Introducing Care & our services

Care comes in many forms and what makes us one of the leading providers in our community is how we approach the conversation. At Home Instead our goal is to support our clients living independently within their own homes. You or a loved one may need to introduce care as a result of decreased mobility, a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or dementia, or simply just need some additional support and companionship.

1

Home Help

Our Home Help services include general household activities such as laundry, dusting, vacuuming, putting the bins out or ironing. Your Home Instead Care Professional will be matched to you so you can be confident that whatever help you need around the home, they will take the time to get to know just how you want it to be. Whatever your Home Help needs, your Care Professional will be able to do as little or as much as you want them to. We understand that for many people, being able to take care of your own home makes a difference to overall well-being.

Companionship

2

Loneliness can have serious effects on a person’s health and Home Instead aims to prevent social isolation by providing companionship care at home. Many people we support simply want company and conversation, whether they live alone and may not see family and friends as often as they would like, they just want a companion when going out to appointments or to do the shopping. Having care at home can be a big adjustment and starting with a companionship service means that, if a time comes when you need extra help, there is already someone you know and trust to provide care and support.

3

Personal Care

At Home Instead, our Personal Care services ensure that care and support is provided with dignity and a commitment to enable you or your loved one to be as independent as possible. We understand that having support with daily living tasks such as bathing or dressing can make a difference to your quality of life, helping you to stay happy at home. We understand that everyone is unique, so we ensure that support with personal care is tailored to you. We will work with you or your loved ones to put together a detailed person-centred plan that our Care Professionals will follow, so that you or your loved ones gets the care and support needed, in the way that you want it.

For more information about our services or to book a free care consultation please contact us on 01962 736 681 or email us on hants@homeinstead.co.uk

One in six adults over the age of 80 in the UK lives with dementia. Studies have shown the many benefits of remaining at home in familiar surroundings to those living with dementia. We understand the importance of a regular routine and a reliable team of Care Professionals in keeping your loved ones safe and comfortable in their own home. We also know that having a person living with dementia has an impact on the whole family so our Care Professionals are trained to work not just with the person living with dementia, but to support their families too.

Over 70% of our carers have completed their City & Guilds assured dementia training certification through us. 5

Dementia Care Specialist Training

Our Care Professionals have also undertaken specialist training to help our clients remain safely at home for as long as possible, this includes observing and monitoring blood pressure, body temperature, weight, oxygen levels and breathing. Urine infections are common in older people and they can cause disorientation and confusion and, sometimes, lead to falls. Our Care Professionals have been trained in urinalysis and so can help identify infections as soon as they arise. Managing wound care by changing simple dressings and working alongside a trained nurse in accordance with a joint care plan is another service offered by our Care Professionals.

Live-in Care

Live-in care is a specialised form of caregiving where a trained professional resides with a client in their own home, providing round-the-clock assistance and support. One of the primary advantages of live-in care is the continuity of support it offers. Unlike hourly care or periodic visits, live-in carers are present 24/7, fostering a strong bond and familiarity between the Care Professional and the client.

Live-in caregivers assist with a wide range of tasks, including personal care, medication management, meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation, and companionship. Their presence ensures that clients receive personalised attention tailored to their specific needs and preferences, promoting dignity and respect in the caregiving relationship.

A day in the life of a Carer

People often wonder what's involved in being a carer with Home Instead Central Hampshire. The role is diverse and dynamic, depending entirely on your hours and the client’s needs.

Let’s follow Helen, a Care Professional who has been with us for eleven years now. Her first call this morning is taking her client Mr S. food shopping. Mr S. enjoys cooking with fresh ingredients whenever possible and loves having a bowl of fresh fruit to snack on!

After taking Mr. S back home and helping him unpack his shopping, she assists Mr S. in putting together a morning snack. They enjoy a nice cup of tea and have a chat then it’s time for Helen to leave and see Mrs X. for lunch.

Today Mrs X has asked if Helen can take her out to the local garden centre for a look around and some lunch. This is a chance for Mrs X to catch up with Helen and tell her all about a recent family event she’s been to. Helen and Mrs X both enjoy gardening, and we, at Home Instead Central Hampshire always try to match our carers and clients hobbies so they have the opportunity to share things in common and build a good rapport.

A day in the life of a Carer

After a good look around at the different plants on offer, Helen and Mrs X went inside for a pot of tea, lunch, and a slice of cake. For us at Home Instead Central Hampshire it is important that we offer a variety of services to meet the different needs of all of our clients. Mrs X enjoys being out and about, socialising, attending various local clubs and Helen can assist her in these outings with transportation and support.

After taking Mrs X back home, Helen’s last stop of the day is to collect some medication from a local pharmacy for another client. After taking this to their home, Helen is finished for the day. Although every day is different, being able to help clients with day to day activities is something that Helen enjoys.

Staying Well This Autumn: Our Tips

As the vibrant colours of autumn begin to paint the landscape, it's the perfect time to focus on staying healthy and well. At Home Instead Central Hampshire, we understand the unique health challenges that the changing season can bring for seniors. From flu prevention to managing seasonal allergies, here are our top tips for ensuring a healthy and enjoyable autumn.

Get Your Flu Jab

One of the most effective ways to stay healthy during the autumn months is to get your flu jab. The flu can be particularly severe for seniors, making vaccination crucial. Flu jabs are free to those over 65, people with certain health conditions, and carers. Flu jabs reduce the risk of flu-related complications, which can be more severe in older adults, and are available at GP surgeries, local pharmacies, and some community health centres.

Stay Warm and Safe

As temperatures drop, it's important to keep warm to avoid cold-related illnesses. Here are some tips to ensure you stay cosy and safe:

Dress in Layers: Wear multiple layers of clothing to trap heat and stay warm.

Heat Your Home Safely: Ensure your heating system is working efficiently. If you use portable heaters, keep them away from flammable materials and never leave them unattended.

Stay Active: Regular physical activity can help maintain your body temperature and boost your immune system. Simple indoor exercises like stretching or walking on the spot can make a big difference.

Manage Seasonal Allergies

Autumn can trigger allergies due to increased pollen, mould spores, and dust mites

Keep Windows Closed: On high pollen days, keep windows and doors closed.

Use Air Purifiers: Air purifiers can help reduce indoor allergens. Consider placing them in the rooms you use most frequently.

Regular Cleaning: Frequent dusting and vacuuming can help reduce dust mites and other allergens.

Medication: Over-the-counter antihistamines or prescribed medications can alleviate allergy symptoms. Always consult your doctor before starting any new medication.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

A balanced diet is key to staying healthy, especially during the colder months.

Seasonal Produce: Incorporate seasonal fruits and vegetables into your meals

These are not only nutritious but also delicious.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and warm beverages like herbal teas to stay hydrated and support your immune system

Vitamin Boost: Foods rich in vitamins C and D can help boost your immune system.

Keep Up with Regular Health Check-Ups

Regular health check-ups are crucial for monitoring your overall well-being and managing any chronic conditions. Ensure you:

Schedule Appointments: Keep up with routine visits to your GP, optician, and dentist

Review Medications: Regularly review your medications with your doctor to ensure they are still appropriate for your needs
