Be inspired and fascinated

WELCOME TO KÄHLER’S CERAMIC UNIVERSE Welcome to a new chapter in the story about Kähler’s inspirational universe! This year, we will be presenting a collection of modern ceramic design based on our almost 200-year-long history and designed by some of today’s greatest designers, ceramists and artists. Since 1839, it has been Kähler’s mission to create accessible art to the people, and we take pride in keeping that mission alive more than 175 years later. This being the case, this collection presents all-new tableware, the Hammershøi tableware, which has not only been inspired by the very greatest artist of the old Kähler workshop, but also continues the mission of beautiful useful and timeless ceramic arts for all design lovers. The collection also presents to you well-known classics in new clothes and Nordic colours, fitting in beautifully with the modern home and creating style and atmosphere. With this collection, Kähler once again succeeds in challenging materials and ceramics and bringing them together at a modern and exciting meeting. The elegant ceramics meet the natural and heavy look of wood, and, for the first time, Kähler this year presents the material glass, which, in interaction with the ceramics and the wood, creates a bond between the inspirational base materials of Nordic nature. With the new Hammershøi tableware, Kähler opens the door to a brand new and exciting adventure, which really puts Kähler on the map as a supplier of lifelong and timeless tableware. Designed by Hans-Christian Bauer, the Hammershøi tableware is – with its obvious historical references, Nordic colours and modern look – fantastic versatile tableware that will delight and be collected by design lovers throughout life. To complete the experience of Kähler’s inspirational and sensuous universe, you can visit Kähler’s four design restaurants to discover ceramics interacting with gastronomic magic at a high level. It is our hope that you will explore the collection and be inspired and thrilled by the authentic universe of arts, handicraft and quality for which Kähler has been renowned for nearly 200 years. All the best from all of us at Kähler Design

LOVE SONG DESIGN JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT AND DITTE RECKWEG

Love Song is a unique and modern series of vases in earthenware and makes the perfect wedding gift or hostess gift for design lovers. The wonderful vases are beautiful in raw earthenware and match sublimely with the current trends in natural materials. The earthenware vases are thematically tied together by and decorated with the lyrics from four of the most iconic love songs; “Love Me Tender”, “All You Need Is Love”, “It Had to Be You” and “I Got You Babe”. The vase catches the eye with the extremely exciting dynamics between the warm and bright words and its raw and natural material. The beautiful Love Song vases with natural, Nordic and contemporary colours give the songs a brand new sound and create an exciting interplay between text, colour and material. The raw and unglazed surface is elegantly offset by a transparent glaze on the inside. The vases are perfect both in tableaux and on their own. The Love Song vases are available in classic chalk white and in breathtaking colours such as rose, indigo, sand and anthracite grey.

BELLINO DESIGN JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT AND DITTE RECKWEG

Kähler’s storage jar series, Bellino, has swiftly made the top of many women’s wish lists. The series boasts a delicious and sophisticated colour universe of seven colours. The design is simple and balanced, which together with the many beautiful colours of the storage jars creates a wonderfully authentic and modern look. One of the colour universes is natural and Nordic with graceful shades of purple, grey and brown. This is complimented by a colour universe composed of two diverse colour palettes: a delicate and sophisticated pastel universe with storage jars in light grey and rose and a powerful and deep colour universe in grey, green and dark green. Together, the different glazes boost the myriad applications and the value of the series as a modern decoration and easily add an exclusive look to any interior design. The storage jars are fantastic for decorative storage, but can also be used in a charming tableau on your office desk, in the bathroom or on your bedroom shelf. Use the wonderful storage jars as treasure chests for your favourite items – put your earrings inside on your night table, use them to store your makeup in the bathroom or adorn your living room with the beautiful ceramic jars.

BOTANICA VASES DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

The beautiful, voluminous Botanica vases in faience are designed for the modern home, a series of ceramics that splendidly balances between the functionality and aesthetics of ceramics. The Botanica vases are available in several gorgeous, but also enigmatic and almost indefinable colours. Barbara Bendix Becker explains their marvellous colour universe: “The colours we work with include the diversity of all the grey tones, which means that the vase takes its colour from the flower you put in it and particularly its surroundings”. Practically, the bottom of the vase has been designed with grooves that support stems and sprays for easy arrangement.

BOTANICA MINI DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

With their Nordic and transparent colour universe, the large, beautiful Botanica vases have won wide popularity and found their way into many homes. Botanica mini is a playful and imaginative mini version of the beautiful voluminous vases and perfectly matches today’s hottest interior design trends. The exquisitely dusty and almost enigmatic colour universe matches gracefully with the clear organic shape of the vases that perfectly adorn the modern home. The matching glaze of the small vases gracefully highlights the beauty of the ceramic material, making them a super-aesthetic eye catcher in the home. The simple colours and shapes give the charming series of mini vases something raw and natural, which engenders an unconventional and marvellous Nordic look. The vases are also available in a pack.

BOTANICA MINIATURE DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

For more than 100-years, K채hler has joined the table at all Scandinavian festive seasons. This tradition continues with these beautiful small collections of Botanica vases that make for a wonderful design surprise on the dinner table, at the summer party or other festive gatherings. The small vases maintain the elegance and sculptural idiom that characterises the remaining Botanica series and are therefore also beautiful on their own. At the same time, the miniature sets complement each other when joined in colourful and exclusive design tableaux. Pick the first spring flowers and put them in the vases at the centre of the table as a classic centrepiece or let them add decorative charm at every place setting as a personal design treat for your dinner guests. Botanica miniature comes in a light and dark set.

BOTANICA DISHES DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

Historically, Kähler is recognised for its work with glazes and colours, and these craftsmanship and aesthetic qualities still shine through the entire Botanica series. The design dish clearly reveals its kinship with the existing Botanica series, yet it further unfolds and opens up to its surroundings. The material is faience and the glaze is transparent, which gives the new dish a vibrant and interesting look. The design matches perfectly with the other Botanica designs, but can also be used as a design piece in its own right. The colours are developed as an extension of the treasured colours from the remaining Botanica series, and the new dish is available in graceful cool grey, grey-green and blue-green. Let the design dish bring life to your home and see how the surrounding colours are reflected in the vivid glazes.

STORIES OF EVE DESIGN LOUISE HINDSGAVL

For a long time we have focused on furniture and small interior design items when we invest in our home, but now there is a need for personal stories with all their quirks to fill your home. Once again, we have room for items that do not serve a practical purpose but which satisfies our desire for decorative items, for art that provokes and puts cultural radicalism back on the agenda. Historically, K채hler has been known for its figurines. And now, a cooperation with the artist and ceramist Louise Hindsgavl has pulled this somewhat forgotten tradition into the spotlight again in a fine balance between contemporary trends and the always titillating provocations of art. Moreover, K채hler has a vision to make art accessible also when it comes to price. The three figurines are made as numbered, one-of-a-kind objects in glazed porcelain.

FIDUCIA DESIGN LOUISE CAMPBELL

Fiducia rethinks the vase and candlestick into a stylistically intriguing and experimental design object where the individual elements can be combined in various ways by means of the magnets placed in their little “arms”. The design is clean, simple and strong and therefore perfectly matches the modern home. Fiducia’s design is characterised by slightly bulky and naive shapes reminiscent of the charming tumblers. The playful idiom makes Fiducia a delight to the eye when filled with candles and the flowers of the season – regardless of whether they have their permanent place on the window sill or you use them as part of your table setting for special occasions. Fiducia is the Italian word for trust – and that is how it is with these vases and candlesticks: They belong together as a family and cannot stand on their own. They almost appear to float when they are on the table because of their special design.

OFFICINA DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

Move Kähler’s ceramic universe into a brand new space and let the beautiful design surprise and inspire. The Kähler series of indispensible design for the home office is so stylish and exciting at the same time that it might be hard to put down your work. The design of the elements is rustic and edgy as if carved directly from a rock, and the colours are elegant, aesthetic and exciting. The fine glaze catches the lights and shadows of the surroundings and gives it a vibrant and changeable idiom. The Officina series consists of a bookend, pen holder, tape holder, storage jar and letter holder. Use one of the objects to add a modern touch to the home office, or let them decorate the kitchen or dining room table when you move your workstation around the house.

ORA DESIGN JONAS TRAMPEDACH AND BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN

When the Ora clock hangs on your wall, you can enjoy watching the convex numbers that cast discrete shadows round the edge of the clock every day. The contrast between the ceramics and the plexiglass hands gives the simple wall clock an edge and a modern design. The stringent and modern appearance is free of unnecessary details – precisely because the purpose is to make Ora a functional and stylish useful object. The purity characterising the design blurs the traditional boundary between what is masculine and what is feminine. So you will see that Ora has a sculptural element that appeals to both genders and makes the clock not just a practical useful object on the wall, but blends in as part of your personal interior design and décor. With the new colours pale rose and pigeon blue, Kähler has reinvented the look to create a meeting between the stylish and classic idiom and the two modern, almost pop colours. Ora is available in four different colours and in two sizes: Ø200 and Ø300.

ORA TABLE CLOCK DESIGN JONAS TRAMPEDACH AND BIRGITTE DUE MADSEN

The small Ora table clock has inherited its stringent and stylish look from the popular wall clocks in the same series, but this new design gem surprises with its shape and volume. Ora’s surface is classically circular, but the clock has much more to offer with its discrete incline and elegant round figure, which gives the table clock body a more vibrant appearance. Accompanied by the black/white look, the clock becomes a cool and graphical useful object that matches any home, and with the pale rose and pigeon blue, the table clock is given soul and a modern idiom that serves as an elegant and colourful comment to the other interior. Use the Ora table clock as a decorative piece in your home office, a true design icon in your kitchen or a surprisingly elegant useful object in your living room.

MELLA DESIGN THEIS LORENTZEN

The beautiful Mella is Kähler’s very first ceramic lamp. The design qualities stand bright and clear, and the unique design lamp is a natural bright spot of joyous colours. The ceramic Mella lamp has a clear sculptural value, and its shape is feather light and sweet with distinct retro references. The material is faience, the glaze matt and the colours bright and clear – a lovely small bright sport that spreads joy. The wonderful light fixtures are composed of three parts that in shape and colour form a marvellous and decorative whole. The three parts light up as a graceful splendour of colours in elegant green tones, delicate plum tones and sophisticated blue tones. The colours are dreamy, sweet and easy to apply in your interior design.

Then and now

KÄHLER DESIGN The story about Kähler is the story about a unique design brand, whose roots go back to a small pottery from the early 19th century and which today is one of the leading design firms in the Nordic region. History and traditions are well-preserved in every single handmade and modern design, today still a very large part of the lives of many. The reason is that Kähler is today a clear part of the Danish cultural heritage, but also one of Scandinavia’s most innovative brands, which combines an authentic story with modern design products and Nordic restaurant experiences. At Kähler, we aim every day at uniting our unique cultural heritage and our ambition to be a leader on the scene of ceramic arts, both nationally and internationally. We pick the best from an artistic ceramic heritage and interpret it in a contemporary light. The result is pioneering new ceramics, appealing to a broad audience in a timeless idiom, but individually interpreted.

OMAGGIO DESIGN JELENA SCHOU NORDENTOFT AND DITTE RECKWEG

Omaggio is designed in a stringent and stylish idiom with the distinctive, hand-painted brushstrokes as a contrast to the clean lines. The simple and classic design of Omaggio continues the strong Danish ceramics tradition. Kähler, in particular, has been known to uphold this tradition for many years, and the Omaggio series is the perfect way of showing classic ceramics in a contemporary design. With the Omaggio series, you have a fantastic opportunity to give your home a touch of timelessness. The coarse brushstrokes make you really sense the artist who painted them – you can follow the stroke of the brush across the ceramics, which shows the unbroken ties to craftsmanship over the years. The collection is available in the quite stringent black/white design as well as in various light and bright colours brimming of stylish and contemporary colour exuberance. The collection consists of vases in six sizes, bowls in two sizes, a stylish dish and the classic candlesticks in three sizes. Mix and match all the elements from the Omaggio series in the colours you like the most and let them supplement your personal style of décor.

Omaggio

ICONIC DESIGN VASE WITH A HISTORY The Omaggio series is a modern design classic. The iconic stripes are represented in countless Nordic homes and loved by design enthusiasts all over the world. However, not many people know that the iconic Omaggio vase is in fact an interpretation of the historical Kähler vases from the early and mid 20th century. The modern Omaggio vase was inspired by Tulle Emborg, one of the talented women painters in Kähler’s workshop in the 1930s and 1940s. The Omaggio vase continues some of the handicraft traditions that have been characterising Kähler for more than 175 years. As in the old Kähler workshop, each and every stripe on every single Omaggio vase has been hand-painted by talented women painters, and the Omaggio vases then go through multiple hand processes in connection with glazing, quality checking and fine-polishing. In this way, your Omaggio vase is not only a modern design icon, but also a piece of Nordic cultural history and a unique and powerful reflection of today, which has been reinterpreted and revived by the talented designer duo Stilleben.

Ceramics with history

HANDMADE QUALITY AND UNIQUE DETAILS Every single present-day Kähler design pays tribute to Kähler’s unique history and celebrates the well-preserved handicraft, but is also a powerful reflection of today. The explanation is that the ceramic designs are still handmade as when the Kähler fairytale began back in 1839. Like the women painters decorated the ceramics by hand with cow’s horns at the old Kählersbakken more than one hundred years ago, every single graceful glaze and colour are still meticulously made by adhering to Kähler’s ceramic handicraft traditions. Today, for instance, a Mano cup goes through 12 hand processes after having been cast in the workshop in which it is glazed, quality-checked and fine-polished etc. to become a beautiful useful piece in the end, while maintaining that little detail that makes every single Kähler design unique. When buying Kähler’s design, you thus take a piece of handmade cultural heritage with a personal look and historical details home with you.

HAMMERSHØI DESIGN HANS-CHRISTIAN BAUER

Kähler passes on a true cultural treasure and turns it into modern and contemporary tableware. The Hammershøi tableware is an elegant and simple design tableware with fine historical details in natural, Nordic materials; ceramics, oak and glass. The beautiful Hammershøi tableware comes with decorative furrows, giving it a classic look and letting the glaze flow elegantly and slightly transparently across the vivid idioms of the ceramics. The subtle furrows also have a functional advantage and make the cup good to hold on to and the storage jars easy to open. The beautiful tableware is lifted a trifle from the table so it is stable and has a light hovering elegance, and, in combination with the natural colours white, coral, anthracite, sky and marble, the individual elements turn into small design wonders in themselves. The tableware is perfect for a well-set Sunday brunch table or delicious dinner where the elements will offer the most fantastic and stylistic backdrop to the colourful raw materials.

Ex cep tional design

HAMMERSHØI BRINGS TOGETHER KÄHLER IN THE PAST AND PRESENT Svend Hammershøi was a world-renowned artist attached to Kähler’s workshop from the late 19th century. His works for Kähler won fame far beyond the borders of Denmark and can still be seen at museums around the world. Hammershøi was particularly known for his large, voluminous vases with distinct furrows and beautiful profiles, which he liked to cut by hand. Hammershøi was of unique importance to Kähler. He was the artist attached to Kähler’s workshop for the longest time and his works were produced in the greatest number reaching out to the whole world. Again today, Kähler’s ceramics come with Hammershøi’s hand-carved profiles. The new Hammershøi tableware by outstanding designer Hans-Christian Bauer is based on Hammershøi’s characteristic red clay vases and reinterprets the deep carvings, which on the tableware appear as discrete and elegant on the ceramics. In this way, Hans-Christian Bauer brings together Kähler’s past and present and has created tableware that is so timeless and elegant that it can be used for a lifetime. The Nordic lightness and elegance characterising the Hammershøi tableware are complemented by Nordic materials such as the bulky heavy oak and the fragile glass. The meeting between materials gives the historical Hammershøi tableware an edge and adds interesting details to the ceramic elements. The Hammershøi tableware comes with decorative furrows, giving it a classic look and letting the glaze flow elegantly and slightly transparently across the vivid idioms of the ceramics. The tableware is lifted a trifle from the table so it is stable and has a light hovering elegance, and, in combination with the natural colours white, dark grey, sky blue, coral and marble grey, the individual elements turn into small design wonders in themselves.

MARMITTA DESIGN SØREN THYGESEN

Marmitta is a classic roaster; here in elegant black design where the top and bottom reflect each other. The roaster is an indispensable kitchen utensil when cooking tasty dishes in the oven. The lid helps intensify and keep the good taste of the food, making Marmitta the perfect choice for baking bread and preparing slow-cooking dishes with vegetables, meat and fish. The porous structure of the clay and the lid enclose the contents completely and maintain the heat so that both bread, meat and fish become exceptionally tasteful, crisp and juicy at one and the same time. Marmitta allows you to cook your food over a long period of time and therefore to spend your afternoon taking a walk in the forest or setting a beautiful table for your guests, while the aromas fill your kitchen.

GLOBO DESIGN DORTHE HELM

The Globo candlestick makes a warm and strong statement and matches both the simple and more colourful home with its stringent and defined shape. Globo is created in harmonious and calm earth tones, granite grey and terracotta which are reminiscent of the warm colour scale of fallen leaves and sculptural pebbles on the floor of the Nordic autumn forest. The various sizes and natural warm colours of the candlesticks add a special feel to your home depending on where you use them. The largest of the design candlesticks will give your hallway soul and add a welcoming warmth when placed on the floor. You can also use them as a stylish table decoration on a clean wooden table or as a contemporary advent candlestick. The small candlesticks can be put together to form an elegant and homey tableau on the window sill or on the coffee table.

URBANIA CANDLE HOUSES DESIGN METTE BACHE AND BARBARA BENDIX BECKER

Kähler’s series of handmade ceramic light houses are complemented by three large light houses – three modern light house sure to melt many design hearts. With shimmering lights and lively shadows in the evening darkness of the North, the graceful Urbania light houses bring memories of the warm hospitality of your home. The large light houses are an interpretation of the existing Urbania series and are made of the same, beautiful white-glazed ceramics. The deep white light houses take their natural colour from the clay that has simply been refined with a transparent glaze. The small windows have been carved by hand, just like in the historical Kähler workshop, so that each single shadow and ray of light falls uniquely, when a candle is lit in the house. Let your guests know in the most beautiful way that they are expected by letting the houses adorn your hallway or your windowsill.

World-famous designs

MEET KÄHLER’S TALENTED DESIGNERS Up through the 19th and 20th centuries, the historical Kähler workshop was the rendezvous for many of the all-time greatest Danish artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll and Kai Nielsen not to mention Svend Hammershøi, whose world-famous designs even today lend inspiration to Kähler’s modern design. A great ambition of Kähler’s, Kähler is pleased to be able to continue the more than 175-year-old tradition of working together with contemporary, most significant and talented artists, ceramists and designers. Ceramist Jeanette List Amstrup, the designer duo Stilleben and artist Louise Hindsgavl stand behind some of Kähler’s most popular and innovative products, and, every year, new competent design talents are invited to join the Kähler fairytale. Each individual designer helps give his or her own personal touch to Kähler’s overall look, and that is one of the things that makes Kähler’s ceramic universe so unique.
