So why is the Mora School Board still planning to conduct Referendum No. 7?

What’s your guess? Is it because school leaders see an opportunity to get the vote they want?

Many seniors will not risk going to a crowded polling site, and many election judges may refuse to serve. Where will that get us? Included here is a letter to Governor Tim Walz, asking that the governor’s of¿ce step in and cancel referendum No. 7. We need every citizen to write to Governor Walz requesting this referendum be canceled.

Independent School District 332 is determined to hold a school referendum in early May of this year, in spite of community demands that the election be postponed or canceled. The majority of Kanabec County voters consists of senior citizens (62%) who will likely boycott the referendum due to the danger of contracting the Coronavirus.

Everyone will be at risk. A better plan is to postpone the referendum to coincide with the presidential election in November.

I recognize by your words announcing the “stay at home” order that you care about the people of Kanabec County, as well as all the people of Minnesota.

The intent of this letter is to solicit your support to intervene and suspend the referendum scheduled for May 12, 2020.

MORA FOOD PANTRY RECEIVES $4,477 GRANT Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless has granted Mora Food Pantry with $4,477 to serve additional individuals and families facing food insecurity.

Funding from Open Your Heart will provide Mora Food Pantry with a new produce cooler.

Mora Food Pantry has served the Kanabec County area since 1984.

Currently, they are serving around 280 families a month.

MORA CITY FACILITIES, PLAYGROUNDS CLOSED Due to COVID-19 and Governor Tim Walz’ stay-at-home executive order, all City of Mora/Mora Municipal Utility facilities (city hall, utility buildings, fi re hall, Mora Public Library) will be closed to the public through Friday, April 10.

All events and public meetings scheduled for the City will be canceled through April 10, including the April 7 Airport Board meeting.

The city also closed all playgrounds until further notice.

Park users are asked to stay off the fencing around play structures during the closure.

The city trail system remains open. Trail users should avoid group activities, group play such as games on athletic fields, and adhere to social distancing and appropriate hygiene practices.

PROPERTY TAXES DUE MAY 15 While the Kanabec County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office is closed for the health of taxpayers and staff, please note that Kanabec County Property Taxes are still due May 15, 2020. These taxes are not to be confused with the income tax deadline extended to July 15, 2020.

Th is shortage may cause consumers to use alternative products such as paper towels, facial tissues, baby wipes, disposable wipes, and other similar items. These products — even those labeled “flushable” — do not break down like toilet paper and can clog pipes, leading to sewer backups and costly repairs.

DNR POSTS BURNING RESTRICTIONS MN department of Natural Resources, contributed Warmer temperatures and drier conditions in central, east-central and southeast Minnesota mean increased wildfire risk, so the DNR is restricting open burning in the following east -central counties effective immediately: Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Pine.

The state will not issue burning permits for brush or yard waste in these counties until restrictions are lifted. A variance permit may be obtained for special agricultural, industrial or management circumstances like a prescribed burn.

Additional burning restrictions will be added as conditions change.
