In the midst of separating from her wife, Jay attempts to move across the country to start her life over again. She stops in the middle to stay with her high school best friend who she used to be secretly in love with, and befriends a charismatic gay man who has long given up on love. Struggling to move forward with the next chapter of her life, memories of the past resurface as Jay grapples with the inevitable cycles of love, loss, and letting go.

Michelle Ehlen has directed, produced, written, and acted in five award-winning features, including the first lesbian comedy trilogyButch Jamie, Heterosexual Jill, and S&M Sally. With a focus on comedy, much of her work satirizes gender, sexuality, stereotypes, and identity. Her work has screened in over 100 festivals worldwide and has been acquired by Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, LOGO, and HereTV. She has won 20 awards including the Director’s Award from Out Film CT, Best Feature from the Chicago LGBTQ Film Festival, and Best Actress from Outfest Los Angeles. Maybe Someday is her fifth feature and first dramedy.

On a hot summer day, Paloma (played by transgender actress Keka Sena) decides to fulfil her most cherished dream: a traditional wedding in a church with her boyfriend Zé. She is a devoted mother, a hard-working farmhand in a papaya plantation and has been saving to afford the celebration. The priest’s refusal to marry her and Zé will force Paloma to confront the rural society. She suffers violence, betrayal, prejudice and injustice but nothing shakes the faith and determination of this transgender woman.

Marcelo Gomes is an award-winning film director, screenwriter and visual artist. His debut film, Cinema, Aspirins and Vultures (2005) screened at Cannes (Un Certain Regard) and received France’s National Education Prize. His feature film Viajo Porque Preciso, Volto Porque Te Amo (I Travel Because I Have to, I Come Back Because I Love You), which he co-directed with Karim Aïnouz, premiered at Venice (Orizzonti). His films Joaquim and Waiting for the Carnival have screened at the Berlinale.

Mama Bears explores this growing movement through the lives of three diverse mothers and their LGBTQ+ children.

Daresha Kyi is an Emmy Award-winning director who also writes and produces film and television in Spanish and English. A former fellow in the Firelight Media Documentary, Chicken & Egg Eggcelerator, Creative Capital, and A Blade of Grass programs, Daresha has an extensive background producing content for FX, WE, AMC, Telemundo, and FUSE, among other networks. She is renowned for films like Georgia Going Blue; and Trans in America: Texas Strong which won the News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Documentary as well as two Webby Awards.
