Old Wardour Castle, built in the 14th century with turrets to climb, grottos to explore and landscaped gardens to wander around; and Muchelney Abbey to see the only complete thatched monks’ lavatory in England (amongst other things!). Day 7 After a hectic week exploring the countryside, your last day should be spent relaxing on Somerset Waterways with Future Perfect Boat Trips (http://www.swdt. org.uk/) , exploring the canals, waterways and enjoying the scenery. With so much to do in the region, a certain amount of planning is important, but when you stay in a family-run B&B, the advantage is local knowledge, time to talk and an interest in the local area which is enthusiastically imparted to any guests showing interest. Day 4 One for the boys! Explore West Somerset by Steam Train (www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk) Take the steam train from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead then enjoy a visit to the harbour and historic ships or a day at the beach! The website details each station passed along the way, and what can be seen if you chose to get off and explore. A great day out without having to drive! Day 5 Everyone loves an amusement park,

and Brean Leisure Park is the largest in the South West. 30 fantastic rides for large and small kids, from river boat rides to thrilling roller coasters, pony rides to dodgems. There is even a water park with swimming pool complex and four water chutes, so take the swimwear, just in case the weather is kind. Day 6 A day out exploring castles and heritage sites is perfect in any weather. Within driving distance of Taunton you can find the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge;
