Middle East Power’s Projects at Jiyeh and Zouk Power Plants, Lebanon In January 2017, Middle East Power entered into a contract agreeing to operate and maintain Lebanon’s Jiyeh 78 MW and Zouk 198 MW Reciprocating Engine Power Plants for a five-year period.

A

fter being commissioned in July 2016, the two power plants were subsequently shut down for almost seven months without preservation activities or precautions.

Middle East Power took control of the plants, flushing the systems, conducting mechanical cleaning of the facilities’ waste heat recovery boilers, and rectifying design issues overlooked by the contractor.

The company also reserviced all out of service equipment, enabling the plants to start operating again, as well as procuring necessary spare parts and addressing the lack of computerised maintenance management software – another issue overlooked by the contractors.

After a year of successful operation, Middle East Power’s diligent, relentless work – combined with the company’s radical goal-orientated approach – has resulted in 98% availability of the Jiyeh and Zouk power plants year-round, exceeding the contractual objective of 92.5%, culminating in an additional supply of approximately 133 GWh in the first year of operation.
