College is the pathway to success! Well at least that’s what we’ve all been told. It’s repeatedly beaten into our heads that college is the best direction to achieve success, so we throw our God given talents in the backseat and drive towards a career option in high demand. We’re expected to spend 2-8 So, throughout late night studyI totally disagree with college being the gateway to success based on my own college experience. It’s beyond overrated and honestly it’s the biggest scam on the planet. Society displays College as a safe way to success for its own financial gain. I mean think about it, you go to college to accumulate a sizable amount of debt for a career that doesn’t even pay you half the amount of your owed student loans. Where’s the benefit in this? It’s crazy that college students are required to take pricey elective courses as a condition to graduate. That’s a total waste of MONEY! In addition, graduates are given a 10 year repayment schedule to payoff their loans and most of the time this isn’t suitable. That’s absurd!

years of our time preparing for a promised career which truthfully isn’t guaranteed, and it can take ten plus years to repay our debt? Yep! Absolutely! According to CNBC. com, more than 40% of graduates end up accepting jobs that don’t even require a college degree, now that’s a hard pill to swallow!

Paris, what about Doctors and Lawyers? Their careers require a college degree and we definitely can’t have just anyone partaking in those positions. Agreed, so why not throw out the first two years of college courses and get down to the juicy stuff, as constructed in vocational schools? You wanna know why? College is only necessary for obtaining a career due to the preparation it provides on practicing self discipline in order to land a legitimate career that you can clearly follow directions.

ing, plethora of finals exams taken, and the high stress levels attained to complete 120 required credits, is it honestly necessary to attend college to obtain a successful career?

First and foremost success to me is identical to happiness. How will you know the major chosen will even be satisfying? The greater part of your college journey consist of book training instead of hands on training. Once you reach the point of taking your first class in your chosen major, you’ve already given away two plus years of precious time and borrowed thousands. We have way too many creators in this world with brilliant ideas that could possibly advance society, but unfortunately many of them have turned into followers Jen Welter, NFL’s first female coach states “ If you want to be successful in this world, you have to follow your passion, not a paycheck.” This is sooo true!

College is unable to teach these type of skills because success starts inside of us bottom line! No one will ever work harder than someone who’s driven by passion. If you feel college isn’t for you don’t get discouraged. Meditate in search for your purpose by reverting inward, and digging deep so that you can shine bright like a diamond as Rhianna would say. Wait! Hold up Paris, if I choose not to attend college what other options do I have? Plenty! I’ll give you two. As a millennial, I believe that it’s more beneficial to attend vocational school or invest in a self hustle instead of going to college. Taking up a trade is another route that provides a more hands on practice. If you decide to switch up, no worries it’s much easier to move on to the next thing. I myself made a rash decision my junior year of high school by choosing a Dental Hygiene major for college and ignoring my talent as a writer. I was advised that it was almost impossible to make a living as a writer because your success level is determined by the opinion of others. This altered me to believe that the medical industry had the potential to provide great security due to its high demand and of course we can’t forget it’s great salary. Two years after taking basic college courses I begin to question whether my true motives were a good match with the dental industry. I then decided to take another pathway by enrolling into a dental institution that provided an eight month program. I completed with a 3.8 GPA and began my job as a Hygiene Assistant to only find out that this career was definitely not for me! Not only did I dodge 4 to 6 years of wasted time, and stacked student loans, I gained a little dental knowledge during the process. Security wasn’t a good enough reason to astray from my purpose. I mean lets keep it real, none of these jobs really provide security with the fact that you can be dropped at any given minute. Under the employment at will doctrine, an employer can generally fire an employee for any to no reason at all. Now let that sink in! After trying all of my options such as college and even taking a short cut to enroll in an institution, I realized that I should have taken my passion more seriously from the beginning. If I had the chance to repeat, I would have worked after high school and saved more money while living with my parents. Do you know how much money I could’ve saved within those years without student loan debt?! This would’ve been great assistance to build my brand which could’ve moved me further along towards entrepreneurship. Hey everything happens for a reason right? As of now I am working in corporate America along side others who have college degrees unlike myself. I continue to build my brand as a Screenwriter, blogger, and poet and I can honestly say that I am working towards having the most successful career a girl could ever ask for.

Don’t let

What kind of business did you start under 500.00? I am in the childcare industry. My business started with zero down. It was my passion that opened the door for me to be self employed as a Nanny/Sitter.

What made you choose your current career? In 1999 I worked as a preschool teacher at a well known daycare center. After a year of working with children 8 hours a day and coming home to help my own children with home work... going to parent/teacher meetings, preparing dinner and other task, this became more of a chore for me than what I was called to be which is a mother and a wife. Realizing I had to choose, I chose to be a full time mother instead of regretting having to do both. Fast Forward in 1999, I was out and about and I was stopped by a mother who was seeking childcare for her 5 month old son in her home. She then asked me if I would be interested in working with her as a nanny. This blew my mind and I proceeded to give my 2 weeks notice. It was at this point that I knew that I needed to get business

cards & start putting my information online with sites like Sittercity. com. I also realized that this is what I wanted to do full time.

“...AT THIS POINT I KNEW...” What is unique about your business? The unique thing about my business is that I am able to serve families all over metro Georgia who need child care services in their home. I was even saving marriages on the brink of divorce because the parents were now able to go out and spend time with each other. One thing I know is, a healthy marriage will result in a healthy family.

If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

My advice to all that would like to be a business owner is... Have a purpose and passion in serving others. Be the best team leader that you can be. Know what you want in life. Pursue it. Dream it. Speak it. Go get it with the intent of being a successful business owner. Let it be your passion. Pray about it and make sure that your only reason for wanting to be a business owner is not money. If your passion isn’t in place and you’re just after money you’re not doing yourself nor the people you serve any justice. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says, whatever your hands find to do, do it as unto the lord. We are Gods people and we are serving others. When we start to serve to our best abilities, we will not only get rewarded here on earth but will also be rewarded in heaven.

Human Connections:

Technology and Dating Carey B. Fulks Jr. I recently overheard a conversation. A man and a woman were debating who ruined dating. The woman contended that men aren’t chivalrous anymore and the man stated that women allow men to get away with that kind of behavior. There is merit on both ends, but I believe that the insertion of social dating apps have pushed the most fervent “old-school” daters into a new wave of technology that has moved the face of dating partners from in person to onscreen. The face of dating has changed over the last decade. With the rise of social media, i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the long forgotten MySpace, the world has become smaller. You can live in the United States and communicate with Australia without the help of express mail. However, when it comes to dating, the trickledown effect these sites have has been greatly felt, and the generational gap has never been more distinct than when it comes to finding love. Hookup apps like Tinder have paved the way from where others have left off to create this new technological landscape. Even hardcore dating sites like eHarmony, Match and OkCupid have had to enter the app culture that Millenials have embraced as the new normal. This streamlined process allows patrons to find love, or some form of it, and start conversations that inevitably lead to the bedroom or down an altar. Bumble, a newer dating app, gives women control by allowing them to make the first move. This takes the pressure off of them to respond unless genuinely interested in a potential partner. Some see this as an equalizer in dating culture, yet the focus isn’t always on the person. It remains on the screen and the instant gratification that comes when you match with someone. The interest that a person expresses in you is only as deep as you allow it to go, especially when the next match is just one swipe away.

The rise of technology has forced what was once a face to face exchange, or at the very least, a phone call, into the recesses of the past. Today people text, drop emoji’s and slide into DM’s when they want to pursue a romantic partner. The intimacy of dating has all but been forgotten. It is important and sometimes necessary for science to advance, but the detriment of human connection is far too great a price to pay for that advancement. On the other hand, the recklessness of bad daters and the proclivity of predators to hide amongst the masses have also been enhanced thanks to the rise of technology. People error and that fault shouldn’t be held against them; still, dating sites don’t do much to deter this behavior, especially when you can block a person and move on to the next. Users don’t even have to face their bad dating habits until they are face to face with someone, and it is so much easier to find someone else when technology has given us that power. Unfortunately, some like to revel in that power. Serial predators use dating apps as their hunting grounds to weed out the emotionally vulnerable from the discerning dater. This happens in part due to the desensitization we have to violence{i}.

This stunts the psychological process from maturing and forcing the deterioration of a truly intimate relationship. People don’t make the connection that others are hurt by their actions. This causes disagreements to escalate and if a face to face meeting takes place, the energy already generated by the online exchange will prove volatile, and maybe even deadly. So how do we combat this? I believe the first step is to acknowledge your own faults and reassess your expectations and goals. If you choose to use the internet and dating apps to find a long term relationship, then realize that another human is on the other side of the computer and desires a connection just as you. Human decency isn’t the same across the board, but it can be if we choose to always act with kindness, understanding and wisdom, as we seek a deeper connection with each other, we can discern in people the desired traits we seek. What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you. Let’s continue the conversation on Twitter. Reach me @Cupidsheart99. I’ll be waiting.

OF MUSIC Super Producer Composer Artist, Philanthropist Entrepreneur CEO Living legend When it comes to setting standard, Drumma Boy takes the cake. This Memphis native was taught “The Game at an early age. He used that knowledge to maneuver through the music industry ultimately becoming a trailblazer and building an empire. His discipline and incredible work ethic has afforded him the lifestyle that many of us only dream of. To reach this level of success, it takes continuous dedication to your craft and your brand.

The spark Spark was inspired to leave his hometown in order to further enhance his career. He believes that being able to move around is vital to hustling in the music industry. It was in high school that Spark discovered his love for oral enhancements. He firmly believes in the saying “it takes money to make money” so he used his knowledge and skill as an Enhancement Specialist to generate an impressive income at an early age. Spark doesn’t like things to be forced. Instead of going into the studio to listen to a beat and write, he prefers to sit with the beat at home and write then go to the studio prepared to go straight into the booth.

Seeing the OGs in the “game” has greatly influenced the way he currently moves. This future CEO has been able to see the importance of having multiple streams of income. His family loves how my career is developing. “My mom can’t stay off of my facebook. She’s all in the comments… all down my page (laughs).” If Spark wasn’t an artist, he’s sure he’d be a full time Oral Enhancement Specialist. The world is closely watching the development of the young King known as SparkDawg. His enthusiasm, skill and raw talent are sure to yield much greatness for years to come. Drumma Boy wanted a specific date for his brothers’ dedication album so he worked vigorously to ensure that everything was in place. He stresses the importance of relationships as well as being able to call on his network to ensure that this project would be completed effectively and efficiently. The super producer feels that being awarded 2 Grammys is comparable to having 2 championship rings. He truly enjoys being able to bless others. Seeing the youth, or “the future” as he likes to call it, gravitate towards the music he produces gives him “the best feeling in the world” Outside of work, Drumma Boy, a self proclaimed “Gamer” spends his downtime playing video games, basketball, and most importantly spending time with those that are closest to him. His big brother heavily influenced and inspired him to be an entrepreneur by taking him to the studio and introducing him to the legendary producers at that time.

What intrigued him most about spark is he noticed Sparks grind and the way he hustles outside of being a talented artist. The CEO recalls his manager telling him,” All you’ve got to do is make is out of Memphis.” He emphasizes that it is not as easy as it sounds but he was determined to succeed. He came to Atlanta with 1000.00 and through networking he was able to secure a place to live. The challenge would be generating enough income to continue to live there. At this point it was fight or flight. He ultimately sold some beats which allowed him to pay his rent and began to create the life he wanted. He feels that its all about the hustle. “In one way, one form or fashion, imma make it happen” he continues by saying, “It’s all about sacrifices. If you ain’t willing’ to put it all on the line… regardless of how much talent you’ve got, it’s just not gonna happen.”

Check out Drumma Boy’s new projects entitled “My Brothers Keeper” and The Collective” My Brothers Keeper is a dedication project to his late brother who transitioned on February 10th of last year. The King & Eye D

34 year old media mogul David Rivers is creating quite the stir with his most recent project entitled “The Answer.” Rivers says that he has always been creative and remembers building forts and creating things with his equally creative brother Karey. His interest in acting sparked him to take an acting class which enhanced his love for the Arts. He soon noticed an increase in “gospel plays” and it inspired him to take a deeper look.

The Answer

When a city is infested by crime, a notorious gangster makes an unlikely friend and changes the community.

After expressing his passion for the growing trend to his mother Essie Rivers, she confidently suggested that he write his own play. The cliche’ “mother knows best” seems to fit perfectly here. Once he graduated high school he joined a military college. Rivers was contemplating joining a branch of the service or even moving to Atlanta. He finally decided to get into film at SCAD University. He also joined a church that allowed him to develop and master his craft. This creative genius is a Savannah College of Art and Design graduate with a degree in film and television major. He has literally stepped out on faith and his gifts have made room for him. He accredits his explosive success and his abundance of favor to his deep spiritual roots.

Savannah College of Art and Design graduate David Rivers is pictured here being interviewed at WTOC11 in Savannah, Ga. Rivers wrote and directed the film “The Answer,” which opened Nov. 30,2018 at the Royal Cinemas .

His advice for upcoming creators is to “literally, just do it!” Using himself as an example, the media mastermind suggest that, “whatever you want to do, get it in your heart, get it in your mind, pray about it and just do it!” Many critics agree that this driven, spiritually focused King has exactly what it takes to build an incredible kingdom and to be known internationally as one of the greatest of all times.

Editor's Note From the creator’s desk

Know that you are capable.... There will be times in life that things may not be in the best of seasons. Money may not be up to par, friends or individuals we allow ourselves to rely on, could very well not be available to lend a helping hand for some reason. In the toughest times of life, know that you have been given the proper tools and equipment needed to acquire what’s necessary; know that you’re capable. You King, you Queen, are the epitome of what success looks like. Success looks like you when you’re able to get up in the morning, by pressing your way to work even when you don’t feel like it. Success looks like you when someone says, “you can’t reach that goal” and you do. Success looks like you when all odds have placed against you and what you deemed to be impossible, was accomplished with not just the steady hand of God, or our supreme being but also accompanied by your efforts, will to do, and strength. No matter what the situation calls for or any approach life could possibly toss at you.....Know my beloved, that you are capable. “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me..”
