ollaboration between Knauf and strategic industry partners has produced a unique innovation for the façades market, the Knauf ThroughWall. The system combines quality products that give Knauf the unique advantage of being able to specify the façade infill panel through to the internal partitions. The complete Knauf ThoughWall infill façade system is a well-researched and developed product, designed for concrete and steel frame buildings above 18m in height. It can be used on a wide variety of applications including residential, commercial, healthcare, education, offices and leisure, for new build as well as refurbishment. Developed by Knauf – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of lightweight building materials and systems – the system is the first in the industry to be supplied by a single manufacturer. This offers architects a single point of contact to provide the complete external and internal specification. By using a single specification for both internal and external elements, Knauf, and Knauf alone, will be responsible for providing a resolution to any issues arising during the project. With separate design details, blame for problems is often shifted from one manufacturer to another, delaying the project and increasing costs. In addition, the ThroughWall solution has the added

benefit of being supported by a range of insurance-backed Knauf warranties. Durable and high quality engineered components of Knauf ThroughWall deliver excellent acoustic, thermal, fire performance properties and airtightness levels, all while insuring greater sustainability due to Knauf’s responsible manufacturing credentials. ThroughWall was designed as an infill panel solution only, meaning that it can be finished with a number of external façade materials including a range of Knauf renders. The full system comprises the

Knauf Internal Plasterboard, Knauf Mineral Wool Insulation, Knauf SFS, Knauf Windliner and Knauf PIR Insulation. Knauf Windliner is a gypsum-based external grade sheathing board that provides protection against weather elements and offers an excellent level of air-tightness. Suitable for use above 18m, the ThroughWall has met the requirements set out in Annex B of BRE 135 and has successfully passed the test as per British Standard 8414-2. The benefit of using Knauf PIR Insulation above 18m is that it allows for a reduction in the wall thickness of the external envelope, thus creating greater internal spaces, ideal for residential developments. Simplifying the design and specification process for architects has been a major goal for Knauf and its Research and Development team. With ThroughWall, Knauf has produced a solution that will not only facilitate this process but will also provide quality assurances to housebuilders and architects. By combining the internal and external specifications into one, simpleto-understand solution, Knauf has taken some of the hassle out of the specification process.
