hiking, birdwatching or a picnic with a family, but also a place to buy fresh products at the local market situated just next to Arví station (last station on line L of the Medellín Metro). Highly recommended!

Page 69

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

7. Comuna 13 (Graffiti Tour) One of my favourite parts of Medellin, Comuna 13, used to be a dangerous neighbourhood which managed to reinvent itself from the drug and gang wars. Thanks to installing the enormous outdoor escalator, Comuna 13 (located high on the hillside) became connected to the rest of the city.

Further government projects helped the community to move on from the troubled past and engage in business, art, and hip hop music providing not only income, but most of all a sense of security and hope for the future.

A must-visit place for all graffiti lovers!

8. Parque Explora Parque Explora is an interactive science and technology museum loosely modeled after San Francisco's Exploratorium and appealing to all ages, nationalities, and genders. It houses South America's largest freshwater aquarium, Explora Aquarium, which recreates wildlife and brings it into the middle of this cosmopolitan city.

Considered one of the best science museums in Latin America, Parque Explora should definitely be on everyone's travel list. You will be surprised how much there is to do and explore inside (even if you are not a science geek).

9. Nutibara Hill Nutibara Hill, an eighty metres tall mountain located in the middle of the urban area, offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding mountains. At the top of the hill, you will have the opportunity to see a replica of a typical Antioquian settlement from the beginning of the 20th century – Pueblito Paisa. The site was opened in 1978 and was named after the indigenous Chief Nutibara.

Another attraction is the Sculpture Park (Parque de las Esculturas) which is also free to the public and is open from 6:00 am to midnight. The park contains 10 modern and abstract sculptures by famous Colombian and international artists such as Edgar Negret (Colombia), Otto Herbert Hajek (Germany), and Sergio de Camargo (Brazil).
