It’s hard to believe we’re already in June, with less than a month to go before the end of the school year. While the finish line is in sight, the weeks ahead are filled with exciting events that truly reflect the spirit and diversity of our school.
We’re looking forward to celebrating Constitution Day, International Day, enjoying some friendly competition on Sports Day, and hosting a meaningful visit from the Gajusz Foundation. These events not only bring us together but also give our students the chance to connect, reflect, and give back.
This time of year is also an opportunity to recognise how much our students have achieved and grown over the past months. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, in sports, or simply in how they support one another it’s been a year full of progress and positive steps.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Best wishes,

Over the past few weeks, Year 2 has been busy exploring a range of exciting topics across the curriculum. In English, we began learning about fairy tales, focusing on their structure and key features. We studied Cinderella in detail and used it as inspiration to write our own story openings and character descriptions, using rich adjectives to bring our writing to life. In Maths, we continued working on fractions, learning how to find fractions of numbers, and we are now moving on to telling the time. In Science, we explored electricity by creating simple circuits to see how electrical components work together. Meanwhile, in Art, we have been learning about the work of Vincent Van Gogh and used some of his techniques to create our own beautiful flower paintings.

Last week, we focused on an important and meaningful topic: Mental Health Week. Throughout the week, we explored different strategies to support our mental well-being. Mind Matters: Tips & Insights from the School Psychologist
Children Follow What We Do—Not Just What We Say: The Power of Role Modeling
As parents and educators, we’ve all said things like: “Be nice,” “Say sorry,” or “Wait for your turn ” But how often do children really follow these instructions simply because we said them? The truth is what sticks most with children is not what we tell them, but what we consistently show them
Children are incredibly observant. Even when we think they’re not paying attention, they’re soaking up our tone, our reactions, how we treat others, how we handle stress, and even how we speak about ourselves. This is the essence of modeling behavior and it’s one of the most powerful tools in a parent’s toolkit.
What the Science Says Research in developmental psychology shows that children learn through observational learning a concept first introduced by psychologist Albert Bandura. In his famous “Bobo Doll Experiment,” Bandura demonstrated that children who observed adults behaving aggressively toward a toy were more likely to imitate that behavior than children who hadn’t seen it
This principle doesn’t only apply to aggression. Children imitate everything from kindness and emotional regulation to habits like reading or screen time. The brain’s mirror neuron system activates when we observe others doing something, almost as if we were doing it ourselves. This is especially powerful in childhood, when the brain is still developing social and emotional understanding.
How to Use Modeling to Your Advantage
Here are practical ways to harness the science of modeling behavior at home:
1. Model Emotional Regulation
It’s okay for children to see you upset but it’s even more important they see how you manage it. Try saying things like, “I’m feeling frustrated, so I’m going to take a few deep breaths,” or “I need a moment to calm down before we talk.” This shows them healthy coping strategies in real time
2. Show Respect in Conflict
Whether you're disagreeing with a partner, a friend, or even your child, demonstrating respectful communication (listening, validating, staying calm) teaches children how to handle disagreements with empathy and assertiveness.
3. Practice What You Preach
If you ask your child to limit their screen time or clean up after themselves, let them see you doing the same. Hypocrisy, even unintentional, is quickly spotted by children and they’ll be more likely to tune out your requests if they see you behaving differently.
4 Use Mistakes as Teachable Moments
Nobody is perfect. When you lose your temper or make a poor decision, own it. A simple “I made a mistake, and I’m sorry” teaches accountability and humility.
5. Celebrate Positive Habits Together
Want your child to read more, eat better, or stay active? Invite them to join you. Make it a shared experience rather than a lecture.
Final Thought
Children may forget what we say, but they rarely forget what we do. Every day presents small but powerful opportunities to model the kind of character, empathy, and responsibility we want to see in them. When we live the values we hope to teach, our words carry more weight and our children grow into thoughtful, resilient individuals by our example.
