Dr. Carlson is a graduate from University of Minnesota Dental School and has over 10 years experience working in general family practice, special needs adults, and community based outreach clinics. Certified educators and/or people interested in substitute teaching (K-12, ALC) and/or substituting as paraprofessionals in the Mora School District are invited to attend an informational meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015:

2-3:30 p.m. Mora High School Media Center 3:30-5:00 p.m. Optional Break Out Sessions (Choose HS updates, elementary updates, and technology) **Those in attendance will get 2 appreciation gifts and get paid for their attendance at the training after their first day of subbing. Remember that the substitute teacher rate of pay was increased last year to $110.** The Minnesota Legislature, recognizing the shortage of teachers in our state, provides a procedure for people holding four-year college degrees (BA or higher) whereby they may apply for “Limited Licensure”. Completion of this procedure through the state department provides a person with the licensure necessary to serve as a short-call substitute teacher in Minnesota schools whether or not (s)he has a teaching degree.

At the meeting August 12, you will receive information regarding District policies and procedures.

All building principals will be on hand to respond to any questions or concerns you may have.

We encourage all prospective substitute teachers and prospective substitute paraprofessionals to attend this informational meeting – don’t forget to bring along a copy of your current licenses or certificates!

District Wide New Student Registration Information Welcome to Mora Public Schools! New student registration is just around the corner, so mark your calendar for August 11 & 12, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for grades 7-11 at the High School. If registering a student PreK to 6th grade please contact the prospective elementary school for summer office hours.

In Mora Public Schools, the registration process is important not to miss out on! Any students new to the Mora District are asked to register on these days so they can receive individualized attention and all their questions can be answered. Registration can be done at the main office of the prospective school your child will be attending; waiting until Open House to register makes it difficult to get student records and information in time to start on the first day of school.

AUG. 9 SOKOL CAMP BOOYA & PICNIC The 85th annual Sokol Camp Booya & Picnic will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9 at the Sokol Camp on the northeast corner of Cross Lake in Pine City. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m. Food available includes booya (a hearty soup/stew), meatloaf sandwiches, cabbage rolls, Czech sausage, hot dogs and kolacky (Czech pastries).

There will be fun and games for children, music, the Czech-Slovaka Folk Dancers in full Czech costume, and more. Th is event is open to the public and free to attend. There will be signs posted in Pine City to guide people to the event. There’s plenty of dock and shoreline space for those arriving by boat, as well.

MILDRED R. BREDENBERG Mildred Ruth “Penny” Steck Bredenberg died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015 at the St. Clare Living Community, in Mora with her family by her side. She was 89 years old.

She was born March 8, 1926 in Texico, Kan. to Eric and Caroline Steck. She spent a majority of her life caring for and serving others.
