The Benefits of Living a Minimalist Lifestyle M

inimalism has become quite the trend over the last few years. People are decluttering,

getting rid of excess, and adopting lives that focus on the bare necessities. There are different reasons why so many people are interested. Minimalism is better for the environment, and it’s aesthetically pleasing.

But, there are more personal benefits you can also experience from a minimalist lifestyle. One survey found that 14% of Americans are working toward minimalism, and 11% wanted to do it, someday. That’s on top of the people who are already enjoying its perks.

So, why are people turning toward this lifestyle? What can you expect if you’ve been thinking about trying it? Let’s cover a few of the benefits you can experience from living as a minimalist and how to get started if you’re interested.

You’ll Find Freedom Do you ever feel suffocated or overwhelmed by all of your … stuff? Take a look around your house – is it cluttered? Do you have things you never use or even things that don’t work anymore? It’s easy to develop an attachment to those things, but if they aren’t contributing to your life in any positive way, they could be adding unnecessary weight to your mental state. One of the benefits of minimalism is finding freedom from that weight. The “stuff” people surround themselves with is often distracting, and it can keep you from focusing on the meaningful things in life. You can easily become obsessed with it without even realizing it.

5

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

By practicing a minimalist lifestyle, you’ll focus less on your belongings and more on the things that matter, including relationships, hobbies, and self-care.

You’ll also find freedom from the fear of failure. Many people choose to hold onto their worldly possessions because they think losing them somehow makes them a failure. Or, they think the more “stuff” you have, the more successful you are.

In reality, if you look at some of the most secure and fearless people in the world, they tend to have very little. They don’t put all of their focus on their belongings. When you have less to lose, you’re not going to be as worried about it. You’ll hold on loosely to the things you have and realize that you can live without them and still be a success.

You’ll Experience Peace of Mind We mentioned earlier that minimalism is good for the environment, but that’s not something to just gloss over. You can’t turn on any news station or look online nowadays without hearing something about climate change or greenhouse gases. By taking on a minimalist lifestyle, you can do your part to help the planet. Consider going “zero waste” as much as possible by setting achievable goals in every room. Use the following tips to get you started:

Buying snack foods in bulk Avoiding single-use plastic bags and bottles Shopping at local farmer’s markets Investing in high-quality furniture Using recyclable products

When you aren’t constantly throwing things away, you can have more peace of mind and happiness, knowing you’re doing something good for the environment. Zero waste can also help you to lose your attachment and “obsession” over holding onto items. That can lead to less stress and anxiety, boosting your overall mental health and wellbeing.

6

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

If you’re worried about getting started or think it’s impossible, let go of that stress. Another benefit of minimalism is that it promotes self-reliance. While it might seem hard to reduce your waste or “give up” your belongings at first, you’ll quickly see that you’re strong enough to do it. You’re making a commitment to take back your life, rather than letting your belongings control it.

You’ll Give Up Less Than You Think One of the reasons people are so hesitant to live a minimalist lifestyle is because they have the wrong impression. Minimalism doesn’t mean letting go of everything you love. You can even continue your current hobbies, like collecting. Minimalist collecting involves:

Being mindful with your purchases Getting rid of excess Embracing organization Combining novelty with practicality

If you love your wardrobe, you don’t necessarily have to give it up, either. Minimalism and fashion can go hand-in-hand. Look for items that are made from quality materials, meant to stand the test of time. Fast fashion has become a huge problem in recent years, contributing to 17 million tons of textile waste in 2018 alone. By selecting a few quality pieces and using them in different ways to spruce up your wardrobe, you can be fashionable, functional, and minimalistic.

As you can see, minimalism doesn’t mean sacrificing the things you enjoy. Rather, it’s making the most of what you have and using things that have meaning. Consider the benefits of this lifestyle, and start small when it comes to making changes. You’ll quickly see that it’s easier to practice minimalism than you might think, and you’ll instantly reap the rewards. ______________________________________________________________________________

5 French Wardrobe Essentials Parisian Girls Swear By Getting effortless French style is simply a matter of investing in a couple of basic, versatile, and timeless wardrobe essentials Parisian girls swear by.

There’s something about the French-girl style that simply draws you in and makes you want to dress like a Parisian. Maybe it’s the simplicity of the clothing pieces that, when cleverly combined, work perfectly together, exuding balance and harmony. It may be the versatility and wearability of these basic pieces that have you wanting to Frenchify your closet. Or, it may simply be the elegance and confidence with which Parisian girls wear them that makes you want to dress like them.

Either way, we can all agree that Parisian women’s style is tres chic. The good news is that replicating the French look doesn’t have to be complex and challenging. It’s simply a matter of investing in basic pieces you can wear together, often, and for a very long time. With that in mind, here’s a couple of French wardrobe essentials that Parisian girls swear by.

A timeless white button-down shirt If there’s one piece you can wear on the weekends, to special occasions, or to work, it’s definitely a button-down. More specifically, a classic white, well-fitted button-down shirt.

Cotton or silk? Plain white or with stripes? Doesn’t matter! Button-downs are classic French wardrobe essentials that allow for so much versatility like no other clothing piece does. Because of that, they're also an inevitable component of every minimalist wardrobe. Wear them during the day and rely on accessories to take your button-down from day to night. Simply swap your sneakers for a pair of heels, put on a blazer, add a clutch, and voila! You’re ready for a night out in no time.

A simple white T-shirt Another wardrobe staple Parisian girls swear by, a simple T-shirt can go a long way in creating multiple outfit combinations. It can be worn with high-rise jeans, a skirt, under a dress, or layered with a fitted jacket or blazer. You can stick with plain white T-shirts or you can rely on trendy hand-painted tees for a pop of color.

The options are pretty much endless nowadays when it comes to women's trendy clothing so feel free to experiment. The whole idea is to find pieces that are comfortable enough to be worn every day yet stylish and chic enough to spruce up different outfits. Sometimes, that will mean getting your hands on some trendier pieces that’ll add that oomph factor to your timeless looks.

A pair of high-rise, straight-leg jeans Speaking of comfortable, versatile pieces that can be worn with every outfit, high-rise, straight-leg jeans are another French wardrobe must-have. Depending on the color, they are equally great of an option for daytime and nighttime. The only rule? Stick with lighter options for a more casual vibe, and reach for dark wash jeans for a more sophisticated look.

French women also like to stay comfy when it comes to footwear, and a pair of white sneakers or loafers are the perfect finishing touches to the effortlessly chic jeans-and-a-Tshirt combo.

A little black dress When talking about building a foundation of French wardrobe essentials, it’s impossible not to mention the little black dress. The ultimate Parisian girl closet staple, the LBD is praised for its versatility and practicality. French girls will wear their LBDs to a date, to a dinner, a cocktail party, and even a job interview. To them, it’s basically their go-to piece for those I’ve-got-nothing-to-wear situations. Go for the shape that fits you best, and rely on various accessories to dress your LBD up or down.

A classic beige trench coat Last but not least, another timeless staple that’ll breathe new life into your wardrobe is the classic beige trench coat. It’s every Parisian girl’s best friend during those rainy days, and a perfect additional layer to cozy up her outfits. Other than keeping you warm on colder days, a trench coat will also make any of your #ootds effortlessly chic.

While trench coats are a basic staple that goes well with virtually everything, they can be quite expensive. That said, they do make for worthy investments and those high-quality ones may even last you a lifetime. Whether you reach for a designer trench coat or a more affordable one, it will definitely become your go-to piece.

Wrapping up Overall, the effortlessly chic French-girl style doesn’t seem too difficult to replicate if you know what you should look for. Closet Clean-Out 8 Clever Tips to Transform Your Cluttered Closet Into an Organized Oasis

I

f you are reading this post, you may be tackling your disorganized closet for the first time.

If not, you are looking for a more effective way to do so. Look, we understand your dilemma. You may have spent the entire day cleaning your closet, only to see it in disarray once again after a couple of months.

However, organizing your closet is an ongoing process. But that does not mean you have to spend an entire day decluttering it. That said, here are eight tips you can transform your closet into an organized oasis for good:

Declutter by Category At Planet Maids Cleaning Services NYC, we believe that sifting through your clothes by type is one of the fastest ways to declutter your closet. That's because it prevents overwhelm, which can hinder you from taking action.

That said, sort your clothing items into types: Pants, shorts, dresses, sweaters, coats, tops, underwear, and so on.

Doing so allows you to see similar items. You might be surprised that you have the same sweaters! It also allows you to quickly categorize which items you would want to keep, give away, sell, and dispose of.

57

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Empty Your Closet Just because we told you to declutter, it does not mean you only bring out one category at a time. You still need to empty your closet. Doing so allows you to deep clean your wardrobe.

That said, bring out your clothing items a handful at a time and then pile them into categories. Repeat the process until nothing is left in your closet — not even a safety pin.

From there, you can sort which clothes you would like to keep, dispose of, and donate. That way, you will know how much closet space you are likely to occupy once you put back all your "to keep" pile.

Reorganize Your Closet If possible, consider detaching or re-attaching your shelves. That way, your closet can occupy as many clothes as possible. Otherwise, you have to be creative in how you will store your clothes.

Some you will need to hang, and some you can fold. You can also use shelf inserts and hooks to maximize your closet space. Another thing you can do is buy a rolling dresser to add more shelves to your closet. Whatever method you use, ensure that it will make sense to you.

Store by Category Earlier, we told you to sort your clothes by category. You should also store them the same way. Doing so makes locating your items more straightforward. For instance, you will need a matching handbag for your outfit; you will know where to find it.

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Stack Thick Items Thick items are your denim and sweaters. That's because they are bulky and can take up too much hanging and drawer space. Moreover, sweaters and denim are less likely to slump and lose their shape. Hence, it would make sense to stack them.

If you want to maximize your closet, you can choose to use Marie Kondo's file folding method. The rationale here is that such a folding method will make it easier for you to locate and pull out a pair of jeans without disorganizing your closet.

Store Most Used Clothes at Eye Level Depending on your lifestyle, place your most used clothing items at eye level. This can be your work-from-home or office attire. If you are a breastfeeding mom, it can be any mommy-friendly clothes.

Whatever it is, it is ideal that they are easy to find and grab, especially at the start of the day when you are yet to have your coffee. Linens and beddings and less used items should be placed on top shelves. And you can use the bottom shelves to store your shoes and other footwear.

Hang Delicate Items In relation to keeping similar items together, you should ensure that you have ample hanging space for your delicate items. We are talking about dresses, skirts, suits, coats, and blazers.

And as Marie Kondo advised, hang the longer items to the left and the shorter ones to the right. This gives your clothes an upward slope, which has an uplifting effect.

Talk about spark joy!

61

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Use Uniformed Hangers If you have a limited budget to organize your items, spend it on coordinating hangers. It can make a significant difference! That's because uniformity emanates a clean and organized look. What happens is that using uniformed hangers reduces visual clutter. It also gives your closet a sleek and streamlined look.

However, invest in a sturdy set of hangers that would work best with the clothes and closet space you have. Buying a dozen ultra-wide hangers if you only have an 18-inch width does not make sense.

Photo created by lookstudio - www.freepik.com

By following the organization tips listed above, you will never have to worry about organizing your closet again. After all, who would not want to have that euphoric feeling of seeing an organized closet?

Stylish Home Office Design Ideas to Keep the Creativity Going W

orking from home comes with many advantages. From not having to dress up every

day to taking breaks whenever you feel like it without having a boss checking up on you. However, that very freedom is what causes the lack of motivation and creativity for many people. That is especially true if you don't have a neatly designed room, but you work from your bedroom. A home office that features a monotonous design can never be inspirational enough. That's why you should think about sprucing up your home working area with some of the modern and stylish designs we’re going to mention. Keep on reading and find the best office design for you.

Minimalism for fewer distractions Adding a little bit of a minimalistic feel to your home will be best if you start from the office. We recommend a white-on-white palette with carefully thought-out accents of colour. White walls accompanied by a white desk and a white office chair is all you need to start decorating a new inspirational office that will make working from home a true delight. Adding a black and white carpet and a plant in the corner that you can see as you sit behind the desk will create a sense of calmness. When it comes to the desk space, keep only the essentials you will be working with during office hours. Store everything else neatly in the drawers to avoid having clutter everywhere.

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Clean and bright, airy and light Taking advantage of natural light is another excellent way to design an office that will promote creativity. Artificial lighting can quickly make you feel tired and unmotivated. Therefore, consider setting up a home office in a room that has plenty of natural light. If you don't have any, install a bigger window. Stick to white hues to introduce clean and airy vibes into the interior. By adding a little bit of green and beige tones, you can offer yourself a serene working ambience. Feel free to add a brown sofa and an armchair where you will have the chance to take a break from work without leaving your workspace.

Accent wall office Sometimes all you need is an accent wall to add interest to the interior. How does a custom jungle wallpaper sound? An amalgamation of green hues on the wall across your desk will add dimension to your home office design. If you can’t imagine how that will look, consult with an expert CGI artist and have them create a home office rendering. You will have the chance to see the room before it’s fully redesigned. With a deep brown desk and a wooden chair, you will create a real nature-like vibe in your office that will inspire you to work better.

Yellow to promote creativity Yellow is said to be the colour that promotes creativity. Therefore, paint your office walls yellow. If you don't feel like repainting, consider adding a variety of yellow accents to the room. From a yellow desk to yellow chairs and paintings, the possibilities are endless. Mix yellow and orange for a thought-provoking interior that will rekindle your creativity day in and day out. Don’t be afraid to display your diplomas, certificates and achievements everywhere and set up shelving to complement the zesty hues. A little pop of colour can go a long way, so don’t be afraid to spruce your office interior with several shades of yellow.

Library for added inspiration

TRAVELLING IN STYLE

Are you a fan of reading? Do you enjoy doing research from printed materials? Could you easily create a home library thanks to so many collections? So why not have a home office in your library? Set up bookcases from one wall to another, from ceiling to bottom. Arrange books on them and bring in your desk and a chair in the room. All those books will inspire you to work harder, and they will be close by if you need them for your work. Feel free to add several decorative items, such as a corner table with a vase filled with flowers.

Studio-like space If you’re going for a slightly innovative approach to designing a home office that will promote creativity, consider a studio-like interior. A designer’s studio is always filled with vision boards and inspirational aids. Everybody needs a little push every now and then, so consider having your vision boards everywhere. Position the desk in the centre of the room so you can roam around it once the creativity plummets. Furnish the office with everything that sparkles your imagination and creativity. Be it antiques, photography, sculptures, or paintings – anything that gives you ideas is welcome in your home office. As long as you make sure your desk is decluttered, your working pace will help you produce original work that will wow everyone.

Final thoughts Not sure how to design your home office? You’re not the only one. Designing a home office that will keep your inspiration on the max can seem challenging. However, if you pay attention to our ideas, you'll have no trouble coming with your unique home office design idea. Alternatively, you can always use some of our suggestions and save yourself the time and trouble of brainstorming. Regardless of the option you choose, we’re sure you’ll create the most comfortable and inviting ambience that will be a delight to work in every day.
