was born in New York City, while her father was completing his oncology residency at Sloan Kettering Hospital, and her mother was pursuing her PhD at Columbia University.
The family moved to Connecticut and then to Spartanburg, South Carolina. Emily’s childhood was filled with every sort of activity, many of which she still excels in today. Musically, she studied piano, cello, and singing. Athletic pursuits included soccer, ballet, tennis, and swimming. She continues to nurture her creative interests, including writing poetry, photography, videography, and painting.
In high school Emily was a featured dancer on a European orchestra tour and took on the leading role in the musical her senior year, which deepened her appreciation for the performing arts. “A friend once mentioned that I have a ‘quintuple Leo’ astrological chart, which might explain my comfort with performing,” she says.
While attending Washington University in St. Louis, Emily double majored in Vocal Performance and English Literature while participating in several operatic productions and singing in an a cappella group, The Greenleafs. This joyful experience created life-long friendships and wonderful memories, including performing the national anthem at St. Louis Cardinals games. Somehow, Emily found time for mountain biking and ultimate frisbee, and even studied abroad in Arezzo, Italy.
“My love for music and the auditory arts led me to graduate school in Audiology at Washington University School of Medicine. For over a decade, I practiced and trained clinicians in Illinois and California on hearing aid technology to enhance the auditory experiences of those in need,” she says. Emily recently returned to audiology part-time as part of a Duly Health and Care practice.
Emily is married to Brent Campbell, a Hinsdale native, and they have two wonderful sons, Matthew, who is 12, and Daniel, who is 10. Emily’s parents relocated to Burr Ridge a few years ago. “It’s great to have them and Brent’s mom nearby, actively involved in our lives,” she says. The family is completed by a lovable Cavapoo named Echo, who especially enjoys family beach vacations during spring break, but stays home when the trips are to Bora Bora, New Zealand, Italy, Greece, France, Portugal, and Hawaii.
This Renaissance mama teaches music at Zion Lutheran Early Childhood Education Center preschool through Mattix Music Studio. Emily says, “It brings me so much joy. Many people ask how I manage to teach such young children, but I find these early years delightful, as they are eager to learn and engage.” Older musicians also seek her help as a private voice teacher.
Emily’s performance skills have not grown rusty over time, as she flexes them in an acoustic duo with singer/songwriter Chris Tiritilli, and plays in two local cover bands, Fossil Fuel and The JungleeZ.
On the sporty side, Emily loves playing tennis at Midtown, dabbles in pickleball and paddle, loves horseback riding, competitive sailing, skiing and snowboarding.

Mantra “Carpe Diem” resonates with me, even if it feels cliché. I also cherish a piece of art that says, “Make Art Not War.” On your reading stack My book club is currently reading ‘ e Briar Club’, but I often find it challenging to finish books with my busy schedule. I enjoy thrillers and books about music, such as ‘Just Kids’ by Patti Smith. Divorce does not have to be a battle. In many cases, an uncontested divorce provides a smarter, more efficient solution for families who want to move forward without unnecessary conflict. At Strategic Divorce, we recognize the advantages of uncontested divorces—and we offer a flat fee arrangement to make the process even more predictable and accessible for our clients.
WHAT IS AN UNCONTESTED DIVORCE?
emotional strain for yourself, and your family.
• More Control: When you and your spouse negotiate your own settlement, you retain control over your future. In a contested divorce, a judge—who does not know your family—makes the final decisions. In an uncontested case, you decide what is best for you, your family, and your financial future.
Michone J. Riewer
An uncontested divorce happens when both spouses agree on all major issues before filing with the court. ese issues can include division of assets and debts, child custody, decision making and parenting time, child support, and spousal support. Instead of fighting over the details, both sides come together to create a plan that works for their family.
THE BENEFITS OF AN UNCONTESTED DIVORCE
• Lower Cost: An uncontested divorce is almost always less expensive than a contested divorce. Because the spouses agree on the terms, the process requires less attorney time, fewer court filings, and no drawn-out courtroom battles.
• Faster Resolution: When there is no need for repeated court appearances or discovery battles, an uncontested divorce moves through the court system much more quickly. is allows both parties to move forward with their lives without unnecessary delays.
• Less Stress: Divorce is emotional, even under the best circumstances. An uncontested divorce minimizes the tension, the accusations, and the ongoing conflict that often accompany a traditional contested divorce. By focusing on cooperation rather than confrontation, you can reduce
• Privacy: Because uncontested divorces are typically simpler and involve fewer public court proceedings, there is less exposure of your personal life and finances in open court.
At Strategic Divorce, we offer a at fee arrangement for qualifying uncontested divorces. is provides peace of mind, financial predictability, and transparency. No hidden costs. No surprises. Just smart, strategic representation that helps you move on efficiently and effectively.
Not every family can pull off an uncontested divorce. But if you and your spouse are in agreement and want to finalize the divorce without court intervention, Strategic Divorce is ready to guide you through the process with experience, compassion, and efficiency.
If you are considering divorce and want to explore whether an uncontested, flat-fee option is right for you, reach out to Strategic Divorce today. We are here to help you make smart decisions, protect your family and protect your future.

The story of how Dr. Nick Riccio met his future wife, Dr. Susan Blair, has all the makings of a rom-com.
Given that the couple are now proud proprietors of Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry, it’s not surprising that their initial “meet-cute” happened while they were in orthodontic residency at the same New York hospital.
“She had just completed her pediatric dental residency. And despite being green in orthodontics, she was a seasoned New York pro at that point,” says Riccio (DMD, PC). “We became close friends while showing me and our co-residents all the amazing things there are to do in e Big Apple.”
Manhattan set the scene for an epic romance as that friendship turned into something more.
“Our first actual date was at e Spotted Pig, an amazing burger place near my apartment,” he continues. “Susan is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, but I was more impressed with her appetite, that girl can eat! So, for me, it was actually love at first bite!”
He says they spent a lot of time during that period thinking about “the real world” and envisioning what their future careers
and lives would look like as a couple.
“We have vivid imaginations, and are famous for half-seriously looking at local real estate when vacationing somewhere cool, so we pictured ourselves in many exciting places during those final school years,” says Riccio. “ But the core vision was the same in each—with us living happy, healthy, and successful lives surrounded by good food, good friends, and loads of fun.”
Today, all of those dreams have come true and then some. is is a particularly poignant year for the couple, both in business and with their growing family, with a special synergy around the number seven.
For one, it’s been seven years since Riccio and Blair took over a long-standing practice to launch Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry. But that seven-year anniversary happens to come at the same time their oldest son, Massimo, turns 7, which is ironically the age when they begin seeing most of their young patients.
“What’s special about this anniversary is that we have really blossomed into our full form. When we took over the reins of Klepacki Orthodontics in 2018, we were just focusing on upholding the reputation for the premier place to get braces and Invisalign,” explains Riccio. “Fast forward to today, and we now offer the convenience of pediatric dentistry for the kiddos and orthodontics for
the whole family. is development represents us living up to our full potential, since Susan holds a unique distinction for the area in being dual board certified in both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics.”
Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry operates on a patient-first model that caters to each patient’s evolving needs. Among the many things the couple shares is a passion for orthodontics, which Riccio says offers a combination of artistry, technology, and personal connection. eir goal is to improve the lives of their patients, one smile at a time.
As Riccio explains, the business has expanded even beyond Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry to Bloom Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, a separate but affiliated practice that Blair runs in Lombard.
“ e order of those words in the business names does signal the soul of the practice,” he continues. “Now in our seventh year, this is our identity. We’re where we’re meant to be ... you might even say we’ve come into full bloom.”
As the businesses expand and thrive, so has the family. In addition to Massimo (who they affectionately call “Mo”), the couple welcomed another son, Santino (aka “Sonny”), last year.
“In a cute plot twist, after years of hoping and trying, our family has blossomed into its full form as well. So come anniversary time, we will have a 7-yearold and a 1-year-old,” says Riccio. “ e cuteness comes when you realize that those happen to be the initial screening ages—for pediatric dentistry at age 1 and orthodontics at age 7. So, our family life and professional life are blossoming and growing into quite the abundant, interconnected garden.”
At the time of this interview, Blair had just took a digital scan of Mo’s teeth to fabricate an expander and will soon be treated Sonny’s early pediatric dental needs. “So, it’s on,” he adds. “Now it’s real. It’s never been more real than this— living what patients see on their end.”
If the couple’s story were truly a film, it’s headed for a happy, feel-good ending.
Riccio says they love living in the Lane School district with their sons and family dog, Barney, who was adopted the same year they moved to Hinsdale, bought the business, and welcomed baby Massimo.
“We are two very different people, very yin and yang—better together than apart,” he says. “In any ways I’m deficient, she pushes me, and vice versa. It works for our personal life and it works for our professional life. It’s good that we live together but our prac-
tices are separate.”
As each of them is about to turn 40 years old, Riccio says they feel nothing but excitement about what the future holds for their family and for their businesses.
“It feels like a pivotal moment. We are ourselves, we are who we are, all coming together in our 40th year,” he adds. “When you’re working hard in school, the future seems far away but finally, we’re here. We’re building our skills, building our family, building our business, and building our forever home in Hinsdale. Now, every picture we hang is permanent. It’s kind of a cool feeling.”
Hinsdale Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry is located at 105 E 1st Street in Hinsdale. For more information, call 630-325-0100 or visit hinsdaleortho.com.
Designer Diana Wagenbach’s new studio and showroom honors Hinsdale business district’s oldest building with fresh design.
WORDS BY BY SHANNON SHARPE PHOTOGRAPHY BY Y&B INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Diana Wagenbach, principal and founder of the full-service interior and architectural design
firm Studio W, has a definitive style. It’s expressed through her use of meutral tones, nubile textures and quality materials. If you want to know how that translates into a completely reimagined space, simply step into her new studio and showroom at 102 Washington Street. Bright, fresh and airy with warm wood floors from Viking Flooring Solutions, white custom cabinetry, touches of greenery from Vagabond Botanical and open shelves with carefully curated objects, the space balances the designer’s modern sensibilities with her love for the warm simplicity, thoughtfulness and classic craftmanship of Belgian design.
Wagenbach’s appreciation for historic architecture is what drew her to the 145-year-old building in the first place. She’d had an eye on it for a while, as it was just two doors down from her now-former studio. “I loved the exterior’s limestone stairs and the original steel baluster railing was just so charming,” she muses. She
was thrilled when the opportunity to take the building over came up. “It’s the oldest building in the downtown Hinsdale business district,” she says. “It’s a treasure. It has a brownstone vibe to it that is really beautiful.” Plus, the views are to die for. “It feels like this Great Gatsby moment where you're looking out the windows and you see the entire town,” she notes.
Having the vision is one thing, but it’s an understatement to say it isn’t easy to transform a century-and-half-old building into functional design studio. Wagenbach and her team—senior
designer Tom Adduci, junior designer Amanda Zapal and procurement manager Anita Carter—worked with architect Vince Caprio of Caprio Prisby Architecture and Solid Rock Builders to bring their concept to life. at began with bringing the building down to its studs, combining what had been two units. “We demoed the entire interior of the space to see what was even possible,” Wagenbach says. “ e building is really tall and beautiful, but it's also long and narrow. ankfully the construction of the old days was truly exceptional.
space, it was pertinent that the design was as beautiful as it was functional. “I took quite a bit of time going through the layout, editing, and then editing some more,” the designer says. “I finally came up with this design, which was the only way to really utilize the space well but also keep it open and beautiful.”
A 31-foot custom island topped with limestone sourced from Calia Stone and fabricated by Precision Stone serves as the centerpiece of the main room. e Studio W team spends much of their days at the counterspace, pouring over designs, presentations and samples (all illuminated by Visual Comfort & Co. fixtures). For events, the island translates into a place for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.
At the end of the room is Wagenbach’s office, which, thanks to its glass-and-metal door, provides views through to the front door and ensures that the designer doesn’t miss someone who may stop by. “ ere’s a really wonderful design community in Hinsdale,” Wagenbach says. “I want to keep building up that community, and having a welcoming fun, place is key.” e hospitable vibe is also essential for the designer’s latest venture: an auxiliary company, Curated by Studio W, which offers a carefully chosen selection of design accessories that reflect her elegant, restrained style— think subdued tones, tactile materials and hand-crafted vibes. Along the open shelves customers will discover clay vases, marble dishes, rattan baskets, cast-iron candlesticks and a range of other small home pieces that Wagenbach has sourced. “I love to discuss the details,” she says. “Even the tiniest things matter in architecture and design. Offering up these piece provides the opportunity for people to add those small, but important, details to their home.”
While the main room is for meant for community, Wagenbach also ensured that the back space where her employees work and spend much of their time was just as beautiful and high-end. A custom banquette by Herrera Custom Furniture provides a cozy gathering space in a light-filled sunroom. And closet systems from Elite Spaces that store samples keep the area feeling sleek and uncluttered.
Updating the plumbing and electrical was a given (" e unit in the back still had the original knob-and-tube electrical panel,” Wagenbach notes. “It was wild.”), but Wagenbach wanted to up the ante beyond standard lighting. Partnering with Lutron and Smrter Home, Wagenbach installed architectural can lights in the ceiling. “ e lighting literally mimics the sun,” Wagenbach says. “It mirrors natural light from sunrise to sunset.”
Because the designer sees the studio not just as a work environment for her and her team, but also as a curated shop and an event

In the 40 years since Merry Richards Jewelers first began, although much has changed in the industry, the most important things have stayed the same: “Excellence, integrity, and a commitment to our cherished customers is at the heart of everything we do today, just as it was when we started,” says Merry, founder and co-owner with husband Richard. To honor its 40th-year anniversary, the store has been featuring a special sale event, discounting many items in the Merry Richards collection through May.
Featuring hundreds of beautifully displayed jewelry pieces in artful layouts that fill its sleekly designed Oak Brook Terrace store, Merry Richards has maintained its reputation as one of the Chicago area’s premier jewelry destinations by cultivating a loyal following.
“We understand that each customer is unique, whether they come to us for a new piece of jewelry, need something repaired or appraised, or hope to create a new setting for a family heirloom,” says Richard. To meet wide-ranging preferences, Merry Richard’s jewelry collection is diverse, catering both to customers who know and love highly desired brands and prominent designers such as Roberto Demeglio. Christopher, and Simon G, and to those who are uninitiated and may be purchasing fine jewelry for the first time.
Greeting each customer with a warm welcome, Merry Richard’s owners and staff offer expert guidance with their result-oriented yet approachable management style. “We are here to educate, care, and build lasting relationships with each customer,” says Richard, “regardless of their background or preferences.”
In fact, many Merry Richard’s clients have been repeating customers since the business began, “Today, their children and grandchildren now come in,” says Richard.
Among its special assets, Merry Richards has a private diamond
area, where dedicated team members use care and expertise to assist customers in finding the perfect stone and setting. And in addition to the sales team, Merry Richard’s skilled in-house jeweler is on hand to repair and refurbish treasured items, or to craft one-of-akind jewelry pieces.
Merry and Richard Cheng began their jewelry venture on Wabash Avenue’s “Jewelers Row” in 1985, selling loose diamonds and settings. e couple met through friends, and after marrying, Merry started the business and was joined by Richard—a wholesale jewelry representative, a few years later. eir first move to the suburbs came in 1992, with a shop in Oak Brook. And then in 2004, the couple built their million-dollar current location in Oak Brook Terrace.
“ e new location allowed us to meet a lot more people from the community and to expand our collection to the $10 to 12 million assortment we have today,” says Merry.
e Cheng’s son Scott began learning the jewelry trade in 2010 when he was in his early 20s. He is now the store’s sales and marketing lead.
Analyzing the market, “We have seen a surge of interest in natural diamonds because prices have come down for those,” says Scott. In addition, he says prices for lab grown diamonds are also more approachable, generating sales in that category. “We are also optimistic about sales of colored gemstones because they represent a great opportunity to invest in fine jewelry right now.”
As the family looks ahead, “We want to thank our loyal customers for all of the years they have allowed us to serve them with beautiful jewelry, and we look forward to meeting the next generation of shoppers from our community,” Scott concludes.

My parents recently moved into a historic home on Garfield Avenue. ey planted two thousand tulips as a sort of grand entrance into town,” says Adam King, Director of Sales and leader of the company’s new initiative, King’s Cares.
“King’s Cares is our way of connecting with the community. I’ve joined the Board of Directors of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce. We’re sponsoring a Trolley for the Hinsdale Kitchen Walk. We’re a Wellness House Bronze sponsor and nine employees are participating in the Walk for Wellness House,” King says of the concerted effort to put money back into the community.

MSDF provides service dogs to children and adults with mobility disabilities completely free of charge. “We’ve placed about 40 dogs with people over the years,” King says, explaining, “Every seven years a new dog rotates in to take on the service role and the older dog becomes a pet.”
e Foundation operates out of e Community House. As a way of showing gratitude to the organization for always being welcoming and often allowing the group extra time for training sessions and holidays parties, Adam asked how could King’s support e Holiday Ball. “We became the glow stick sponsor, which was great, but we wanted to do more. We’ve taken over maintenance services, which is just a joy for me. I love the Community House. I loved playing Jodie Harrison Basketball there,” he says.
With 100 employees busy all over the Midwest, King’s is more committed than ever to making outdoor living easy and beautiful for their customers. Whatever the trend is, be it garden pavilions or plantings that dazzle, this full service team makes it easy to entertain, relax, and enjoy extraordinary outdoor spaces. “Our clients never have to look for an

We’re going to answer the phone; it’s not a call center. We’re going to get to know you, your property, and your needs.”
At the end of its first year, the King’s Cares initiative has achieved a great deal of good, and one gets the feeling that this is just the beginning of big things for this hometown

Marriage is a major commitment. These five steps can help you build a stronger foundation and avoid heartache down the road.
WORDS
BY JONATHAN MEREL, FOUNDER AND MANAGING PRINCIPAL OF MEREL FAMILY
LAW
Most people don’t want to think about divorce before marriage—but the truth is, the best way to avoid divorce is to never end up in the wrong marriage to begin with. While happily ever after is never guaranteed, a good marriage starts with making intentional choices long before the wedding bells. Here’s what every couple should consider before saying “I do.”
Society pushes a narrative: Date, get engaged, marry, have kids. But following that path just because it’s “normal” can lead to major regret.
Marriage isn’t a requirement for happiness or a cure-all for life’s problems. And getting married just because you’ve hit a certain age—or because your friends are doing it—is often a fast track to misery.
If you’re going to marry, make sure it’s because you want to, not because you feel obligated to.
Many divorces stem from marrying someone who wasn’t a great match in the first place. Maybe you’ve been together for years and feel like marriage is just the next step. Maybe you're ignoring red flags and hoping things will magically get better.
Before committing, ask yourself:
Yes, physical attraction matters—but it’s not enough. Marrying someone you barely know because the spark is strong can backfire fast.
e honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever. Build your relationship on friendship, communication, and shared values—not just passion.
A prenup isn’t about mistrust—it’s about maturity.
Prenuptial agreements help couples have honest financial conversations before marriage. ey can protect businesses, inheritances, and assets—and save both parties from years of court battles if things go south.
If you’re serious about love, be serious about protecting each other from unnecessary legal chaos.
Not sure if they’re “the one?” Feel like you’re rushing into things? Take a breath.
Marriage is one of the biggest decisions of your life. ere’s no harm in waiting if it means gaining clarity. A bad marriage can cost you years, peace of mind, and financial stability.
Marriage can be beautiful—but it’s not something you owe anyone. Don’t let pressure from family, friends, or society push you into a lifelong commitment you’re not ready for.
• Do we share the same long-term goals?
• Can we handle conflict in a healthy way?
• Do I enjoy everyday life with this person?
If you’re answering “no,” it’s worth taking a step back. Chemistry is important—but compatibility is what sustains a marriage.
e best way to prevent divorce? Be honest—with yourself and your partner—before you ever walk down the aisle.

Over the last decade, ketamine—once considered a party drug and a veterinary anesthetic—has emerged as a revolutionary treatment for mental health disorders, particularly depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). With the mental health crisis growing in severity, many are turning to this psychedelic substance with the hope that it might offer relief where traditional medications have fallen short. But as enthusiasm for ketamine’s potential continues to rise, it's essential to weigh both the promising findings and the unanswered questions surrounding its use in mental health care.
Ketamine’s reputation in psychiatry has shifted dramatically since the 2000s. Initially studied for its anesthetic properties, researchers stumbled upon its profound antidepressant effects, particularly for individuals who hadn’t responded to conventional treatments like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take weeks or even months to show significant effects, ketamine has demonstrated rapid action—often relieving symptoms of depression within hours or days. is immediate relief is a game-changer for those experiencing severe depressive episodes or suicidal thoughts, where waiting for other medications to take effect can be a matter of life and death.
Ketamine is thought to work by targeting the brain's glutamate system, which plays a key role in mood regulation and synaptic plasticity. It appears to help "reset" the brain by promoting the growth of new neural connections. is mechanism of action differs greatly from that of SSRIs, which primarily impact serotonin levels. Ketamine's potential for creating lasting changes in brain connectivity offers hope for patients with treatment-resistant depression, a group who often feel trapped by their mental health

conditions after exhausting traditional therapies.
However, as with any new treatment, the long-term effects of ketamine remain unclear. While its rapid action is undoubtedly attractive, it is not without risk. Some studies suggest that repeated use of ketamine, particularly outside of clinical settings, can lead to addiction or bladder issues. e "dissociative" effects of the drug, which can cause altered perceptions of reality, may also be troubling for certain patients. e very nature of ketamine’s psychedelic effects means that it’s crucial to administer the treatment in a controlled setting under medical supervision to avoid misuse or harm.
Despite these uncertainties, the enthusiasm surrounding ketamine is undeniable. Clinics offering ketamine infusion therapy have proliferated in recent years, and many patients report experiencing significant improvements. In particular, people with severe depression or suicidal tendencies often experience immediate relief, which can help them engage in other therapeutic interventions or develop coping strategies.
In conclusion, ketamine represents an exciting frontier in mental health treatment. Its rapid effects and potential to aid those with treatment-resistant conditions make it a valuable tool in psychiatry. However, caution is necessary. As with any emerging treatment, careful research, oversight, and long-term studies are required to ensure its safety and efficacy. While ketamine may not be a magic bullet, it could well be a groundbreaking addition to the arsenal of tools available for treating mental health disorders—provided its use is carefully managed and understood.

Polish immigrant and Burr Ridge resident Kathy Szuba has built a successful real estate career on her empathy, determination, and savvy negotiation skills.
WORDS BY SHERRY THOMAS / PHOTOGRAPHY BY JAMES GUSTIN
BY
Kathy Szuba’s childhood growing up in Poland taught her to be a hard-working, go-getter—skills that have contributed to her being one of RE/ MAX Legends top agents.
“I just received the RE/MAX Hall of Fame award,” says Szuba, who joined the Oakbrook Terrace office three and a half years ago. “I was on the front page of a Polish magazine as the best Polish speaking agents in Chicago.”
She moved to the U.S. when she was 16 and bought her first home in Willow Springs at the age of 22—an impressive achievement.
“After rehabbing that house, we built a house in Burr Ridge in 2008, where we still reside,” Szuba adds, explaining that she pursued a career in real estate about 11 years ago because she loves helping people navigate big life decisions. “Buying or selling a home is one of the most important moments in someone's life, and I want to be the person to guide them through it with confidence and care.”
She has gone on to receive Platinum awards for her work every year since 2018, positioning her as one of the top realtors in the area. When working with a buyer or seller, Szuba puts herself in their shoes for the duration of the process. Her empathy and compassion, fueled by a keen eye for her client's preferences and best interests, are among her many strengths. Szuba is also known as a strong negotiator.
“Negotiation helps balance the interest of my buyer or seller leading to a smoother transaction and reduces risk of the deal falling through,” she explains. “It is very important to know how to negotiate a deal in the multiple offer market to help your buyer to win it or the seller to pick the most secure offer.”
is is especially true during the
recent inventory shortage, which shows little sign of changing anytime soon.
“ e inventory buildup from the pandemic has certainly had a lasting impact, and while we’ve seen some normalization, the market is still in a state of adjustment,” says Szuba. “Looking ahead, I anticipate a continued shift toward balance—but with some key variables at play, like interest rates, inflation, and consumer confidence.”
For the first time since the pandemic, we might finally see opportunities for buyers as sellers become more motivated to sell, especially with aging inventory. On the flip side, she explains, sellers will need to price more strategically and ensure their homes are market-ready.
“I’m helping my clients prepare by staying laser-focused on local trends, keeping them informed with up-tothe-minute data, and creating tailored strategies—whether it’s timing a purchase, negotiating the best deal, or prepping a home for maximum impact,” adds Szuba. “It’s all about staying agile and making smart, informed decisions in a market that’s evolving.”
As the market evolves, so does Szuba. She loves meeting new people and helping them find their dream home, often making new friends for life.
“My favorite part is helping people find the one—that perfect home that clicks for them. ere’s something super rewarding about guiding someone through such a huge, personal decision and seeing their excitement when it all comes together,” she adds. “Also, every day is different—new clients, new properties, new challenges. It’s never boring, and you get to be part matchmaker, part negotiator, part problemsolver.”

After seeing the number of families who show up at Walt Disney World without a plan, Hinsdale native Colleen Bentley created The Park Planners a concierge service specializing in custom Disney experiences.
WORDS BY SHERRY THOMAS / PHOTOGRAPHY BY IAN MCLEOD / STYLING BY THERESA DEMARIA
The Disney brand prides itself on creating some of the happiest places on Earth. But what Colleen Bentley noticed when she visited Walt Disney World about seven years ago was that not all Disney experiences are so joyful. With long lines and restaurants that were impossible to get into, the Hinsdale native saw that for those who weren’t prepared, a trip to Disney could be more miserable than magical.
“From the time I was young, our family always showed up with a plan, which helped us maximize our time in Disney, and actually enjoy our vacation together,” says Bentley, explaining how that trip inspired the idea for a business to help other families do Disney better. “So, I brainstormed how this could translate into a business and came up with the unique idea of a concierge planning service.”
After many late nights listening to “park music” in her West Loop apartment and planning, Bentley’s dream of a Disney concierge service became a reality.
A tiny client base of eight skyrocketed into the hundreds, enough for Bentley to quit her job and take on the business full time by 2020—the same year she and husband, Ben, moved to Clarendon Hills with an eye on starting a family. e Park Planners opened its first office in downtown Clarendon Hills in 2023.
“We’re a one stop shop for clients—meaning we can book your vacation, plan every detail, and even assist with any questions that arise during your trip!” says Bentley. “ ere is so much to see and do at the parks, so our team helps focus on the things that your family will enjoy the most with their custom itinerary.”
And e Park Planners specializes in more than just Walt Disney World. Concierge planners can also book trips to Disneyland in California, the Disney Cruise Line, Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa, Disneyland Paris, and Universal Studios Orlando and Hollywood—including the new Epic Universe theme park.
“We are a part of the Disney Earmarked Program, which is an exclusive, invite-only program for the top agencies. is program gives us first access to all of the new and exciting things happening at the Disney company,” says Bentley. “When you work with us, you’re getting expert assistance and guidance from some of the best in the business!”
Bentley is excited to be taking her daughter, Molly, who turns 3 this month, and newborn son, Teddy, to Walt Disney World for the first time this summer as a family of four.
“I have so many fond memories of visiting Disney with my family as a child. Now being able to take my own family is just pure magic every time,” adds Bentley. “Walking down Main Street at the Magic Kingdom with my daughter when she had just learned
how to walk last year was something I will never forget.”
It's a rite of passage she cherishes and hopes to pass along to others.
“We want to help clients have those magical experiences without the stress that can come with it—especially for the parents,” adds Bentley. “Being able to create lifelong memories for our clients is such a privilege and still brings me such joy even after seven years!”

Taking care of your health before something goes wrong just like routine car maintenance can save you pain, time, and money in the long run.

For generations and even now, we go see the doctor mostly when something is wrong. An ache or pain, fever, or fatigue are a few of many symptoms that we seek out help for. What if I told you that we aren’t using our doctors in the best way?
When I speak to patients about their health and wellness, I often use the analogy of owning a car. As Americans, owning and caring for a car has been a rite of passage for generations and now families often own multiple automobiles. We take care of our cars, by consistently going for oil filter changes, swapping out summer tires for winter ones, and getting a new registration license plate sticker each year. We don’t wait for the engine light to go on for these preventative measures. Why not let the motor blow up and replace that instead of the oil change? How about risk driving in snow with summer tread tires? Or just pay expensive tickets instead of registering the license plate? It
seems we do that with our bodies and health more than we think and should.
In 2022, there were approximately 155 million Emergency Department (ED) visits and around 20 percent of adults had one or more urgent care visits. Health statistical studies show 32.1 percent of ED visits are non-urgent and avoidable. One commercial health insurance company found 18 million out of 27 million visits were avoidable. is brings me to how I advise my patients to be proactive versus reactive. See the doctor when nothing is wrong, discuss a preventative care plan, to avoid health issues and reduce the chance of ED visits or urgent care utilization. Depending on your health insurance there could be co-pays and other costs associated with seeing the doctor, but that will dwarf an ER visit or hospitalization out-of-pocket expense.
Common topics to discuss with your doctor depend on your health, current medications, and prior history of medical problems. For some patients I recommend monthly checks, while others may be more or less frequent. Mammograms, gynecological exams, a prostate check, and colonoscopies are all preventative recommendations. However, checking blood pressure, sugar or glucose, heart rate, pulse, and pulse oximeter, and a heart and lung exam are also key indicators to keep track of.
Back to my car comparison, the recommendation and visit frequency depend on the type of car (male or female), how long you have had it (age), and driving history (clinical history).
So, ask your physician about a preventative care plan and invest in your health early and often. If the doctor is not really interested in prevention, perhaps obtain a second opinion or maybe a change is due. e bottom-line is don’t let your motor blow up and get regular check-ups when nothing feels wrong or there is no engine light on— you will feel better, stay healthier, and avoid the mechanic or doctor for expensive avoidable repairs.
