Welcome everyone to to todays league game as we welcome Uttoxeter Town F.C.
It's good to be back here at Sutton Coldfield Town F.C. where we had so many successes in the past during our first period at Coles Lane.
We tailed away last year and ended up disappointed with our league placing but I'm sure the hard work put in since then, will begin to show in our results in the coming weeks.
On the field the first team have great facilities for both home matches and first team training, so it really is down to them all to get us three points as often as possible.
Team spirit looks good from the outside despite recent results not being what we had hoped so I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone smiling when we get up the league table this season.
Finally, I’m so pleased we have kept all our committee and volunteers for this season. You are all brilliant and I can't thank you enough for all you do at the club.
Let's all stick together and get us on a run of wins!

The Ups & Downs Of The FA Youth Cup

A brief history of Romulus Academy in the FA Youth Cup. Virtually from the early days at Romulus Academy College the young team have taken great pride in being involved in the FA Youth Cup.
Last season the Roms team had a tough opening round match in the FA Youth Cup away at Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club. The Academy side was made up mainly of new recruits barely 16 years of age just fresh out of school and had not played a competitive game together. The home side on the other hand was an experienced U18s Floodlit group who to be fair was probably one of the strongest footballing sides in our area. A goal each half was the difference from the hosts. The raw Romulus college side played well throughout and for the majority of the 90 minutes competed well under the lights at Boldmere Community Stadium. That performance showed, even though 2-0, that we had a team with plenty of promise and carried on the good progress in the college league staying undefeated for the rest of the year.
Well while talking around the FA Youth Cup I cannot carry on without mentioning that famous run we had just under 10 years ago which created so many magic moments. Under the leader- ship of Andy Turner the young guns of Romulus Academy went on an outstanding run in this famous competition. After beating the likes of Pilkington and Racing Club Warwick in the early rounds the club found themselves in what would be the equivalent in the senior FA Cup the dizzy heights of the FIRST ROUND PROPER. After the draw Romulus Academy were picked out of the hat to play pro-setup Notts County away at Meadow Park. I still remember travelling up to the ground thinking let's keep the scoreline respectable and enjoy the occasion. Sometimes in football you get things wrong and for once I was so glad to be totally out with my expectations. What happened next was a Roms side that totally bossed the match for 90 minutes winning convincingly 3-1 and trust me when I say the Notts County goal really was a consolation goal. Still to this day I count that game as my all time favourite moment in over 15 years with Romulus with any of our sides. In the next round the lads were narrowly beaten at home against Oldham Athletic, but I always remember the Oldham manager saying that it was one of the best teams he'd come up against that season.

It was really great to see some old faces at last home game, and to be back at Sutton Coldfield is so refreshing, the absolute difference from Castle Vale is actually light years away.
I spoke to the owner and he was in the same frame of mind as we are. Everyone is very happy with the situation. Hopefully our future results will pick up and our club will again be on par with the other local clubs. Our academy is something we are very proud of and no doubt we were instrumental in this local area as the first and best. Everyone at our club is aware that we have to improve in every aspect, and l have no doubt we certainly will.

Hello all – it’s great to be back at Coles Lane aka the Dominos Arena. From a Roms perspective, it’s the first time in 6 years we are playing at home in (Royal) Sutton Coldfield, the town that is the club’s natural home. From my perspective, it’s nearly 4 ½ years since I last tannoyed at Coles Lane. Yes, some things have changed, but the set-up remains roughly the same and I have a great view of the pitch. As ever, the team at Sutton Coldfield Town have been welcoming and very helpful and I’m looking forward to getting on the mic once again this evening.
We welcome Uttoxeter Town for our MFL Premier Division home game today. Roms have seen once again a lot of change in the pre-season. Watching the friendlies has been exciting, the highlight of the pre-season was playing a game at St. George’s Park on the very day England were contesting the Euro 2024 final a Romulus win and a tour of the facilities that England use to train was an incredible experience and privilege. A big thank you to George for organising everything. At some point, I will bore you all with my pictures from the day!
Admittedly, some of the results across our pre-season games have been disappointing, but I suppose it’s more about the performances and building a cohesive team and squad – after all, some teams may have won all their pre-season friendlies but in the course of the season, may do badly; whereas sometimes the reverse is the case… fingers crossed! The MFL, as we have come to realise, is a tough division, particularly because of the mileage each team has to cover week in and week out, but if we are able to grind out results on the road, and turn the Dominos Arena into a fortress, then, who knows?
I’d like to make a special shout-out to ‘Transport’ Dave Stafford, who came all the way from Ludlow to support the lads, including a Monday night game against Coleshill Town – it’s real dedication, which every non-league club deserves. I know Dave can’t get to all our games, but it’s always great to see him.
It’s great to be back.
