In 1871, Hajj Ali el Zein, the great grand father of Kalimat's founder, approached the Ottoman governor in today’s Lebanon for a license to publish a periodical, Al-Irfan, Arabic for a form of wisdom. His application was successful. By the first decade of the twentieth century, Al-Irfan had become one of the most widely-read current affairs monthlies in the Levant. In 1911, Hajj Ali's son Ahmed Aref, published another magazine, Mount Amel weekly, followed shortly after by Al-Elem, one of the earliest science periodicals in the Middle-East. The tradition continued throughout the twentieth century with the grandfather of Kalimat's founder becoming a writer, historian and literary critic, and his own father launching a publishing house in Beirut in the eighties. The founder Hekmat el Zein, with a group of partners, has gained a cumulative experience in the field of communication by working regionally and internationally in the fields of journalism, NGO campaigning, media, online, marketing and corporate communication.

Kalimat Group International FZ LLC established in 2005 a communication division focusing on corporate image and reputation management. Its purpose is to improve the outcome of the business and its image. The term corporate communication is defined as the method used by a corporation to communicate with staff (Internal) and relay information between the corporation and the public (External). The traditional ways that companies have communicated with consumers include public relations and advertising. Internal Communication helps boost company morale and creates a solid corporate culture by enhancing communication among employees or departments across all levels or divisions. Internal communication is a form of corporate communication and can be formal or informal, upward, downward, or horizontal. It can take various forms such as team briefing, interviewing employee, group work, meetings, memos, intranet, newsletters and reports... External communication helps the exchange of information and messages between an organization and other organizations, groups, or individuals outside its formal structure. The goals of external communication are to facilitate cooperation with groups such as customers, suppliers, investors and stockholders, and to present a favorable image of an organization and its products or services to potential and actual customers. A variety of channels may be used for external communication, including face-to-face meetings, print or broadcast media, and electronic technologies such as the Internet. External communication includes the fields of PR, media relations, advertising, and marketing.
