SID
By Maka Chatikobo
This year’s Students’ Interest and Development (SID) committee was the place to be.
The SID portfolio focuses on developing students at the university through various leadership projects, involving private students in student life activities and raising disability awareness on campus.
This year, Kasteel had a junior and senior SID committee, led by the lovely Matshidiso Ramashu. The junior committee consisted of 13 first year ladies who took part in the Leave a Legacy programme conducted by the SCC SID Office, to nurture leadership amongst selected first year students. This committee attended events hosted by the SCC SID office, that handled different topics regarding leadership and even had a stall in Lover’s Lane during Disability Awareness Week, to spread awareness about Multiple Sclerosis.
The senior committee was an initiative to educate and inspire senior Kasteel ladies that were interested in standing for the HC and other NWU leadership structures. A quite successful initiative as 4 ladies in this committee went on to become a part of Kasteel’s House Committee of 2024/2025!
Matshidiso believes that the SID portfolio is a great way to educate students on the leadership structures of the university, and that it is still a relatively new portfolio that can still reach even greater heights. Matshidiso would like to give a special thanks to her Leave a Legacy committee, she truly valued the time spent together; and how proud she is of the senior SID committee.
