Sorrounded with forests leading the mountainous highlands.Situated on a beautiful

location in the southwest of the scenic Bistra Mountain, with an amazaing view of the valley of Garska River and Stogovo Mountain, same time one of the highest populated places in this region.

Named after the only survivor, who was the sole survivor of a Turkish attack, who build the new town while the rest of the people were killed in a cave. Only some Lazar was saved from the cave, caming out from the other side of the cave to the field where he founded a new village. From his name Lazar, who came out into the field and founded the new village, the name Lazaropole originated.

Lazaropole is one of the highest (1350 m) and most beautiful villages in the country. It's located on a beautiful location in the southwest of the scenic Bistra Mountain, with a superb view of the valley of Small (Garska) River and Mountain Stogovo.Residents of this village belonged to the famous Macedonian tribe - Mijacs.The village is named after a local medieval hero, Lazar, who according to legend was the sole survivor of a Turkish attack on his village. The rest of the townspeople were killed in a cave where they had sought refuge, while Lazar, the only survivor, crawled outside and built a new town.

The road to the village is a good paved road from the direction from Gostivar and Mavrovo, turning to the road Mavrovo-Debar in the locality Boskov Most. The distance from Skopje is 145 km or about a 2 hour drive, from Gostivar 75 km and 23 km from Debar. Lazaropole is situated in the small field Koritnik through the middle of which runs Lazaropolska Small River - a tributary of Garska River. The village has a cozy mountain-continental climate, with occasional Mediterranean influences that penetrate the valleys of the Black Drim, Radika and Mala Reka.

Known with a unique topography as one of the highest and most fresh villages in the country.Lazaropole has a an elevation of 1350 meters, with a location that looks slightly secluded from the rest of the world.The village is oriented to the sun so that the main entrance of the village has a central intersection with the South, in which the sun travels from east to west lighting up a large part of the village throughout the day.

The circulation of vehicles inside the village is very difficult, but above all difficulties, it is the main distribution node.The main roads inside the village have a medium frequency during the summer season which are materialized with asphalt,with width of 6 m.

In Lazaropole Today the population is small, the reason that everyone has left the village to live in cities. Since there are about 400 houses in this village, only 8 of them are filled all year round, although the others are filled only during the summer season by the descendants of the elders born and raised in Lazaropole.

In this village live Macedonians who have pure ethnicity only Macedonians. The elderly live, since the new generations have left the village and come to visit only during summer season.Today only 8 families live in Lazaropole.Since early years, Lazaropole was known for its speciality of cheese and butter..

In this village used to live about 400 families, who use to practice the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. preparation of plant and animal products.Some of the families owned cows from which they received milk and meat, chickens for eggs, sheep and donkeys for transportation Sheep and goats were probably domesticated .People also domesticated cattle and pigs. Most of these animals had once been hunted for hides and meat. Also many of them used to used to produce milk, cheese, and butter. Eventually, people used domesticated animals such as oxen for plowing, pulling, and transportation.The cultivation of soil was the absolute main activity they made. Growing the potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, corn from which they used to prepare food winter time.

St. Gjorgjija

This church as a trademark only complements the picturesque scenery of the village. Built in 1841, it is a monumental building, surrounded by walls of stone 4 meters high, which was added a porch in the 20th century . The interior of the church is the work of famous local Dimitrie Perkoski (Dico Zograf) of mijach village Tresonche.Lazaropole village is a place of several churches and holy places, and one of them is St. Petka near the the houses.The small church dedicated to St. Gjorgjija is located not far from the village in the east, south-east direction, on the path that leads to the nearby peak called Cucul and is a real opportunity for a good walk and visit to both localities. To reach them, you pass through beautiful meadows surrounded by beech forest, which even in the hottest summer days retains the morning freshness. The hiking trail is not at all strenuous and is a pleasure for older visitors. After passing these meadows, you enter the forest, where you will be immediately greeted by a small stone bridge (replica of Ellen Skok) built by Josif Jose Drakuloski, which in itself is a sculpture in space, giving the place a characteristic of fairy tales.

-The main construction materials are formerly from the ground wood and stone.

-The wood was taken from trees wich they used to transport it with horses or donkeys, the earth was taken from its place, and the stone also was taken from its place.It was really hard at that time to build houses with those conditions.

-Architecture of these houses is characterised with different patterns in facades, with the use of white, dark brown wood and different textures of wood.

-Characteristic for these Houses is that the first floor was used for dining , kitchen and bedrooms , also some houses had cardak .

-On the base floor people used to keep the livestock and hygiene.

In the middle of the base floor there was water supply to maintain hygiene.Every house had their own plots and gardens.

The first Yugosllavian Carpet Factory named after macedonian writer and communist, best known for his poetry . He is considered one of the founders of contemporary macedonian literature Koco Racin, is the second trademark in this Village.It is characterised with 33 arched windows.20 square wooden columns inside the fabric.

The main construction is wood, stone and the walls are made with bricks.
