The Adventures of Mietsie
By Tatiana Scherman
They say dogs are man’s best friend. If that is true, then surely a woman’s best friend must be a cat. Whether you agree or not, I am certain you know where this is going.
The cat, the myth, the legend… Mietsie. Whether you see him (yes, he’s a him) as a comforting reminder of your pets at home, or he’s awakened your cat-person-era, or whether he’s simply cemented your dislike for cats, you have to admit he’s become quite a staple at Kasteel.
Have you ever wondered what Mietsie gets up to in his free time (because being a cat apparently isn’t a full-time job)?
When Mietsie isn’t napping in the sunny garden of Kasteel, could he be leading a double life? By day, he’s the sneaky spy for other ladies’ residences, his playfulness a facade to maintain his cover. Perched on the balconies with a pair of tiny binoculars, jotting down notes about the reasons behind Kasteel’s success (they wish they were us).
What if he is the ultimate mafia boss of campus cats? I wouldn’t put it past him. By evening he rules the Kasteel grounds with an iron paw,
declaring that no other feline may step foot on Kasteel grounds otherwise they will have him to deal with. Remember that grey cat that used to live in Fiesta? Exactly!
Whatever it is, Mietsie’s life is probably as exciting as Kasteel itself. Besides, it’s safe to assume that Mietsie might just be the happiest cat on campus. That and he is probably the most famous one too, having to sign autographs wherever he goes and most likely filling up your phone’s storage (because you’re basically his paparazzi).
Whatever genius strategy he’s cooked up in that tiny brain of his should definitely be studied by scientists; it might just hold the secret to world peace.
There’s something truly special about the way Kasteel has poured so much love and care into this one little creature. It’s a reminder of the warmth and community spirit that fills our residence, a love so abundant it even spills over to our four-legged family.
Mietsie isn’t just a cat. He’s a reflection of the joy, kindness, and sisterhood that makes Kasteel a home.
